This is more than a simple feature request. This represents a lack of basic functionality. This is the default IM client in Ubuntu and the only way to block spammers is to replace it. I don't use empathy for exact this reason. In my opinion it is more a requirement for a messaging client then a feature. I would love to see the ability to block contacts added to empathy too. Personally, I've stopped using empathy for lacking this feature and a few others that would not be appropriate to mention on this bug. This bug should be moved to a high importance status considering that people online can be abusive, annoying, stalk you, etc. Not to mention spam. I read that the reason this feature does not exist is because of the available to all philosophy. How much truth I do not know. If that is true and is what is keeping this feature from being added, please leave your home unlocked at night.
