[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1735594] Re: ubuntu automatically logs out when hovering sidebar

2018-01-06 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Bug misfiled, would've been useful to know about it a month ago :/

If you are able to build the package from ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/updates then
that would be great. PPA builders are offline for days now because of
SPECTRE.

** Package changed: compiz (Ubuntu) => mesa (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1741447] Re: Unity / Compiz in a crash loop after login, after mesa updates of 2018-01-04

2018-01-06 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Could you test 17.10 live image? It comes with 17.2.2 and should work,
then upgrading to artful-proposed should break it again since it has
17.2.4.

Looks like Intel gen4 & 5 regressed, everything newer seems to work fine
which is why testing didn't catch this. There is a newer upstream
version available (17.2.8) but PPA builders are down so I don't have
that available for testing.

Bug description:
This is not a recent issue: googling around
"ERROR:value_store_frontend.cc(58)" show that error have been met
several years ago on multiple distro, not only ubuntu.

This append with a gnome-shell & wayland session when chromium have at
least 12 opened tabs, and scrolling url with many images (like with
  thumblr.com).

Journalctl is filed with errors like:
  "chromium-browser.desktop[2255]:
[2255:4906:1026/040419.151932:ERROR:value_store_frontend.cc(58)] Error while
writing gjieilkfnnjoihjjonajndjldjoagffm.browser_action to" which means that
file descriptors limit has been reached.
With such a case, gnome-shell is freezing until the hdd activity slowdown to
normal. Prior all the 4 Gb ram is used and the swap partition is also widely
used. This is not expected, ram & swap should be firstly needed by the active
tab, not for all the opened ones. Something have to be better programed there.

Is there a way to set file descriptor limit on the user side ?

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Summary: hitting 'shift' before typing your password can get "stuck" down and
cause you to not be able to log in.

I have a habit of using the shift key wake the display of my system
after i've been away from it for a while, and then typing my password.

I started having trouble logging in, as if my fingers weren't typing the
right password. It took me a while to figure out what was going on, but i
thought maybe that I'd inadvertantly hit 'caps-lock' and that was causing
the issue. So I hit it again, and then logged in successfully.

However, upon login I found that caps-lock was enabled.

  So to reproduce:
a.) let the screen lock or lock it manually.
b.) hit shift key (i hit left shift)
c.) type password correctly: watch fail to login
d.) note that you can hit caps-lock and then successfully login
e.) note that after login, caps lock is set, that you didn't make this all
up.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1737264] Re: ALSA output is silent but SDL works fine

This seems to be triggered by connecting an external monitor over
DisplayPort, then disconnecting. And rebooting does indeed clear the
problem.

There have been several suspend-resume cycles since then.

I expect that rebooting will clear this issue, however obviously that

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1644848] Re: in Writer, Page sidebar menus have unreadable text on dark background

2018-01-06 Thread Adam Dingle
I'm no longer seeing this in LibreOffice Witer 5.4.2.2 on Ubuntu 17.10.
In that version the popup menus have moved to a new sidebar tab called
Page, and this issue does not occur there.

So this is effectively fixed. I'm marking this bug report as Fix
Released.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1733557] Re: Login screen showing Authentication Failed Switch to greeter...

2018-01-06 Thread Eugene Romanenko
Same on 16.04.3 after updating Unity to latest proposed packages.
Also on 17.10 with installed unity-session.

For me, this issue appears after switching to another user.

Steps to reproduce (must be more than one local users on system, eg. "bob",
"alice"):
1. Login under bob.
2. Via upper-right menu switch to "alice".
3. On greeter screen setect "alice", login under alice.
4. Logout, return to greeter screen.
5. Select bob (already logged in). Enter password.
6. Lock screen. Issue appeared.
Issue appeared on every screen lock.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1222183] Re: package emacsen-common 2.0.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2018-01-06 Thread era
If you understand what's wrong could you briefly summarize? If not, a
quick and dirty translation of the most relevant error messages would
help more people try to analyze what happened. Your latest comment
sounds vaguely like this is a duplicate of an existing issue; have you
checked for duplicate reports?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1727390] Re: New bugfix release 17.2.4

2018-01-06 Thread Khurshid Alam
mesa 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.1 in xenial lots of issues with unity and
compiz. See this bugs:

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

A new upstream bugfix release is available. Release note diff compared
  to 17.2.2:

  "Mesa 17.2.3 is now available.

  In this release we have:

The Vulkan drivers ANV and RADV have multiple small fixes.

The EGL code has improved handling of the new wl_dmabuf codepath.

SWR no longer crashes when checking environment variables.

Other gallium drivers have also seen updates - freedreno, nouveau and
radeonsi. The gallivm module, used by llvmpipe et al. has gained little
  endian PPC64 fixes.

The VA and VDPAU state-trackers have seems improvements handling
  interlaced videos.

We're using python3 compatible constructs which gives us SCons 3.0
  support."

  "Mesa 17.2.4 is now available.

  In this release we have:

In Mesa Core we have included a change to prevent KOTOR from breaking
when in combination with the ATI fragment shader extension.
Additionally, NIR has also received a correction.

Mesa's state tracker has gotten a patch to avoid leaks in certain
situations like when resizing a window.

Intel drivers have received several fixes. The compiler has gotten a
couple, while anv also received one. i965 got a patch to avoid VA-
API, Beignet and other contexts in the system to break when in
combination with previous versions of Mesa 17.2.x.

AMD's compiler has received a couple of fixes while radv has also
received another couple, including one to avoid a hang due to an
  overflow on huge textures.

Broadcom's vc4 has corrected a problem when compiling with Android's
  clang.

clover has also seen fixed a problem compiling after a specific clang
  revision.

Vulkan's WSI has gotten plugged a memory leak for X11."

  [Test case]

Test typical use cases on the most common hw/driver combinations:
  intel/i965
  nvidia/nouveau
  radeon/radeonsi

  [Regression potential]

These releases are tested against compliance, bugfix releases in
particular have minimal risk of regressing anything major at least.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1547599] Re: legacy nvidia drivers fail to work with latest kernel

2018-01-06 Thread jiggles100
I have similar problems with nvidia-384.90, the only working solution
for me is to use the 4.4 kernel instead.

linux-image-4.10 enters a loop of doom at startup
linux-image-4.13 runs for some random amount of time usually fails within 15
minutes but then hangs the system completely
