[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1210607] Re: Scientific Notation not given proper order of operations
The problem is 1*10^2 is treated at two separate numbers or tokens. In scientific notation 1e02 is treated at one token. Thus 1e02/1e02 = 1 but 1*10^2/1*10^2 = 1*10^4 Hope this clarifies. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-calculator in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1210607 Title: Scientific Notation not given proper order of operations Status in GNOME Calculator: Confirmed Status in gnome-calculator package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: gnome-calculator 3.8.1 (3.8.1-0ubuntu1) on Ubuntu 13.04 x86_64: In Advanced mode, enter: 8×10¹²÷6×10⁹ (keystrokes: [8] [×10^y] [1] [2] [/] [6] [×10^y] [9]) Result: 1.3×10²¹ Correct answer: 1333.333 (so gnome-calculator is off by 18 orders of magnitude. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617675] [NEW] Evolution will not connect to Gmail
Public bug reported: You're going to say this is not a bug. You may call it a feature request or any of many other not-a-bug issues. However, Evolution is locked into Gnome and many of the features and abilities of Gnome. I can use Thunderbird with no problem, but I can only use Evolution calendar in Gnome. (Is Gnome trying to be Microsoft?) Anyway, we all know the issue. Evolution is buggy at best. Evolution will not connect to Gmail or Google Apps. It won't let me access my Google Calendar if I cannot access my email. This could be separated as well, but it's not at this time. Google uses OAuth, and you have to live under a rock to know it. I have gone through all the steps to allow an insecure application to access Gmail, but Evolution spontaneously decides I'm offline because it does not receive the proper response from Google Mail servers. Please fix it, or at least untie Evolution from Gnome. By the way, fixing it in a later version is not a fix. If you are using an unfixed version and the fixed version is not available for the version of Ubuntu one is using, it's not fixed. Getting off my soapbox. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617624] Re: Xorg freeze
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find. ** Information type changed from Private Security to Public -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1617624 Title: Xorg freeze Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: ubuntu last version 16.04 lts locked several times. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 665978] Re: Slow Printing
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 668800 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/668800 Hi, 1.) Brother MFC-J5910DW printer/scanner (Linux supported by Brother) 2.) Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit Had the slow print problem in 14.04 LTS 64-bit, now upgraded and it's got worse. Now running 30+ mins waiting time for first print of a one page .pdf. I am leaving overnight but I am not hopeful. Given all the other similar problems listed on the net, this looks like a generic, widespread issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to cups in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/665978 Title: Slow Printing Status in cups package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Binary package hint: cups https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+question/130990 have Ubuntu 10.10 all my updates are installed as of this post. I am connected to a wireless router and my printer is hardwired to the router using Cat 6 UTP wire. My printer is a brother HL-2170W series printer which is a laser printer. My computer can print to the printer, however it take a really long time to process the job. I have messed other things up with Ubuntu in the past so it is very possible that I have messed something up again. My biggest issues with print speed seem to be with .pdf files and printing directly from web pages, however a 2-3 page open office word document can take ten minutes or more to print. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi
I just tested with the new 1.2.2 network-manager from proposed. Same result. Even tried creating a new user, same result. Peter S: Can you try the following: - Reboot the machine and login. - Then suspend, either by closing the lid or pressing the suspend in the menu. (running suspend in terminal does not seem to be affected.) The reason I want you to do this, is because of you restart network- manager before suspending, it does not seem to make the ethernet-icon appear. Relevant: Is ubuntu using upstart to suspend, when pressing suspend and closing the lid, instead of systemd-suspend? A complete re-installation of the entire operating system seems to have done the trick for me (call it a workaround if you want)! I used the exact same source (i.e. Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 64 bit from a USB stick) and connecteded my wifi during installation. I also restored my home folder (including configuration files). Voilà, no longer any arrows in the applet tray or other connection issues! The network also returns immediately after suspend. There are some emoji in the Small and Phone layouts. Small: press "12?", then "☺" on the SHIFT key. Phone: press "12!@" then "1/3" twice It's a limited selection in both cases, though. The other layouts don't have any, although there's an older branch were they do: https://code.launchpad.net/~onboard/onboard/layouts-experiments IIRC, the problems back then were a) all those new keys dragging down performance, and b) disagreements on if/how to place the emoji button on the main layer. I believe we would be better off with a scrolling popup list. That way we could offer all the emoji+descriptions without having to add a myriad of keys to each layout. I'll discuss this with Francesco when he's back. This is fixed for me with the update as reported in bug #1572260 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1409032 Title: gvfsd-smb: very high CPU utilisation Status in samba: Unknown Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in samba package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in gvfs package in Fedora: Unknown Bug description: Example: I use Virtualbox and mount a .vdi on an SMB server. Using gvfsd-smb (browsing within Gnome to find the share), gvfsd-smb uses up to 50% CPU which slows down the entire system when accessing the network share. Mounting using sudo ($ sudo mount -t smbfs -o guest, nounix, noperm //server/share /media/share) so that cifs is used uses around 8% CPU. The difference is dramatic! If I didn't have sudo access my machine would grind to a halt when trying to use the remote share. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1572260] Re: gvfs-smb-browse hogs CPU after only opening nautilus
I'm a little new at this so not sure if this was the right way, but i added xenial-proposed and selected the 3 samba updates. libwbclient0:amd64 (2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.2, 2:4.3.9+dfsg- 0ubuntu0.16.04.3), samba-libs:amd64 (2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.2, 2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.3), libsmbclient:amd64 (2:4.3.9+dfsg- 0ubuntu0.16.04.2, 2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.3) This is a on a fresh install of 16.04 with all current updates. Problem is resolved for me and no errors or other odd behavior. I don't use samba shares though. Someone in another thread seems to think it is an ISP problem. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617535] Re: geoip.ubuntu.com does not utilize HTTPS
Exactly. Say I am the NSA and you are connected to Tor. I know your EMAIL user agent like Thunderbird is leaking data in your mail header, like Time Zone data. I know you are connected to Tor and that I want to associate your IP to your email. I fiddle your Time Zone response data to something esoteric, check all the emails that came in over all Tor connections, and associate you with that connection. Yes. There are even more things you can do as well, like forcing an ETAG or Last-Modified header in order to track the client as it switched from one network to another, eg laptop moved from one insecure network to another. Further, there are surely unknown parsing vulnerabilities in the response data that you will only find out later. HTTPS , especially with HSTS and HPKP makes abusing such issues much harder. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617535] Re: geoip.ubuntu.com does not utilize HTTPS
Can you elaborate on what an adversary might do with this connection? The name itself will be leaked via DNS requests regardless of TLS use. The name itself may be leaked via SNI headers in a hypothetical HTTPS connection. I'm not yet familiar with the data actually transferred once connected, but my wildest speculation suggests that it's going to consist of e.g. a User-agent header from the client and the server's best guess of geographical area for the connecting IP address. It's hard to see what an adversary of even immense power could do with any information from this service. It's also hard to see what an adversary would do if modifying the data in-flight -- force an inconvenient time display in the menu bar perhaps? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1598519] Re: regression: page scrolling jumps to top of page spontaneously
I've got (L450) this annoying bug to, (just finder what it was and getting it pinned down is such a relief). On the Chromium release calendar* it says 16 or 20 july, but i'm on ver 51 yet. When will we get Chromium ver. 52? https://www.chromium.org/developers/calendar -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to webkit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1598519 Title: regression: page scrolling jumps to top of page spontaneously Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in webkit package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I switched to chromium-browser from Google Chrome when, 1-2 months ago, Chrome began to misbehave on all pages. It spontaneously jumped to the top of the page when I continue scrolling downwards (using a touchpad). As of a July 1 update to chromium-browser:amd64 (50.0.2661.102-0ubuntu0.16.04.1.1237, 51.0.2704.79-0ubuntu0.16.04.1.1242) chromium-browser now has the same bug! Chris Down, in comments below, says the bug is affecting most webkit-based apps. He and I are both on higher-end Lenovo thinkpads (T450s, T460s), (and I believe this also affects T410s -- to confirm)). To reproduce this, I scroll half-way down a page (using a touchpad?) and then click on something (e.g. blank space, which has no effect, or ctrl-click on a link to open it in a new tab) with a mouse button. Next, as soon as I touch the touchpad to continue scrolling, the page jumps to the top. Makes browsing near impossible. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574278] Re: AbiWord text cursor starts to flicker after adding some text
According to upstream bug, it's a gtk 3.18 bug which Abiword triggered. An update to 3.20 fix the issue, which is the case on yakkety. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1589605] Re: evolution-calendar-factory uses lots of memory
This has been fixed for 3.20 in yakkety. Can anyone confirm. If so, It would be a SRU bug for backporting 3.20 to 16.04 would be nice. ** Tags added: xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1589605 Title: evolution-calendar-factory uses lots of memory Status in evolution package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in evolution-data-server package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: As filed under bug #1342123 (under Canonical System Image, i.e. for mobile installs) by several users, including desktop installs, evolution-calendar-factory (previsouly in 14.04) then evolution-calendar-factory-subprocess (in 16.04) run using several hundreds of megabytes of memory (~ 300 Mio in my case). This might have to do with having lots of linked calendars (Google Agenda or other). Another user on my system has much fewer Google Agendas than me and her memory usage of evolution-calendar-factory-subprocess is less, but still close to 100 Mio. There have been random crashes of the process, mostly directly upon login, always caused by addressing memory out of range. There used to be a workaround by invoking the process a second time, which caused it to exit more or less gracefully. This is not the case anymore in 16.04. Unfortunately, searching Google leads to the bug #1342123 which concerns "Canonical System Image", and several users have replied even though it does not only concern mobile installs, which is not immediately self-evident when you are not aware what "Canonical System Image" stands for… To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1589605/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617517] Re: Diagnosing Graphic Problems
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617507] Re: je ne sais rien
We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem using English if possible. Thanks! ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1617507 Title: je ne sais rien Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Merci ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+13ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-34.53-generic 4.4.15 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-34-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity_support_test.0: ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true Date: Sat Aug 27 04:03:12 2016 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: xenial DistroVariant: ubuntu GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2e12] (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [103c:3035] Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [103c:3035] InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-08-26 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160719) MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HP Compaq dc7900 Convertible Minitower ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.4.0-34-generic root=UUID=3d13a30f-9f43-414f-9cc8-a627d0a04a2d ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 07/12/2011 dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.bios.version: 786G1 v01.26 dmi.board.asset.tag: CAC911087W dmi.board.name: 3032h dmi.board.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.chassis.asset.tag: CAC911087W dmi.chassis.type: 6 dmi.chassis.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnHewlett-Packard:bvr786G1v01.26:bd07/12/2011:svnHewlett-Packard:pnHPCompaqdc7900ConvertibleMinitower:pvr:rvnHewlett-Packard:rn3032h:rvr:cvnHewlett-Packard:ct6:cvr: dmi.product.name: HP Compaq dc7900 Convertible Minitower dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.12.2+16.04.20160801.3-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.67-1ubuntu0.16.04.2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 11.2.0-1ubuntu2.1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 11.2.0-1ubuntu2.1 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.18.3-1ubuntu2.3 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.10.1-1ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.7.0-1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1.1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.12-1build2 xserver.bootTime: Sat Aug 27 03:59:44 2016 xserver.configfile: default xserver.errors: xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.outputs: xserver.version: 2:1.18.3-1ubuntu2.3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1617507/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
