[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1652585] [NEW] Fonts are borken after suspend/resume somtimes

2016-12-26 Thread Kai Blin
Public bug reported:

Occasionally, when coming out of a suspend and getting past the light
locker screen, font rendering broken. Application windows are missing
most but not all letters, and text for icons on the desktop is blurry.
Already open terminal windows won't have any text, but sometimes opening
a new terminal window does have working text for the terminal, even
though the text in the menu bar is broken.

Programs like Thunderbird often still display text unless they are
forced to re-render the window, at which point the fonts also disappear.
Firefox still renders web pages but is missing the text in the menu
bars.

This seems similar to bug #1434351 to me, but I was asked by Christopher
Penalver to open a new bug, so here we go.

I'm currently running with an xorg.conf suggested as a workaround for
#1434351, the bug itself manifested with the default Xorg settings (no
xorg.conf file). But as the bug only occurs occasionally, it's too early
to say if the workaround actually works.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1308105] Re: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled

2016-12-26 Thread Stefan Fleischmann
Note that there is a Ubuntu package of 4.12.1 available now
http://packages.ubuntu.com/zesty/xfce4-settings which can be installed
at least without dependency issues on Ubuntu 16.04.

The upstream commit that fixes the issue is here
https://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-settings/commit/?id=2233f20a7ec6d7cb7dcc5752d62d98e37d9c21ad.

As mentioned in the upstream bug report: "[...] one issue in the patch;
when enabling the crtc it _unconditionally_ sets the output crtc
(preferred) mode, rotation etc. properties". Anyway it was decided to
merge the patch and address that issue in a new bug #. So maybe the best
way is to do the same here, i.e. mark this as fixed in zesty and apply
the patch in xenial and yakkety. And create a new bug for the lost
screen resolution and other settings.

Bug description:
I had an HTPC with Mythbuntu 12.04 installed. Upon upgrading a new
behavior that if the TV is power cycled it no longer detects a link
  with the HTPC.

When this happens I can find in the xorg log that there is an
  accompanying log item:

  [ 39829.509] (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "NULL"

  After debugging with NVIDIA at
  https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/729955/linux/tv-stops-being-
  detected/ we've deteremined it's a X client that reacts to the RANDR
events causing the mode to be set to NULL.

Working through the list in an Xfce environment, the culprit is
xfsettingsd. If xfsettingsd is running, it causes the TV to come up
in a NULL mode. If it's killed, it remains in the mode it was
  previously running in.

Until this is fixed, this behavior can be worked around with a simple shell
script:
  ==
  #!/bin/sh
#Fix TV state when HDMI link is lost.
  #By Mario Limonciello

  OUTPUT="HDMI-0"
  BAD_MODE="1280x720"
  GOOD_MODE="1920x1080"

for MODE in $BAD_MODE $GOOD_MODE; do
   DISPLAY=:0 xrandr --output $OUTPUT --mode $MODE
   sleep 2
  done

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1645698] Re: [SRU] Upgrade network-manager to latest point release

** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu Xenial)

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in network-manager source package in Xenial:
  Triaged
Status in network-manager source package in Yakkety:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

This SRU would try to have the latest well-tested upstream point
release (1.2.4) of 1.2.x land in Xenial, which is the successor of the
current 1.2.2 version, fixing quite some bugs that's suitable to land
  in the stable branch.

  https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/tree/NEWS?h=nm-1-2

For xenial, we'll also backporting a patch from 1.2.6 that should fix
a no-networking-after-resuming-from-sleep issue. This patch was
applied to Debian testing and zesty in 1.4.2-3ubuntu1.

For yakkety, this is an update to 1.2.6. Once 1.2.6 has been in use
for a while without new problems, we'll look into doing a separate SRU
  for Xenial.

  [Test Case]

After installing the updated version, users should be able to avoid
some mem leaks in some cases and have generally improved DNS related
  experiences.

  [Regression Potential]

This version has been in yakkety for sometime, and there's no report
  of regressions until now.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1542733] Re: Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network, "Connect" grayed out

2016-12-26 Thread Micael Carvalho
Same problem in a fresh install from yesterday (12/25/2016), and I fully
updated the system by cable. This should be a high priority bug, and I
doubt it would take more than 5 minutes of an experienced programmer to
fix it, probably just a broken validation routine. It surprises me this
bug is open for 6 months without even an assignment...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1652585] Re: Fonts are borken after suspend/resume somtimes

2016-12-26 Thread Kai Blin
I can give that a try, but I'm not sure I can reproduce this issue in
Unity. Do the daily builds have the option of running XFCE? Also, it
could be a while until I can confirm this, I don't have an easy test
case.

Title:
Fonts are borken after suspend/resume somtimes

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Occasionally, when coming out of a suspend and getting past the light
locker screen, font rendering broken. Application windows are missing
most but not all letters, and text for icons on the desktop is blurry.
Already open terminal windows won't have any text, but sometimes
opening a new terminal window does have working text for the terminal,
even though the text in the menu bar is broken.

Programs like Thunderbird often still display text unless they are
forced to re-render the window, at which point the fonts also
disappear. Firefox still renders web pages but is missing the text in
  the menu bars.

The bug itself manifested with the default Xorg settings (no xorg.conf
  file).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1652646] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2016-12-26 Thread Fergal Daly
Public bug reported:

Playing video, e.g. in vlc or chrome causes the whole machine to hang
after 5-10m of video playing.

I also tried

vlc --avcodec-hw none

which I found in another similar bug but it still crashes.

It happens with DVDs and also more modern codecs.

Everything worked fine on 14.04.

I intended to install MEGA Sync Client, Google Chrome and Dropbox by
downloading the needed packages from their websites (respectively
  https://mega.nz/#sync and https://www.google.com/chrome/ and
https://www.dropbox.com/install?os=lnx ). I opened the packages one by
one with gnome-software and pressed Install - nothing, except for a
super-quick progress bar animation, happened. No matter how many times
I tried, same result. Also, an icon pops up on the panel saying
"Waiting to install", but nothing seems to happen.

This only seems to happen with third-party packages; installing a
  random deb from packages.ubuntu.com/xenial worked.

I even tried to reinstall the system to make this work, but same
  problem.

Gdebi, however, installs the packages as expected.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1035843] Re: Trash doesn't work on NFS mounted partitions

2016-12-26 Thread Julien
Hi,

I have a Seagate Blackarmor NAS that I used to access via NFS. I think I
have the same problem.

For a while the trash worked fine. But with upgrades I get now an error message
when I try to move a file to the trash :
"Impossible to find or create the directory trash directory for
/mountpoint/file"

The mountpoint is not in my home directory. I use NFS version 3 (the NAS
doesn't accept NFS v. 4). I can create files and dirs. The problem is
only with the trash.

It's strange because the trash worked previously with older Ubuntu
release (I'm now on Ubuntu Gnome 16.10, I don't remember since when the
trash doesn't work).

Regards, Julien.

  As reported elsewhere :

The /home/users directory on my host is an NFS mount connected to a
server which is not in my control. When deleting files in $HOME
(/home/users/foo) with Nautilus I get the following message:

Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately?

The file "..." cannot be moved to the trash.

Is there some way to enable trash for this mount point? I have write
access to the partition, but even after creating the expected
/home/users/.Trash-$(id -u) and setting the sticky bit, Nautilus still
  fails to use the trash.

When reading this question and the Trash Specification
   I found that
$HOME/.local/share/Trash is the standard location (unless
$XDG_DATA_HOME is set), and it looks like Nautilus is only half-aware
of this: It does indeed write a
  $HOME/.local/share/Trash/info/[filename]<.number>.trashinfo every time
I try to delete a file, but the files are all empty and I still keep
  getting the error message.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1652661] [NEW] Evolution won't connect to network unless forced

2016-12-26 Thread Tim Wescott
Public bug reported:

Suddenly, as of a couple of days ago, Evolution stopped connecting to
the network. After a bit of digging, I found that I can invoke it with
the GIO_USE_NETWORK_MONITOR environment variable set to "base", and then
it works just fine.

--> this works <--
$GIO_USE_NETWORK_MONITOR=base evolution &

This happened coincident to having my kid the budding IT guy set my
machine to a fixed IP address, but I have no idea whether that's
related.

In the absence of a fix, a better workaround than invoking the thing
from the command line would be appreciated.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1650967] Re: Cups 2.2.0 not sending files to network printer

2016-12-26 Thread Till Kamppeter
This is caused by Brother's drivers not following the CUPS standards. If
Brother had made a native CUPS driver and not an LPD driver with a CUPS
wrapper around it, the queues would stand the CUPS update.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1569970] Re: Nautilus does not start

2016-12-26 Thread V
Happens to me too (Ubuntu 16.10, updated from 16.04 whit worked fine. System is
up to date).
I can use nautilus on my local PC but cannot acces my network devices/shares.
nautils just 'hangs' (= keeps showing the spinning mouse pointer)

After closing nautilus is saw the nautilus process is still running

ps -aux |grep nautilus shows:
 9446 6.2 0.4 1193092 75000 ? Sl 02:22 0:06 /usr/bin/nautilus
--gapplication-service

now starting nautilus in the terminal shows:
(nautilus:9576): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_dbus_interface_skeleton_unexport:
assertion 'interface_->priv->connections != NULL' failed
(nautilus:9576): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_dbus_interface_skeleton_unexport:
assertion 'interface_->priv->connections != NULL' failed
(yep, twice)

killing nautilus and starting from the terminal gives:
(nautilus:9639): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: :1:0: Failed
to import: The resource at '/org/gnome/libgd/tagged-entry/default.css' does not
exist

I do not know if that is related.

2016-12-26 Thread Seth Arnold
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 49579 ***

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1647283] Re: WiFi being detected as ethernet when race condition on renaming for persistent name

2016-12-26 Thread Chih-Hsyuan Ho
@Aron, may we know if the patch suggested in comment#2 already in the
NM(1.2) to be used in Xenial? Thanks.

Bug description:

  Forwarded https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=775613

  Version: NetworkManager 1.4.2

This bug happens after power-on with probability about 1/50.
That means we need to reboot about 50 times to get into the buggy situation.
"nmcli d" shows the device type is ethernet:

  DEVICE TYPE STATECONNECTION
  wlp1s0 ethernet unavailable --
  lo loopback unmanaged--

The bug starts from a race condition. But it is not the root cause.
I've also attach 2 logs. One is in good situation. Another is in bad
situation.
This log is generated by applying a "log patch" to network-manager 1.4.2 so
we can see more stuff.

In the bad situation. The bug starts with race condition. But the race
condition is not the root cause. The race condition is:
   * During the renaming from "wlan0" to "wlp1s0". "wlan0" disappeared.
   * Inside the NM, it is still using "wlan0" in "_linktype_get_type()".
   * Since /sys/class/net/wlan0/uevent is disappeared. so the type matching
failed in _linktype_get_type().
   * Also wifi_utils_is_wifi() failed to because /sys/class/net/wlan0
disappeared.
   * And finally, devtype and kind are both NULL, so it returns
NM_LINK_TYPE_ETHERNET for wlan0.

Later, wlan0 is renamed to wlp1s0, and it seems to me that the Object inherit
the type so it is still type ethernet.
But from the log, I saw _linktype_get_type() is called several times later
and return the correct type (wifi). But just, "nmcli d" still shows type
ethernet.

I'm wondering if we are missing to update the type in the Object
created after renaming and re-detecting the type.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1643467] Re: Firefox 50 blocks Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04 LTS's version of libavcodec

2016-12-26 Thread John Rodriguez
I use Ubuntu 12.04. Still have the problem. I have disabled Flash and depend
on HTML5.
Can't watch video on mainstream news site. Youtube does work, however.

Please include fix on next update packet.

If I upgrade to 14.04, will problem be fixed?

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1652287] Re: dpkg-reconfigure hunspell-es doesn't ask you the default language

2016-12-26 Thread José Luis González
This is not possible to me. I need C.UTF-8 or en_US.UTF-8 locale, but
want Spanish dictionaries by default.

If you wonder why we have many scripts that depend on English (or C)
locale but they don't use dictionaries so it's not a problem if I set
them to Spanish (which is what I would wish I could). One option is
setting all locales each time I run one of those internal scripts, but I
don't want to risk forgetting, for the time being.

Usually, when doing dpkg-reconfigure dict-package, debconf asks you

  $ dpkg-reconfigure hunspell-es

I don't get asked the default hunspell language and have no clue about

I'm running xenial and hunspell-es is version 5.1.0-1ubuntu2.2.
