Bug description:
I'm using a Fujitsu M3091DCd scanner with SANE. From the command line
it works more or less well with Ubuntu.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1706097] Re: gvfsd-mtp crashed with SIGSEGV

2018-05-19 Thread michael deer
I was running android marshmallow on a coolpad quattro 2. Ubuntu 17.10
wasn't allowing me to transfer media/ files to specific folders but i was
allowed to copy/ move stuff as long as just the device was the destination.
Im running 18.04 now and so far so good. I only have 4GB of ram but not
nearly as many freezes as 17.10. My new phone (Blu S1) runs android nougat
and i haven't had one connection error message yet, old or new phone.

  [Impact]

If users use the latest Dell USB Dock, e.g. TB16, they will found the
analog audio (lineout jack) can't work under ubuntu linux

  [Test Case]

After applying the fix, users can play sound via analog speaker or
lineout freely. Without the fix, users can't play sound from lineout
  jack.

  [Regression Potential]

No any possibility to introduce regression since this fix just adding
a new dock's support, it does not change any existing code.

  [Other Info]

  No more info here

  Steps:
  1. Cold boot system with BME/IE connected
  2. Plug in a speaker to Line-out jack
  3. Set Analog Stereo Output from Sound settings

Expected results: Line-out port can work

Actual results: Line-out port not work

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1771615] Re: LibreOffice Apps do not appear in the panel taskbar

2018-05-19 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Well, today was interesting...!

I brought up LO-W from the context menu of a document that I wished to
edit.

The day before, I had to do a hard shutdown (nouveau video-crashed) with
several LO-W windows open, so now LO_W put up the window where it shows
documents that need to be recovered.

When it finished recovery, all three recovered document windows were in
the panel taskbar, but I STILL needed alt-tab to be able to bring up the
window of the document that I originally planned to edit today, as it
was NOT in the taskbar!

Title:
LibreOffice Apps do not appear in the panel taskbar

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I recently installed Lubuntu Next 18.04, which includes LibreOffice 6.

At some point, I noticed that LibreOffice Writer (unlike all my other
programs) does not appear in the panel's Taskbar (where all apps
loaded in that workspace/desktop should be).

All other apps with which I have experience, are listed in the taskbar, and
can be minimized and un-minimized by clicking on the portion of the bar devoted
to that app.
There is an option in the panel settings that would allow me to only have
apps appear in the taskbar when minimized, but I never use that.

LibreOffice apps (I noticed this with Writer, but since tested it with
the other LO apps that were installed with my OS, and the same thing
happens with all) have nothing in the taskbar to show that they have
opened, and when minimized, disappear entirely.

I know that they have not quit when they disappear, in two ways:
  1. If I use the OS's menu to bring up LO-W again (thus with an blank
document), and then go to that window's menu->Window, it shows all open LO-W
documents, which can then be brought back by clicking on them.
  2. Lubuntu Next's window manager OpenBox has a keyboard-shortcut Alt-Tab,
which allows one to select from available app windows - and at least one LO
document is listed, from which the others can then be accessed by #1.

I don't know what causes an app to have windows in the taskbar, but that
system is failing with LO windows.
(I guess that I had assumed that the OS took care of managing windows in the
taskbar - having them appear there when opened, and removing them when closed),
but apparently I am wrong, or LO windows would not be able to hide, as they
seem to do...)

I am assuming that this is a new bug, as this did not happen before.
I cannot think that it is a design decision, not to let the user minimize
documents (or simultaneously open multiple documents) without apparently losing
them altogether (at least without jumping through hoops (hoops of which they
might well not be aware...)).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1716409] Re: Unable to install flatpakref on Ubuntu artful

2018-05-19 Thread Ads20000
Strange, installing Flatpaks seems to work fine in 0.11.3-3 now (with
gnome-software 3.28.1-0ubuntu4.18.04.1 (the new version is a patch for
snaps from bionic-proposed, nothing to do with Flatpak I don't think)).
Glad that an Ubuntu dev is on it with keeping Flatpak up to date! :D

I saw a news article with a link to install a flatpak.

I clicked the link expecting to be able to install the flatpak, but
the experience appears broken. I'm on an up to date Artful install

  What I did was:-

  Click on http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/09/download-pithos-pandora-app-1-4
  Click the flathub link:-
https://flathub.org/repo/appstream/io.github.Pithos.flatpakref
  This downloaded the flatpakref file.
I clicked the file in my browser, nothing happened

I then tried finding the file in nautilus and double clicked it.
GNOME Software launched and presented an error "Don't know how to handle
'file:///home/alan/Downloads/io.github.Pithos.flatpakref' (see screenshot).

If I search for pithos in GNOME Software I am able to find the older
version from the deb repo, but not the newer version from flathub.

Do we not support flatpak/flathub out of the box? Or is my system
  uniquely hosed?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1765911] Re: Major performance regression from Ubuntu 17.10 with i915

2018-05-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jacob Zimmermann, in order to allow additional upstream mainline kernel
developers to examine the issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please
test the latest mainline kernel available from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please keep in mind
the following:
1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the
daily folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the mainline kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is not reproducible in the mainline
kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a
black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report
description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the issue is reproducible with the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

It is most helpful that after testing of the latest mainline kernel is
complete, you mark this report Status Confirmed.

Lastly, to keep this issue relevant to upstream, please continue to test
the latest mainline kernel as it becomes available.

Thank you for your help.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1772192] Re: Missing setting to disable touchpad

2018-05-19 Thread Pedro Côrte-Real
Found the issue. I had installed a shell extension for touchpad
disabling in 16.04 when I couldn't find a setting. Without that
extension I get a bunch of touchpad options indeed. Sorry for the false
alarm, and thanks for looking into it.

`gedit /tmp/myleakycode.c` it opens in a new window.

Oddly, as I was writing this bug report it's now working I expect it
to, where opening files on the CLI adds to my existing session.

I'll follow up if I find some pattern as to what triggers this.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1761549] Re: Screen flickering, whenever went to lock, waking up creates problem.

2018-05-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Anupam Datta, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. Please answer all of the following questions:

1) Could you please provide the full computer model as noted on the
sticker of the computer itself (not from the Bug Description, or the
result of a terminal command)?

2) Is this something that started to happen after a package update? If
so, which and when precisely?

3) To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results?

Attached my LaserJet, Ubuntu ran some software to install the printer
(probably trying to run the HP software) and
/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups crashed with the assertion failure:
  free(): invalid pointer.

Rebooted, installed package hplip-gui, ran sudo hp-setup – it needed
to ask me (the user) some questions. That kept it happy and it ran
  successfully.

I ended up with two similarly named HP Printers. Printed to the right
one and it worked. Renamed the other one to avoid confusion whilst
  printing.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1769501] Re: /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups assertion failure when plugging in a HP LaserJet M1132 MFP printer/scanner

2018-05-19 Thread Ian Bruntlett
Hi srinivas,,

Did a complete re-install of Ubuntu 18.04 64-bit.

Followed your instructions.

It appears that Ubuntu 18.04 does not have a system tray. Whilst running
"hplip-3.18.4.run" I encountered these error messages:-

RE-STARTING HP_SYSTRAY
--

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.18.4)
System Tray Status Service ver. 2.0

This is free software, and you are welcome to distribute it
under certain conditions. See COPYING file for more details.

error: Unable to lock /home/ian/.hplip/hp-systray.lock. Is hp-systray
already running?
ian@newton:~/Desktop$ error: No system tray detected on this system.
Unable to start, exiting.

Printing works. Scanning fails with an error message - see attached
screenshot.

HTH,

Ian

Ubuntu 18.04, seahorse GUI application shows the 'import' button

"Cannot import because there are no compatible importers".

This problem doesn't occur on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Seahorse 3.18.0), as
I've just tested on my wife's laptop, but happens in my Laptop with
  Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Seahorse 3.20.0-5).

Because that problem, it's not possible to digitally sign documents

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1133051] Re: Can't name new directory in unity

2018-05-19 Thread Ads20000
Oh, admittedly I tested this in GNOME Shell not Unity, but since this is
apparently a bug in Files I wasn't sure that would matter?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1111639] Re: no puedo abrir guide-cab

2018-05-19 Thread Ads20000
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We noticed that some of the sentences in this bug report
are not in English. If they were translated to English they would be
more understandable to triagers. Could you please translate them?

Also, Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) reached end-of-life on April 10, 2012.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the
latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still
present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling
us which new version it is in and change the bug status to Confirmed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1133051] Re: Can't name new directory in unity

2018-05-19 Thread Ads20000
Assuming fixed, couldn't reproduce this bug on Files 3.26.3-0ubuntu4 on
Ubuntu 18.04 when switching between English (UK) and English (US).
Perhaps this only affects switching between certain layouts? If so then
please specify exactly which two layouts you have to switch between to
produce the issue (and state which Ubuntu version you tested this on -
please retest this in Ubuntu 18.04 or Cosmic if you haven't already).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1687246] Re: GNOME Shell should support fractional (non-integer) Hi-DPI scaling

2018-05-19 Thread Pedro Côrte-Real
To get the same effect in Ubuntu 18.04 as 16.04 I used the tweak tool to
set a text scaling of 1.3. Additionally I had to set a scaling in
Firefox's about:config in the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx property to the
same 1.3 value. It's annoying that this has been removed from the normal
UI as the underlying feature is still there and works fine.

  ---

I'm using fully updated Ubuntu GNOME 17.04.

In Ubuntu Gnome, you only allow for integer scaling of things for high
DPI monitors. While in theory this sounds good, on a 27 inch 4k
monitor like mine, restricting it to integers is a problem. 1x is
annoyingly small, and 2x is WAY too big. You need a 1.5x, and
presumably to just allow most noninteger values to future proof the
distribution given 8k monitors and all sorts of new and weird things
coming out, like windows 10 has.

Photos of the two annoying sizes are available here (it won't let me
  attach two files):

  http://i.imgur.com/vWrvZxq.jpg
  http://i.imgur.com/11p19k7.jpg

I apologize for my photography skills in advance., you'll have to look
at the ruler for scale to see the problem. Please contact me if you
  need any more information etc.

  Workaround
  ==
You can enable experimental fractional scaling in Ubuntu 17.10 or 18.04 LTS
by running the following command in a terminal and then restarting your
computer. Note that this is an experimental feature and is not fully supported
by either Ubuntu or GNOME.

  gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-
  framebuffer']"

After restarting your computer, you should find additional scale
options in Settings > Devices > Displays.

If you change your mind and want to get back to supported status, run:

  gsettings reset org.gnome.mutter experimental-features

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1752813] Re: Pointer speed is too slow even in the fastest setting

2018-05-19 Thread Pedro Côrte-Real
This is still an issue with 18.04. It's a little better because it now
defaults to higher speeds in the driver. But even maxing out is too
slow. I'm using:

$ cat /etc/udev/rules.d/10-trackpoint.rules
ACTION=="add|change",
SUBSYSTEM=="input",
ATTR{name}=="TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint",
ATTR{device/sensitivity}="250",
ATTR{device/speed}="250",

And even then it's too slow. This together with this new bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-
libinput/+bug/1772189

Makes the trackpoint experience in 18.04 on this laptop really bad
still.

I use the trackpoint on my Lenovo T460s almost exclusively. Even in
the fastest setting on a 2560x1440 screen it is much too slow. I've
had to add the following udev rule to get it to be usable:

  ACTION=="add",
  SUBSYSTEM=="input",
  ATTR{name}=="TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint",
  ATTR{device/sensitivity}="190",
  ATTR{device/speed}="220",
  ATTR{device/inertia}="6",
  ATTR{device/press_to_select}="0"

And even with this and the speed in the control center set to maximum
it is still a bit slow. Trying to push the sensitivity/speed settings
higher will break the trackpoint and even with these settings it seems
that sometimes on resume from sleep the trackpoint fails. After
cycling suspend/resume again it comes back.

There should be a way to set much higher speed settings for the mouse.
Current settings make trackpoints very hard to use which even carries
  risk of hand/arm injuries.

  fills more than the window.

It is very disconcerting that whenever I try to move or copy files,
the highlighed directory in the left pane shifts arbitrarily to a
random directory even though the copy or move is performed correctly.

What I Expected To Happen: Select multiple files using CTRL-Click
method so that I can move them to another directory.

What Actually Happened: I accidentally CTRL-DoubleClicked which seems
to have set off a Nautilus hang.

Here is a sequence of events, including some probably trivial details,
  but I figure everything helps:

  1. On an EXT4 partition separate from the rest of Ubuntu, where I
store large multimedia files, I was about to move multiple large files
and directories (around 1gb each) to a nested folder.

  2. I had selected one folder (I don't think it was a stand-alone
file), then holding the CTRL key, I went to select another folder.

  3. Instead of single-clicking, my finger decided it had Tourettes and
  I double-clicked it.

  4. The hang occurred immediately, although I wasn't aware of it for a
few seconds. The first file was fully highlighted, and the second
file had a ligher colored selection highlight.

  5. The application was unresponsive, but I was able to move the
window. After a moment, the window grayed out.

  6. I became impatient and invoked the xkill command.

  7. Upon selecting the home folder from the Unity launcher panel, the
icon flashed for a moment or two and then nothing happened.

  8. When I invoked nautilus via command like, I was given this output
  after few moments:

  me@mypc:~$ nautilus
  Could not register the application:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply
(timeout by message bus)

  9. By the time I typed about half of this error report, I was able to
run Nautilus from the panel again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1063282] Re: Nautilus goes berserk when broswing folders with many files

2018-05-19 Thread Ads20000
1. 'a generic performance issue' which is 'not actionable per se'

2, 3. I don't have a huge folder (are you able to attach yours, if you

Title:
Nautilus goes berserk when broswing folders with many files

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I have a folder that contains about 40,000 small images. When I open
this folder in Nautilus, it starts exhibiting the following absurd
  behaviors:

  1. It takes ages to show the list of files (even in list mode). Ages
means several minutes, while getting the complete list in a terminal
with "ls -la" takes about a second. Showing image previews is the only
thing that it is reasonable to expect that takes a long time, but they
are not needed to show the file list, and actually they are loaded
later in a threaded manner, so there's no reason why showing the file
list should take that long. 40,000 files is not much.

  2. The file name column becomes huge (exceeding by far the windows
width, so a horizontal scroll bar appears), and there's no reason for
it, since none of the files has a very long name. You have to manually
shrink the name column to see the other columns. Every single time you
  open this folder.

  3. When the file list is already visible and Nautilus has become
responsive again (you can easily scroll down/up, select files etc)
while it is still loading image previews, if you *navigate away* from
the folder (e.g. by clicking on the name of the containing folder on
the top of the window), it takes ages to go out, as it took to get in.
And much worse, while Nautilus is "thinking", it becomes completely
unresposive and the window greys out. That you have to wait a little
when you navigate _into_ a folder that has many files makes sense
(though it's not even closely as efficient as it could), but that it
takes long to go _out_ is absurd. There's nothing to process, just
forget what you were doing and show me the containing folder (which
does not have many files at all). Any memory deallocation or whatever,
should be done in the background.

Bug description:

I am unsure if this has been reported, and where to report it exactly.
I have tried to search but unsuccessfully.

  What i do:
  Open nautilus
Click on the directory with many thumbnailable files, which have had
thumbnails generated already (such as you photo album)
Wait for a very long time.

  What happens:
Nautilus waits until it matches a file with the thumbnail to show it at all.

  What i expect to happen:
Nautilus should show all files and then slowly load up their thumbnails as it
matches files to thumbnails.

This is very annoying if you know exactly what you would like to open,
but it sometimes can take a few minutes to load my entire photo album
(thousands of photos) directory (i am then forced to delete
'.thumbnails' which forces reconstruction of all thumbnails).

Directory with many thumbnailable files takes too long to load

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus

  Ubuntu 11.04

According to Synaptic Package Manager, it is running hplip
3.17.10+repack0-5

I managed to persuade the printer to work but not very well. Thank you for
the link. I have downloaded the .run file and will reinstall Ubuntu 18.04
and run hplip-3.18.4.run as instructed.

Will keep in touch.

Attached my LaserJet, Ubuntu ran some software to install the printer
(probably trying to run the HP software) and
/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups crashed with the assertion failure:
  free(): invalid pointer.

Rebooted, installed package hplip-gui, ran sudo hp-setup – it needed
to ask me (the user) some questions. That kept it happy and it ran
  successfully.

I ended up with two similarly named HP Printers. Printed to the right
one and it worked. Renamed the other one to avoid confusion whilst
  printing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1772183] [NEW] Microsoft Mice on dual boot can scroll multiple lines at a time.

2018-05-19 Thread Mike L
Public bug reported:

Running Ubuntu 18.04. Noticed this bug in 16.04 and earlier for who
knows how long. See https://askubuntu.com/questions/47100/mouse-wheel-

transceiver appears to be a workaround for the time being. Xorg should
automatically scroll normally, not multiple lines at time after
rebooting. Sometimes rebooting doesn't fix the issue. Askubuntu mentions

This is extremely annoying and still an issue with 18.04. I've tried
fiddling with CSS settings bug can't get anything to apply to gedit for
some reason.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1573728] Re: Files opened with gedit on command line no longer open within the existing gedit session

2018-05-19 Thread Pedro Côrte-Real
It doesn't seem to be about maximization but about window location. If
any part of the gedit window is against the screen edge or over it a new
window opens. If the whole gedit window is fully within the screen and
not against any borders it opens in the existing window.

2018-05-19 Thread Pedro Côrte-Real
Just moved to Ubuntu 18.04 and can confirm the issue and it does seem to
be something related to the window manager. I can confirm this only
happens with a maximized window and in 16.04 it would happen with gnome
but not Unity.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1685754] Re: gnome-terminal unduly forces umask=0022

2018-05-19 Thread Daniel
In 16.04, I usually added `umask=0027` after `session optional
pam_umask.so` in file `/etc/pam.d/common-session`. Not sure it was the
appropriate place but worked for me.

No longer working in 18.04.

Bug description:
In order to set the default umask of my users to 027 or 007, I
followed the instructions provided in 'man pam_umask' :

In the 'gecos' field of '/etc/passwd', I have inserted 'umask=027' or
  'umask=007' (for myself).

Then, MOST graphical applications systematically run with the correct
  umask.

In particular, when I press Alt-F2, run 'xterm sh' and type 'umask',
  it systematically displays 0007.

But when I press Alt-F2, run 'gnome-terminal -e sh' and type 'umask',
  it systematically displays 0022.

That is BAD, and is a security issue.

Workaround : Inside the newly created '/etc/profile.d/umask.sh', and in each
'~/.bashrc', add following content :
  UMASK="$(grep  -o  "^$USER:.*,umask=0[0-7]*"  /etc/passwd)"
  if [ "$UMASK" ]; then
umask "${UMASK#$USER:*,umask=}"
  fi

In fact, 'gnome-terminal' MUST NOT force umask=022, but keep umask unchanged.

Thank you in advance for a quick correction.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1770913] Re: Software rendering is forced after 18.04 upgrade

2018-05-19 Thread MegaBrutal
I don't know why, but apport attached wrong (outdate) Xorg logs to my
report. Probably it's a gdm feature that it puts logs elsewhere instead
of the usual /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

The actual logs made by my X11 server are located here:
/var/lib/gdm3/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log
/home/megabrutal/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.1.log

I attach the correct logfiles.

Bug description:
  SRU Document:

  [Impact]

If users use the latest Dell USB Dock, e.g. TB16, they will found the
analog audio (lineout jack) can't work under ubuntu linux

  [Test Case]

After applying the fix, users can play sound via analog speaker or
lineout freely. Without the fix, users can't play sound from lineout
  jack.

  [Regression Potential]

No any possibility to introduce regression since this fix just adding
a new dock's support, it does not change any existing code.

  [Other Info]

  No more info here

  Steps:
  1. Cold boot system with BME/IE connected
  2. Plug in a speaker to Line-out jack
  3. Set Analog Stereo Output from Sound settings

Expected results: Line-out port can work

Actual results: Line-out port not work

It looks like this fix actually created a regression bug wich might be
related to the workaround implemented before ... Not sure but curent
situation is that it does no longer work correctly ...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1770913] Re: Software rendering is forced after 18.04 upgrade

2018-05-19 Thread MegaBrutal
I've made a live bootable pendrive to test the issue. I've found that
it's not present when I boot a live OS, so something must have gone
wrong during the upgrade. I've attached glxinfo outputs.

thinkpad-glxinfo-livecd.txt: How it looks like when I boot from USB drive. It's
normal.

OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 18.0.0-rc5
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20

thinkpad-glxinfo-normalboot.txt: How it looks like when I boot my usual
system on the same hardware. Software rendering is enforced.

OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: llvmpipe (LLVM 6.0, 128 bits)
OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 18.0.0-rc5
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-05-19 Thread Aurélien PIERRE
I have the same problem of power drains even when prime-select is on
intel. I know for sure that the nvidia GPU is running because the
external HDMI port is working and shouldn't since it's wired to the GPU.

 sudo sh -c 'echo auto > /sys/bus/pci/devices/\:01\:00.0/power/control'
 sudo sh -c "echo "1" > remove"

gives no result on my system (Nvidia Quadro M2000M/Thinkpad P51).
