[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1846871] Re: Desktop Icons NG shell extension breaks Activities vew
The Problem is independent from the NG extension. I disabled the Ubuntu Desktop Icons extension by moving it away from /usr/share/gnome- shell/extension because i use nemo-desktop. After that the activity view is broken as described above. I use nemo-desktop the last 4 years together with gnome-shell and had no problems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846871 Title: Desktop Icons NG shell extension breaks Activities vew Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: First reported here https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/installing-just- one-extension-makes-ubuntu-eoan-to-fail/12816 Steps 1. I tried first to disabled default Desktop Icons extension(1) 2. I installed "Desktop Icons NG" from https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/2087/desktop-icons-ng-ding/ 3. Tested the extension was properly working (DnD, open folders) OK 4. Opened the Activity view: stuck in this view At this stage there is no way to exit from the activity view. Arrow keys work fine for moving the selection on open window, search works fine as well, but pressing Enter key does nothing, as well as clicking on the close window X does not kill the windows. Logging out is the only way to recover, until Activity view is opened again. Reproduced on Eoan in a VM, while it is not reproducible on Fedora 29 (currently I can't test the latest fedora, but the original report made more tests and it seems reproducible in Eoan only). This extension provides some more common features for desktop icons, so it is likely to be installed more in the future. Note: 1. The default desktop icons extension looks always disabled (GNOME tweaks switch is off), even if it's actually working, so I just switched the visibility of the icons off from default Desktop Icons settings. This very likely did not disable the extension, but it's likely what a normal user would do. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1846871] Re: Desktop Icons NG shell extension breaks Activities vew
The extension ID is supposed to be unique. It is a serious bug if NG is using the same extension ID as an existing extension. I imagine the maintainers of extensions.gnome.org would remove an extension for that issue if it was reported. Until that bug is fixed, I don't think Ubuntu has any responsibility to attempt to block the broken extension. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846871 Title: Desktop Icons NG shell extension breaks Activities vew Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: First reported here https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/installing-just- one-extension-makes-ubuntu-eoan-to-fail/12816 Steps 1. If it helps interpreting the logs: when the log file snapshot was taken, I was of course running the Nouveau drivers, 'cause that's the only way the system works. But the boot attempt immediately preceeding that was with the NVidia 390 drivers installed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846899 Title: X won't start at boot with either nvidia driver Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The video card is a GeForce GT 730, which worked well with Ubuntu 16.04. After changing to Xubuntu 18.04, I can only run the Nouveau driver and the lack of acceleration is quite noticeable. When I try to enable the "tested" NVidia driver (390), the system never presents a log-in prompt, I just get a colorful display of large blinking gibberish. I have to go to the boot options, go directly to root prompt, and remove the NVidia driver. This make the system usable again, but I'm back to the Nouveau driver. I get similar symptoms with version 340.107 of the NVidia driver. It's a little hard to collect debug information when I can't get to a prompt to look at log files... Suggestions are welcome. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1846871] Re: Desktop Icons NG shell extension breaks Activities vew
Extensions are released for everyone, not specifically for Ubuntu, so not the extension developer's responsibility to check, which distros would work. Quote https://extensions.gnome.org/about/ "All extensions uploaded to this site are carefully reviewed for malicious behavior before they are made available for download." As users are normal people, they'd try out any extension out there, and Ubuntu 19.10 would fail. Any extension downloaded from https://extensions.gnome.org/about/ would install it in ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions and would override the system extension, user comes first. Both extensions are from the same author, whatever the name of the extension (for example, desktop-icons@csoriano). If we take the system Desktop Icons extension, it cannot be blocked from any future development by the author/maintainer. What we call Desktop Icons system extension is static, as it is, while the maintainer had upgraded it few days ago. The bug is here in Ubuntu Eoan, not with the extension. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846871 Title: Desktop Icons NG shell extension breaks Activities vew Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: First reported here https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/installing-just- one-extension-makes-ubuntu-eoan-to-fail/12816 Steps 1. Prior to filing a bug myself I searched launchpad for "num lock", so this bug with "numlock" in the title did not show up. The bug I filed is Bug #1846249. I am experiencing the same issue under 19.10 when logged in with Wayland. The problem is not present in an X session. In fact I can do the following: (1) boot the computer with the numlock key (led) active (2) login to a Wayland session and the number keys won't work but num key led is on (3) log out (not reboot) and log into an X session (4) number keys work immediately (have not touched numlock key and led is still on) (5) log out (not reboot) and lot back into a Wayland session (6) number keys do not work unless I hit numlock key which turns off the numlock led The relevant gsettings for numlock can be found in my bug report as well as some other logs and information: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings- daemon/+bug/1846249 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1845031 Title: gnome not remembering numlock state in eoan Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: in 3.34, gnome-settings-daemon has removed its handling of numlock state persistence, claiming that mutter should be handling that now (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings- daemon/commit/710a4c4e7828828cb35ea14333882354ae73264f). When it is on (indicator light is lit), the numbers do not work, but the arrows, page up/down, home, end keys, etc. work. When it is off, the numbers work and the arrows, etc. are disabled. Viewing the image of my keyboard layout (English US) in the Regions and Language section of GNOME settings shows Num Lock lit up when it is not lit on the keyboard and vice versa. I use the Wayland session, and this issue was not present prior to upgrading (I originally installed 18.10 and then upgraded to 19.04.). It is not present if I use another keyboard (I booted with a LITE-ON SK-9020 which uses USB like the DASKeyboard.). To control the volume by scrolling the mouse wheel you need to hold the mouse pointer over the volume icon. Does this bug affect the vanilla GNOME session or only the Ubuntu session? If it only affects the Ubuntu session, it is probably just a compatibility problem between Ubuntu's desktop icons extension and the "NG" extension. Public bug reported: Thunderbird 1:68.1.1+build1-0ubuntu1 On Ubuntu 19.10 fully updated. When writing an email, upon clicking on Enigmail in the menu bar, Thunderbird crashes. I contacted Enigmail’s lead dev about the issue who wrote: "…but even if the crash is initiated by Enigmail, the cause is certainly in Thunderbird. Enigmail is purely JavaScript and XUL - and by definition of the programming languages, these two cannot crash Thunderbird." I tried Thunderbird 68.1.1 from Mozilla’s site, and can’t reproduce the problem with it. Here is Thunderbird’s log upon crashing: AdapterDeviceID: 0x1912 AdapterDriverVendor: mesa/i965 AdapterDriverVersion: 19.3.0.0 AdapterVendorID: 0x8086 Add-ons: %7Be2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103%7D:68.1.1,%7B847b3a00-7ab1-11d4-8f02-006008948af5%7D:2.1.2,antidote7_linux_thunderbird_102%40druide.com:10.1.30,en-CA%40dictionaries.addons.mozilla.org:3.1.0,fr-dicollecte%40dictionaries.addons.mozilla.org:6.3.1webext,wetransfer%40extensions.thunderbird.net:2.0.0,thunderbird-compact-dark%40mozilla.org:1.0,google%40search.mozilla.org:1.0,bing%40search.mozilla.org:1.0,amazon%40search.mozilla.org:1.1,ddg%40search.mozilla.org:1.0,qwant%40search.mozilla.org:1.0,wikipedia%40search.mozilla.org:1.0,twitter%40search.mozilla.org:1.0,langpack-fr%40thunderbird.mozilla.org:68.0,wetransfer%40extensions.thunderbird.net:2.0.0 BuildID: 20191001201558 ContentSandboxCapabilities: 119 ContentSandboxCapable: 1 ContentSandboxLevel: 0 CrashTime: 1570225903 EventLoopNestingLevel: 1 FramePoisonBase: 9223372036600930304 FramePoisonSize: 4096 InstallTime: 1570020285 IsWayland: 0 Notes: Ubuntu Eoan Ermine (development branch)FP(D00-L1000-W-T000) WR? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1846877] [NEW] Thunderbird provides no way to interact with the interface after adding an account.
Public bug reported: Hi, I’ve tried to add an account from an Office account. The default suggestion from Thunderbird is to use Owl, a paid add-on, which is probably the best solution for non-technical users. I however am a technical user and don’t mind just setting what I’m being asked to do here: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/admin-services/ict/self-service/connect-communicate/email/use/thunderbird/ After all the setting done, I just click on the button “Done”. What I expected: Thunderbird closing the setting window and adding the account. What I got: Thunderbird not closing the setting window, but greying all its buttons but “Cancel”. After waiting some time, still the same. I eventually clicked on “Cancel”. The account was not added, but the new SMTP was added. It seems that the addition the new account stopped in the middle of the process, and that Thunderbird did not catch the error or whatever happened. Regards, Martin. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1846477] Re: Dragging icons in launcher is slow until shell restarted
I don't know if it's related, but I frequently add and remove external displays. Maybe a couple of times a day. I plug it into the docking station when I work. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1846871] [NEW] Desktop Icons NG shell extension breaks Activities vew
Public bug reported: First reported here https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/installing-just-one- extension-makes-ubuntu-eoan-to-fail/12816 Steps 1.
