[Bug 414634] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in camel_folder_summary_load_from_db()

2010-06-11 Thread Martin Mai
Comment from upstream

I would like to ask you, whether you can retest with evolution-mapi 0.30.x and
if it'll show you, then also paste here a console output before the crash,
whether it'll show some critical warnings or anything similar. Thanks in
advance.

At the moment evolution-mapi 2.30.* or greater is not present in any
Ubuntu version, but it will be at some in the development release. So,
setting to incomplete for now. I will leave another comment when there
is a release to test with.

[Bug 592781] [NEW] Font of running terminal restored incorrectly at login

2010-06-11 Thread Sergio Antoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
GNOME Terminal 2.29.6

In System Preferences Startup Applications Options
check Automatically remember running applications when logging out.

The running application is a gnome terminal in which the font size has
been reduced with a couple of Ctrl+- and the window has been resized as
well.

At the next login font size, window size and window location are not
restored. The terminal font has the default value, the size of the
window is bigger (I guess to accommodate the same number of lines and
columns that it had at logout) and the location is different (I guess to
entirely fit the window in the desktop).

[Bug 576639] Re: Thunderbird 3.04 crashing with Ubuntu 10.04

2010-06-11 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 471542] Re: gdm doesn't load with large passwd file

2010-06-11 Thread Etienne Goyer
Gotta love the version number! :)

Using 2.30.2.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu1, the home directory are not mounted as
soon as GDM runs, which would resolve the bug as reported here.

However, shortly after a user logs in, the directory do get automounted.
I presume there is another process poking into user's home directory
that triggers the automount (user-switcher, perhaps?). But that is not
the topic of this bug, which can be considered resolved.

Thanks guys!

Re: [Bug 79030] Re: gnome-video-thumbnailer uses all available CPU power when using bittorrent

2010-06-11 Thread Everthon Valadão
Good news! The new option of adding a .part suffix at incomplete downloads,
included in the newer version of Transmission bittorrent client, indirectly
helped me with this bug: the thumbnails aren't regenerated anymore.

But this bug still exists: gnome-video-thumbnailer should wait some bigger
interval before updating the thumbnails, not doing it at every single second
for every file of the folder. Speaking of it, here is an idea:
gnome-video-thumbnailer should generate thumbnails only for the files
visible on the current nautilus view, i.e. only the files listed by the
current scroll bars position.

[Bug 580206] Re: gnome-help crashed (segmentation fault) while printing

2010-06-11 Thread Cesare Mastroianni
Hi there.

I try to use valgrind. I then run gnome-help from inside valgrind. I
repeated EXACTLY the same steps-actions that usually generate the crash.
No crash happened. See attached file gnome-help-NOT-crash.txt

Then I ran gnome-help alone, without valgrind. I repeated EXACTLY the
same steps-actions that usually generate the crash. I mean, I peform
EXACTLY the same steps-actions as before (with valgrind) and now I get
the crash. See attached files gnome-help-crash-a.txt and gnome-help-
crash-b.txt.

VERY IMPORTANT: when running from inside valgrdin, the printing
procedure displayed the printer (HW) interface, then a pop-up window
came claiming that the requested page to be printed was not available
... I cannot imagine what this means. When running alone without
valgrind, the printing procedure crashed BEFORE the printer (HW)
interface comes up, and no pop-up window came out.

It seems that valgrind some how bounded the gnome-help behaviour so
that gnome-help succeded in managing a printing page fault, while
without valgrind gnome-help is not able to manage it.

Sorry for my bad english ... furthermore I'm not an expert ...

Any hint will be appreciated.

Ciao

[Bug 592592] Re: Brightness adjustment doesn't work for HP ProBook 4720s

2010-06-11 Thread jerico
I now have a workaround for the brightness hotkeys (not for the other
two problems, though):

1) Create a script brightness.sh:

  #!/bin/bash

  # Valid input?
  if [ $1 != up -a $1 != down ]; then exit 1; fi

  # Current brightness
  CURRENT=`grep current /proc/acpi/video/DGFX/LCD/brightness | egrep -o
'([0-9]{,2}|100)$'`
  if [ -z $CURRENT ]; then exit 1; fi

  # Next value
  if [ $1 = up -a $CURRENT = 0 ]; then
  NEXT=5
  elif [ $1 = down -a $CURRENT = 100 ]; then
  NEXT=96
  else
  if [ $1 = up ]; then
  NEXT=`sed -nr /^levels/ s/.*(^| )$CURRENT ([0-9]{,2}|100)(
|$).*/\2/p /proc/acpi/video/DGFX/LCD/brightness`
  else
  NEXT=`sed -nr /^levels/ s/.*(^| )([0-9]{,2}|100) $CURRENT(
|$).*/\2/p /proc/acpi/video/DGFX/LCD/brightness`
  fi
  fi
  if [ -z $NEXT ]; then exit 1; fi

  # Set new brightness
  echo -n $NEXT | tee /proc/acpi/video/DGFX/LCD/brightness /dev/null
  exit 0

2) sudo apt-get install halevt

3) Edit /etc/halevt/halevt.xml:

!-- Support for Brightness Up/Down Events until #592592 has been solved
--

halevt:Device match=hal.info.category = input

halevt:Condition name=ButtonPressed value=brightness-up
exec=sudo /home/fgrandel/brightness.sh up/

halevt:Condition name=ButtonPressed value=brightness-down
exec=sudo /home/fgrandel/brightness.sh down/

/halevt:Device

4) sudo visudo

# Allow halevt to execute the brightness script

halevt laptop-fg = (root) NOPASSWD: /home/fgrandel/brightness.sh

[Bug 592556] Re: Simbolic link to folder - nautilus doesn't show files in subfolders

2010-06-11 Thread Martin Habovštiak
Now it's weird... After reboot (not deliberately - I have only needed to
shutdown my PC and now I wanted to try reproduce the bug) it's fixed! I can see
the files in nautilus directly and in scripts menu too... So sorry I cant
reproduce the bug...
If you want to try it, do:
$ mkdir -p Ubuntu\ One/Scripts/nautilus-scripts/Conversions
$ mkdir -p Ubuntu\ One/Scripts/nautilus-scripts/Tools
$ mkdir -p Ubuntu\ One/Scripts/nautilus-scripts/Renames
$ echo '#!'  Ubuntu\ One/Scripts/nautilus-scripts/Conversions/convert_video
$ chmod +x Ubuntu\ One/Scripts/nautilus-scripts/Conversions/convert_video
$ mv .gnome2/nautilus-scripts .gnome2/nautilus-scripts-backup
$ ln -s Ubuntu\ One/Scripts/nautilus-scripts/ .gnome2/nautilus-scripts
Now try to open .gnome2/nautilus-scripts/Conversions with nautilus, if you
can't see the files, you've successfully reproduced the bug (you can check
right-click menu with scripts too), if you can see the files, it's probably
bugfoot :)

[Bug 592747] Re: Evince crashed soon after opening a document.

[Bug 592845] [NEW] Gimp crashes during Save As if files in the current folder change

2010-06-11 Thread Ken Sharp

It does work fine for a newly created user.
If the configuration is broken then it's something that has happened during the
upgrade process, it was fine before.

Right-clicking on shortcuts in Places does the same thing as left-clicking: it
tries to open the link (and fails).
I opened a nautilus window and changed the Open with to nautilus, but this

[Bug 592855] [NEW] Postpone typing break is unavailable for 5 seconds

[Bug 592859] [NEW] New Message Notifications in Empathy are not Attention-Grabbing Enough

2010-06-11 Thread otterpop81
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Messages regularly come into Empathy, and I regularly miss them. Some
may think this is subjective, and it is. Some may also think it's just
me, and maybe that's true too, but let me enumerate some of the reasons
why I believe this to be the case:

1. The sound isn't loud enough. Turning up the system volume isn't an
option, as it makes the sounds of everything else too loud. The sound
level of notifications in Empathy is not adjustable like it is in
Pidgin.

2. The new message sound isn't played if the window is focused. This may seem
dumb at first, but there are plenty of times when the window could be focused,
but the user would still miss the message if there is no sound. Consider the
following cases:
a. The conversation window is focused, but I stepped away from the computer (or
looked at my desk),
b. The conversation window is focused, but my attention is on the PDF (or
webpage, or whatever) I have open next to it, and the new IM comes in on a
different tab than the one which is selected.
c. I'm looking at the conversation window, but message comes in on a tab other
than the one selected.

3. The Notification Area icon doesn't get my attention very well. In the
default theme, it's a white envelope which turns green when there is a
new message. This violates the GNOME HIG, for attributing meaning to a
color change (since some people are colorblind). One could say that
white to green is still visible to a colorblind person (certainly to
_some_ colorblind people, as colorblindness isn't the same for
everyone), but even so, it's not hard to imagine the icon being
difficult to distinguish to someone who has trouble seeing color. I am
not a colorblindness expert, but I know what's in the HIG.

4. When a message comes in from a person who doesn't have a tab open in
the conversation window, their icon flashes in the buddy list. That's
great, except that the buddy list is often minimized or behind other
stuff, obscuring the flashing. (I do like the flashing though; it makes
me think of the good old ICQ days, when life was simple). I put it here
because, while it is good, it's insufficient, and I don't want people to
quickly reply with why don't you just look at the flashing icon in the
buddy list

5. When a message comes in, in the conversation window, the icon next to
the name of the person who sent the message changes from green to white.
Yes, the exact _opposite_ of the notification area icon. Upon close
inspection, the green and the white _are_ different icons, but barely.
Without seeing the color, I don't know if I'd be able to tell the
difference, certainly not at a glance. Again, HIG, etc.

6. The Window Manager URGENT bit is set on the window. This is good.
The problem is that with the new default Ubuntu theme, the button in the
window list doesn't grab your attention, as it looks very close to the
way the button for the focused window looks, which is not very different
from the way the rest of the buttons look.

Is this subjective? Sure. However, I've been using Gaim/Pidgin for
years, and I've never had the problem of missing IM messages.

I understand that it's a hard problem. People complain when it's too
annoying, and people complain when it's not attention-grabbing enough,
and you can't please everybody. Can I submit though, that Pidgin has
been around the block; they've been through all this before, and for
quite a while now, has had a pretty standard way of getting the
attention of the user. I think what they've come up with is pretty good,
and it didn't happen overnight. There's no reason we have to re-invent
all this stuff with Empathy. How about incorporating some of the good
ideas that Gaim/Pidgin have developed over the years and consider using
them. Not Invented Here really doesn't help anyone when it comes to
human factors.

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2010-06-11 Thread KenC
@richard

 I did not find Chromium, but I saw 'MetaGrip by Sergio Tocalini Joerg'
in the Themes/WindowBorders at art.gnome.org/themes/metacity?page=1

I took the word 'grip' in the title as a hint, and it does seem to have
wider borders. Seems much better as a work-around at least.

And I'll add to the chorus, this needs to be resolved in the default
distribution. All the great things that Ubuntu/Linux have to offer can
get blown away if a new user can't easily do a simple hundreds-of-
times-a-day operation like re-size a window.

[Bug 589461] Re: Does not detect hotplugged USB storage device with USB wireless

2010-06-11 Thread Uwe Geuder
Hi Felicia!

In response to your questions in https://bugs.launchpad.net/584052 :

I have really no clue whether your problem here is a duplicate of any of
the existing reports or something different.

I would recommend to update udisks before any further investigations. If you
don't want to wait,
a new version 1.0.1-1ubuntu1 is already available in lucid-proposed as
mentioned in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udisks/+bug/539515/comments/120 .
Otherwise you have to wait a while until this or yet a newer version becomes
available in normal lucid-updates.

If upgrading alone does not just solve the issue and you need to
continue investigations, it might be interesting to compare the output
of udisks --dump when the USB drive is recognized to the case when
it's not recognized.

Hi Uwe,

Thank you! I'm feeling experimental so I'll try the proposed version and

By the way, I discovered that I never really needed to turn off
automount in order to use my mp3 player in Rhythm Box. It turns out that
Rhythm box can use it just fine, I just don't see the devise as a drive
in places...don't really need to.

[Bug 579044] Re: Setting disable_user_list to true causes gdm to crash on clicking Log In

2010-06-11 Thread Joel Ebel
The oem user gets removed at the end of the oem-config process. I'll
have to do some checking to see if a specific option breaks it, but I
notice that a standard (non-oem) install doesn't have the file at all,
so it seems like the oem-config process should remove that file upon
completion. Though it also seems like gdm itself might be better
equipped to deal with the problem.

This is not a problem with the current version in proposed, but 2.30.2
does have some fixes we are looking forward to getting, which the
version in proposed doesn't offer.

[Bug 579044] Re: Setting disable_user_list to true causes gdm to crash on clicking Log In

2010-06-11 Thread Joel Ebel
It appears that the problem is in the TimedLogin feature. If you set
TimedLoginEnable=true, you must also set a valid user in TimedLogin and
a valid delay in TimedLoginDelay. If either of those is not set, or if
the TimedLogin user is invalid, as was the case once oem was removed,
then the behavior described above occurs. Keep in mind that this all
depends on the user list being disabled.

Re: [Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-06-11 Thread A.K.Karthikeyan
I experienced this bug yesterday, on my desktop running Ub 10.04

On Fri, Jun 11, 2010 at 4:17 PM, rupert r.plumri...@gmail.com wrote:

 Further to my earlier comment this issue has returned on occasion, so it
 isn't fixed for me, however, it is happening less, say once a week and
 only with the Date applet.

 @Teej I think all Alex was saying was that he has seen this bug on two
 others machines, one owned by his Dad and one owned by his Uncle. As
 Alex had already reported the issue, he thought there was no point his
 Dad and Uncle also reporting the same issue. I guess, however, that
 technically, he should sign them up for accounts so they can report the
 issue. Since a bug with one person reporting it might seem not that
 important, but with three people reporting it seems more important.

 Oh, and great you bumped this up to Medium.

[Bug 592938] [NEW] Lyrics downloaded from http://letras.terra.com.br have misformed apostrophe's

2010-06-11 Thread deibhaid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Apostrophe's are malformed as html(?) tags when downloaded from
http://letras.terra.com.br. This is an example of lyrics:

The Soft Collision
Machines Of Loving Grace

Soft now- the lips that dragged me down
Soft now- until I hit the ground
The night is soft
The light is soft
And i don#039;t want to wear this off- tonight
Sleep alone- seems to me
The virus bleeds

Soft now- she played her love scenes well soft now-
Should have sensed the sulphur smell
Soften the blow
Finger to tongue tongue to finger
Honey smear
Finger to tongue tongue to finger
Soften the blow
