[Bug 312795] Re: when opening a *. wmv file in Totem Movie Player the sound worked but not the video

2010-03-29 Thread Marc Irvin
I also am having the problem with *.vob filetypes. Is this something
that has no fix, because I did not see a fix when I went through the
messages.Perhaps someone could advise us in downloading an alternate
video program or alternate drivers?

Re: [Bug 312795] Re: when opening a *. wmv file in Totem Movie Player the sound worked but not the video

2009-01-06 Thread mp
Hi,

I have an update for you. This morning I was sent an .asf file and
tried to play it using Totem Movie Player and then Gstreamer. It only
temporarily brought up the file and then the screen disappeared. So it
did not play the audio or video at all.

Hope that helps.

Thank you very much.

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

As of now I have not tried this under any other video formats other than
'.wmv under Ubuntu.

If there are any other files you would like me to try it with please
forward them and I will test them out.

Thanks again for your response.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

On this same computer your are having this problem on, can you reproduce
this issue with an Ubuntu LIVE CD and report back in the problem still
exists? When you launch the video file, Totem should tell you that it
needs to update the correct codecs, and after allowing this to happen
you should be able to view the video file.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better, but unfortunately I've been unable to reproduce with the video you
provided. I launched it via Totem, and the video and audio played as expected.
You might need to check to make sure you have the latest GStreamer ffmpeg
video plugin installed. Can you check that by running the following in a
terminal:
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg

Hi,

I typed the command in the terminal and it said gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg is
already the newest version. Would it be a problem specific to my
computer or is something in my Ubuntu setup that is not quite kosher?

Thanks
