[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1839900] [NEW] Power button action not working
Public bug reported: I've configured it so that the system would suspend after pressing the power button. This does not happen. How is it reproducible? It started after updating from Ubuntu 18.04.2 to 18.04.3. New packages, new kernel, new bug. On Ubuntu 19.04, this has been reproducible since its release. This is also reproducible on other distributions with the GNOME desktop. This is exclusive to the GNOME desktop. No other desktop I've tried has issues with the power button action. Ubuntu 18.04.3 Kernel 5.0.0-23-generic GNOME 3.28.2 See attached logs. I'v been hit with the strange bug for some time in LibreOffice under Ubuntu 14.04 Namely whenever I try to enter some string in LibreOffice Calc using non-latin characters, cyrillic in my case, the entry renders just fine in the cell, but it renders with a series of squares at the formula entry widget. The same happens with the search entry widget (ctrl+f). I'm hit by this bug when using both the default packages from the official Ubuntu repository, the packages from the LibreOffice PPAs but also packages that I've downloaded from the Libreoffice website. The first strange thing I've notied is that those same deb packages downloaded from the LibreOffice website work just fine under Ubuntu 12.04. Today I've done some testing (after removing the PPA packages so that ubuntu-bug would allow me to report this bug), and noticed that if I remove the libreoffice-gtk package, then I don't have this problem any more, except for the non exsistent theming and really ugly looking of LO. I conclude that the problem is not in the LibreoOffice itself but in some gtk library. I'm sending screenshots of the bug. One is taken under Ubuntu 12.04 where everything works fine, the other under Ubuntu 14.04 where this bug appears. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1838151] Re: Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. Missing wide band speech support.
Just noticed this with my new Bluetooth headset. With the same headset, the microphone and audio quality is a lot better when paired with an Android device than when paired with my desktop (4.15.0-55-generic Ubuntu 18.04.03 LTS). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1838151 Title: Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. Missing wide band speech support. Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Bluetooth HSP/HFP audio quality is poor on Ubuntu comparative to all other major platforms (Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, Android, iOS). Modern Bluetooth headsets (such as the Bose QC series headphones, many others) are capable of using HFP 1.6 with mSBC 16kHz audio encoding. As it currently stands, Ubuntu defaults to only supporting HSP headsets using 8kHz CVSD, and is incapable of supporting HFP 1.6 at this time. The ChromiumOS team recently tackled this issue - https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=843048 Their efforts may assist in bringing this to Ubuntu, however it appears that there are quite a lot of differences considering they have developed their own audio server solution etc. The Bluetooth Telephony Working Group published the HFP 1.6 spec in May 2011 - https://www.bluetooth.org/docman/handlers/downloaddoc.ashx?doc_id=238193 Patches have been proposed in the past for this issue to the kernel and PulseAudio: PulseAudio: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/245272/ Kernel: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-bluetooth/msg76982.html It appears that the Chromium OS team applied the same kernel patch: https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/third_party/kernel/+/77dd0cb94c1713a8a12f6e392955dfa64c430e54 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.04 Package: pulseaudio 1:12.2-2ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.0.0-20.21-generic 5.0.8 Uname: Linux 5.0.0-20-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu27.1 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: jnappi 2777 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sat Jul 27 11:08:29 2019 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-11-04 (629 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Release amd64 (20171018) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: pulseaudio UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to disco on 2019-07-18 (9 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 06/07/2016 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: R07ET67W (2.07 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20FW000TUS dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0J40705 WIN dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: None dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrR07ET67W(2.07):bd06/07/2016:svnLENOVO:pn20FW000TUS:pvrThinkPadT460p:rvnLENOVO:rn20FW000TUS:rvrSDK0J40705WIN:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNone: dmi.product.family: ThinkPad T460p dmi.product.name: 20FW000TUS dmi.product.sku: LENOVO_MT_20FW_BU_Think_FM_ThinkPad T460p dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T460p dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1838151/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I've found the cause, and a temporary solution: This bug was caused after an update for the latest version of libdrm- amdgpu1 2.4.97-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 So I grabbed the previous version from https://mirror.transip.net/ubuntu/ubuntu/pool/main/libd/libdrm/ installed libdrm-amdgpu1_2.4.95-1~18.04.1_amd64.deb and now Kodi returns. ** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1804657 Title: [snap] Double-clicking on Old Hungarian doesn't select the whole word in Writer Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: I recently noticed that there is a regression that was introduced somewhere between LibreOffice 6.0.6.2 and 6.1.3.2, which I installed as a snap (version number 90) on Ubuntu 18.04. Steps to reproduce: 1) Write a paragraph in Old Hungarian (Unicode block U+10C80 to U+10CFF). 2) Double-click anywhere in the text. Double-clicking should select the whole word, and it works that way for most scripts (Latin, Arabic, and even Gothic), but for some reason for Old Hungarian, double-clicking only selects the individual character under the cursor. In LibreOffice 6.0.6.2 selecting Old Hungarian works as expected. For a sample paragraph in Old Hungarian, see the attached document. This was due to launchpad builders running out of disk space during the build. It looks like this limitation might no longer be relevant, from a conversation I had with launchpad folks on IRC: how much disk space do builders have at their disposal when building debs? oSoMoN: The instances have 60GB root volumes, and all but a couple of gigabytes should be usable by the build wgrant, thanks! was this increased in the last few years by any chance? I'm asking because the libreoffice package was artificially separated into two source packages because of a disk space limitation, and I'm wondering whether we could get rid of this workaround now 60GB should be enough for that purpose but I'd like to understand what the limitation was previously oSoMoN: It's slowly increased over the years. The -l10n split was back in the Xen days. I really don't remember what things were set to back then Probably 40GB, but not sure oSoMoN: Hmm, the split actually predates virtualised builders at all, so there's really no way to tell unless you can find IRC logs from 12 years ago wgrant, ack, in any case it looks like it's worth trying to reconcile the two source packages now, there's a good chance it will work oSoMoN: Worth a try indeed Until a few years ago builders weren't particularly clean, either. cjwatson, so less disk space available due to leftovers? Certainly in the pre-virtualised days you could very well end up with piles of junk left around from old kernels, previous builds, etc. And it wouldn't have been consistent across builders. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1839856] [NEW] Screen resolution on external monitor won't go above 2560 x 1080
Public bug reported: I have an external monitor capable of 3440 x 1440. I am using a Thinkpad T480s. Up until about 2 weeks ago, I could set the resolution of the monitor to 3440 x 1440 just fine. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1332847] Re: Switching from russian to chinese does not work
I understand completely what you write now, and won't argue with you. After all I don't speak any language which requires an input method, so my view wouldn't be worth much anyway. As we already agreed on, it's the upstream maintainers you need to convince. And to make it more complicated, it's not obvious that the Chinese maintainers have the same view on this topic as the Japanese and Korean ones. Chinese is the simple case, I think. There would the "us" layout be natural in most cases. Not that easy with Japanese and Korean. Those languages have special "jp" respective "kr" XKB layouts, which are close to "us", but not quite. Instead they are designed to be used together with some input method. To get an idea of the complexity of this topic you may want to check out the discussion at this issue: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/issues/196 ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/issues #196 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/issues/196 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to ibus-anthy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1332847 Title: Switching from russian to chinese does not work Status in ibus-anthy package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in ibus-libpinyin package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in ibus-pinyin package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: There are three languages installed: en, ru, chinese pinyin (adjusted to be switched in this exact order).
