Maybe the author will also release this version under LGPL?

I've seen lots of people never get round to the next version.

If he releases this version then it doesn't matter if he doesn't get

[Bug 198742] [NEW] [evolution] [CVE-2008-0072] format string error, possible arbitrary code execution

2008-03-05 Thread hk47
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

References:
SA29057 (http://secunia.com/advisories/29057/)

Quoting:
Secunia Research has discovered a vulnerability in Evolution, which can be
exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.

A format string error in the emf_multipart_encrypted() function in
mail/em-format.c when displaying data (i.e. the Version: field) from
an encrypted e-mail message can be exploited to execute arbitrary code
via a specially crafted e-mail message.

Successful exploitation requires that the user selects a malicious
e-mail message.

The vulnerability is confirmed in version 2.12.3. Other versions may
also be affected.

[Bug 198749] [NEW] location bar eats the cpu: performance regression in 2.21.x

2008-03-05 Thread Jean-François Fortin Tam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

I'm using epi 2.21.92, Powered by gecko-1.9, in ubuntu 8.04... and the
cpu usage is *insanely* high whenever I type something in the
location/address bar! It lags to death

0 cpu will be used if you keep typing 1 caracters per second, but as
soon as you pause, the search kicks in and it lags for one full second
till the dropdown appears. If you happen to type slow, this is
unbearable, as the blocking UI is disorienting and interrupts you
again while you type. Then you end up thinking the whole computer is
lagging, whereas it is only the epiphany address bar.

This problem is so obvious on my machine that I actually noticed it.
Epiphany 2.20.x never was that slow and did not hog the CPU when you
were typing in the location bar.

I reported this upstream (gnome bug 520215) but they did not react. I
thought maybe it was an ubuntu issue.

 To start with:

 - the queue list that popups up, if you change its place to anywehere in
the screen, IT SHULD KEEP IT THERE! Everytime a new item goes in or one is
completed, the queue will be moved back to the center of the screen if you
have two screens it will move to the selected one) - Just before todays
update, this was working fine! If you have to redraw, check the position or
so something to keep it in the place where it was moved to...

 - I was moving several large files through ssh:// when it just crashed!
 Each file was about 350MB

 - This happen before, I tried to move a large folder with several folders
inside and large files (at least 3 levels of folders) ... IT DIDN'T WORK AT
ALL! It just creates an item in the queue and nothing happens!!!

Yes, I can replicate all the above!!!

[Bug 144663] Re: OpenGL Screensavers Crash

2008-03-05 Thread Caco
1. Does this bug happens with compiz disabled?

No.

2. What is the list of the screensavers that crash your computer?

All except blank screensaver , floating Ubuntu and Fuzzy Flakes. Some
screensavers just produce a blank screen, while others stop moving after
15 secs.

3. Can you attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file to that bug report after
you have reproduced the crash?

Done. Used Hypertorus 4D screensaver.

4. Can you give us the result of this command in a terminal : lspci -nn
| grep VGA

05:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc RV380
[Radeon X600 (PCIE)] [1002:5b62]

5. Finally, Can you reproduce this issue with the latest Hardy alpha 5/6
release? You can try it from the LiveCD without installing Hardy to your
computer.

I tried Hardy alpha 5 (didn't find release 6) but after loading first
phase (that where Ubuntu logo is shown) i get a BusyBox prompt
(initramfs) and don't know what to do then.

[Bug 197205] Re: introducing a Nikon D80 freezes Gnome-Panel

2008-03-05 Thread Broomer68
I am sorry, but this is not yet fixed. As I connect my D80, the panel is
not able to respond to left mouseclicks, and right clicks for some
parts.

There is a window UNDER the current one, (with no mention of in the
frozen window-list-panel), only to be seen when the current window is
displaced.

The purpose of this window is unclear, as I cannot do anything sensible.
The special folder seems not to exists, and the store folder leads to a
folder containing Icons, but Eye of Gnome cannot open them. (see
attachment screendump)

This is with this mornings updates, exept those for Open Office, as they
won't install.

[Bug 107025] Re: Multipage printing issue using even and odd.

2008-03-05 Thread Ben Ahrens
What I did was downloaded the source files, ran the configure make
(actually make install too), and then executed the binary. Not sure if
doing the make install was the best option, but I did it anyway so I
could launch the evince I built. Evince launches fine, but it does not
seem to be able to open files. If I have the wrong approach here, let
me know. My thoughts were to reproduce the problem on my machine (which
I did), then get the source code and start learning how it works to see
where I might make any changes to fix the bug.

[Bug 198774] [NEW] nautilus

2008-03-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hardy 8.10 with all the latest updates as of 03/05/2008
Nautilus 2.21.93

I have no idea what to send, I will be glad to send whatever would be
needed

I am not sure what to report this problem against. I have a Kodak Z712IS camera
and when I plug it in to USB it brings up Nautilus showing the camera. All
seems ok at this point.
When I unmount the camera I can no longer use the top bar/panel so I can no
longer open anything from there, also I have to forse Nautilus to close, it
leaves the display but stays in the lower tray/panel. At this point I press the
power button to power down, ctrl-alt-del prings up the shutdown menu but when I
clicked on restart it did not work

A side point!! It use to be when I plugged the camera in F-Spot would ask to
upload pictures and do it by date which was great. I would like to get back to
this instead of Nautilus

Thanks
Harold

[Bug 144663] Re: OpenGL Screensavers Crash

2008-03-05 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Caco thanks for giving these detailed informations. Concerning the
problem you have with the alpha 5 release, I suggest that you boot hardy
LiveCD without splash and quiet from the bootline ( you can do this by
typing F6 on the LiveCD menu and by erasing splash and quiet ). This
way, you will have more detailed outputs about the errors linux kernel
get. I also suggest that you try to type modprobe all_generic_ide at the
busybox prompt to see if loading that module can let you boot the CD.
You can continue to work on that bug here : bug 179336 (I'm subscribed
to that bug too)

If you finally get some workaround to bypass bug 179336, it would be
very great if you can try to reproduce the screenshot problem under
hardy with compiz and the latest ATI restricted drivers enabled, they
now work with compiz.

Thanks for your contribution!

[Bug 198808] [NEW] [Hardy] gnome-power-manager doesn't use pm-utils quirks

2008-03-05 Thread Nikolaus Filus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Summary: After upgrading from gutsy to hardy (alpha5) resume with g-p-m
no longer works. It worked previously with the old infrastructure.

from gnome-terminal as root:
   pm-suspend
resume ends with freeze and black screen
   pm-suspend --quirk-vbestate-restore
  resume works!

implemented quirk in
/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/20-video-quirk-pm-samsung.fdi
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# lshal | grep quirk
  power_management.quirk.vbestate_restore = true  (bool)

g-p-m - suspend / logout - suspend
resume works, the console shows kernel messages for a second, then some
magic is done (switching to X?)
and it ends with freeze and black screen (as without the quirk).

/var/log/pm-suspend.log suggests that pm-utils ARE used, but there are
only entries from suspend, not a single one from resume

Questions:
What is the difference between g-p-m suspend and manual pm-suspend?
  How to debug the process?

[Bug 198749] Re: location bar eats the cpu: performance regression in 2.21.x

Seb, do you have lots of bookmarks by any chance? This bug will not be
apparent on a fresh epiphany, but it sure is visible with my 600kb+
bookmarks file.

If you are interested in a sample to try reproducing on your side,
I could attach my bookmarks.rdf, PGP-crypted for you.

[Bug 12153] Re: Cannot use Windows key in keyboard shortcuts

2008-03-05 Thread Daniel Sargeant
Changing the keyboard layout does work for me as well, using Gutsy (that
I believe was upgraded from at least Feisty, so is not a fresh install).
I noticed that the Super is mapped to the Win-keys (default) claims
it's default. The problem, I think, is that Alt and Meta are on the
Alt keys (default) also claims it is default and is higher in the list
of options.

[Bug 198840] [NEW] selected tab has odd block underneath (Firefox3) since clip rect not obeyed in ubuntulooks

2008-03-05 Thread Magnus Melin
Public bug reported:

As the firefox3 tabs are now (more?) native, a bug in ubuntulooks was
uncovered that will make the tabbing look bad. The selected tab (e.g. in
Preferences) has an odd block underneath.

A screenshot can be seen here:

On my kubuntu (gutsy) system, the odd block is even a bit larger.

[Bug 198849] [NEW] [hardy alpha 5] xserver autoconfigure fails ONLY over HDMI (Intel G35)

2008-03-05 Thread TheKorn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

monitor: hanns-g hc194d
graphics chipset: intel G35
motherboard: asus p5e-vm hdmi
OS version: hardy alpha 5, patched on 3/5/2008

DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu hardy (development branch)

gdm:
  Installed: 2.20.3-0ubuntu6
  Candidate: 2.20.3-0ubuntu6
  Version table:
 *** 2.20.3-0ubuntu6 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

When monitor is connected via VGA D-sub cable, everything works great! When
monitor is connected via DVI cable (w/ DVI-HDMI adapter), monitor shows
unsupported display mode.

FWIW, this exact combo works GREAT under gutsy (even under HDMI).

more info: I'm rebooting in between swapping cables, and at no point in time
are both cables connected to the machine. Sequence is to power down, swap VGA
for DVI cable (or vice-versa), power up, see BIOS and then ubuntu splash
screens, then when the login screen should come up (I hear the bongo sound, and
can log in blind or administer via SSH) that's when I get unsupported display
mode. So I'm not crashing at all, it's just not exactly working quite right.

[Bug 198857] [NEW] nautilus does not show existing sftp connected servers

2008-03-05 Thread Jean-François Fortin Tam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

I don't know if this is an
- upstream bug
- ubuntu bug

-nautilus bug
- gvfs bug

So please triage this if you have a better idea of culprit.

Basically, in gnome/nautilus 2.20 I had about 8 SFTP (ssh) servers
connected using nautilus (using the PlacesConnect to server feature of
gnome panel). These shares appeared on my desktop and in network:///

I am now running hardy with nautilus 2.21.92, and my connected shares
are all gone. I can't access them, even though they are still present in
gconf (/desktop/gnome/connected_servers). So, they don't show up on the
desktop, in the Network place, or in the Places menu.

This is a dealbreaker for me, as I used nautilus' sftp/ftp/smb features
all the time. Not having those would mean I am better of using thunar,
since it's basically a faster nautilus without network capability.

So, any thoughts what might be the cause of this problem?

[Bug 197205] Re: introducing a Nikon D80 freezes Gnome-Panel

2008-03-05 Thread Broomer68
With this evenings update, something has changed: The panel is not
frozen when connecting, but it freezes when disconnecting (unsecurely,
as there is no unmount visable).

Also still no files present for eye of gnome when double clicking on a
.jpg to open.

[Bug 198134] Re: evince not respecting default printer

2008-03-05 Thread Michael Blinn
.lpoptions are not respected in Gutsy either - though I've only tried
i386 arch.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] log]# cat /etc/cups/lpoptions
Default UpstairsMain scp-fc5=true
[EMAIL PROTECTED] log]# cat ~user1/.cups/lpoptions
Default DownstairsMain
[EMAIL PROTECTED] log]# cat ~user2/.cups/lpoptions
Default UpstairsDahl
[EMAIL PROTECTED] log]# cat ~user3/.cups/lpoptions
Default Keith_Color_Printer

each of the ~user/.cups/lpoptions are set at login with the following
script in /etc/profile.d/set_printer.sh - I'm using LTSP and thin
clients, with printer based on hostname, not user.

#!/bin/sh
ws=$(echo $LTSP_CLIENT|cut -d. -f1)
case $ws in
   ws0-007 ) lpoptions -d UpstairsDahl ;;
   ws0-010 ) lpoptions -d DownstairsDahl ;;
   ws0-016 ) lpoptions -d UpstairsDahl ;;
   ws0-017 ) lpoptions -d Keith_Color_Printer ;;

[Bug 195788] Re: Evolution 2.21.92 (hardy) crashes when attaching MS-Office files

2008-03-05 Thread Effenberg0x0
Hggdh, mcrha helped me again today, we found out that gnomevfs-info
123.xls was responding with an empty mime-type for some reason. We came
up with a fix which I tested in 8 machines here and it fixed the problem
in all of them:

1)mv ~/.mime.types ~/.mime.types.bkp
2)sudo mv /etc/mime.types /etc/mime.types.bkp
3)sudo mv /usr/share/mime.cache /usr/share/mime.cache.bkp
4)Reboot
5)All icons will be messed up. Right click any .xls file, select Open with
another application, Select OpenOffice Calc. Do the same with .doc and .ppt
file.
6)Reboot. All icons still messed up. sudo /usr/bin/update-mime-database
/usr/share/mime
7)Reboot. Fixed! All MS-Office files have correct mime types according to
gnomevfs-info and can be attached to evo.

I have no idea why mime types were misconfigured, I am sure it probably
is not a good idea to remove mime.types from $home and /etc, also I am
sure I should have repeated Step 5 for many other extensions... But hey,
it's a start :)

Effenberg

[Bug 178558] Re: Firefox 3.0 makes everything annoyingly huge

2008-03-05 Thread excogitation
I feel the same:
No, the DPI shouldn't be set to 96 on a 150dpi screen. It should be set to 150.
Firefox should cope and offer a way to configure its size (for people who like
small images with large text), instead of forcing everything to be huge.

There should be options (in FF) wheter or not you want:
- The interface
- The page
to be scaled (and to what size)

Is this bug already posted to mozilla bugzilla?

[Bug 198815] [NEW] [Hardy a5] Dropdown lists at bottom of screen drawn incorrectly

2008-03-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Using Hardy alpha 5 with all updates current at of 11:00 CST on March 4,
2008. Menu lists brought up at the bottom of the screen create empty
space above the default selection. I am including a screen capture.
This is an issue that was reported in previous releases (#64631) and
marked as Fixed, but I guess not fixed in Hardy.

[Bug 198862] [NEW] brasero crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast()

2008-03-05 Thread Milo Casagrande
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 194721 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194721

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Using Ubuntu 8.04, brasero version is 0.7.1.

This problem happens when you:
- disable all the md5 related plugins in Edit - Plugins
- perform a integrity check with all plugins disabled
- enable only the plugin md5sum
- re-perform a integrity check
- brasero crashes with a Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Almost the same thing happens if I enable only the md5sum-file plugin.

[Bug 57872] Re: regression: pressing power button no longer brings up logout dialog

2008-03-05 Thread Dani Alonso
Following my previous comment, I have downloaded the source package for
gnome-power-manager, compiled with --enable-debug=yes.

Now, when I press the power button it outputs the following:

(gnome-power-manager:3857): GnomeUI-CRITICAL **:
gnome_client_request_save: assertion `client != NULL' failed

So it seems that the culprit is that gnome_master_client () is returning
NULL.
