encrypted home-directory is not unmounted on logout

Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu:

Status in gnome-session package in Ubuntu:

Status in ecryptfs-utils package in Debian:

Bug description:
  Current Situation:

If you log out from an user account with an encrypted home directory,
it is not automatically unmounted and encrypted again.

  Expected behaviour:

If I log out from an user account with an encrypted home directory, Id expect
the homedir to be unmounted and encrypted again.
  Stepts to reproduce:

log into an account with encrypted home directory. (lets call it: user)
  Log out again
log into another account (which has sudo rights, lets call it: user2)

and now enter the following into a terminal:

  user2@ubuntu: sudo su
  user2@ubuntu: ls -la /home/user

you can see the files of the user

  Reasons:
This is a security issue, because as a user you can reasonable expect your
data to be safe, if you log out. if you would simply log in as another user but
keep your data accessable you would simply switch user, instead of loggin out.
Many users only suspend their laptop while carrying it with them. Logging out
and suspending the user expects to have at least the home directory encrypted.

2020-07-10 Thread Brendan_P
Via dup: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/+bug/1886672

Adding some additional testing to my above comments.

*When second monitor is not removed*, i.e. remains connected, lock
screen/suspend resume all restore display as expected after latest
updates as suggested by Daniel in above linked dup.

Plugging display out, gnome adjusts to single screen settings as
expected. But plugging back the second monitor in does nothing.
Restarting gnome-shell resets displays as expected. I.e. working.

Also note not working in #26 regarding resuming laptop after plugging in
screen.

  Multiple screen display issues

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
New bug for me. Issue was fine till last week. I think this may be
related to the following as it started happening shortly thereafter.

I have XPS13 with second monitor, all working fine till I lock screen
or suspend. Then my second monitor will not 'resume'. I.e. stays off.

This behaviour started after (or shortly after) playing a wine game
using Lutris to launch. Shutting game down and almost immediately
hitting suspend on the laptop. Was rushing out.

It's a wild shot in the dark but I think something got messed up / not
  saved correctly in this process.

To get it working I need to unplug monitor (using USB-C > HDMI) >
suspend > plug in monitor > resume and sometimes still need to open
display settings before it 'kicks in'. Damn annoying. Hope someone can
  help :)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1887161] [NEW] sound does not switch to bluetooth speakers automatically after connecting

2020-07-10 Thread Tomislav
Public bug reported:

I connect to a bluetooth speaker.

Observed behaviour: connection established, but sound still continues to
come from the built-in speakers and when looking at available sound
outputs in the gnome-control-center, there are no new outputs.

Expected behaviour: connection established, sound output switches to BT
speaker automatically, new sound output device visible in sound settings

Workaround: disconnect and reconnect a few times, after which everything
seems to work

The BT speaker is a actually the F900 2 Channel Amp Bluetooth Amplifier
feeding regular wired speakers behind it.

  Can attach screenshots if possible.

I just freshly installed Ubuntu 20.04 from a USB and ran sudo apt-get

EDIT: Turns out I can't attach three screenshots. I can only attach

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1859955] Re: Long delays and repeated flashing when docking laptop with multiple monitors

2020-07-10 Thread Vadym Abramchuck
I'm facing the same issue on Dell XPS 13 9380 and Type-C dock with 2
displays. Sometimes I'm seeing all 3 screens flashing, sometimes they go
black but mouse pointer is visible (and it's moving). Like in the
original report, it may take up to 20 seconds for screens to settle.

Could be somehow related to #1883292.

Bug description:
Running Focal on my ThinkPad T450, but not unique to this release as
it happened on 19.10 (and probably older releases too).

  Steps to reproduce.

While running GNOME Shell, attach the laptop to additional external monitors.
(I'm using a docking station, but equally you can attach them via the video
ports on the laptop itself)

  Expected outcome

Desktop on 1 monitor goes away.
Desktop comes back on N monitors.

  Actual outcome

  Laptop display goes black
Laptop display comes back, moved 50% horizontally
  One external monitor comes on
Laptop display goes back to normal
  Second external monitor comes on
All three displays go off again
Laptop display comes on again alone
  Laptop display goes off again
  laptop display comes on again
External monitors come back on again
  System is usable.

The entire process takes twenty seconds.

Bug description:
I installed Ubuntu 20.04 on my ASUS laptop with Intel+Nvidia with propietary
drivers of Nvidia (I have 440.64 rn) and I connected a second monitor to use
it, but I saw that I cannot use it, I just see a blank screen. I tried with a
TV of my room and same. The funny part is when I start the laptop to work, I
can see the logo of my BIOS and the ASUS logo in the second monitor, even the
grub, but after that I can't see nothing.
When I reduce the resolution of the second monitor (800x600) then works, but
even with that sometimes blinks to black again.
On W10 for example it works perfectly, so I deduce it's not 'cause my HDMI.

I tried with nouveau drivers and I have the same results btw.

  Laptop Asus with:
  Graphic card Nvidia GTX960M
  Processor Intel i5 6300

I tried with Nvidia Prime to Nvidia, Intel and On-demand. None of them
works. All of them with Xorg.

PD: When you select a specific resolution, the second monitor "works",
but it blinks, the image showed via HDMI on the second monitor blinks.
So is impossible to work with it. Since all this time I was searching
about this and I'm almost sure this is a problem of the GPU's Intel.
But I saw this problem on askubuntu just with laptops with hybrid
graphics. Always with Nvidia+Intel. (Maybe AMD+Nvidia too, but I'm not
sure if they have the same problem here).

2020-07-10 Thread Rolf Leggewie
My apologies for the fudged linebreak in the previous comment.

I am happy to report that recompiling the bionic packages while
disabling Support-hiding-rather-than-desensitizing-disallowed-
items.patch from debian/patches/series fixes this issue for me (after
logging out of X and logging back in).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1853007] Re: nsemail and nscopy files left in /tmp

2020-07-10 Thread Michael Hass
Still valid. On a system with lots of Users, there are thousands of
mails left which all go in the backup. Why can't you just have them
automatically deleted after sending them - or at least some kind of
encrypted!
