[Bug 360147] Re: gnome-sound-properties does not play all sound effects

2018-12-12 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The interface described here has been rewritten/changed which deprecate
the issue. Feel free to open new reports for issues you might find in
current versions though

[Bug 360147] Re: gnome-sound-properties does not play all sound effects

2009-09-18 Thread chrisknyfe
I've been having some of the same problems as the rest of you. When I
started making changes to the event sounds in
system-preferences-sound: sound tab, my theme was blank, then changed
to custom. None of my settings would stick, and the preview buttons
would only preview the default sounds for each item. I did not
experience jlaroche's problem of only the login event sound playing.

After much google-searching, I found
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libcanberra/+bug/347537, which
describes a workaround where you have to change your theme to ubuntu
to get settings to stick. My sound changes now stick, even after reboots
and logouts. Hope this works for everybody else...

I think this is a related bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-control-center/+bug/277203

[Bug 360147] Re: gnome-sound-properties does not play all sound effects

2009-06-19 Thread jlaroche
So it seems that this is not a priority although many people confirm
that sounds simply DO NOT WORK. Again, this is not a matter of sounds
not being set by default in shipped version of Ubuntu. Rather, this is a
matter of sounds not being played when their respective events are
triggered... or in simple terms: Most of the sound events simply don't
work.

I confirm the bug, I get the exact same symptoms as jlaroche on Jaunty.

I investigated after I realized I wouldn't get sound alerts for new
email in evolution.

[Bug 360147] Re: gnome-sound-properties does not play all sound effects

2009-05-14 Thread jlaroche
This is tied to a much larger issue that I wish wasn't brushed over by
so many when i inquire about it. Just as the original stated, on my
System (Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit) the following sounds do not play, even if
you customize them:

-Window maximized
-Window unmaximized
-Window minimized
-New e-mail
-Empty Trash
-Long action
-Battery warning

Whats more, NO SOUND EVENTS PLAY except Login. Even the sounds that I
customize which do play when I click on the play icon within System --
Preferences -- Sound will not play during their assigned event.

So again, a number of sounds don't play within System -- Preferences
-- Sound, and customized sounds won't play when the correct event is
triggered (New e-mail, Logout, Empty trash, etc.).

reopening, the issue happens only sometimes and the dialog is deprecated
upstream, that's probably not going to be worked any time soon though
but a good contributor task if somebody wants to look to the issue

[Bug 360147] Re: gnome-sound-properties does not play all sound effects

2009-04-23 Thread komputes
I agree with Sebastien that this should not be a priority. While we are
talking about changes to sound effects, I would like to express my
opinion. I find that, in Jaunty, the locations for sound effects are
decentralized as the user can change it from the Volume control
panel/mixer and the Sound preferences. The user must also know that
Login window admin utility contains the system wide sound effect like
the GDM drums, and still contains sound options that it no longer
manages. This disconnect could be very confusing to end users of Ubuntu.
I would appreciate discussing usability concepts for centralized sound
control with anyone willing to contribute.

clicking on the play icon plays the sound

This is the part that does not work for me, only on certain items.

 what soundfile did you try?

Like you, I used question.wav to test this. This is the ubuntu drums we
usually get at the GDM longin prompt.

I just tested it on new installation of the latest Jaunty daily image on
different hardware. I still can reproduce this problem with some items, even
after having customizing them.

-Toggle button clicked
-Window maximized
-Window unmaximized
-Window minimized
-New e-mail
-Empty Trash
-Battery warning

-Button Clicked still plays the old sound even after having been
customized.

[Bug 360147] Re: gnome-sound-properties does not play all sound effects

2009-04-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you but I don't confirm that:

- start the dialog
- select the new e-mail or empty trash line
- click on default, select custom in the combo, select question.wav

the question.wav is displayed in the next colum and clicking on the play
icon plays the sound

what soundfile did you try? is it displayed in the next column?
