Laying this one to rest. Thank you Mozilla dev team. ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585061 Title: Segfaults in nsUrlClassifierDBService.cpp when homedir is inaccessible Status in The Mozilla Firefox Browser: Fix Released Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: firefox This concerns firefox 3.6.3+nobinonly-0ubuntu4 in Ubuntu Lucid. I use Firefox on a system in which home directories are served from an AFS file server. When a user's Kerberos authentication expires, access to the entire home directory is cut off, and all attempts to read or write to it fail with EACCES. This occurs regularly on my workstation: I stay logged in for weeks at a time, with a more-or-less permanent instance of Firefox running, and every night after I leave work my authentication expires and Firefox sits for a few hours without any access to its configuration files under ~/.mozilla/. When I return in the morning, I renew my authentication, and my home directory becomes accessible again, but by this point Firefox has usually vanished without a trace. I debugged this problem using a local build of the Firefox deb source, and have found where the segfaults are occurring: All of them appear to be in nsUrlClassifierDBService.cpp. The code assumes in a couple of places that mConnection is non-NULL, but every time the browser crashes on me, that assumption did not hold. I am attaching a preliminary patch that, so far, has eliminated the crashes. I now find Firefox still hanging around every morning, with a number of "A script has become unresponsive..." dialogs that are easily cleared away. Running Ubuntu 11.10 (upgraded from 11.04) 64-bit on Intel Core i7 2600 (SandyBridge). I am not using the integrated graphics but using ATI Radeon HD 5450. Random freezes occurring while trying to unlock from locked screen. Initially could use Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get a console. Tried to kill my previous session using skill -KILL . [Desktop-packages] [Bug 877631] Re: AssertionError after interruption/restart of backup
OK, I got in touch with Louis. Reproduction steps: 1) Make sure your LANGUAGE is de, es, fr, id, it, pt_BR, or sl and you have the appropriate language packs installed. 2) Follow the reproduction steps are in comment #11. Why this bug happens: In duplicity 0.6.15, a new feature was added to report to frontends (like deja-dup) whether the backup was encrypted. This was used in deja-dup to detect encryption on the fly and thus streamline the UI by dropping a preference checkbox. To support older versions of duplicity, deja-dup added some detection code that relied on parsing a string intended for the user. Which is not normally a wise thing to do. But in 0.6.14 and before, that string was not marked for translation, so I felt it was safe to parse the string. Then, it was discovered that a bug existed in 0.6.15's detection feature, and I reverted to the string parsing method of detection for that version. But in the mean time, that string had been marked for translation for 0.6.15's release. So for those languages that translate that string, deja-dup does not notice the encryption and will continue an encrypted backup as unencrypted, creating this bug. The fix: Implement a slightly different string parsing that does not depend on the translation for 0.6.15. I am working on a patch for 22 and will backport that to 20 once it is approved. ** Also affects: deja-dup (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: deja-dup/20 Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to deja-dup in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/877631 Title: AssertionError after interruption/restart of backup Status in Déjà Dup Backup Tool: Incomplete Status in Déjà Dup 20 series: New Status in “deja-dup” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “deja-dup” source package in Oneiric: New Bug description: when starting a backup with Ubuntu 11.10 it starts to initialize but then fails with the following error message: "Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/duplicity", line 1359, in with_tempdir(main) File "/usr/bin/duplicity", line 1342, in with_tempdir fn() File "/usr/bin/duplicity", line 1222, in main globals.archive_dir).set_values() File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/duplicity/collections.py", line 684, in set_values self.get_backup_chains(partials + backend_filename_list) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/duplicity/collections.py", line 807, in get_backup_chains map(add_to_sets, filename_list) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/duplicity/collections.py", line 797, in add_to_sets if set.add_filename(filename): File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/duplicity/collections.py", line 94, in add_filename (self.volume_name_dict, filename) AssertionError: ({1: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol1.difftar.gpg', 10: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol10.difftar.gpg', 11: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol11.difftar.gpg', 12: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol12.difftar.gpg', 13: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol13.difftar.gpg', 14: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol14.difftar.gpg', 15: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol15.difftar.gpg', 16: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol16.difftar.gpg', 17: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol17.difftar.gpg', 18: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol18.difftar.gpg', 19: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol19.difftar.gpg', 20: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol20.difftar.gpg', 21: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol21.difftar.gpg', 22: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol22.difftar.gpg', 23: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol23.difftar.gpg', 24: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol24.difftar.gpg', 25: u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol25.difftar.gpg'}, u'duplicity-full.20111018T090402Z.vol25.difftar.gz')" I'm trying to make a backup to my Ubuntu One online storage with my backup being encrypted. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 884684] Re: libreoffice calc crashes on copying some columns
Allo, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/884684 Title: libreoffice calc crashes on copying some columns Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Steps to reproduce: - open some spreadsheet, .csv or .ods does not matter - select some data (text, numbers), like 5x8 cells - hit ctrl-c or right-click -> "copy" - some moments later, calc crashes without any errormessage ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: libreoffice-calc 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-12.20-generic 3.0.4 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-12-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 Date: Tue Nov 1 11:28:08 2011 InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" - Release amd64 (20111012) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE= PATH=(custom, user) LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: libreoffice UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/884684/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups
Well one thing I can think of is the "dodge" animation will probably look kind of weird when not on the leftmost monitor. I know the Gnome panels used to have a problem where auto-hide would cause the panel to "hide" by sliding into another monitor's view. Maybe instead of a "sliding" motion, it should be more of a "flipping" motion, as if it were a flat piece of glass on a hinge attached to the monitor edge. That would probably be a design issue, but it would only apply when the launcher can already be moved to a different monitor. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/742544 Title: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups Status in Ayatana Design: Invalid Status in Unity: In Progress Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: WORKAROUND FOR 11.10: None available right now. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 875306] Re: English descriptions should distinguish free as in "freedom" or "free beer" to avoid translation issues
@Gabor: This won't work (ie. your change is good but not enough to fix this bug). In your branch, run "python setup.py build_i18n" and then open the "po/software-center.pot" file. You will find that there is now: #. TRANSLATORS: Free here means Gratis #: ../softwarecenter/ui/gtk3/views/appdetailsview_gtk.py:276 #: ../softwarecenter/ui/gtk3/views/appdetailsview_gtk.py:538 #: ../softwarecenter/ui/gtk3/widgets/buttons.py:247 #: ../softwarecenter/ui/gtk3/widgets/buttons.py:250 #: ../softwarecenter/ui/gtk3/widgets/buttons.py:252 msgid "Free" So we still can't distinguish the two distinct "Free" in translations. We need to use Gettext context feature ( http://www.gnu.org/s/hello/manual/gettext/Contexts.html ). Unfortunately, it seems that Python does not expose this by default, so it needs some work. (there is some clues in this thread: http://bugs.python.org/issue2504 ) Something easier may be to just change one of these string, eg. to "Gratis", "Free Software" or whatever suit you. ** Bug watch added: Python Roundup #2504 http://bugs.python.org/issue2504 ** Changed in: ubuntu-translations Assignee: Ubuntu French Translators (ubuntu-l10n-fr) => (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875306 Title: English descriptions should distinguish free as in "freedom" or "free beer" to avoid translation issues Status in Ubuntu Translations: Triaged Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This may be a translation bug : Non-free softwares as Adobe Flash Plugin 10 (the package version is flash 11, another bug ?) and skype are marked as "libre", but they are not pieces of free software. btw., there's lots of better files for doing that. If you can't do it in any proper way inside the gnome environment, write it into a separate file and use a ". file" in .profile. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 884986] [NEW] language-selector-gnome modifies ~/.profile
Public bug reported: Hi, I just found that changing the language settings through gnome-control- center modifies ~/.profile This is an absolute NO GO. Never ever automatically modify ~/.profile. Plenty of reasons. One reason is that it can make it impossible to login if something does not work as expected. Second is that it makes it difficult/impossible to keep the profiles in sync between different machines. This is severe bad design. If you can't do it in any proper way inside the gnome environment, write it into a separate file and use a ". file" in .profile. But never ever try to fiddle around or overwrite a user-written .profile. BTW, the script fails if the .profile contains several export commands e.g. in a case instruction. This is *REALLY BAD*. (which, btw., proves that moving the language setting from the Desktop Manager into the Desktop was definitely a bad idea. This is worse than just poor design. This is really idiotic.) We need to do this in the U1MS extension, when a u1ms:// link is passed into banshee. If banshee is already running, this doesn't seem to be an issue, as things are relatively idle. However, at startup, there is a lot more activity happening, and active source notification seems to race with the main loop, sometimes failing, causing the source switch to not happen, or causing the source to switch, but leaving the selected source in the source tree list on the sidebar, to be incorrect. TESTCASE: This is an extremely difficult bug to replicate. In order to do so, you would need to have the libubuntuone 0.11.0-0ubuntu3 packages installed from oneiric-proposed (or libubuntuone from the U1 Nightlies PPA), and a version of banshee with the patch to fix bug #872972, but without the patch to fix this bug. Under these conditions, opening a u1ms:// link without banshee already running will result in either the U1MS source not being switched to at all, or with it being displayed by default, but with the source selection in the tree of sources on the left sidebar remaining on the Music library source. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 868095] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashes on resume in VMware
I'm seeing the same behavior on 11.10 after updating this morning. Alonso's workaround doesn't apply to me as it occurs on my physical system. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 879456] Re: Typeahead functionality for nautilus is broken
Under a fresh install using Gnome Shell, I experience the same problem with the text field never clearing and Backspace navigating backwards in icon view. It's a severe usability regression. I'm looking forward to the fix, whether it's upstream or here. Should be noted that the backspace issue is only half of the issue - the other half is that the typehead field doesn't clear after navigating to a subfolder. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879456 Title: Typeahead functionality for nautilus is broken Status in Nautilus: New Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This bug is similar to: #857710 File selection by typing is buggy sometimes Description: Ubuntu 11.10 Release: 11.10 nautilus: Installed: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1 However the person that was assigned to that bug told me to file a new one because supposedly it is a different bug. I installed the nautilus 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1 package from ubuntu proposed and all packages related and I still experience the following behavior: Expected behavior: - Open nautilus in ANY folder. - Start typing name of folder/file. - Nautilus selects folders/file matching as you type (one file at a time matching what is in the search/typeahead box). - Type backspace - Deletes the last character typed in search/typeahead box Actual Behavior - Open nautilus in ANY folder. - Start typing the name of a folder/file. - Sometimes the search box opens and sometimes it does not. (BUG) - If it does open, after a letter or two the search box disappears. (BUG) - If you change folders sometimes the box reappears as you start typing other times it disappears. (BUG) - If the box re-appears typing in Back-space does not delete the text present in the box, instead it navigates backwards (Unexpected behavior) - If it disappears It does not re-appear until you close and re-open nautilus. (BUG) This happens in ALL views (Icon, List, Compact) with or without status bar enabled (Some suggested that the status bar fixes this, it does not). The newly released packages (nautilus* 3.2.1) DO NOT fix this bug. I am on Ubuntu 11.10 64Bit Using Gnome 3.2 and Gnome Shell. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 12893] Re: Shouldn't put .Trash-$USER on removable devices
True. I would at least suggest the way, that everyone can choose to have a trash or not have a trash on removable devices. If it's so hard to implement this, then at least ASK the user when ejecting, if one wants to empty the trash. Or... if the user wants to copy files on the removable device and there is not enough space, because of the files in the trash, then ASK, if trash should be opened. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/12893 Title: Shouldn't put .Trash-$USER on removable devices Status in Nautilus: Fix Released Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in Baltix GNU/Linux: New Status in “nautilus” package in Debian: Fix Released Bug description: I'm sick and tired of finding that my digital camera card is full after deleting all the pictures, and my iAudio still plays deleted files. This is because instead of deleting files from removal devices, Nautilus creates a .Trash-$USER directory and moves the files into there. Can we please make the default be to _not_ do this? It makes (some) sense for the main drive, but removable ones tend to be "temporary" storage. A better alternative would be to remove the files from the removable device and into the user's home directory .Trash http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138058: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138058 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/12893/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
