2019-02-02 Thread Dylan Aïssi
I'm wondering if it could be related to
https://sourceforge.net/p/libmtp/bugs/1797/.
Newer Linux kernels require an updated udev rule which is only available with
libmtp 1.1.16 (not in cosmic).

directories. Randomly, copy/paste will stop and error reported.

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Plug phone into computer.
  2) Copy a large number of directories with nested file structures to phone
from computer hard drive, via Nautilus: [highlight files on computer, then
ctrl-c; go to directory on phone, then ctrl-v].

  Expected outcome: No copy errors.
Actual Outcome: Usually, the expected outcome; randomly, Error:
"Error while copying .m4a>. There was an error copying the file
into
mtp://LGE_LG-G710_LGG710PMd4...". Show more details : "File not found".
  Options: ["Cancel","Skip All","Skip"].

I can't force reproducibility, sometimes it won't complain, but larger
copy/paste datasets correlate to more likely ending up with an error.

Workarounds: At error, select 'Cancel'; delete the offending
subdirectory/file from the phone; restart the copy-paste operation
from the point of failure; repeat as necessary.

This has been driving me nuts for a while now. The scroll wheel on my
desktop mouse (it's an MS wireless optical mouse model 1008) scrolls
rather fast. Instead of moving a few lines, it scrolls half a page or
more with a very gentle scroll. The bluetooth mouse I use with my
laptop does not do this so it's probably somewhat hardware specific.
However, I'm wondering if there is a way to modify the speed or
sensitivity. I found an answer here from about a year ago
  (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/1339) that suggests
there isn't a way but I'm wondering if anything has changed since
then. I've also skimmed through synaptic but didn't see anything
  promising (like gsynaptic for touchpads).

  Thanks.

not willingly. I only did do_release_upgrade.
But this setup can no longer be replicated,

probably no reason to keep it opened.

  The fix was found here:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/583375/access-to-usb-drive-broken-after-changing-uid
You need to remove /media/username directory

I checked and the only difference I've
found is that before removal the dir has:
  drwxr-x--- 2 root root
  and after removal:
  drwxr-x---+ 3 root root

So it seems newer nautilus can't work if
there are no ACL assigned to the dir?

Bug description:
  [Impact]

When zoom is enabled, the top bar and some shell dialogs (wireless
network selection, shutdown dialog, etc.) are not displayed properly.
  (See the attached screenshots.)

  [Test Case]

  1. Enable Zoom in Setting > Universal Access
  2. (Optional) Set zoom factor to around 3 (or higher)
  3. Look at the top bar. You will notice that all texts and icons are now
gone. If you move your cursor to the right of the top bar, and then click on
the status menu, you will see that only a portion of the menu is shown.
  4. For the shell dialogs, go to the Settings app. In the Wifi section, choose
one of the secured network available. You will see that the password dialog is
not displayed in its entirety.

  [Regression Potential]

Low. The affected code is only used in rendering shell panels and
popup menus at the moment. So any potential regression (like the
original bug) would be noticed in those places only, and not beyond.
Furthermore, the upstream fix has been tested regularly for 8 months
  already.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1782535] Re: cifs - poor upload speed with nautilus compared to rsync

2019-02-02 Thread Florian Schwarz
Thank you for looking into this problem.

What I observed additionally:
* the very first upload copy with nautilus is normal maximum speed (~110 MB/s)
* then every upload copy is about 7 MB/s
* if I change the file ending to ".exe" and upload, I get maximum speed!

Results to your requested data:

1st cp:
time cp -T /home/florian/upload.iso /mnt/cifs_nas_media_flo/upload.iso
real1m21,701s
user0m0,054s
sys 0m4,832s

2nd cp:
time cp -T /home/florian/upload.iso /mnt/cifs_nas_media_flo/upload.iso
real1m23,342s
user0m0,059s
sys 0m4,879s

=> so maximum speed (8GB need ca. 80 seconds)

1st gio copy:
gio copy -pT /home/florian/upload.iso /mnt/cifs_nas_media_flo/upload.iso
Transferred 114,8 MB out of 8,0 GB (6,8 MB/s)^C

2nd gio copy with ".exe" file ending:
gio copy -pT /home/florian/upload.exe /mnt/cifs_nas_media_flo/upload.exe
Transferred 8,0 GB out of 8,0 GB (115,0 MB/s)

So all this speed drop is somehow linked to the file ending.
What could interfere just because of different file endings?
And why are only nautilus and gio copy affected and not all copy utilities?

cifs. Copying an 8 GB file...

  Upload (local -> mounted)
  - Nautilus/Nemo -> 6 MB/s
  - rsync -> 50-60 MB/s

Download performance is also strange, but not my biggest concern.
  Download (mounted -> local)
  - Nautilus/Nemo -> 90 MB/s
  - rsync -> 50-60 MB/s

  rsync command (upload):
  rsync --progress /home/me/file.iso /mnt/cifs_media/

  fstab entry:
  //nas/media /mnt/cifs_media cifs
vers=3.0,uid=me,gid=me,credentials=/home/me/.smbcredentials,dir_mode=0700,file_mode=0700
 0 0

Any idea, why Nautilus is uploading up to 10 times more slowly than
rsync, although both using the same cifs, os, hardware, network etc.?

PS: Further info for bug report
  1) The release of Ubuntu: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
  2) The version of the package: Nautilus 3.26.3
  3) What you expected to happen: At least same speed as with using rsync
  4) What happened instead: See above

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814262] Re: Wired interface gets impossibly high metric 20100

2019-02-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher

Title:
Wired interface gets impossibly high metric 20100

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Actually this might be a heisenbug. I've had an issue with this all
morning since network-manager got an update this morning, but just now
*while this bug was being submitted* it decided to correct itself.

What I was getting was, on a machine (Dell XPS 13 9370) with WiFi and
a (Caldigit) Thunderbolt 3 dock with an ethernet port: After the
network-manager update I noticed everything was slower than I was used
to, and in gnome-shell the network icon showing was the WiFi one, not
  the wired one.

Looking at the output of route, or route -n for simplicity, I would
  see this:

  rachel@rainbow:~$ route -n
  Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface
  0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254 0.0.0.0 UG60000 wlp2s0
  0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254 0.0.0.0 UG20100 00
enp63s0
  169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 wlp2s0
  192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 10000
enp63s0
  192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 60000 wlp2s0

So the metric on the default route on enp63s0 had 20,000 mysteriously
added to it, which would obviously make it extremely low-priority. The
system was choosing the wifi connection instead, which isn't that
great in my office, hence observable slowness.

Now, this morning, this seemed to be the sticky situation. It didn't
show any sign of changing, whatever I did, after restarts of network-
manager, undock/redock, reboots, etc. I could change it manually with
ifmetric (and it would work), but that was about it.

I would have reported the bug then, but I had to go out. When I got
back I plugged in and initially saw the same thing again (that's where
the above snippet was pasted from). But *while* the ubuntu-bug
network-manager command was running, I noticed the gnome-shell network
icon switch to wired, checked again, and saw:

  rachel@rainbow:~$ route -n
  Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface
  0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254 0.0.0.0 UG10000
enp63s0
  0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254 0.0.0.0 UG20600 00 wlp2s0
  169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 wlp2s0
  192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 10000
enp63s0
  192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 60000 wlp2s0

So now the wifi connection has 20,000 added to it, which may still be
wrong? But I wouldn't otherwise have noticed it because the system is
  again *behaving* as expected.

This all seemed to happen after the network-manager upgrade (from
1.12.6-0ubuntu4 to 1.15.2-0ubuntu1) this morning. I can't say if these
metric+20,000 values were present before then, because I didn't have
any cause to go looking at it, it always just worked. Could it be some
issue with how the newer network-manager, or one of its associated
packages, is figuring out the metrics on new connections? Like it's
running some new heuristic to determine which one should really be the
preferred? If it's like it was just now, when it fixed itself after a
minute or so, that's not really a problem, but if it's like it was
this morning when it just seemed to be stuck with the ethernet
  connection at 20100, it is.

Latest Thunderbird (3.0.4) for Lucid Lynx (Beta, all updates to 04/14/2010.)
  Installed Version: thunderbird 3.0.4+nobinonly-0ubuntu1

Thunderbird windows don't redraw. "Hints", the text that should appear
when hovering over messages does not appear. Menus don't fill properly
when pulled down, just a blank square where menu items should be.

This occurs when Visual Effects (compiz) set to "Normal" or "Extra".
Thunderbird is the only app affected from what I can tell.

  Binary package hint: firefox

As stated in the summary - Firefox launches Transmission but the torrent is
not added. When Transmission is already running nothing happens. I can still
add torrent by double clicking the downloaded file in the Downloads window.
I can work around this problem by changing the TryExec=transmission-gtk to
TryExec=transmission-gtk %F in the transmission-gtk.desktop (and running
update-desktop-database).

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:

Status in gnome-shell source package in Cosmic:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  Upstream issue: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/913

  [ Impact ]

Keyboard Layout indicator don't display current layout (empty selected
  drop down box)

  [ Test case ]

  1. Boot
  2. Suspend or lock the screen
  3. Log again with your user
  4. The keyboard indicator should display current layout

  [ Regression Potential ]

Really low, we properly pass a null value instead of an undefined one,
  without breaking JS.

  --

  Steps to reproduce the bug:

  1. After normal boot, suspend or lock.
  2. Login again.

Result: Keyboard Layout indicator don't display current layout (empty
  selected drop down box)

  [ Workarounds ]

  - Switch with keyboard (Super+space) or mouse. BUT if you then logout
on the login screen *when you press the first character* of the
password the shown selected keyboard layout resets.

  - Restart Gnome Shell (Alt+F2 r):

  chromium-browser deletes modified autostart files

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Chromium does not have X session support; see
  http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=23001

However, if you configure it to run in the background, then it
installs a ~/.config/autostart/ file. This combined with configuring
to restore windows on startup would give effectively session
management, but for one small problem: the autostart file is created
with --no-startup-window. This makes sense, because the configuration
item is to run Chromium in the background.

However, if I then edit the command in gnome-session-properties, then
on next startup, Chromium REMOVES the autostart file! This is bad
behaviour: apps should not modify or remove configuration files once
the user has edited them (for example, consider the management of
configuration files under /etc when packages are upgraded).

Hence, if Chromium were simply prevented from changing the autostart
file if it is user-edited (i.e. has non-default contents), then it
would be possible to get effective session management, even without
  explicit support for XSM.

Yes, a warm reboot was performed after initial testing to confirm lack

Furthermore, the upstream fix has been tested regularly for 8 months
  already.

Furthermore, the upstream fix has been tested regularly for 8 months
  already.

Bug description:
  === SRU Justification ===
  [Impact]
Some Asus laptops report "discharging" when the battery is full and AC
  is plugged

  [Test]
Charge battery to full, the issue appears.
Users report with the patch the behaviour is correct.

  [Fix]
The discharge rate is 0 on those machines. Use that to detect the wrong
  status report.

  [Regression Potential]
Low. The quirk uses strict DMI to match affected systems.

  === Original Bug Report ===
The AC adapter status is incorrectly reported when the battery is fully
charged. It always shows as if the adapter is not plugged in. If the battery is
drained for a while, the adapter status is shown correctly (both connects and
disconnects are shown).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814387] [NEW] swithching workspace by scrolling on edge of Dock (left side bar)

2019-02-02 Thread Stefan Gräber
Public bug reported:

If you position the mouse corsor on the edge of Dock and scroll, you can
switch the workspace, which behaves equivalent to the scrolling on the
"Show Applications" button in the corner.

I've reproduced it on other Ubuntu 18 installations of friends (all 3 I
tested, at least one was a fresh installation from the official iso).

It is not important where Dock is or whether a window or the desktop is next to
it. Program shortcuts have also no effect, because they end before it.
It works with a single or 2 monitors on all instances of Dock.

I use Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS with all updates (via apt upgrade) installed
and observed it for several months now. (After starting apport for this
I updated again and nothing changed, no restart)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814284] Re: зависает всё

2019-02-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1782535] Re: cifs - poor upload speed with nautilus compared to rsync

2019-02-02 Thread Florian Schwarz
By the way, due to freezing issues with copying many small files last august, I
was forced to change fstab. The cifs/smb version is now 2.0:
//ip-address/home /mnt/cifs_nas_home cifs
uid=florian,gid=florian,credentials=/home/florian/.smbcredentials,dir_mode=0700,vers=2.0
 0 0

Restrictions to the .exe speed drop exception:
If the .exe-file already exists in the destination, replacing is as slow as
coping iso files (7 MB/s)
Same behaviour with gio copy.

Because of the replacement issue above I repeated the measurements with
following approach:
- test file size 8 GB
- only upload
- fast copies are repeated 3 times and averaged performance chosen (only if no
freak value)
- slow copies are repeated 3 times too but aborted after ca. 20 seconds

Results

Tool/CMDtypeending performance (in MB/s)
nautiluscopyiso ~ 7
nautilusrepl. iso ~ 7
nautiluscopyexe ~ 110
nautilusrepl. exe ~ 7
gio copycopyiso ~ 7
gio copyrepl. iso ~ 7
gio copycopyexe ~ 110
gio copyrepl. exe ~ 7
cp copyiso ~ 75
cp repl. iso ~ 110
cp copyexe ~ 110
cp repl. exe ~ 110

Commands
gio copy -pT /home/florian/testfile-upload-8gb.[iso/exe]
/mnt/cifs_nas_media_flo/testfile-upload-8gb.[iso/exe]
time cp -T /home/florian/testfile-upload-8gb.[iso/exe]
/mnt/cifs_nas_media_flo/testfile-upload-8gb.[iso/exe]
Annotation: Because "cp" has no progress function, the less accurate time
command is used. Through comparing "gio copy -pT" and "time gio copy -pT", I
translated "cp" time results to performance.

Very first copy issue
This part needs to be observed more closely. Resetting cifs mount (umount,
mount) appears to help for a few 8 GB copies. But after a few it starts fast
but drops hard down to 7 MB/s after 4 GB transmitted. After some more beginning
and cancelling copies it stays at 7 MB/s permanently.

Summary:
- massive speed drop with upload copy is only observed with "nautilus" and "gio
copy", not "cp", although the last one has also a weird behaviour, but that's
probably another matter
- the very first copy issue needs closer observation
- speed drop is depending on file ending, ".iso" is always slow, ".exe" only if
replacing existing file

Any idea, why Nautilus is uploading up to 10 times more slowly than
rsync, although both using the same cifs, os, hardware, network etc.?

PS: Further info for bug report
  1) The release of Ubuntu: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
  2) The version of the package: Nautilus 3.26.3
  3) What you expected to happen: At least same speed as with using rsync
  4) What happened instead: See above

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814387] Re: swithching workspace by scrolling on edge of Dock (left side bar)

2019-02-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report, what's the output of the command?
- dpkg -l | grep dock

the bug is similar to bug #1719706 but that was fixed, do you use the
ubuntu dock or did you install dash to dock?

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock
(Ubuntu)

** Changed in: gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Low

I've reproduced it on other Ubuntu 18 installations of friends (all 3
I tested, at least one was a fresh installation from the official

It works with a single or 2 monitors on all instances of Dock.

I use Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS with all updates (via apt upgrade) installed

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1070823] Re: chromium-browser deletes modified autostart files

2019-02-02 Thread Reuben Thomas
As far as I can tell, this is no longer a problem. In particular, I have
a ~/.config/autostart/chromium-browser.desktop file with a timestamp
from 2017, and it is set to run Chromium normally (without --no-startup-
window).

Title:
  chromium-browser deletes modified autostart files

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1787989] Re: adwaita icon them not found

2019-02-02 Thread Benji
I agree, that the issue is about small "a" and capital "A". This fixes the
problem for me:
>sudo ln -s /usr/share/icons/Adwaita /usr/share/icons/adwaita

Maybe, also this works (But as I'm not sure, if there are also programs, which
look for Adwaita with a capital "A", I thought having a softlink would be the
safest way):
sudo mv /usr/share/icons/Adwaita /usr/share/icons/adwaita

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1730035] Re: Needs to depend on Python3

2019-02-02 Thread Joern Heissler
For those who really don't want python3-apport and apport installed, despite
what Ubuntu maintainers say:
Create a new package with "Provides: python3-apport" that is otherwise empty.
Then python3-apport and apport can be uninstalled.

Warning: This might break your system.

  thing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814387] Re: swithching workspace by scrolling on edge of Dock (left side bar)

2019-02-02 Thread Stefan Gräber
No I don't have "dash to dock" installed (never heard of it before)
No, I don't scroll on the application button, it is just exactly the same
behavior. It works on the complete pixel line at the edge.

The similar bug could be actually the same, if you assume that the dock is a
layer of 2 rectangles where the upper one (which contains the program
shortcuts) is a bit too small on both sides.
I have really no knowledge about how it is implemented, so it could be sth
totally different.

requested output:

ii gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock 0.9.1ubuntu18.04.3 all Ubuntu
Dock for GNOME Shell

Title:
swithching workspace by scrolling on edge of Dock (left side bar)

Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
If you position the mouse corsor on the edge of Dock and scroll, you
can switch the workspace, which behaves equivalent to the scrolling on
the "Show Applications" button in the corner.

I've reproduced it on other Ubuntu 18 installations of friends (all 3
I tested, at least one was a fresh installation from the official
  iso).

It is not important where Dock is or whether a window or the desktop is next
to it. Program shortcuts have also no effect, because they end before it.
It works with a single or 2 monitors on all instances of Dock.

I use Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS with all updates (via apt upgrade) installed
and observed it for several months now. (After starting apport for
this I updated again and nothing changed, no restart)

  Cheese v3.30.0 (3.30.0-0ubuntu1)

Cheese detects and reports/offers/accesses ONLY the resolutions in the

(what I use the cam for) still images. Previously, in 16.04 LTS,
everything was working perfectly with Cheese; for example, it offered

Bug description:
  [Impact]

The problem occurs when the printer's driver package is updated and
with this the PPD is replaced and one of the default settings of the
queue is not available any more in the new PPD file. Then the setting
is prefixed with "Custom." and with this the jobs fail.

See comment #15 for more info.

  [Test Case]

  - Create a print queue with a PPD.
  - evince an arbitrary PDF file
  - Click the print icon
  - In the print dialog choose the newly created queue and choose some uncommon
paper size (not custom). Click "Print".
  - Check /var/log/cups/error_log, the page size gets correctly received.
  - Close evince.
  - Stop CUPS, edit the PPD file removing the paper size you have selected for
your job in the PageSize, PageRegion, PaperDimension, and ImageableArea lines.
  - Start CUPS.
  - Open the same PDF file again with evince, click Print and then select
"Print" in the print dialog without changing anything.
  - The job fails, in /var/log/cups/error_log you see that the page size is
prefixed with "Custom.".

With the fixed package installed the job will print.

  [Regression Potential]

The change applies only to saved settings of the print dialog not
matching with any of the settings available in the PPD file. In rare
cases the fix could fail by mis-understanding the setting and this way
not being effective. For options which do not support setting custom
values (the vast majority) the patch should always prevent a job
  failure though.

  [Other Info]

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814364] Re: software updater ask grub setting repeated

2019-02-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

  Actual results:
  * user is unable to find network folder and save/open file to/from it with

  -
  Original bug description is below:

GTK+3 doesn't show FUSE network shares in file chooser - it used to do
so in GTK+2, and the GTK+3 documentation still mentions it should do
  it.

In the mean time, every user of every application switching to GTK+3
-- including Chromium, at some point between 58 and 60 -- (a change
which happened in 16.04 LTS!!), loses the functionality to open or
save directly to a network share.

I had chosen 16.04 LTS for deploying our workstations at work, and my 50
users have been suddenly unable to do a simple operation they have to do dozens
of times a day.
They now have to "buffer" these files to their local filesystem when saving
them and before uploading them, and then copy them to the company's network
shares.
They were already a little bit grumpy when it stopped working with Firefox,
and are now really side-eyeing me when they apply updates and find Chromium
broken.

I have reported the bug upstream and provided a patch to fix this. I
hope you'll be able and willing to include it to Ubuntu's GTK+3
  package.

  Thanks in advance.

  Colin

swithching workspace by scrolling on edge of Dock (left side bar)

Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814413] [NEW] Whatever I try to get a printer set up, I get a CUPS problem

2019-02-02 Thread John Bell
Public bug reported:

This is really not new, but it is frustrating that Ubuntu has not been
able to fix this over the years. Just reinstalled 18.04 because I was
getting graphics driver problems which were preventing me even updating
software due to broken dependencies, and what should be an easy restore
is driving me crazy. I had problems initially with my earlier
installation of 18.04 but it sorted itself out I don't know how. Here
is the information gathered from the Ubuntu DebuggingPrintingProblems
link:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1782535] Re: cifs - poor upload speed with nautilus compared to rsync

2019-02-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for the detail, if 'gio' also has the issue then it's a lower
level issue and not a nautilus problem, reassigning. That's also
probably an upstream issue and would be worth reporting on
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib

** Package changed: nautilus (Ubuntu) => glib2.0 (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: glib2.0 (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => New

Title:
cifs - poor upload speed with nautilus compared to rsync

Status in glib2.0 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I'm mounting folders from my NAS on my computer (Ubuntu 18.04) with
cifs. Copying an 8 GB file...

  Upload (local -> mounted)
  - Nautilus/Nemo -> 6 MB/s
  - rsync -> 50-60 MB/s

Download performance is also strange, but not my biggest concern.
  Download (mounted -> local)
  - Nautilus/Nemo -> 90 MB/s
  - rsync -> 50-60 MB/s

  rsync command (upload):
  rsync --progress /home/me/file.iso /mnt/cifs_media/

  fstab entry:
  //nas/media /mnt/cifs_media cifs
vers=3.0,uid=me,gid=me,credentials=/home/me/.smbcredentials,dir_mode=0700,file_mode=0700

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: firefox

As stated in the summary - Firefox launches Transmission but the torrent is
not added. When Transmission is already running nothing happens. I can still
add torrent by double clicking the downloaded file in the Downloads window.
I can work around this problem by changing the TryExec=transmission-gtk to
TryExec=transmission-gtk %F in the transmission-gtk.desktop (and running
update-desktop-database).

0.92.4+68~ubuntu18.10.1 is not a version that comes from the ubuntu

2019-02-02 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Первых два шага не помогают. Проблема остается и звук появляется только при

I disagree. It's Lx*Qt*, so one should prefer the qt5 plugin. But does
it have a file picker?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1812101]

2019-02-02 Thread Michael Weghorn
Hi Rene,

(In reply to Rene Engelhard from comment #24)
>
> I disagree. It's Lx*Qt*, so one should prefer the qt5 plugin. But does it
> have a file picker?

Yes, the qt5 plugin does have a file picker (which is currently used for
the lxqt case even when the kde5 plugin is used, s. commit from comment
19).

Currently, LXQt selects the VCL plugin to use in the same order as kde5,
s. [1], i.e. it tries "kde5" (where it gets the plain qt5 file picker),
then "gtk3_kde5", "gtk3", "gtk", "gen.

Other than the "kde5" plugin, plain "qt5" uses native Qt rendering
instead of Cairo rendering, which is more of an experiment at the
moment, and not really usable so far, so it's not included in any
fallback list and I don't think it would make sense to set it as default
for LXQt at the current stage.

IMHO, there are two questions to answer:

A) What should be the first option on LXQt (i.e. the first entry in it's
"fallback list"? I'd currently see these 2 options:

* a) leave kde5 the first option (as is)

* b) write a separate vcl plugin on top of qt5 that uses Cairo rendering
(similar to what kde5 does)

B) What should be the order of all other VCL plugins in the fallback
list for LXQt?

For A), I'd personally suggest to leave it as is for now, until the qt5
and kde5 plugins have matured a little more, and potentially revisit the
question then (and avoid the overhead of keeping a separate plugin in
sync now).

My previous comment was targeted at question B), and one thought of mine
was to drop gtk3_kde5 from the list for the LXQt case, for the reasons
mentioned in comment 21, which would mean that the fallback list for
LXQt would be ["kde5", "gtk3", "gtk", "gen"] in case A) stays as is.

That's just my personal opinion though, and I'd be interested to hear what you
think about this.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 145604]

2019-02-02 Thread Carolinewebb78
It was nice to get update on the patch for LCD filtering from SuSE
builds shared by David Turner, one of the freetype2 upstream developers
that means a lot for users to refer his concern about regarding the LCD
filtering and the Cairo patch are all on a public.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: libcairo2

There is a long-standing problem (Gutsy, Hardy, Intrepid - possibly
Jaunty too) with sub-pixel rendering which affects metacity or compiz
composition (see the images attached to this bug) when VRGB is chosen
as the sub-pixel format. Comment #15 by MoMaT demonstrates a non-
compiz scenario. My comments #2 and #10 demonstrate the issue with
  Compiz enabled.

The underlying issue essentially seems to be: where should sub-pixel
rendering should be done - in libcairo or in the font renderer
  (FreeType in this case) ?

There have been two versions of the Ubuntu patch in
libcairo/libcairo2. Reports seem to suggest that both versions may be
responsible for the VRGB problem (however, that supposition needs
  checking - see Bob McElrath's comment #19).

We need to be aware that libcairo (libcairo 1.5.4 in Universe) and
libcairo2 (cairo 1.6.0 in Main) are similarly patched and will need
  similar fixes.
