Yes, now you have the stable version installed. Your elementary desktop
ppa was using a nautilus version that is obviously not working properly.
You can reinstall the windows theme if you like as well. It should work
fine now. So everything is OK at this point? If so i will close the
bug.

[Bug 666049] Re: the "search" function with nautilus does not work properly with Ubuntu 10.10

2010-10-27 Thread RedSingularity
It seems that one of your PPA's is installing the wrong version of
nautilus. Looks unstable.

1) Run this in terminal:

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

2) Edit the line that says "deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/elementaryart/elementarydesktop/ubuntu maverick
main # disabled on upgrade to maverick" **PUT A # BEFORE THE
BEGINNING**. It should look like this in the file when your done, "#
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/elementaryart/elementarydesktop/ubuntu
maverick main # disabled on upgrade to maverick"

In terminal:
3) killall nautilus
4) sudo apt-get autoremove --purge nautilus nautilus-data
libnautilus-extention1
5) rm -r /home/YOURNAME/.gnome2/accels/nautilus
6) rm -r /home/YOURNAME/.gconf/apps/nautilus
7) sudo apt-get install nautilus

This should have downgraded you to a stable nautilus.

Run "apt-cache policy nautilus" again when done and post here.

2010-10-26 Thread RedSingularity
I just installed the theme pack. The "problem" appears to be the way
that theme makes nautilus behave. I was very surprised that it messed
with sudos nautilus configuration as well! Unfortunately we cannot work
with it since its not "official" ubuntu software. You will need to talk
to the person who writes the package theme software. All i can suggest
if it is too much of a problem is to remove the theme pack using the
"uninstall" script that came with it. Other than that, like I said, you
can write the developer and wait for the proper fix if he deems it
necessary.

2010-10-24 Thread RedSingularity
When you do a search it searched in the directory you were in when you
hit the search button. For example if I open nautilus and go to the
/bin folder and search for "skype", it will be searching for files with
the word skype in the /bin folder. The search will not go into any
other folder like /etc , /home , /lib. It *can* search into other
folders located within /bin though.

I cannot find the folders you are referring to when you say "Image (1),
Audio (2), Video (3), Document (10)". If you could provide a screen
shot that would be very helpful to me.

2010-10-24 Thread Vaggos
Go to any folder and hit the "search documents and folders by name"
button in nautilus. Without actually typing anything (them same happens
if you type something), it comes up with various results, which I don't
know with what criteria chooses, nor in which folder it actually
searches. In my case, just below the "address toolbar" it also displays
this: Image (1), Audio (2), Video (3), Document (10). This is not the
behavior that the search function had in all the previous Ubuntu
versions I had installed on my computer.
Thanx a lot for listening to me.

Thanks for taking the time to report this. Before we continue could you
please provide a step by step procedure to follow in order to produce
this problem? Also a description of what you think should happen and
what actually happens would be great.
