I was running android marshmallow on a coolpad quattro 2. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1771615] Re: LibreOffice Apps do not appear in the panel taskbar
Well, today was interesting...! I brought up LO-W from the context menu of a document that I wished to edit. The day before, I had to do a hard shutdown (nouveau video-crashed) with several LO-W windows open, so now LO_W put up the window where it shows documents that need to be recovered. When it finished recovery, all three recovered document windows were in the panel taskbar, but I STILL needed alt-tab to be able to bring up the window of the document that I originally planned to edit today, as it was NOT in the taskbar! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771615 Title: LibreOffice Apps do not appear in the panel taskbar Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I recently installed Lubuntu Next 18.04, which includes LibreOffice 6. At some point, I noticed that LibreOffice Writer (unlike all my other programs) does not appear in the panel's Taskbar (where all apps loaded in that workspace/desktop should be). All other apps with which I have experience, are listed in the taskbar, and can be minimized and un-minimized by clicking on the portion of the bar devoted to that app. There is an option in the panel settings that would allow me to only have apps appear in the taskbar when minimized, but I never use that. LibreOffice apps (I noticed this with Writer, but since tested it with the other LO apps that were installed with my OS, and the same thing happens with all) have nothing in the taskbar to show that they have opened, and when minimized, disappear entirely. I know that they have not quit when they disappear, in two ways: 1. If I use the OS's menu to bring up LO-W again (thus with an blank document), and then go to that window's menu->Window, it shows all open LO-W documents, which can then be brought back by clicking on them. 2. Lubuntu Next's window manager OpenBox has a keyboard-shortcut Alt-Tab, which allows one to select from available app windows - and at least one LO document is listed, from which the others can then be accessed by #1. I don't know what causes an app to have windows in the taskbar, but that system is failing with LO windows. (I guess that I had assumed that the OS took care of managing windows in the taskbar - having them appear there when opened, and removing them when closed), but apparently I am wrong, or LO windows would not be able to hide, as they seem to do...) I am assuming that this is a new bug, as this did not happen before. I cannot think that it is a design decision, not to let the user minimize documents (or simultaneously open multiple documents) without apparently losing them altogether (at least without jumping through hoops (hoops of which they might well not be aware...)). scott@scott-ASUS-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ uname -a Linux scott-ASUS-M2N68-AM-PLUS 4.15.0-20-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 24 06:16:15 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux scott@scott-ASUS-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ lsb_release -dsc Ubuntu 18.04 LTS bionic scott@scott-ASUS-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ echo $DESKTOP_SESSION QLubuntu scott@scott-ASUS-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ apt-cache policy libreoffice-core libreoffice-core: Installed: 1:6.0.3-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 1:6.0.3-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1:6.0.3-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: libreoffice-core 1:6.0.3-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-20.21-generic 4.15.17 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-20-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: LXQt Date: Wed May 16 11:22:53 2018 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-04-29 (16 days ago) InstallationMedia: Lubuntu-Next 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Alpha amd64 (20180421) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: libreoffice UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1771615/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1765911] Re: Major performance regression from Ubuntu 17.10 with i915
Jacob Zimmermann, in order to allow additional upstream mainline kernel developers to examine the issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest mainline kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please keep in mind the following: 1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder). 2) The release names are irrelevant. 3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was released upstream. 4) Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may: 1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there. 2) Backup, or clone the primary install. If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the mainline kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is not reproducible in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is the release candidate number if it exists. If the issue is reproducible with the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically requested to do so. It is most helpful that after testing of the latest mainline kernel is complete, you mark this report Status Confirmed. Lastly, to keep this issue relevant to upstream, please continue to test the latest mainline kernel as it becomes available. Thank you for your help. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-01.25 needs-bisect regression-release ** No longer affects: xorg (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1765911 Title: Major performance regression from Ubuntu 17.10 with i915 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Desktop performance on my laptop (Intel HD 520, driver: i915) used to be generally good on previous Ubuntu releases but on 18.04, there is a VERY noticeable regression. Hi srinivas,, Did a complete re-install of Ubuntu 18.04 64-bit. Followed your instructions. It appears that Ubuntu 18.04 does not have a system tray. Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. We noticed that some of the sentences in this bug report are not in English. If they were translated to English they would be more understandable to triagers. Could you please translate them? Also, Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) reached end-of-life on April 10, 2012. See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling us which new version it is in and change the bug status to Confirmed. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/639 Title: no puedo abrir guide-cab Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: quiero instalar una nueva impresora, abro el driver hasta guide-cab y no lo abre porque no es un archivo p ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: nautilus 1:2.32.0-0ubuntu1.4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-32.67-generic 2.6.35.14 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-32-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Thu Jan 31 15:14:08 2013 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/nautilus InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release i386 (20101007) ProcEnviron: LANG=es_UY.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: nautilus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/639/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1687246] Re: GNOME Shell should support fractional (non-integer) Hi-DPI scaling
To get the same effect in Ubuntu 18.04 as 16.04 I used the tweak tool to set a text scaling of 1.3. Additionally I had to set a scaling in Firefox's about:config in the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx property to the same 1.3 value. It's annoying that this has been removed from the normal UI as the underlying feature is still there and works fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1687246 Title: GNOME Shell should support fractional (non-integer) Hi-DPI scaling Status in Mutter: In Progress Status in Ubuntu GNOME: Triaged Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: https://trello.com/c/r12LY9iA (for 17.04 was https://trello.com/c/TvwNvXOo) --- I'm using fully updated Ubuntu GNOME 17.04. In Ubuntu Gnome, you only allow for integer scaling of things for high DPI monitors. While in theory this sounds good, on a 27 inch 4k monitor like mine, restricting it to integers is a problem. 1x is annoyingly small, and 2x is WAY too big. You need a 1.5x, and presumably to just allow most noninteger values to future proof the distribution given 8k monitors and all sorts of new and weird things coming out, like windows 10 has. Photos of the two annoying sizes are available here (it won't let me attach two files): http://i.imgur.com/vWrvZxq.jpg http://i.imgur.com/11p19k7.jpg I apologize for my photography skills in advance., you'll have to look at the ruler for scale to see the problem. Please contact me if you need any more information etc. Workaround == You can enable experimental fractional scaling in Ubuntu 17.10 or 18.04 LTS by running the following command in a terminal and then restarting your computer. Note that this is an experimental feature and is not fully supported by either Ubuntu or GNOME. gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor- framebuffer']" After restarting your computer, you should find additional scale options in Settings > Devices > Displays. If you change your mind and want to get back to supported status, run: gsettings reset org.gnome.mutter experimental-features To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mutter/+bug/1687246/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1752813] Re: Pointer speed is too slow even in the fastest setting
This is still an issue with 18.04. It's a little better because it now defaults to higher speeds in the driver. But even maxing out is too slow. I'm using: $ cat /etc/udev/rules.d/10-trackpoint.rules ACTION=="add|change", SUBSYSTEM=="input", ATTR{name}=="TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint", ATTR{device/sensitivity}="250", ATTR{device/speed}="250", And even then it's too slow. This together with this new bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input- libinput/+bug/1772189 Makes the trackpoint experience in 18.04 on this laptop really bad still. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1752813 Title: Pointer speed is too slow even in the fastest setting Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I use the trackpoint on my Lenovo T460s almost exclusively. Even in the fastest setting on a 2560x1440 screen it is much too slow. I've had to add the following udev rule to get it to be usable: ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="input", ATTR{name}=="TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint", ATTR{device/sensitivity}="190", ATTR{device/speed}="220", ATTR{device/inertia}="6", ATTR{device/press_to_select}="0" And even with this and the speed in the control center set to maximum it is still a bit slow. Trying to push the sensitivity/speed settings higher will break the trackpoint and even with these settings it seems that sometimes on resume from sleep the trackpoint fails. After cycling suspend/resume again it comes back. There should be a way to set much higher speed settings for the mouse. Current settings make trackpoints very hard to use which even carries risk of hand/arm injuries. What Actually Happened: I accidentally CTRL-DoubleClicked which seems to have set off a Nautilus hang. Here is a sequence of events, including some probably trivial details, but I figure everything helps: 1. On an EXT4 partition separate from the rest of Ubuntu, where I store large multimedia files, I was about to move multiple large files and directories (around 1gb each) to a nested folder. 2. I had selected one folder (I don't think it was a stand-alone file), then holding the CTRL key, I went to select another folder. 3. Instead of single-clicking, my finger decided it had Tourettes and I double-clicked it. 4. The hang occurred immediately, although I wasn't aware of it for a few seconds. The first file was fully highlighted, and the second file had a ligher colored selection highlight. 5. The application was unresponsive, but I was able to move the window. After a moment, the window grayed out. 6. I became impatient and invoked the xkill command. 7. Upon selecting the home folder from the Unity launcher panel, the icon flashed for a moment or two and then nothing happened. 8. When I invoked nautilus via command like, I was given this output after few moments: me@mypc:~$ nautilus Could not register the application: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) 9. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1063282] Re: Nautilus goes berserk when broswing folders with many files
1. 'a generic performance issue' which is 'not actionable per se' https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/issues/296#note_80630 2, 3. I don't have a huge folder (are you able to attach yours, if you still have it?) but I can't reproduce these issues in Files 3.26.3-0ubuntu4 on Ubuntu 18.04. Marking as Invalid. If you're able to reproduce 2 or 3 on 18.04 or 18.10 then please file separate issues for them (linking to them from this bug). ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063282 Title: Nautilus goes berserk when broswing folders with many files Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: I have a folder that contains about 40,000 small images. When I open this folder in Nautilus, it starts exhibiting the following absurd behaviors: 1. It takes ages to show the list of files (even in list mode). Ages means several minutes, while getting the complete list in a terminal with "ls -la" takes about a second. Showing image previews is the only thing that it is reasonable to expect that takes a long time, but they are not needed to show the file list, and actually they are loaded later in a threaded manner, so there's no reason why showing the file list should take that long. 40,000 files is not much. 2. The file name column becomes huge (exceeding by far the windows width, so a horizontal scroll bar appears), and there's no reason for it, since none of the files has a very long name. You have to manually shrink the name column to see the other columns. Every single time you open this folder. 3. When the file list is already visible and Nautilus has become responsive again (you can easily scroll down/up, select files etc) while it is still loading image previews, if you *navigate away* from the folder (e.g. by clicking on the name of the containing folder on the top of the window), it takes ages to go out, as it took to get in. And much worse, while Nautilus is "thinking", it becomes completely unresposive and the window greys out. That you have to wait a little when you navigate _into_ a folder that has many files makes sense (though it's not even closely as efficient as it could), but that it takes long to go _out_ is absurd. There's nothing to process, just forget what you were doing and show me the containing folder (which does not have many files at all). Any memory deallocation or whatever, should be done in the background. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1685754] Re: gnome-terminal unduly forces umask=0022
In 16.04, I usually added `umask=0027` after `session optional pam_umask.so` in file `/etc/pam.d/common-session`. Not sure it was the appropriate place but worked for me. Then, MOST graphical applications systematically run with the correct umask. In particular, when I press Alt-F2, run 'xterm sh' and type 'umask', it systematically displays 0007. But when I press Alt-F2, run 'gnome-terminal -e sh' and type 'umask', it systematically displays 0022. That is BAD, and is a security issue. Workaround : Inside the newly created '/etc/profile.d/umask.sh', and in each '~/.bashrc', add following content : UMASK="$(grep -o "^$USER:.*,umask=0[0-7]*" /etc/passwd)" if [ "$UMASK" ]; then umask "${UMASK#$USER:*,umask=}" fi In fact, 'gnome-terminal' MUST NOT force umask=022, but keep umask unchanged. Thank you in advance for a quick correction. I don't know why, but apport attached wrong (outdate) Xorg logs to my report. Probably it's a gdm feature that it puts logs elsewhere instead of the usual /var/log/Xorg.0.log. The actual logs made by my X11 server are located here: /var/lib/gdm3/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log /home/megabrutal/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.1.log I attach the correct logfiles. ** Attachment added: "Xorg log from /var/lib/gdm3/.local/share/xorg/" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1770913/+attachment/5141625/+files/Xorg.0.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1770913 Title: Software rendering is forced after 18.04 upgrade Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: After upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04, my desktop uses software rendering, no matter what I do.
