[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1210607] Re: Scientific Notation not given proper order of operations

2016-08-27 Thread siuyin
The problem is 1*10^2 is treated at two separate numbers or tokens.
In scientific notation 1e02 is treated at one token.

Thus 1e02/1e02 = 1

but 1*10^2/1*10^2 = 1*10^4

Hope this clarifies.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617675] [NEW] Evolution will not connect to Gmail

2016-08-27 Thread Thomas Sisson
Public bug reported:

You're going to say this is not a bug. You may call it a feature request
or any of many other not-a-bug issues. However, Evolution is locked into
Gnome and many of the features and abilities of Gnome. I can use
Thunderbird with no problem, but I can only use Evolution calendar in
Gnome. (Is Gnome trying to be Microsoft?)

Anyway, we all know the issue. Evolution is buggy at best. Evolution
will not connect to Gmail or Google Apps. It won't let me access my
Google Calendar if I cannot access my email. This could be separated as
well, but it's not at this time. Google uses OAuth, and you have to live
under a rock to know it. I have gone through all the steps to allow an
insecure application to access Gmail, but Evolution spontaneously
decides I'm offline because it does not receive the proper response from
Google Mail servers.

Please fix it, or at least untie Evolution from Gnome.

By the way, fixing it in a later version is not a fix. If you are using
an unfixed version and the fixed version is not available for the
version of Ubuntu one is using, it's not fixed.

Getting off my soapbox.

Thanks

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617624] Re: Xorg freeze

2016-08-27 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 665978] Re: Slow Printing

2016-08-27 Thread roland burley
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 668800 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/668800

Hi,

1.) Brother MFC-J5910DW printer/scanner (Linux supported by Brother)
2.) Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit

Had the slow print problem in 14.04 LTS 64-bit, now upgraded and it's
got worse. Now running 30+ mins waiting time for first print of a one
page .pdf.

I am leaving overnight but I am not hopeful.

Given all the other similar problems listed on the net, this looks like
a generic, widespread issue.

  Slow Printing

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

  Binary package hint: cups

  https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+question/130990

have Ubuntu 10.10 all my updates are installed as of this post. I am
connected to a wireless router and my printer is hardwired to the
router using Cat 6 UTP wire. My printer is a brother HL-2170W series
printer which is a laser printer. My computer can print to the
printer, however it take a really long time to process the job. I have
messed other things up with Ubuntu in the past so it is very possible
that I have messed something up again. My biggest issues with print
speed seem to be with .pdf files and printing directly from web pages,
however a 2-3 page open office word document can take ten minutes or
  more to print.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1001550] Re: LibreOffice Calc causes high CPU usage in Xorg when displaying "marching ants"

2016-08-27 Thread Grizzly
It's there (again?) in LibreOffice 5.2.0.4 (from ppa as well as document
foundation build).

I am still on 14.04 because the update to 16.04 utterly failed, but
running xenial's kernel and NVIDIA proprietary driver nvidia-352.

see here:
- https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1308700

The Title should not even be marching ants - it's generally not usable,
possibly in the config NVIDIA proprietary driver and gnome, cinnamon or
unity.

Title:
LibreOffice Calc causes high CPU usage in Xorg when displaying
  "marching ants"

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  To reproduce (on my system):

  1. Run LibreOffice calc (I had imported a CSV with 3 columns and about 300
rows)
  2. Select any cell
  3. Press Ctrl+C to copy
  4. "marching ants" selection appears

At this point, Xorg is now using 100% CPU on one of my processors.
Clearing the selection (by typing in another cell) clears the
"marching ants" selection, at which time CPU usage returns to normal.

This survives a restart of the application, or a reboot. Same issue
  will occur.

  Running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit on a Lenovo ThinkPad T61, 4GB RAM,
NVIDIA Quadro 140M running the proprietary nvidia driver. All drivers,
software, BIOS, etc. are at latest versions.

for about 1 or 2 seconds the sheet become greyed before the 'sort' dialog box

2016-08-27 Thread Peter Amaral
Please reopen this defect and mark In Progress or other appropriate
status. This bug still affects me on Ubuntu 16.04.1, all latest updates
applied. The fix released does not work.

I also lose connectivity intermittently after restarting NetworkManager.
Please let us know what information we can provide that will help
resolve this defect, it is extremely frustrating and significantly
breaks the user's experience in Ubuntu.

NM needs to re-read the DEVTYPE after the device name changed, an example is
that WiFi network list disappears from network manager applet

  [Testcase]
  1. Boot the system. It should include a wireless device.
  2. In a terminal, run 'nmcli dev'.
  3. In the correct case, the line for the wireless device should read "wifi"
under the TYPE column. In a failure case, it will read "ethernet".

After upgrading to the new version, the repeating the above steps
  should give expected behavior.

  [Regression Potential]
Potential of causing regression is relatively small for a one line change to
re-read a value to be known.

  ---

  Problems:-

  1. The network manager applet does not show the list of WiFI APs it can find.
  2. The network manager applet does not the name of the AP to which it is
connected
  3. The icon of the applet shows two vertical arrows in opposite direction -
the wired connection symbol and NOT the wifi connected icon.

  Temporary Workaround:-
Log out and again log back in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2016-08-27 Thread Joakim Koed
I just tested with the new 1.2.2 network-manager from proposed. Same result.
Even tried creating a new user, same result.

Peter S:
Can you try the following:
- Reboot the machine and login.
- Then suspend, either by closing the lid or pressing the suspend in the menu.
(running suspend in terminal does not seem to be affected.)

The reason I want you to do this, is because of you restart network-
manager before suspending, it does not seem to make the ethernet-icon
appear.

Relevant: Is ubuntu using upstart to suspend, when pressing suspend and closing
the lid, instead of systemd-suspend? This could be the reason.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2016-08-27 Thread Peter S
A complete re-installation of the entire operating system seems to have
done the trick for me (call it a workaround if you want)! I used the
exact same source (i.e. Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 64 bit from a USB stick) and
connecteded my wifi during installation. I also restored my home folder
(including configuration files). Voilà, no longer any arrows in the
applet tray or other connection issues! The network also returns
immediately after suspend. I have only used this configuration for two
days, so I can't leave any guarantees. I will return, though, if any
errors reoccur.

  [Impact]
There is a rate of crash when doing suspend and resume test when using WWAN
with PIN set on SIM.

  [Test Case]
With WWAN enabled, and have PIN set on SIM, doing stress test of suspend &
resume, some crash may be observed in network-manager.

Also the e.u.c should no longer receive the same crash reports after
  installing the update.

  [Regression Potential]
The fix is checking a pointer before loop traverse which should be fair safe.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1615575] Re: Emoji support

2016-08-27 Thread marmuta
There are some emoji in the Small and Phone layouts.
Small: press "12?", then "☺" on the SHIFT key.
Phone: press "12!@" then "1/3" twice
It's a limited selection in both cases, though.

The other layouts don't have any, although there's an older branch were they do:
https://code.launchpad.net/~onboard/onboard/layouts-experiments
IIRC, the problems back then were a) all those new keys dragging down
performance, and b) disagreements on if/how to place the emoji button on the
main layer.

I believe we would be better off with a scrolling popup list. That way
we could offer all the emoji+descriptions without having to add a myriad
of keys to each layout. I'll discuss this with Francesco when he's back.
He's worked on the emoji support before.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617583] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.04 system freeze xorg libglx.so

2016-08-27 Thread sko
Public bug reported:

System freezes after random time, sometimes after hours, sometimes not. When
freeze, need to switch off power.
No freezes any more after removing /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.

I dind't find anything in system logs.
System was upgraded from 14.04 LTS to 16.04 TLS. With 14.04 no freezes. Other
linux running well (double boot).
Tried a few things before finding cause, e. g. disabling swap, changed from KDE
to LXDE, I also tried kernels 4.6.0 and 4.6.5.

System info:
Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (prio installed as Kubuntu 14.04)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1572260] Re: gvfs-smb-browse hogs CPU after only opening nautilus

2016-08-27 Thread AnonymouseP
I'm a little new at this so not sure if this was the right way, but i
added xenial-proposed and selected the 3 samba updates.

libwbclient0:amd64 (2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.2, 2:4.3.9+dfsg-
0ubuntu0.16.04.3), samba-libs:amd64 (2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.2,
2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.3), libsmbclient:amd64 (2:4.3.9+dfsg-
0ubuntu0.16.04.2, 2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.3)

This is a on a fresh install of 16.04 with all current updates. Problem
is resolved for me and no errors or other odd behavior. I don't use
samba shares though. Someone in another thread seems to think it is an
ISP problem.

Running nautilus now no longer causes 100% on one core, and my computer
is running a lot cooler in general. It's a passive cooled system so
quite noticeable!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1616533] Re: "Forecast not available" error in GNOME Weather app

2016-08-27 Thread Vlad Orlov
For libmateweather, issue is fixed in 1.14.1, but I think I'll apply the
patch from https://bugzilla.gnome.org/770321 (by Frank Dana) as well. It
enables https and switches to the recommended method of data retrieval
(as described in
http://www.aviationweather.gov/dataserver/bestpractices).

Ubuntu yakkety currently has the evolution 3.20 stack. I'd like to use
3.22 for yakkety though because it switches to webkit2 (see bug
1588150 ). The webkit2 switch is too big to easily backport. (The very
  large commit is at
  https://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/commit/?id=332789 but there are
  other fix-up commits).

evolution is in universe now so its current dependency on webkit1 is allowed

  evolution-data-server 3.20 introduced a new optional dependency on webkit1

Two libraries get bumped versions, libcamel-1.2-57 > libcamel-1.2-59
  and libedataserver-1.2-21 > libedataserver-1.2.22.

I tested all the below packages that need to be rebuilt. syncevolution
was FTBFS because of GCC6 but I identified the fix (LP: #1613405) for
it. The only package that still fails to build is evolution-rss which
will need to be ported to WebKit2.

How about removing evolution-rss from Ubuntu for now and we can add it
back in later once it's been ported? evolution-rss is under-maintained
  (it's configure.ac still mentions bonobo)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1615973] Re: Remote filesystems hang shutdown because network-manager stops too early

2016-08-27 Thread Alexander Chepurko
We're talking about a core Linux service here, NFS, and I've seen bug
reports of the same exact issue going back years and it's still not
fixed in 16.04. It's passed between tons of different maintainers; the
systemd people, the dbus people, the NM people, no one has committed to
getting this to work consistently. Unreal.

Remote filesystems hang shutdown because network-manager stops too

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
This is related to the bug "remote file systems hang on shutdown,
  D-BUS stops too early" here
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dbus/+bug/1438612. This
bug's status is a "won't fix" because I believe it has to do with the
  network-manager.service file in /lib/systemd/system/.

The problem is with something like the following in /etc/fstab:

  172.100.1.2:/mnt/share /mnt/nfsnfs
  noauto,_netdev,noatime,nofail,x-systemd.automount,x-systemd.device-
  timeout=10,timeo=14,x-systemd.idle-timeout=1min,rsize=8192,wsize=8192
  0 0

This is in the latest systemd package on Xubuntu 16.04. The system
hangs on shutdown indefinitely and I get the following output from
journalctl in a debug shell on shutdown:

2016-08-27 Thread Nazar Mokrynskyi

I can assign them on gnome-control-center, but can't trigger real actions

I'm only using Compiz (no unity, no gnome-shell). Is there any workaround for
this issue?

  xserver-xorg-core-lts-quantal (2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6.3~precise1) to
2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6.5~precise1

I suspected that the bug might be in xkb-data and/or gnome-settings-daemon.
Downgrading the xkb-data package the previous version (2.5-1ubuntu1.4) didn't
work.
Downgrading the gnome-settings-daemon package to the previous version
(3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.4) worked!
Afterwords I upgraded xkb-data to the latest version (2.5-1ubuntu1.5) and
left gnome-settings-daemon package to the previous version
(3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.4). And this works!!!

In conclusion there is some regression introduced into gnome-settings-
  daemon 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.5.

point? ;)

Ubuntu 13.10 EOL was July 2014.

2016-08-27 Thread Kristian Erik Hermansen
Exactly. Say I am the NSA and you are connected to Tor. I know your
EMAIL user agent like Thunderbird is leaking data in your mail header,
like Time Zone data. I know you are connected to Tor and that I want to
associate your IP to your email. I fiddle your Time Zone response data
to something esoteric, check all the emails that came in over all Tor
connections, and associate you with that connection. Yes.

There are even more things you can do as well, like forcing an ETAG or
Last-Modified header in order to track the client as it switched from
one network to another, eg laptop moved from one insecure network to
another.

Further, there are surely unknown parsing vulnerabilities in the
response data that you will only find out later. HTTPS , especially with
HSTS and HPKP makes abusing such issues much harder.

Let's Encrypt Everything with HTTPS. Unencrypted HTTP is dead.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617535] Re: geoip.ubuntu.com does not utilize HTTPS

2016-08-27 Thread Seth Arnold
Can you elaborate on what an adversary might do with this connection?

The name itself will be leaked via DNS requests regardless of TLS use.
The name itself may be leaked via SNI headers in a hypothetical HTTPS
connection.

I'm not yet familiar with the data actually transferred once connected,
but my wildest speculation suggests that it's going to consist of e.g. a
User-agent header from the client and the server's best guess of
geographical area for the connecting IP address. It's hard to see what
an adversary of even immense power could do with any information from
this service.

It's also hard to see what an adversary would do if modifying the data
in-flight -- force an inconvenient time display in the menu bar perhaps?

Thanks

2016-08-27 Thread Hansen
I've got (L450) this annoying bug to, (just finder what it was and getting it
pinned down is such a relief).
On the Chromium release calendar* it says 16 or 20 july, but i'm on ver 51 yet.
When will we get Chromium ver. 52?

Status in webkit package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I switched to chromium-browser from Google Chrome when, 1-2 months
ago, Chrome began to misbehave on all pages. It spontaneously jumped
to the top of the page when I continue scrolling downwards (using a
  touchpad).

As of a July 1 update to
  chromium-browser:amd64 (50.0.2661.102-0ubuntu0.16.04.1.1237,
51.0.2704.79-0ubuntu0.16.04.1.1242)

chromium-browser now has the same bug! Chris Down, in comments below,
says the bug is affecting most webkit-based apps.

He and I are both on higher-end Lenovo thinkpads (T450s, T460s), (and
I believe this also affects T410s -- to confirm)).

To reproduce this, I scroll half-way down a page (using a touchpad?)
and then click on something (e.g. blank space, which has no effect, or
ctrl-click on a link to open it in a new tab) with a mouse button.
Next, as soon as I touch the touchpad to continue scrolling, the page
  jumps to the top.

Makes browsing near impossible. Very frustrating to have this bug
arrive at this browser after I already left Chrome (whose latest
version on Ubuntu also still has this bug) to avoid it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574278] Re: AbiWord text cursor starts to flicker after adding some text

2016-08-27 Thread Julien Lavergne
According to upstream bug, it's a gtk 3.18 bug which Abiword triggered.
An update to 3.20 fix the issue, which is the case on yakkety. To fix
the bug on 16.04, we have to find the correct gtk fix (which may not be
that easy).

Can this be backported to 16.04? It fixes excessive memory leak in

2016-08-27 Thread Khurshid Alam
This has been fixed for 3.20 in yakkety. Can anyone confirm. If so, It
would be a SRU bug for backporting 3.20 to 16.04 would be nice.

Bug description:
As filed under bug #1342123 (under Canonical System Image, i.e. for mobile
installs) by several users, including desktop installs,
evolution-calendar-factory (previsouly in 14.04) then
evolution-calendar-factory-subprocess (in 16.04) run using several hundreds of
megabytes of memory (~ 300 Mio in my case).
This might have to do with having lots of linked calendars (Google Agenda or
other). Another user on my system has much fewer Google Agendas than me and her
memory usage of evolution-calendar-factory-subprocess is less, but still close
to 100 Mio.
There have been random crashes of the process, mostly directly upon login,
always caused by addressing memory out of range.
There used to be a workaround by invoking the process a second time, which
caused it to exit more or less gracefully. This is not the case anymore in
16.04.
Unfortunately, searching Google leads to the bug #1342123 which concerns
"Canonical System Image", and several users have replied even though it does
not only concern mobile installs, which is not immediately self-evident when
you are not aware what "Canonical System Image" stands for…

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617517] Re: Diagnosing Graphic Problems

2016-08-27 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html.

We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description
of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617507] Re: je ne sais rien

2016-08-27 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html.

We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description
of the problem using English if possible.

Thanks!
