I have, but it is extremely user-unfriendly and unless you are looking
up this bug report, you would never know how to do it. Even then, the
notes in comment #87 are not the complete instructions.

Basically, this method is a dirty workaround of a patch job that needs
to be truly fixed in both the backend and the UI. The method used to get
and capture the key is not graceful, and the UI is plain incorrect.

I would fix it myself if it was something that had the skill to do (I
love open source software for that!), but I do not feel comfortable in
my skill level making those modifications. Instead, I have pointed this
very skilled and talented community to another piece of open-source
software that has done a very good job at tackling this issue for not
only Google Drive, but also for numerous other cloud storage vendors.
Their code base is mature, and the capabilities of that tool complement
what users of this project need.

In reality, the project might even look at integrating that tool's
functionality into this one, similar to how other modules have become
standard within the software. Spell checking is one function that comes
to mind.

I see this as an opportunity to potentially have one community help
another, giving them both a way to learn from the other's work and
experience. Isn't that one of the main benefits of being open source?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574582] Re: HP lt4120 Snapdragon X5 LTE USB modem not recognized by network-manager

2021-11-15 Thread Mike
This is not a NetworkManager problem. It is also reported by me in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1950385
and it is probably kernel bug.
The problem is described by ModemManager's developer in our discussion:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/-/issues/463#note_1157289
 as a broken USB communication.
According to diagnosis from kernel 5.1x the qmi_wwan module resets modem
firmware in endless loop:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/-/issues/463#note_1157919
although it was worked flawlessly earlier in kernel 5.8.x

The workaround is to use udev script for a modem to switch it to the MBIM mode
which works ok under ModemManager & NetworkManager. Reboot. Recreate connection
profile for modem in Network Manager Mobile Broadband Settings for your GSM
Network Provider to make it binded with new MBiM devid config.
Tested on kernels 5.8, 5,11, 5.13.

Place the attached udev script file in: /etc/udev/rules.d instead of any
old one. It uses usb_modeswitch to do the "magic" correctly.

2021-11-15 Thread Robert E. Novak
Sorry I missed the name change.  I was having trouble finding references
that described the changes in names for screen elements.  I am referring
to the top icons in the left hand toolbar/launcher, not the top task
bar.  The attached picture should help.

The --without-viavoice is not passed to the python bindings, so that
cannot be the problem.

That said I have now dropped the option from debian/rules, thanks :)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1950550] Re: language support app automatically installs firefox deb package (21.10)

2021-11-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Confirmed

Title:
language support app automatically installs firefox deb package
  (21.10)

Status in Snapcraft:
  Invalid
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in language-selector package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 21.10
  language-selector 0.216

If the initial 'Language support is not installed completely' prompt
on opening the app is accepted, the Firefox deb package will be
installed alongside the default Firefox snap package, resulting in two
installations of Firefox on the computer. This happens even though, in
my case, only the 'gimp-help-en' package is listed for installation,
and 'firefox' does not seem to be a dependency of it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1950488] Re: brltty ftbfs in jammy

2021-11-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
@Samuel,
https://salsa.debian.org/a11y-team/brltty/-/blob/master/doc/ChangeLog#L378
states that the option has been removed in 6.0 but it's still used in
debian/rules, it is probably newer python versions being stricter with
the use of non existing options?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1950918] Re: [regression] gnome crashed by mpv media player

2021-11-15 Thread elatllat
I was able to hit this bug every time (3) yesterday, and not at all today.
I commented line 23 of /etc/apport/crashdb.conf for next time.

I'm not technically able to explain more...

  From PPD maintainer:

  0.10.0
  --

This release adds authorisation checks for the profile holds and profile
switching
features of the backend daemon, through polkit. It is recommended that all
distributions upgrade to this version as soon as possible.

This release also adds support for the "quiet" kernel platform profile used
  in some systems.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1946215] Re: transmission: Fail to build against OpenSSL 3.0

True, but the new RC4 module uses CMake exclusively, and I figure it's
easier to just switch the whole package rather than try to write in the
autotools support for RC4.

It would all be so much easier if upstream would release a new version,
but they don't seem particularly interested:

Title:
transmission: Fail to build against OpenSSL 3.0

Status in transmission package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Hello,

As part of a rebuild against OpenSSL3, this package failed to build on one or
several architectures. You can find the details of the rebuild at

  https://people.canonical.com/~schopin/rebuilds/openssl-3.0.0-impish.html

or for the amd64 failed build, directly at

https://launchpad.net/~schopin/+archive/ubuntu/openssl-3.0.0/+build/22099409/+files/buildlog_ubuntu-
  impish-amd64.transmission_3.00-1ubuntu2.0~ssl3ppa1.1_BUILDING.txt.gz

We're planning to transition to OpenSSL 3.0 for the 22.04 release, and
consider
this issue as blocking for this transition.

You can find general migration informations at
  https://www.openssl.org/docs/manmaster/man7/migration_guide.html
For your tests, you can build against libssl-dev as found in the PPA
  schopin/openssl-3.0.0

This has been fixed upstream, currently on master:
  https://github.com/transmission/transmission/pull/1788
