[Bug 467285] Re: screensaver preferences ignores my unchecked box
As far as I know, the only way to stop the screensavers activating (after a delay) is to uninstall gnome-screensaver. I don't see gnome-screensaver in the ps aux list, which means it's not running as a background process, and i am not invoking it knowingly. If I do invoke it from the terminal it appears in the ps aux list, but the unexpected screensaver activation seems to be independent of this. [Bug 303997] Re: problem with big uids in Users and Groups tool
Again... Tricky issue. Considering the precise bug you found, it comes from the fact that the max [GU]ID was statically defined as 65,535. I'll fix that easily, but I lack a generic way of detecting the actual system maximum for gid_t. I guess I've found a hack that will work, though. That will be for the next release. For now, stay with IDs below 65,535 - anyway, defaults in /etc/login.defs are 60,000. Do you really need this, or is that just a question of principles? ;-) There's also a broader issue: the D-Bus protocol uses a 32-byte int for [UG]IDs, because we use -1 to mean none when talking about main group. So we cannot allow values above G_MAXINT32, which is 2,147,483,647. That can be considered enough, though - but platforms often allow to reach G_MAXUINT32, which is twice this limit, and could go further. This needs a change in the protocol. ** Changed in: system-tools-backends (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: system-tools-backends (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Triaged ** Also affects: liboobs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: liboobs (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: liboobs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- problem with big uids in Users and Groups tool https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303997 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to liboobs in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 491975] [NEW] Display doesn't sleep in Karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager I recently upgraded to Karmic from Jaunty - Dell Inspiron 6400. The problem I face now is that the Gnome power management's sleep timeouts are behaving inconsistently. I've set the display to sleep for 1 minute of inactivity. But from what I've observed, it never goes to sleep after boot up. But if I later open up power manager settings, re-select the 1 minute setting, and then click the Make default button, display _sometimes_ goes to sleep. I've noticed that /apps/gnome-power-manager/timeout/sleep_display_ac and /apps/gnome-power-manager/timeout/sleep_display_battery keys are set to 60 in gconf-editor. But it's rarely honored. FWIW, I've had problems with power manager and display even in Jaunty. I had raised this bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- power-manager/+bug/377166), but that seems to have disappeared now; but this one has come up! OK, that makes sense, in a way. With gnome-screensaver running (invoked from the terminal), I got no screensaver after idle for over an hour. The sudden change still puzzles me; I certainly didn't trigger it by disabling gnome-screensaver in Startup recently, so maybe the updated version didn't get set up correctly. Or maybe I had removed it long ago and the X screensaver only just started working yesterday. It's also strange that uninstalling gnome-screensaver prevents the other (X) screensaver from activating. Or is that because removing gnome- screensaver also removes xscreensaver? I'm not able to reproduce the problem here, so I'd need somebody to answer these questions. In particular, whether this also happens when changing password using 'passwd', rather than using users-admin. Else, the problem lies elsewhere. In Karmic 9.10, even though there is a button to Change Password..., clicking on it does not allow a password change. The only method I know to change password in 9.10 is using the command line. I would hope no one will attempt that through the terminal while logged in, thinking they do not need to log out to have it take effect. -- Charlie Kravetz Linux Registered User Number 425914 [http://counter.li.org/] Never let anyone steal your DREAM. [Bug 490138] Re: games crash
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 488295] Re: gnome-menus extra newline in Yoruba
I can confirm this bug is present in the translations as shown on Launchpad. Upstream translators at GNOME-yo don't have this string translated, so this must be a bug in the Ubuntu translations, even though there seems to be no team actually translating. This bug can be set to Triaged for the gnome-menus packages since it has been handled properly by the bug managers and it's now up to the translators to fix it. [Bug 389182] Re: pdf files appears blank - were OK in Adobe Acrobat in Windows XP
Thanks Timo. The pdf you posted displays correctly for me on Karmic with Adobe Acrobat. I will try Okular with my problem pdf files and report back. PS I was unable to post my problem pdf files that were a problem for me as they contained personal data. Evince and XPDF still have exactly the same issue for me so prevent me from using these readers. Adobe displays the same pdf files correctly so I expect there is some extra information necessary to display the pdf files that is contained in the (much larger) Adobe reader application absent from the pdf files themselves. This rather defeats the point of portable document format if this guess is correct although it may reduce the pdf file size. -- pdf files appears blank - were OK in Adobe Acrobat in Windows XP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/389182 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
