[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1904583] Re: SRU: Backport the latest developments on drivers detection and hybrid graphics
Package FTBFS on arm64 for bionic - maybe a retry is needed? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-prime in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1904583 Title: SRU: Backport the latest developments on drivers detection and hybrid graphics Status in OEM Priority Project: Confirmed Status in nvidia-prime package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in ubuntu-drivers-common package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in nvidia-prime source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in ubuntu-drivers-common source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in nvidia-prime source package in Focal: Fix Released Status in ubuntu-drivers-common source package in Focal: Fix Released Status in nvidia-prime source package in Groovy: Fix Released Status in ubuntu-drivers-common source package in Groovy: Fix Released Bug description: As we introduced the "-server" NVIDIA drivers, and the concept of "LTSB" (Long Term Support Branch) and "NFB" (New Feature Branch) releases, the detection logic behind ubuntu-drivers needs an update to make the correct choices for the user. The introduction of the NVIDIA 450 series, also added runtime power management, which greatly improves user experience on systems with hybrid graphics, and allows greater power savings. When supported, on- demand mode and runtime power management are the default. Both gpu- manager and ubuntu-drivers in ubuntu drivers common, and the tools in the nvidia-prime package need updating as a result. The nvidia-prime package also has a change to fix a problem where /lib/udev/rules.d/50-pm-nvidia.rules was left behind, after a system upgrade 20.04 LTS (focal) to 20.10 (groovy), and yet prime-select had lost the ability to remove the udev rules file, leaving the end user with no means to re-enable his/her Nvidia GPU. Only the components in Ubuntu 20.10 require a fairly small diff for the backport. The rest is a direct sync of the 1:0.8.6.3 release in 21.04. [Impact] * The ubuntu-drivers tool might install the wrong driver, or, in some cases, crash, if the new -server drivers are available. * The new runtime power management can't be used even when the hardware (Turing GPUs or newer) supports it. * We want to the default drivers to be Long Term support releases. Users may still pick different drivers manually. [Fix] * The code in Ubuntu 21.04 includes essential bug fixes, and more test cases in the test suite, to make sure that driver installation is more robust, and more accurate (LTSB vs NFB releases, and non-server vs -server releases). * ubuntu-drivers, gpu-manager, and prime-select now all support runtime power management. [Test Case] Install ubuntu-drivers-common and nvidia-prime from proposed, and check the following: 1) ubuntu-drivers debug 2) Make sure no nvidia driver is installed (sudo apt-get --purge remove '*nvidia*', and try installing an nvidia driver with "sudo ubuntu-drivers install" 3) Reboot your system 4) [optional] If you are running on a hybrid laptop, you can check if your system supports runtime power management: sudo prime-select on-demand (if you are already in "on-demand" mode, select "intel" mode first, then try "on-demand" again) 5) If you followed step 4, reboot again 6) Attach your /var/log/gpu-manager.log [Regression Risk] Medium, while this code includes many fixes, it needs careful testing. == Changes == Only the components in Ubuntu 20.10 require a fairly small diff for the backport. So we can expect kernel v5.11 to fix this issue without any additional work. Before the release of v5.11, you are suggested to use #189 to save your touchpad. Note that for distributions like Ubuntu and Fedora, the pinctrl-amd driver is built into the initramfs. So you have to rebuild the initramfs after replacing the old module with new one. On Fedora, run `sudo dracut --force`; On ubuntu, run `sudo update-initramfs -u`. The complete solution is three patches, - 47a0001436352c9853d72bf2071e85b316d688a2 ("pinctrl: amd: remove debounce filter setting in IRQ type setting") - 06abe8291bc31839950f7d0362d9979edc88a666 ("pinctrl: amd: fix incorrect way to disable debounce filter") - 8dcb7a15a585b6d0fee15751ce11d7a68cfedd56 ("gpiolib: acpi: Take into account debounce settings") The first two patches has reached the stable tree. If the last one is also backported to LTS kernel, you won't need to install kernel 5.11. But I don't know when this will happen. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1916705] Re: glib2.0 >=2.67.3 breaks include from an extern C context
I'm going to close this bug in the 2.67.5-1 upload which I'm just making to experimental. There will still be "some" projects still affected, but it's as fixed as it's going to get from glib2.0's side - we made the API break opt in for packages that have followed glib's longstanding advice and defined the MAX_ALLOWED/MIN_REQUIRED macros. Affected projects can do either (but should do both) of these. - Define GLIB_VERSION_MAX_ALLOWED to something below GLIB_VERISON_2_66 to opt out or _2_68 to opt in to this new typesafe behaviour. - Not include glib's headers in an 'extern "C"' context. GLib has G_{BEGIN,END}_DECLS that might help with this. ** Changed in: glib2.0 (Ubuntu) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: glib2.0 (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Iain Lane (laney) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1916705 Title: glib2.0 >=2.67.3 breaks include from an extern C context Status in glib2.0 package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in qemu package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in ukui-control-center package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: qemu now breaks in Hirsute (it didn't 23h ago) Broken: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/524654684/buildlog_ubuntu-hirsute-amd64.qemu_1%3A5.2+dfsg-6ubuntu1_BUILDING.txt.gz Good before: https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/4471/+packages Error: ../../disas/arm-a64.cc In file included from /usr/include/glib-2.0/glib/gmacros.h:241, from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/glib-2.0/include/glibconfig.h:9, from /usr/include/glib-2.0/glib/gtypes.h:32, from /usr/include/glib-2.0/glib/galloca.h:32, from /usr/include/glib-2.0/glib.h:30, from /<>/qemu-5.2+dfsg/include/glib-compat.h:32, from /<>/qemu-5.2+dfsg/include/qemu/osdep.h:126, from ../../disas/arm-a64.cc:21: /usr/include/c++/10/type_traits:56:3: error: template with C linkage 56 | template | ^~~~ ../../disas/arm-a64.cc:20:1: note: ‘extern "C"’ linkage started here 20 | extern "C" { | ^~ Also in disas/nanomips.cpp, ... [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1917191] Re: firefox will not start after it crashed unexpectedly
If you don't mind installing debug packages that use a substantial amount of space, could you do the following: sudo apt install firefox-dbg firefox -g At the (gdb) prompt, type "r" then return. When the crash happens, you should be getting another (gdb) prompt, type "t a a bt" then return, press the return key until there is no more of the backtrace to display, then copy-paste the contents of the terminal to a text file and attach it here. This would be very helpful to understand where the crash is occuring. When connected the system automatically selects A2DP profile 2. Start playing audio (browser or other) 3. Change profile to HSP/HFP with pavucontrol (or blueman) 4. The audio disappears and microphone is not working (no input) 5. Optionally switch back to A2DP and the audio comes back [Expected] When switching to HSP/HFP the audio should keep playing and the microphone should start working [Notes] I tried with pavucontrol to switch between profiles while playing audio from a browser. As side note there's a led in the headset that still blinks when switching profile. I tried deleting the pulse folder under user's profile .config without success, also reinstalled packages and did a `sudo alsa force-reload` and rebooting several times. Note: not sure this is a duplicate of [Bug #1576559], it looks quite different since the profile changes but the headset stops working. For example change: ubuntu:x:1000:1000:Ubuntu:/home/ubuntu:/bin/bash to: ubuntu:x:1000:1000:Ubuntu,umask=007:/home/ubuntu:/bin/bash You may need to reboot for your X session to pick up the change. Then, from the graphical desktop, open a terminal and run: $ gnome-terminal -e sh in the opened terminal, run: $ umask the number shown should be 0007, as set in the passwd file [regression potential] any regression would likely result in an incorrect umask for the user whose passwd entry is modified. [scope] this is needed only for b this is fixed in systemd upstream by commit 5e37d1930b41b24c077ce37c6db0e36c745106c7 which was first included in v246, so this is fixed in g and later. This commit was also picked up by Debian and included in the v245 release for focal, so this is fixed in focal already. [original description] In order to set the default umask of my users to 027 or 007, I followed the instructions provided in 'man pam_umask' : In the 'gecos' field of '/etc/passwd', I have inserted 'umask=027' or 'umask=007' (for myself). Then, MOST graphical applications systematically run with the correct umask. In particular, when I press Alt-F2, run 'xterm sh' and type 'umask', it systematically displays 0007. But when I press Alt-F2, run 'gnome-terminal -e sh' and type 'umask', it systematically displays 0022. That is BAD, and is a security issue. Workaround : Inside the newly created '/etc/profile.d/umask.sh', and in each '~/.bashrc', add following content : UMASK="$(grep -o "^$USER:.*,umask=0[0-7]*" /etc/passwd)" if [ "$UMASK" ]; then umask "${UMASK#$USER:*,umask=}" fi In fact, 'gnome-terminal' MUST NOT force umask=022, but keep umask unchanged. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 508522] Re: Add automatic switching to HSP/HFP from A2DP when a mic is needed
I've added a new error report that goes beyond this issue, but is related to it, #1917358. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate/+bug/1917358 There are other interactions with Bluetooth and PulseAudio, making quite a mess of things. I tried the suggestion in Comment #74 without any success. I've tried a lot of combinations of things, discovering a number of misbehaviors documented there. My concern is, since this problem has been floating around for 11 years+ now, it may be that no one is ever going to fix it. It should at least be made explicit and clear that headset and earphone such microphones do not work with Ubuntu; I've wasted a couple of days fighting this, and now probably need to fall back to a Windows system to use for Zoom with headset. Of course, that means Zoom, and phones through the computer for Customer Relations, and Tech Support, and thousands of other usages. But at least they should not waste their time as I have, trying to set it up under Linux/Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508522 Title: Add automatic switching to HSP/HFP from A2DP when a mic is needed Status in PulseAudio: New Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: pulseaudio I'm testing a Nokia BH-905i headset (see http://www.wissel.net/blog/d6plinks/SHWL-8AZGGF ) on Ubuntu 10.10. The Bluetooth module correctly identifies the headset and the both audio profiles "HSP/ HFP Telephony duplex" and "A2DP High Fidelity Playback". For music playback only A2DP is suitable (HSP/HFP sounds like listening to music played through an old telephone). A2DP does not have an INPUT mode, so use of the headset for VoiP isn't possible. What would be needed is a separate selection to allow to select A2DP for output and HSP/HFP for input. Smartphones (a lot of them *nix based) phones do that (or they switch on the fly?). Formal structure: 1) Ubuntu 10.10 2) Pulse-Audio 1:0.9.22~0.9.21+stable-queue-32-g8478-0ubuntu21.1 consisting og pluseaudio, pulseaudio-esound-compat, pulseaudio-module-bluetooth, pulseaudio-module-gconf, pulseaudio-module-x11, pulseaudio-utils 3) Select high quality audio output and still use the Bluetooth microphone 4) Had to choose: either high quality audio or "telephone quality" with microphone I can change the profile without the Bluetooth connection dropping, but that's ridiculous. E.g. listening to music, a call comes in. Then I would need to switch the profile before answering. Please note that in Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile it's done automatically. TBH who cares about optimization in that But its usage is mostly build time and not runtime maybe -O0 on arm64 only I'm rebulding -O2 again to recheck if that really is it and then -O1 to check the in between it might "just" need a rebuild -O2 re-build segfault -O1 (for completeness) rebuild ... seems to hang? probably not really relevant agreed, but I want to rebuild -O0 again just to see it builds and then works -O0 on arm64 really seems to be a good choice I can try if rebuilding makes it fail on sid cpaelzer: recompiling openjade in arm64/sid doesn't make it segfault so it seems this needs a focal-only fix cpaelzer: the openjade segfault is also present in pgpool2, so not just in ancient PostgreSQL :( To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjade/+bug/1869734/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
