[Bug 198742] [NEW] [evolution] [CVE-2008-0072] format string error, possible arbitrary code execution
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution References: SA29057 (http://secunia.com/advisories/29057/) Quoting: Secunia Research has discovered a vulnerability in Evolution, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system. A format string error in the emf_multipart_encrypted() function in mail/em-format.c when displaying data (i.e. the Version: field) from an encrypted e-mail message can be exploited to execute arbitrary code via a specially crafted e-mail message. Successful exploitation requires that the user selects a malicious e-mail message. The vulnerability is confirmed in version 2.12.3. [Bug 198749] [NEW] location bar eats the cpu: performance regression in 2.21.x
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: epiphany-browser I'm using epi 2.21.92, Powered by gecko-1.9, in ubuntu 8.04... and the cpu usage is *insanely* high whenever I type something in the location/address bar! It lags to death 0 cpu will be used if you keep typing 1 caracters per second, but as soon as you pause, the search kicks in and it lags for one full second till the dropdown appears. If you happen to type slow, this is unbearable, as the blocking UI is disorienting and interrupts you again while you type. Then you end up thinking the whole computer is lagging, whereas it is only the epiphany address bar. This problem is so obvious on my machine that I actually noticed it. Epiphany 2.20.x never was that slow and did not hog the CPU when you were typing in the location bar. I reported this upstream (gnome bug 520215) but they did not react. Caco thanks for giving these detailed informations. Concerning the problem you have with the alpha 5 release, I suggest that you boot hardy LiveCD without splash and quiet from the bootline ( you can do this by typing F6 on the LiveCD menu and by erasing splash and quiet ). This way, you will have more detailed outputs about the errors linux kernel get. I also suggest that you try to type modprobe all_generic_ide at the busybox prompt to see if loading that module can let you boot the CD. You can continue to work on that bug here : bug 179336 (I'm subscribed to that bug too) If you finally get some workaround to bypass bug 179336, it would be very great if you can try to reproduce the screenshot problem under hardy with compiz and the latest ATI restricted drivers enabled, they now work with compiz. [Bug 198857] [NEW] nautilus does not show existing sftp connected servers
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gvfs I don't know if this is an - upstream bug - ubuntu bug -nautilus bug - gvfs bug So please triage this if you have a better idea of culprit. Basically, in gnome/nautilus 2.20 I had about 8 SFTP (ssh) servers connected using nautilus (using the PlacesConnect to server feature of gnome panel). These shares appeared on my desktop and in network:/// I am now running hardy with nautilus 2.21.92, and my connected shares are all gone. I can't access them, even though they are still present in gconf (/desktop/gnome/connected_servers). So, they don't show up on the desktop, in the Network place, or in the Places menu. This is a dealbreaker for me, as I used nautilus' sftp/ftp/smb features all the time. Not having those would mean I am better of using thunar, since it's basically a faster nautilus without network capability. So, any thoughts what might be the cause of this problem? ** Affects: gvfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: gvfs hardy nautilus regression ** Tags added: gvfs hardy nautilus regression -- nautilus does not show existing sftp connected servers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198857 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 195788] Re: Evolution 2.21.92 (hardy) crashes when attaching MS-Office files
Hggdh, mcrha helped me again today, we found out that gnomevfs-info 123.xls was responding with an empty mime-type for some reason. We came up with a fix which I tested in 8 machines here and it fixed the problem in all of them: 1)mv ~/.mime.types ~/.mime.types.bkp 2)sudo mv /etc/mime.types /etc/mime.types.bkp 3)sudo mv /usr/share/mime.cache /usr/share/mime.cache.bkp 4)Reboot 5)All icons will be messed up. Right click any .xls file, select Open with another application, Select OpenOffice Calc. Do the same with .doc and .ppt file. 6)Reboot. All icons still messed up. sudo /usr/bin/update-mime-database /usr/share/mime 7)Reboot. Fixed! All MS-Office files have correct mime types according to gnomevfs-info and can be attached to evo. I have no idea why mime types were misconfigured, I am sure it probably is not a good idea to remove mime.types from $home and /etc, also I am sure I should have repeated Step 5 for many other extensions...
