[Bug 369904] [NEW] Calc needs easy method to reset to defaults
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gcalctool Reference: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcalctool/+question/69263 (This would be more of an enhancement than a bug) I am a moderately frequent user of gcalctool, and I am a SW programmer, so I like to use the Bit Editor feature and related. Somehow, gcalctool got in a state where the accuracy was set to 0. I could not figure out why 3/2 = 2 !!! Rather, I figured I knew what was happening, but I didn't know how it got to that state or how to clear it. I eventually found the Acc pulldown and fixed the problem. But that is not intuitive, IMHO. Especially since that pulldown is not available in any mode except Scientific. I think the easiest thing for most users would be a reset to defaults option that would get everything back to normal. Someone mentioned command line methods to reset gcalctool, but those are even less intuitive. ** Affects: gcalctool (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Calc needs easy method to reset to defaults https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369904 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gcalctool in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 369884] Re: gconf-editor dissapeared when editing apps-compiz-plugins
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: gconf-editor (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- gconf-editor dissapeared when editing apps-compiz-plugins https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369884 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gconf-editor in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 305030] Re: Failed to print document - can't prompt for authorization
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 283811 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/283811 Got printing to work.. after an hour or so of google'ing and tinkering I'm new to Launchpad (today) - didn't see where to post on the 'non duplicate or original bug...' I have this issue on Ubuntu 8.10 x86_64 Intrepid. Printing used to work. Have not printed for a while from my laptop and now after numerous updates it only works for some apps like Openoffice but not for others like Evolution. Printer is a Brother MFC-8440 connected to a Windows Vista system via USB. Anyway, I mucked around with the /etc/cups/printer.conf file without luck - different error messages depending on what I did - rotate between Error printing. Can't prompt for authorization to Error printing: Too many failed attempts. I copied the existing printer through the Gnome GUI and pasted it with a different name and then choose this new one as my default printer. Voila it worked fine from all the applications (no cupsys restarting needed). Also, seems to me that config files being reverted and not keeping changes might have to do with debconf. If i recall correctly there's an argument to dpkg that allows reconfiguring pkgs so that they either don't use debconf or at least you can modify your configuration so it's configuration change takes ahold. I did check the Vista System and Domain Event Logs to see if there were any failed auth attempts (yes auditing is turned on for this). There were none. -- Failed to print document - can't prompt for authorization https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305030 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I don't know enough about dbus to understand why this is also hopefully i didn't hurt anything by changing the ownership to me. I doubt it because root would still be able touch it. Re: [Bug 369587] Re: Totem (Ubuntu 9.04 i386) has poor audio playback while playing video.
I've run a few more tests since I wrote the e'mail and I appears that there is something odd with these encoded southpark episodes. They peg the CPU at 100% while playback under totem, but barely touch the CPU with mplayer. However, play back of other files similarly encoded (640x480) avi/xvid/mp3 barely touch the cpu and do not display the stuttering problem with totem. The only thing I can determine that's actually different is the frame rate. file says the avis i've encoded are 30fps while the SouthPark episode is 23.98 fps (I didn't encode that one, I think it's in PAL format). I have one high resolution video saved on a dvd around here somewhere, if you think it's necessary I can track that one down and try it as well. If I can help further, please let me know. --- On Thu, 4/30/09, Sebastien Bacher seb...@ubuntu.com wrote: From: Sebastien Bacher seb...@ubuntu.com Subject: [Bug 369587] Re: Totem (Ubuntu 9.04 i386) has poor audio playback while playing video. [Bug 370023] [NEW] not possible to set screen resolution back to original value
Public bug reported: I used the screen settings to change my resolution to a lower value (because I could not get a projector to work). In order to change to the lower resolution, I was asked for the system password, because Monitor Resolution Settings has detected that the virtual resolution must be set in your configuration file in order to apply your settings. Would you like screen resolution to set the virtual resolution for you? (Recommended). After I entered the password and logged out and back in in order to apply the new settings, the old setting for my resolution is gone. I can't set it back to its native value (1400x1040) anymore, since it is not listed in the list of possible resolutions anymore. I checked xorg.conf, and there 1400x1040 is actually the only value which is entered there. However, I am not given the choice in the menu and there I am not able to set it back to its original value. This seems to be a reproducible issue, since I first set the resolution to 13.. x ... and then went down one step further to 1248x1024, and 13.. x ... is also gone now. Working on a Samsung X20 with ubuntu 9.04. Screen-resolution-extra is installed, so I am not sure if I am reporting the bug to the correct package. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- not possible to set screen resolution back to original value https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370023 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 370069] [NEW] Gnome Terminal letter e doesn't work
Public bug reported: I am running Ubuntu Jaunty, and have a very odd problem with gnome- terminal. In gnome-terminal, and only gnome-terminal, the lowercase e doesn't work. It had worked fine ever since I installed the Jaunty alpha on this machine and stopped working today. A reboot didn't cure it, and neither did changing the keyboard in System-Preferences-Keyboard. Uppercase E works fine in gnome-terminal. In all other apps, e works fine. This seems similar to https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /gnome-terminal/+question/12115, but the remedy suggested there, to run bind e:self-insert, does not work for me. [Bug 370111] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.04 gives black screen after splash, remote login shows hung/unkillable gdm instance
Public bug reported: This is an issue that was happening under a fresh Ubuntu 8.10 install, and it has continued to happen since a recent upgrade to 9.04. I'm opening this bug to help diagnose this issue and possibly develop both a workaround and a fix. The machine in question is an eMachines T2824, and I'm using the built- in graphics system that's part of the motherboard. 'lspci' reports it is an Intel Corporation 8245G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01), with subsystem Intel Corporation Device 5352. The problem that I am seeing is that, on a fair percentage of boots (around 40-50%), the machine appears to hang with a black screen immediately after the splash screen progress bar fills up. This happens before the background color is changed, the mouse cursor appears, or gdm comes up. The machine appears completely unresponsive at this point, and I cannot access alternate terminals via CTRL-ALT-# as might be expected. In order to help diagnose the problem, I have set up ssh-server so that I can remotely log into the machine while it is hung. Remote login works perfectly normally when the screen is black, and inspecting the output of 'ps aux' shows two instances of /usr/sbin/gdm being executed. Attempts to restart gdm with 'sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart' do not work. At least one instance of gdm seems to be unresponsive to commands: - 'sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop' - 'sudo kill PID of instance' - 'sudo kill -9 PID of instance' In addition, remotely executing 'sudo shutdown -r now' fails to shut down the machine, and it must be powered off completely to try to restart. Some items to note: 1) The hang seemed to be avoided every time I accessed the GRUB menu and overrode the 'quiet' and 'splash' options from the default boot menu entry, then booted. However, making the change permanent by adjusting /boot/grub/menu.lst has still resulted in at least one hang on a cold start. 2) The hang also seemed to be avoided every time I accessed an alternate terminal during the splash screen. In these cases, the display switches to gdm when it is initialized, as would be expected. 3) I'm not positive that gdm is the ultimate culprit here, but I am filing this bug against gdm because that is the program that appears unresponsive. 4) This issue is not limited to cold boots. I have seen the same thing happen on warm restarts as well, and can be reliably reproduced by executing 'sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart' a few times successively. I'm not an expert, but I can certainly follow directions to gather more information about this problem. Please let me know what additional information you would like to help diagnose this issue. gdm version = 2.20.10-0ubuntu2 lsb_release -rd = Ubuntu 9.04 ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ubuntu 9.04 gives black screen after splash, remote login shows hung/unkillable gdm instance https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370111 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

i am still using a wins server as that is the only way i get consistent results even with the xp machines. new jaunty installs do not network smoothly (ie connections may or may not work with mostly may not work) as soon as i add the wins server ip address to smb.conf -and restart samba - networking is good again network consists of 2 xp mce, 2 xp home, 1 xp pro machines (all sp3) 1 hardy amd64, 1 intrepid server, 2 jaunty amd64, 2 jaunty (all up to date) without wins - xp to xp connections are even iffy especially between different versions with wins it works -- Nautilus fails to browse windows shares https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/316862 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 192122] Re: wine wants to open shell scripts
shared-mime-info should be properly detecting those as application/x-ms- dos-executable now; if it isn't that's a bug they're willing to fix. Right now the current magic is to just treat all *.exe files as ms-dos- executables, which I believe is the same way that Windows itself does. -- wine wants to open shell scripts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192122 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is the registrant for shared-mime-info. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
