not a bug, gtk+2.0 Build-Depends on libtiff4-dev correctly

previous comment was out of topic, that's not libgtk2.0-dev that Depends
libtiff4-dev, libtiff4-dev is a Build-Depends for gtk+2.0, closing the
bug that's not one. Seems you are confused by what Build-Depends are,
you should rather use a support ticket on an user list if you have
questions about that

[Bug 61853] Re: libgtk2.0-0-dev needs libtiff4-dev

2006-09-27 Thread Robert Casanova
I didn't have the source in my repository list.

After reloading my package information, I've been able to run the command line:
apt-cache showsrc gtk+2.0 | grep tiff and it shows :

Build-Depends: debhelper ( 4.0.0), gettext, pkg-config, libglib2.0-dev
(= 2.12.0), libpango1.0-dev (= 1.12), libatk1.0-dev (= 1.9),
libx11-dev, libxext-dev, libxi-dev, libxrandr-dev, libxt-dev,
libxrender-dev, libxft-dev, libxcursor-dev, libxkbfile-dev, libxinerama-
dev, libxfixes-dev, libcairo2-dev (= 1.2.0), libtiff4-dev,
libjpeg62-dev, libpng12-dev, docbook-utils, linuxdoc-tools-text, gnome-
pkg-tools, libcupsys2-dev

but I don't know if this is the right way to proceed, but I uninstalled
the libtiff4 and synaptic didn't complain about having to uninstall the
dependencies. Neither complained when I reinstalled the gtk+2.0-dev
about having to install the dependencies.

Are you saying you can remove libtiff4-dev and keep libgtk2.0-dev installed?

Thanks for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use. What did you try
to build and what error did you get?

[Bug 61853] Re: libgtk2.0-0-dev needs libtiff4-dev

2006-09-22 Thread Robert Casanova
I downloaded the source code of gtk+-2.10.3 and tried to compile, it
stopped asking for the development package of libtiff4.

The error log is :

configure: WARNING: *** TIFF loader will not be built (TIFF library not found)
***
configure: error:
*** Checks for TIFF loader failed. You can build without it by passing
*** --without-libtiff to configure but some programs using GTK+ may
*** not work properly

I understand that it's an optional package, but maybe it should be
included in the dependencies for the development package of gtk.

From my edgy desktop:

$ apt-cache showsrc gtk+2.0 | grep tiff
Build-Depends: debhelper ( 4.0.0), gettext, pkg-config, libglib2.0-dev (=
2.12.0), libpango1.0-dev (= 1.12), libatk1.0-dev (= 1.9), libx11-dev,
libxext-dev, libxi-dev, libxrandr-dev, libxt-dev, libxrender-dev, libxft-dev,

(= 1.2.0), libtiff4-dev, libjpeg62-dev, libpng12-dev, docbook-utils,
linuxdoc-tools-text, gnome-pkg-tools, libcupsys2-dev

that libtiff4-dev Build-Depends is there for ages. What Build-Depends
line do you have?
