[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1712658] Re: Rhythmbox is only partially translated in Ubuntu 17.10

2017-08-26 Thread Devin Grant
I believe Rhythmbox itself is fully translated, but the plugin that's
installed on all default installations as of Ubuntu 17.10, Alternate
Toolbar, probably hasn't been fully translated yet; it's a fairly new
plugin, so that might be why the translation isn't completed.

Might I suggest disabling that plugin to find out if the application is,
in fact, fully translated in your native language?

affects not only documents where annotations were added with adobe

are created with the document, for example with pdflatex and the
  pdfmarginpar package.

  File to test:

http://tug.ctan.org/macros/latex/contrib/pdfmarginpar/doc/pdfmarginparexample.pdf

The annotations in this file are properly displayed in the Firefox

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 735496] 💰Make money using affiliate programs

2017-08-26 Thread Robert Cotterman
When I started my first blog online, I really had no intention of making any
money from it. I started writing my first blog simply because I thought it was
fun.
However, I started to learn about how much money can actually be made
online, which is when I started to get serious about learning how to make
that happen. The biggest windfall in my business is learning how to make money
 using affiliate programs.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1705157] Re: On fresh install or fresh boot greeter always show "ubuntu" though selected session may be ubuntu-wayland

2017-08-26 Thread Doug McMahon
A bit different than before.

1. On fresh install 1st. login, says "ubuntu" but session is xorg
2. If switching once back & forth then "ubuntu' correctly produces wayland
3. Whatever session is logged into then a log out/in shows & produces that
session, i.e. completely correct.
4. A reboot again always shows "ubuntu" but session will be whatever it was at
shutdown/restart

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1302416] Re: deja-dup monitor was taking 6GB of memory

2017-08-26 Thread Jure Sah
When I had the issue I did not have Google Chrome installed. I was
instead, creating disk images with ddrescue. Needless to say that
involved some active changes in files substantially larger than the
amount of system memory.

Unfortunately as the issue occurred spontaneously and completely
disabled my computer when it happened, I had resorted to uninstalling
deja-dup rather than attempting to resolve the issue.

Will try fix next week.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1302416] Re: deja-dup monitor was taking 6GB of memory

2017-08-26 Thread Michael Terry
Sigh, I've never been able to reproduce this. Despite several people
saying it's connected to Chrome Remote Desktop, we also have several
reports of it happening without that involved.

I'm currently testing a workaround (committed to trunk) that sets a
memory limit on the monitor process, as a quick and dirty hack to
alleviate the effects of this bug. If anyone wants to test on their
machine, you can edit /etc/xdg/autostart/deja-dup-monitor.desktop to
change its Exec line to:

Exec=bash -c "ulimit -v 100;
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/deja-dup/deja-dup-monitor"
X-GNOME-AutoRestart=true

(change the x86_64-linux-gnu part as needed)

I'd welcome reports of success or failure with this.

Let's say I launch Deja-Dup in home directory /home/ernestas. Then it creates
/home/ernestas/sftp:/ or /home/ernestas/ftp:/ directories at which it places
backups.
What dependencies is Deja-Dup missing and why isn't it displaying any errors
about that?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1713266] [NEW] Display scaling doesn't actually update display scale-factor

2017-08-26 Thread Karl
Public bug reported:

In the "Displays" GUI, there's a slider called "Scale for menu and title bars"
that seems to update the scale-factor parameter
(/com/ubuntu/user-interface/scale-factor). When I click and drag the slider
around, it updates the screen's scale factor (most of the time). However, when
I click the slider, then change the value with the left and right arrow keys,
the scale-factor parameter is unchanged. Clicking "Apply" doesn't help.
I expected the slider to behave the same whether it was moved by mouse drags or
keyboard movements.

Steps to replicate:
1. Open a terminal and run `dconf watch /com/ubuntu/user-interface/scale-factor`
2. Open the Displays GUI
3. Click the "Scale for menu and title bars" slider and move it around with the
arrow keys. Note that the scale-factor in the terminal did not update.
4. Click "Apply". Note that the window is not rescaled.

I've also had trouble with mouse drags not updating scale-factor, but
I'm having trouble replicating that issue.

As a side comment, it seems that the name "Scale for menu and title bars" is a
little misleading. It controls the whole screen scaling, not just menu and
title bars, yes?

Title:
Intel Broxton HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Pulseaudio detects output but
  produces no sound on NUC6CAYH

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Upon bootup, the HDMI output connected to a Samsung TV shows up as an
output. If this output is selected and a sound test run (either using
the GUI or using aplay /user/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav) no
sound is heard. Pavumeter does however show sound coming through.

I found that sound can be fixed by allowing the display to sleep,
waking it up, and then restarting pulseaudio (pulseaudio -k). After
that sound output through HDMI to the TV will work until rebooted.

The fix can be succesfully scripted as follows:

  xset dpms force off
  sleep 1
  pulseaudio -k

The machine is an Intel NUC6CAYH, connected to a not particularly new
Samsung 42" TV using an HDMI cable, running a fresh install of Ubuntu
  16.04.

In earlier attempts at fixing the issue I set pulseaudio to never let
the sound device sleep (commented out load-module module-suspend-on-
idle in /etc/pulse/default.pa), and also set the default sampling rate
  to 48000 (default-sample-rate = 48000 in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf). Not
sure if these settings contributed to the fix, but they are not
  sufficient on their own.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1709708] Re: Intel Broxton HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Pulseaudio detects output but produces no sound on NUC6CAYH

2017-08-26 Thread Olivier Doriath
I have the same exact issue!

I don't know if this will help, but as long as the HDMI audio isn't
working, my TV will display the Dolby symbol, followed by a capital D
when pressing the OK button (It is an LG 47LH7020). Once I get it to
work by restarting the TV, or switching input modes, the symbol is gone
and the audio works until a restart.

Title:
Intel Broxton HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Pulseaudio detects output but
  produces no sound on NUC6CAYH

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  New

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1692066] Re: [Request] Libreswan plugin for Network Manager

2017-08-26 Thread Gustavo Silva
As suggested by user.

According to bug report, this bug's importance should be "wishlist" as
this is about a feature request.

@elegos, could you specify the Ubuntu version you are using and which
package version you are trying to install?

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hello!

I have the need to use Libreswan instead of strongswan to connect to
an IPSec IKEv1 XAuth VPN in main mode without a group. Thing is
strongswan doesn't support this configuration, so I explicitally need
it. Nonetheless, libreswan is as developed as strongswan and it's
  widely used.

using config files in /etc (ipsec.conf and .secrets) it's possible to
correctly configure ipsec/libreswan, but needlessly to say, having the
possibility to manage it via a GUI is 100 times better (and easier for
  "normal" users).

In the current repositories (Zesty) I only found the libreswan's ipsec
binaries (package libreswan), but not the network manager plugin
  (sources are available on github).

I've tried to compile them, but I'm afraid they use a different path
pattern than Ubuntu, so without making changes it's not possible to
  succesfully install it from sources.

  Thanks

I take some of that back.
Just did a fresh install of todays image.
It's completely screwed up again, only difference is now you get ubuntu-xorg
when it says ubuntu

If nned be could systematically go thru for test cases but seems pretty
evident..

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1705157] Re: On fresh install or fresh boot greeter always show "ubuntu" though selected session may be ubuntu-wayland

2017-08-26 Thread Doug McMahon
Well, not exactly fixed...
>From an upgrade perspective it is fixed.
In general extended use it's fixed.

But from a fresh install -
The 1st. login will show "ubuntu" as selected session but in actuality it will
be a ubuntu-xorg session.
Again simply switching the login options fixes & unlike before issue won't
reappear.

Maybe this comes from installing from a live session which is ubuntu-xorg?
(- haven't tried a direct install from usb install media..

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1684336] Re: Elantech touchpad regression after upgrade: three four fingers not recognized

2017-08-26 Thread Justo
Guys, I recently updated my Ubuntu 16.04 (did not upgrade to 17.04), and
I lost touchegg functionality. I looked around and found this:

https://gist.github.com/urbie-mk2/ae80fedbeded12084b7227b0ef53aeec

I got functionality back by running the comments by bndr32. Basically I
am downgrading my synaptics driver. Hope that helps!

Bug description:
  # Context

Due to some problem I don't understand now, Shotwell crashes while updating
pictures metadata, resulting in empty or corrupted files.
[But that's not the point of this report. I may open a new ticket when I
understand the root cause.]

  # What happens
it's that Shotwell now refuses to start, and report following error:

This occured after attempting to log out of the MATE desktop (since I
wanted to switch back to XFCE) and then the MATE desktop's theme
changed to my system default of Greybird and then hanged without

2017-08-26 Thread Till Kamppeter
Antony, can you find out what the IP address of your printer is and run
the following commands with replaced by the actual IP address:

lpadmin -p LJM476IPP -E -v ipp://:631/ipp/print -m everywhere
ls -als /etc/cups/ppd/LJM476IPP.ppd
ipptool -tv ipp://:631/ipp/print get-printer-attributes.test >
printer-ipp-attrs.txt

Please post the screen output of the commands here.

Please attach /etc/cups/ppd/LJM476IPP.ppd and printer-ipp-attrs.txt

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1598359] [NEW] caja crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message()

2017-08-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I received two of these errors just when starting up my computer. See
image. Not shown is the "CurrentDesktop" field which says "MATE", just
confirming that the crash happened while in MATE.

This occured after attempting to log out of the MATE desktop (since I
wanted to switch back to XFCE) and then the MATE desktop's theme changed
to my system default of Greybird and then hanged without allowing me to
log out. I then tried to log into the Ctrl+Alt+F1 TTY session but that
froze on me too. So, I held the power button and booted up and got these
errors.

System info:

Status in gnome-orca package in Ubuntu:

I am experiencing the following in both Open Office and Libre Office
  writer:

Orca screen reader reads a portion of the complete text (when reading the
whole document) and then Open/Libre office crashes with no warning or dialogue.
As soon as trying to handle an object (such as an image) writer crashes
immediately with no warning or dialogue.

The attached logs show that something is going wrong in the Java
environment. I have tried both OpenJDK and Sun-Java6, both with the
same results and similar logs. I have attached both logs.

I have logged this as a bug with OpenJDK (Bug #752340), but feel that
the problem may lie in Orca due to both Open and Sun Java reacting the
  same way.

Open/Libre office behaves normally when Orca is not running.

Bug description:
Totem uses dramatically higher CPU than any other video player.

Example 1: software playback under Gnome Shell Wayland:

totem: 120% (but drops to 80% in Unity7)
  mplayer: 40%
  vlc: 40%
[all are using ffmpeg for decoding]

Example 2: hardware-accelerated playback under Gnome Shell Xorg:

  totem: 11%
  gst-play-1.0: 3%
[both are using gstreamer-vaapi for decoding]

Since the decoding libraries are theoretically the same it sounds like
totem's performance problems might be in its rendering path.

I have this problem on a Radeon HD 7970.

Affects me only when using ALT-PRNTSCRN to grab the currently active
window. Hitting just PRNTSCRN to crab the entire workspace (all 3
monitors) works fine and the colors are correct.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 694719] Re: Orca doesn't read in sudo nautilus

Thank you for filling this bug but it's not Orca related. It was because
GTK2 didn't load the accessibility modules for the root/administrator
user.

GTK3 loads accessibility automatically so I think we could close this
bug because Nautilus has been ported to GTK3.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1710987] Re: Since the update to 55.0.1 firefox hangs frequently with 100% cpu usage

2017-08-26 Thread Shadab Zafar
I have 55.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 but am still seeing hangs quite
similar to this.

I've been using Firefox for many years but this is the first time this
has happened.

The hangs are usually permanent (maybe because I just don't wait) and I
have to kill the process.

I use KDE Neon and am willing to provide any sort of logs that may be
required for this.

Just received the upgrade. Unfortunately, firefox is hardly usable
now. Rather frequently, CPU usage jumps up to 100% of a core, with the
FF UI completely frozen. In some occasione, the hang is temporary. In

I suggest reverting ubuntu to FF 54 until the FF 55 issues are

Bug description:
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (clean install). 64-bit. Final release.
  Gnome-software version: 3.20.1+git20160420.1.ca63436.ubuntu-xenial-0ubuntu2
    Version table:
   *** 3.20.1+git20160420.1.ca63436.ubuntu-xenial-0ubuntu2 500
  500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I intended to install MEGA Sync Client, Google Chrome and Dropbox by
downloading the needed packages from their websites (respectively
  https://mega.nz/#sync and https://www.google.com/chrome/ and
https://www.dropbox.com/install?os=lnx ). I opened the packages one by
one with gnome-software and pressed Install - nothing, except for a
super-quick progress bar animation, happened. No matter how many times
I tried, same result. Also, an icon pops up on the panel saying
"Waiting to install", but nothing seems to happen.

This only seems to happen with third-party packages; installing a
  random deb from packages.ubuntu.com/xenial worked.

I even tried to reinstall the system to make this work, but same
  problem.

Gdebi, however, installs the packages as expected.
