Bug description:
  [Impact]
Recoverable GPU hang on Broadwell when playing video, triggered at least by
trying some Unity UI scaling values.

  [Test Case]
  gst-launch-1.0 videotestsrc pattern=snow !
'video/x-raw,format=UYVY,width=640,height=360' ! xvimagesink

the video will pause, then resume with varied success. Next attempt
  will fail.

  [Regression Potential]
Everything seems to work after the upstream patch.

  patches and modules

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 12.10

I am getting absolutely no sound at all from my Audigy 2 setup. I have
  performed the following actions:

  - Unmuted all channels in alsamixer
  - Disabled onboard audio
  - Tried various packages
  - Completely wiped and reinstalled Ubuntu
  - Updated all software packages
  - Verified via aplay -l that my soundcard is recognized (it is)
  - Tried all of the port jacks on the back of the soundcard
  - Downloaded liblo10k (emu10k patch)

Still, nothing. When I go to Sound Settings, I have a choice between
the S/PDIF and two analog outputs on my Audigy. Selecting any one of
the three and then testing produces no sound at all. Speakers verified
to work fine with a Windows 7 OS on the same machine.

The sound card limit to 32 bits address space, you need to specify
wavetable size if sound fonts larger than 32 MB

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1335835] Re: Sometime, Beforce 5 seconds that unity lock screen appeared, user sessions screen was visbled

2015-11-28 Thread raguanu
I often experience this problem with 15.04 and now with 15.10 too.

When I open the lid of the laptop, it wakes up from suspend, and it
should show me the (un)lock screen -- according to my settings. But it
shows my desktop with all open windows for a moment before showing lock
screen.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1314871] Re: Graphics freeze, with applications continuing working properly

2015-11-28 Thread blding
I have the same problem after a fresh installation of Ubuntu 14.04.3
LTS. My laptop is Thinkpad W530, the graphics card is Nvidia K1000. I
use two monitors and the the screen freezes from time to time when I
running Chrome. I can move the mouse, but everything else freezes.

Ctrl+Alt+F1 does not work for me. But I can restart the machine with the
magic key (Alt+PrtSc+REISUB)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1404683] Re: page title appears both in title bar and below it

2015-11-28 Thread Adam Dingle
This problem still occurs in Epiphany 3.18 on Ubuntu 16.04. The above
patch works there too.

In my opinion this patch makes Epiphany a lot nicer to use - I think
Ubuntu should adopt it.

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 12.10

I am getting absolutely no sound at all from my Audigy 2 setup. I have
  performed the following actions:

  - Unmuted all channels in alsamixer
  - Disabled onboard audio
  - Tried various packages
  - Completely wiped and reinstalled Ubuntu
  - Updated all software packages
  - Verified via aplay -l that my soundcard is recognized (it is)
  - Tried all of the port jacks on the back of the soundcard
  - Downloaded liblo10k (emu10k patch)

Still, nothing. When I go to Sound Settings, I have a choice between
the S/PDIF and two analog outputs on my Audigy. Selecting any one of
the three and then testing produces no sound at all. Speakers verified
to work fine with a Windows 7 OS on the same machine.

The side effects of this is rendering throughput is dropped by 10%

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1500673] Re: gdm unusable after upgrading to 15.10

2015-11-28 Thread Jacob Maher
I found this bug after trying to swap to GDM on ubuntu 15.10. I have overcome
it thanks to people working through this.
It seems that whatever the `ubuntu-gnome-default-settings` package does seems
to help also un-comment-ing `WaylandEnable=false` in /etc/gdm/custom.conf is
what needs to be done about it

The latter may only be because I use NVIDIA proprietary drivers

gdm unusable after upgrading to 15.10

Status in gdm package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Hi there -- I figured I'd try 15.10 a few days before release, and
when gdm is the default greeter, I see no login prompt and I have to
CTRL-ALT-F1 to get to a terminal. As far as I can tell, there's
nothing interesting in the logs in /var/log or /var/log/gdm. I just
  get a blank, black screen.

As a side note, I'm seeing the error messages described in
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1492764, but I
don't think they are the root cause for a missing X-server (AFAICT,
  there's no X server starting).

Please advice on how I can troubleshoot further. `dkg-reconfigure gdm`
and choosing lightdm yields a GUI login prompt in lightdm.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1051665] Re: [USB-Audio - SB X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro, playback] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound

2015-11-28 Thread ThomasMartitz
FWIW, I'm on archlinux but experience the same issue (and I did so back
when I used ubuntu).

I thought I'd share that I could fix the crackling noise by disabling
realtime scheduling. Here's my daemon.conf which produces fine sound:

$ cat ~/.config/pulse/daemon.conf
default-sample-rate = 48000
alternate-sample-rate = 44100
default-sample-format = s16le
realtime-scheduling = no

[USB-Audio - SB X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro, playback] Underruns, dropouts

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
The sound is constantly crackling when I'm listening to the music. If
I listen to last.fm or youtube for instance in my Chromium browser the
sound is really good. If I try to use Rhythmbox or Banshee first
couple of songs may be heard fine but then crackling comes. Especially
crackling starts if I launch Skype. Even if later I turn Skype off
  still the sound remains bad.

I failed to try to redirect the sound directly to ALSA device
bypassing PulseAudio server (I didn't find audio settings neither in
Rhythmbox nor Banshee) so I cannot tell whether the problem depends on
the server or it lays somewhere below in ALSA subsystem.

Also I tried to play with default-fragments and default-fragment-size-msec
values in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf but it didn't help. Then having read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems page I added tsched=0 argument
to
load-module module-udev-detect line in /etc/pulse/default.pa. The result was
not successful.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1508177] Re: [SRU] Starting LibreOffice with an empty profile from the ISO creates a profile selecting galaxy, not human as theme

2015-11-28 Thread Amr Ibrahim
I fixed this in LibreOffice 5 by explicitly installing libreoffice-gtk3
in Ubuntu 14.04 amd64. I think it has something to do with VCL and GTK+3
integration. I have galaxy installed too.

I can see all icons in human and sifr themes now.

[SRU] Starting LibreOffice with an empty profile from the ISO creates
a profile selecting galaxy, not human as theme

Status in Release Notes for Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice source package in Wily:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Severely reduces the initial impression of LibreOffice on a fresh install
from ISO.

  [Test Case]
  STEPS:
  1. Install the latest daily cd image
  2. Open libreoffice writer check the theme and close it

  EXPECTED:
I expect the theme to always be human unless I explicitly change it

  ACTUAL:
The default theme on a new install is galaxy, though human is installed.

(Alternatively: Test what theme LibreOffice selects when
  ~/.config/libreoffice is rm-rfed and there are libreoffice-style-human
  and libreoffice-style-galaxy installed)

  [Regression Potential]
Very low. No fallout expected from the change back to a better default theme:
Trivial low risk two-line fix.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1444226] Re: [Kubuntu 15.04 beta] can't connect to wifi with Ralink RT2561/RT61 and NetworkManager

2015-11-28 Thread Ariel Sebastián Becker
I tried the solution proposed in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1442908/comments/4
and it worked. You can use wicd-kde instead wicd-gtk; but, besides that,
you must follow the instructions. Wicd doesn't recognizes automatically
the encryption, so you must try the most common: WEP, WPA (passphrase).

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hello.
  I have a Ralink with RT2561/RT61 chip:
  $ lspci | grep -i network
05:00.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI

In Kubuntu 15.04 my connection is very unstable using NetworkManager.
Most of the time the connection is not established. And very few times
the connection is established but after a few seconds the connection
drops. Unfortunately in this new Kubuntu version if you try to
uninstall "network-manager" then "plasma-desktop" is requested to be
  uninstalled (apparently because of "plasma-nm").

WORKAROUND: I installed Wicd from Kubuntu 14.04 using "chroot":
1- Start the system and try not use Network Manager
  2- kill network manager
  $ sudo pkill -9 NetworkManager
3- Start wicd from "menu" > "internet"

Status in Poppler:

Bug description:
  Hi,

There is problem searching Hebrew text in pdf files in evince. The
text I write in the find box is being found in reverse (perhaps in
visual order), and not in the right order of characters. The searching
works in Adobe Acrobat, so I'm guessing its not a problem in the pdf
  file itself.

  I'll attach an example pdf.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Open the attached pdf.
  2. Search for the word "ידיעון" (The letter "י" is the first in logical
order). The text is not found in the file.
  2. Search for the reversed word "ןועידי". (The letter "ן" is first in logical
order). The text is found in reverse in the file.

  Regards,
  Haggai Eran

Bug description:
If an HP printer needs HPLIP with HP's proprietary plug-in (firmware
files for printers, proprietary driver code pieces for printing and/or
scanning) the automatically initiated installation of the plug-in
fails and causes crash reports, leading to crash report pop-ups and
non-working printing and scanning functionality. The problem is caused
by the switchover from Python2 to Python3 in Vivid, especially also
that the Python3 executable is named "python3" and not "python".

If the crash happens shortly before shutdown or reboot the pop-up can
  appear right after log-in.

  [Impact]

All Vivid users who use a printer or multi-function device which needs
HP's proprietary plug-in get crash pop-ups and their devices will not
completely work or not work at all.

  [Test Case]

Connect an HP printer or multi-function device which needs the plug-in
(for which models see this bug report and the numerous duplicates) and
set it up. As soon as the plug-in gets downloaded and installed, crash
reports pop up, and the devices functionality which needs the plug-in
will not work as plug-in installation does not complete.

The proposed package solves the problem.

To test without having an appropriate printer, simply run the command

  hp-plugin

in a terminal window. With the current package it will fail as
mentioned, with the proposed package plug-in installation will
  succeed.

  [Regression Potential]

Very low. The patch is trivial and it affects only users who need the
plug-in. All users of other HP printers or non-HP printers are not
  affected.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

  nescessary to provide it.

To reproduce, change the theme to one which uses a different mouse and
watch it switch between the themed and default cursor as you move it
around your screen (eg in forefox its correct but on launcher its
not). I would attach a screenshot, but the screenshot renders the
pointer correctly at all times -- is this a compiz issue?

I'm using 12.04 and I have a dual head setup. This issue was there
before I started using the proprietary drivers.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1450436] Re: Configure Chromecast as monitor

2015-11-28 Thread Mateo Salta
it won't really detect it without major doing, but I see windows has a
trick for doing it forcing to extend to a nonexistant display then
mirroring all the content to the chromecast in which the content going
to the tv is first, and content going to the computer is able to be
managed- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miGe5u-LFYQ

maybe setting the virtural desktop to extend to the left so over flow
starts on the tv - would be a dirty hack - but would make it very nice
to throw anything you want up to a tv.

Title:
  Configure Chromecast as monitor

Status in unity-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
THIS IS A KIND FEATURE REQUEST -- not a bug

Under System "Settings > Displays" it would be really nice, if
Chromecast devices were automatically detected and appeared like any
normal monitor that is connected directly to the computer; ie. unity-
control-center should transparently allow the Chromecast device to be
used as a secondary or even a primary monitor, configure mirroring,
  launcher placement, scale and everything.

Resolution of a chromecast is most likely fixed and the option should
therefore be ghosted. But when configuring a screencast-to-Chromecast
from the Chrome browser, an image-quality-vs-refresh-speed option is
present, so a dropdown for this is necessary here too. Remember to
state the Chromecast device name so one can tell multiple chromecasts
  from another.

I've added a screenshot to demonstrate the idea.

I'm currently running Ubuntu 14.04, so I don't know if this has
actually been implemented in 15.04. But I haven't found any blogs
  describing it.

Bug description:
In the first two weeks of owning a Broadwell T550, I have suffered
about two dozen abrupt power-offs. This has happened:

  a) While resuming from suspend.
  b) While in normal operation and just moving the mouse.
  c) While switching from X to console by pressing ctrl-alt-F1.

There was no kernel panic, no log files, just an abrupt power-off.

In conjunction with several other HD5500 issues, I am starting to
suspect the intel video driver, and have switched to the modesetting
driver. Setting the Intel driver to use AccelMethod: none made the
system more reliable but did not eliminate crashes.

required a udev rule entry to get them to mount automatically)

  4) Check it's size, it reads zero.
  5) Check size in a Nautilus, it reads zero.
  6) Unmount the device in Nautilus.
  7) Remount the device in Nautilus.

Copying files using Nautilus appears to work properly, but this
excludes the use of a wide range of utilities, such as `cp`, `rsync`

Title:
Intel HD5500: No video after suspend/resume cycle

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Thinkpad T550, Vivid
  Suspend/resume works sometimes.
On restore, no image on X. System apparently still active, because keyboard
light (e.g. mute) still responding.
Could not switch to console using ctrl-alt-f1.

  Thinkpad T550, Trusty
Suspend/resume worked almost every time for 2 weeks.

light-locker seems to screw things up by changing video modes, so I always
remove that. Suspend/resume/lock/etc always fails with light-locker.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1518003] [NEW] Severe OpenGL rendering issues in games

2015-11-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

As I also asked in http://askubuntu.com/questions/698855/severe-
rendering-issues-in-games-intel-hd-4000-ubuntu-15-10

After updating Ubuntu to 15.10, 3D Steam games don't render things
correctly. The issue is so severe that it is unplayable, as polygons are
smeared all over the screen (see screenshots in the askubuntu link
above).

GLGears works fine, so I looked for advanced OpenGL samples I can test
it on but couldn't find anything, not ready to use nor something I need
to compile.

My processor is Intel® Core™ i5-4430 CPU @ 3.00GHz × 4 and I use the processors
graphics, i.e. Intel HD 4000 series (Intel® Haswell Desktop).
The system is 64 bit, with 8 gigs of RAM.

I tried installing the ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers repository and drivers, but
it didn't help.
I tried installing XFCE desktop and running the game from there, so there is no
Compiz interference, but it didn't help.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1169610] Re: ld can't find liblpsolve55.so; compilation error

This could be solved by installing a file in /etc/ld.so.conf.d, for example
lpsolve.conf, with the content
/usr/lib/lp_solve. Surely the package ought to do this.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1334411] Re: integer constraints in lp format do not seem to be respected

2015-11-28 Thread Martin Pokorny
This is actually described in the lp_solve documentation under the
description of the LP file format, where it states:

is an optional constraint name followed by a colon plus
a linear combination of variables and constants or (just one)
constraint name followed by a colon (a range) or (just one) variable
name without a colon (a bound), followed by a relational operator,
followed again by a linear combination of variables and constants,
ending with a semicolon. The relational operator can be any of the
  following: "<" "<=" "=" ">" ">=". There is no semantic difference
between "<" and "<=" nor between ">" and ">=" (even for integer
  variables!).

Title:
integer constraints in lp format do not seem to be respected

Status in lp-solve package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Inequality constraints and integer variables give clearly incorrect
results, which are not explicitly mentioned in the documentation.

For instance, trying to solve the following program in lp format:

  min: x;

  x > 0;

  int x;

  Results in:

  Value of objective function: 0

  Actual values of the variables:
  x 0

  Which is clearly incorrect.
The solution, which involves using some artificial boundaries such as "x >
0.0001" instead of "x > 0", is NOT intuitive and nowhere mentioned in the
documentation. This is extremely frustrating for novice users.

If there are limitations which prevent lp_solve from correctly parsing
the given input program without having to add some residual value to
"0", then at least it should be mentioned in the documentation.

Bug description:
For hi-dpi display of resolution 3840x2160, the scale factor is 2 and
uses gnome-screenshot to generate screenshot image. I think its size
of the screenshot of the whole desktop should be 3840x2160. But it
will get the image size of 1920x1080.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1520887] [NEW] Workaround Ubuntu 15.10. Network manager applet cannot stabely activate mobile broadband. ZTE MF820D.

2015-11-28 Thread Mattias Carlsson
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I use Ubuntu 15.10.
If I Start Ubuntu from power-off, then I can enter the PIN-code for the
SIM-card, and I also get prompted for my password (to make changes to the
mobile broadband device). The 4G-USB-modem gets green light for establishing an
4G (or 3G) connection, but it is impossible to connect to the 4G-internet from
the drop down menu of network manager at this stage; I get an error message. (I
have set up this 4G-internet-connention with help from the network-manager
wizard, using defaults, except turning off roaming and setting allow all users
to connect.)
However, if I choose to reboot without power-off, the green light on the
USB-modem stays on during the reboot (keeps 4G-connected I presume), then it is
possible to connect to internet from the drop down menu, most of the time. One
time I also had to deactivate-activate mobile broadband from the drop down menu
for internet connection to be established.

It is also not possible to edit the connections of the mobile broadband
in the network manager applet (gets an error message). Editing the wifi-
connection works just fine.

Regards
