[Bug 792497] Re: Gnome-session crashed by various applications

2011-06-06 Thread Aisano
It just happened again: When I opened calibre and clicked on the
convert icon my GNOME session crashed, leaving me with the login
screen. Linux was fine and even preserved my open DSL connection.

I attach my auth.log and syslog, which seem to contain a few suspicious lines,
such as:
* polkitd(authority=local): Unregistered Authentication Agent for
unix-session:/org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Session2...
* gdm-session-worker[4652]: WARNING: Unable to load file
'/etc/gdm/custom.conf'...
* gdm-simple-greeter[4649]: Gtk-WARNING:
/build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.24.4/gtk/gtkwidget.c:5687: widget not within a GtkWindow
* gdm-session-worker[4652]: GLib-GObject-CRITICAL: g_value_get_boolean:
assertion `G_VALUE_HOLDS_BOOLEAN (value)' failed

Especially the assertion in the last line does not seem very reassuring
to me but I have no idea what may have caused it. Grepping older logs
shows, however, that this assertion was also logged on days when Gnome
did not crash.

[Bug 793763] [NEW] The resize window area is overlaying with buttons

2011-06-06 Thread Alex Moldovan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

The resize window area is overlaying with some buttons. It happens in
Gnome (No effects) so it's not related to compiz. To reproduce, open
Appearance and switch back and forth between themes. You'll see that
the resize windows area comes over the Close button. This happens in
other instances using other applications but this is the first example
that came to my mind. I will try to post other occurrences of this
issue. See the down right corner of the screenshot, the edge of the

[Bug 689426] Re: Confusing error message when an audio call fails

2011-06-06 Thread Arseniy Alekseyev
Sorry for slow response. I have updated the report with the empathy
version and the steps to reproduce. Actually this is not really a bug,
but rather just bad error message.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: empathy
+
+ I am using empathy 2.34.0.

I received the following message when the sound capture failed during an
  audio call:

There was a failure in the call engine:
  Could not link source

The underlying problem turned out to be incorrect configuration of the
default gstreamer source. I had /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosrc GConf
key set to osssrc while I did not have OSS installed.
ALSA-based applications worked perfectly so I had no idea why empathy would
fail.

- The problem became obvious when I executed the following command: gst-
+
+ So, steps to reproduce:
+ - Set the value of gconf variable '/system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosrc'
to 'osssrc' without OSS installed.
+ - Run empathy.
+ - Connect to a google talk, for example.
+ - Try to make an audio or video-call.
+
+ You will receive that confusing message.
+
+
+ The problem becomes obvious when I execute the following command: gst-
  launch-0.10 gconfaudiosrc ! gconfaudiosink

- The output clearly showed what went wrong:
+ The output shows what's wrong:

ERROR: from element /GstBin:bin0/GstOssSrc:osssrc0: Could not open audio
device for recording.
  Additional debug info:
  gstosssrc.c(379): gst_oss_src_open (): /GstBin:bin0/GstOssSrc:osssrc0:
Unable to open device /dev/dsp for recording: No such file or directory

- I think it would be great if the empathy error Technical details
- showed this information or at least hint what it was trying to do (open
- the gconfaudiosrc gstreamer element).

- Even a slight modification of the error message could make it vastly more
useful:
+ I think it would be great if the empathy error Technical details showed the
information reported or at least hint what it was trying to do (open the
gconfaudiosrc gstreamer element).
+
+ Even a slight modification of the error message could make it vastly more
useful, like
Could not link gstreamer source 'gconfaudiosrc'.

[Bug 327082] Re: Totem crashes on loading files

2011-06-06 Thread Paul van Genderen
This is still an issue in Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 (fully updated) but the
request_code is different so I'm not sure if it's the same bug.

The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 93 error_code 2 request_code 133 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I could not break on gdk_x_error, will look into it later.

[Bug 610131] Re: Facebook contacts cannot be added to groups

2011-06-06 Thread Kyle Nystrom
Honestly, how is this bug classified as Won't Fix? Facebook is one of
the most utilized protocols regardless of which client someone uses.
The whole point of using an IM client such as empathy, pidgin, or digsby
is to combine multiple protocols into one EASY TO USE interface.

If the empathy developers really don't have the time or want to put in
the effort to fix an issue associated with one of their biggest
protocols that is fine, but they should also expect to lose users in the
process.

Again, the reason most users want to use empathy, or clients like
empathy, is to group contacts from multiple sources into a single, easy
to use interface.

I hope that this is fixed soon, or I will be turning to a different
client that fixes issues like this.

[Bug 769234] Re: Notifications are delayed if contacts send messages too fast

2011-06-06 Thread Th3Pr0ph3t
@Martin Pitt : I tested the way this works on Unity and I'm impressed:
It works great! --at least with one contact sending several messages.

However, testing the thing more thoroughly -- and I don't think this will truly
be a problem -- I noticed that if two people send one message per second or so
the second person's messages are not notified at all.
MSN messenger responds to this with several notifications, one on top of the
other.
Empathy 2.34.0 from the -proposed repository seems to handle this quite well.

The fix is good for me and the quick response to this bug was great.

Thanks for fixing it so fast!
