[Bug 79501] Re: Control Panel Hates Alacarte

2007-01-16 Thread Travis Watkins
The files are there, you can read preferences.menu to get to them,
alacarte is not going to show them.

** Description changed:

In Feisty, the Control Center is a total failure.

I use a program called Ubuntu System Panel. In this program's applications
menu, the applications list is drawn from the .desktop files that Alacarte
configures.
- With the new version of gnome-control-center, the .desktop files that used to
be in "System" in the default main menu have been removed. Now, the only way to
configure the system is through the control center, which man Feisty testers
are unpleased with (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=338869)

- This is horrible for people that use menus other than the gnome-main-menu
(e.g., Ubuntu System Panel) because now none of the programs that were
previously in System>Prefs/Admin can be accessed except with using Alt+F2, or
from the terminal.
- I really how this will be reverted in a later release of Feisty.

[Bug 79501] Re: Control Panel Hates Alacarte

2007-01-16 Thread Paul Williams
Yes, but the Ubuntu System Panel draws its program list from Alacarte's
configuration.

Gnome-control-center did not just add itself to the menu. If it did that, I
wouldn't care.
The problem is, that is removed all of the System > Preferences and System >
Administration .desktop files.
I fail to understand why these files would be removed. I don't understand how
it could benefit any user.

Alacarte is a menu editor, those things are not in a menu.

2007-01-15 Thread Aaron Bonnell-Kangas
While I'm still on Edgy, I plan to upgrade to Fiesty soon. I use USP and
the Alt-F1 menu extensively, and it would be a pretty major loss to see
that menu gone.
