[Bug 534677] Re: [lucid] Broken backlight control with Radeon open-source drivers
** Description changed: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager With the deprecation of hal, gnome-power-manager must rely on the BACKLIGHT property in xrandr; however, the ATI open-source drivers seem not to support this property (regardless of whether KMS is enabled). Additionally, even if I reinstall HAL, the backlight control still does not work -- upon pressing the brightness control keys, notify-OSD shows the slider at a fixed value, but the slider does not move. [Bug 80921] Re: No subpixel rendering
Tobias, your improved-lcd-filtering PPA contains a version of poppler labelled as “0.12.4-0ubuntu4~ppa1”. However, it is actually based on 0.12.4-0ubuntu1, and is missing the changes in Ubuntu’s 0.12.4-0ubuntu2, even though it claims to have a higher version. Similarly for evince 2.29.92-0ubuntu4~ppa1 based on 2.29.92-0ubuntu1, and cairo 1.8.10-2ubuntu4~ppa1 based on 1.8.10-2ubuntu1 (updated Ubuntu versions haven’t been released yet for these, but when they do they will have a lower version number than your packages). You should version packages that are based on Ubuntu’s -XubuntuY as either -XubuntuYppa1 or -Xubuntu(Y+1)~ppa1, not anything higher, because otherwise you might prevent the user from receiving important security upgrades when Ubuntu releases -Xubuntu(Y+1). (If you need to release more than one PPA version, change ppa1 to ppa2, etc.) -- No subpixel rendering https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/80921 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 545521] Re: [Lucid] Gnome-panel applets disappear, freezes, locks up computer, 99% CPU usage
Appears to be a duplicate of bug 479826. I fixed it by removing: ~/.gconf/apps/panel/general/%gconf.xml ~/.gconf/apps/panel/toplevels/panel_1 I think it could be related to dual monitors. I have my laptop, and then my 24 Dell LCD that I plug into. On the Dell, when it's plugged in, I have a panel set to auto hide. When it's not plugged in, that panel doesn't show up on the laptop screen. This all happened randomly when I was not plugged into the monitor. It's a bit scary how it can completely destroy your entire system. I couldn't connect to wireless easily because the wireless applet was gone, it killed X and froze everything, used up tonnes of CPU and memory. When I removed gnome-panel it basically rendered everything (including Nautilus) useless. I'm taking a slightly different route with this now. I'm going to drop all the changes to the profile, and instead make it possible to control the visual appearance of the terminal from the GTK theme. It's already possible to control the background / text colours from the GTK theme, but controlling transparency recquires a small patch to gnome-terminal to expose this property. I've already got a working prototype here now, but it just needs a little bit of refining tomorrow. This will then just behave exactly like any other change in the default theme (new installs / upgrades) and is a much nicer solution than what we have currently ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu Lucid) Status: Triaged = In Progress -- terminal settings messed up after upgrade due to forced profile change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532511 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thanks for the patch! Two things: 1) We do need the same logic applied to empathy-status-icon.c, without it we don't get notifications when the chat window isn't open. OK, I'm going to try to get some debug information on this issue. Could someone experiencing the problem please do the following: 1) Install version of gvfs from my PPA https://launchpad.net/~dgtombs/+archive/ppa. I have uncommented some debug output in the source. 2) killall gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor 3) /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor | tee g-g-v-m.log 4) Plug in your camera to reproduce the error. 5) Unplug camera. 6) Upload g-g-v-m.log here. [Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
The button re-arranger in Ubuntu-tweak (http://ubuntu-tweak.com/) is a nice touch (albeit a bit buggy - it loses the button order if you switch from left to right to left again), but the problem still remains that if you change the order of the buttons it looks awful because the 'indentation' effect relies on all three buttons always being present and always in the order max, min, close. It's a pity because otherwise the indentation effect looks great. -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 545695] Re: Workspace switcher no longer works after adding 17th workspace
A little more information - The window manager is metacity. I can go into gconf-editor and change the number of workspaces there. The same result occurs. When the number of workspaces is set above 16, nothing seems to occur at that point (when num_workspaces is actually changed). However, when I try to change workspaces, metacity dies (window frames disappear and all of the windows move to workspace 1). gconfd-2 starts to hammer the hard drive. By observing top, I can see that metacity is continually being restarted. As soon as I right click on num_workspaces and Unset Key, num_workspaces returns to 4 and everyone is happy again... -- Workspace switcher no longer works after adding 17th workspace https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/545695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I just tested this in Ubuntu 10.04 Beta and it's still the same issue (surprise surprise) as with every other version of ubuntu. Trying the first example I gave before doesn't work. Trying the second example I gave before does work (the same as every other version of ubuntu). I've attempted to look at fixing this issue myself however gnome panel source code documentation is a mess. The README file tells me to look at a non-existant INSTALL file. [Bug 545726] [NEW] Startup applications launch before panel and become lost
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel A have a added a few items to System - Preferences - Startup Applications. One of these is loading very quickly and on a fresh boot starts up before my panels, so there is no notification area. Its icon appears in the top left corner of the screen and will shortly be covered by the panel. Logging out and logging in again things work fine, as the panel loads much faster with everything in cache. [Bug 545733] [NEW] In Programming mode, the top row of binary numbers (33 to 63) are not working as designed.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gcalctool Expected behaviour is that by clicking on 0 values in the binary field, they should toggle to become the number 1 and it's decimal value will appear on the display. [Bug 486154] Re: System beep broken in Karmic despite heroic efforts to fix it
Just to confirm my previous assertion, I installed the Lucid beta on a virtual machine. I applied my patch [1], restarted metacity, and unloaded and reloaded Pulse Audio's module-x11-bell [2]. System bells rang the same bell.ogg sound file, but through Pulse Audio. Additionally, I could now set the volume with `xset b`. Thus, using this patch would result in the *exact same* behavior as currently exists, except that Pulse Audio is making the noise instead of metacity. Stopping the behavior, to reenable to PC speaker, is now just a matter of unloading the module. Additionally, there are fringe benefits: 1) No delay while metacity loads the sample the first time it's needed. 2) No rate limiting of playback by metacity. 3) Consistent handling of system bell events between metacity and compiz. Honestly, what more is desired? In several bugs related to this, I have yet to hear a good explanation for why metacity should be handling system bell events. Here's a chance to switch this capability to a more sensible sub-system and solve several bugs or potential bugs all at once. Why are we not jumping all over this? (Sorry to sound shrill, but I'm rather frustrated at this point.) [1] It didn't quite apply cleanly, but it was easy enough to clean up by hand. I wasn't planning on posting a new patch for Lucid, but if it's desired, let me know. [2] I don't know why un- and re-loading the module-x11-bell was necessary, but I suspect that it's related to the fact that the old metacity had been trapping the system bell events. I suspect, but haven't confirmed, that this won't be necessary once the new metacity is installed and X is restarted. -- System beep broken in Karmic despite heroic efforts to fix it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/486154 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
