[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1968929] Re: Missing Wayland login option on NVIDIA systems

** Changed in: oem-priority
   Status: New => Fix Released

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

Title:
Missing Wayland login option on NVIDIA systems

Status in OEM Priority Project:
  Fix Released
Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in gdm3 source package in Jammy:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Impact
  -
Systems using Nvidia graphics drivers should have an option to use Wayland
but Xorg should be the default.

Hybrid systems using Nvidia graphics drivers should use Wayland by
  default.

  Test Case 1
  ---
Create a new user (since existing users can choose their own session).
Restart your system after applying the update.
Select your name on the login screen.
A gear button should appear in the lower right of the screen.
Click the gear button. Ubuntu should be selected.

If you are using a system with only an Nvidia graphics card (so your
system is not a hybrid), there should be an Ubuntu on Wayland option.

Otherwise, there should be an Ubuntu on Xorg option.

  Test Case 2
  ---
Also verify that the behavior stays the same for systems that don't have
Nvidia graphics.

Create a new user (since existing users can choose their own session).
Restart your system after applying the update.
Select your name on the login screen.
A gear button should appear in the lower right of the screen.
Click the gear button. Ubuntu should be selected. There should also be an
Ubuntu on Xorg option.

  What Could Go Wrong
  ---
Hybrid systems should actually be using the Intel graphics for to run GNOME
Shell so that's why it should be safe to use Wayland by default.

There are some suspend & resume issues, an issue with gsync, etc.
which is why Nvidia are requesting that we don't enable Wayland by
default for systems that are only using the Nvidia graphics driver. We
do still make it available in case someone really wants to try without
  needing to edit system files.

Before last week, we were actually using Wayland by default for Nvidia
systems so this upload returns most systems back to that status quo.

  Priority

This is a high priority for the Desktop and OEM Teams and it's requested that
this update be available as soon as possible after release.

The desktop live session defaults to Xorg not Wayland so this doesn't
impact that session at all. We are not going to delay the release to
get this fix on the Ubuntu 22.04 desktop ISO.

  Original Bug Report
  ---
I'm using Ubuntu 22.04 on a Dell G15 5511 laptop that have an NVIDIA 3060
GPU. I saw in the last update in the gdm3 package that Wayland will be disabled
in machines with hybrid graphics.
The question is: In this laptop I can enable optimus to use Intel and
sometimes NVIDIA or keep only on NVIDIA (I use this option). So even it's
detected two GPUs the Intel one is unused.
I think the problem could extend for people with a desktop with an integrated
intel GPU and a discrete NVIDIA GPU, since both will be present in the system.
So maybe will be necessary to check with more accuracy to check if there are
two GPUs, but only one is being used or have a documented option to force the
enablement of Wayland.

Ok, I was able to find the problem.

I ran htop and noticed that both nm-applet and NetworkManager had a

  The menu blinks constantly

Status in network-manager-applet package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I've found this problem on Xubuntu 22.04, fresh update.

When I click on the network icon in the taskbar, I expect to get the
menu of available wifi networks, etc. This happens, but the menu
blinks so much that it's impossible to use it. I'm attaching a small
  screencast to show the problem.

When XFCE starts, I get a few seconds of "peace" before this starts.

  This might be related to

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1967274] Re: Screen sometimes can't update [Failed to post KMS update: CRTC property (GAMMA_LUT) not found]

2022-06-11 Thread Ionut Negru
I am using kernel v5.15.0-37 but I am still affected by this bug on my
XPS 15 (9500). Installed mutter is 42.1.

Also, the Night Light is not working (I saw some references in this
thread about this feature).

Is there anything else I must update on my system to have it working
properly?

Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1964036] Re: Firefox icon missing from panel following Kubuntu upgrade 20.04->22.04

2022-06-11 Thread Szymon Świerkosz
It happens to me after snap updates firefox and removes the old version the
icon was created from. I had a look at desktop file and while Exec property is
not version specific:
Exec=env
BAMF_DESKTOP_FILE_HINT=/var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/firefox_firefox.desktop
 /snap/bin/firefox %u
The Icon is:
Icon=/snap/firefox/1406/default256.png

Maybe use current symlink?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1970139] Re: VNC Connection doesn't work on arm64 (Raspberry Pi 4 8Gb) in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

2022-06-11 Thread wendellgee
Can confirm, both VNC and RDP have started to work with the latest
update.

Many many thanks, I had to postpone Ubuntu upgrades on Raspberry Pi 4
since 20.10 because of remote desktop issues.

Hint that solved inability to connect with the screen locked:
$ flatpak install flathub com.mattjakeman.ExtensionManager
$ flatpak run com.mattjakeman.ExtensionManager
Through Gnome Extension Manager install "Allow Locked Remote Desktop" and it
works.

  Summary of the bug:
  ---
When I try to connect to gnome-remote-desktop using VNC to a Raspberry Pi 4
Model B Rev 1.4 (8Gb) under Ubuntu 22.04 LTS the VNC client can't connect
(connection is refused). The connection passes the Password check validation
but don't connect (sometimes shows screen garbage before disconnecting).

I've used several VNC clients (Remmina in Ubuntu and Real VNC in
Android) getting the same problem failing either in X11 or Wayland.

  Notes:
  - VNC connection does work in in previous Ubuntu 21.10 version with the same
architecture (arm64) and same Raspberry Pi.
  - VNC connection also does work in amd64 machines with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and
gnome-remote-desktop 42.0-4ubuntu1, exactly the same software version that
doesn't work on arm64 (Raspberry Pi).

There is no apport info at all. Also there is almost no info in the
journal regarding this problem. When I try to connect to VNC server it
  show this:

  On Wayland:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1958267] Re: wpa can't connect to servers using TLS 1.1 or older

Is 2:2.10-6ubuntu2 the same as 2:2.10-9ubuntu1 in #76?

Title:
wpa can't connect to servers using TLS 1.1 or older

Status in wpa package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in wpa source package in Jammy:
  Fix Committed
Status in wpa package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
  * Impact
wpa built with in openssl3 fails to connect to TLS 1.1 or lower server

  * Test case
try to connect to a TLS <= 1.1 access point

  * Regression potential
the patch lowers the security level in some situation for compatibility, it
shouldn't prevent connecting to newer hardware, still try to connect to
different type of wifi with different security levels

  ---

those uses MD5-SHA1 as digest in its signature algorithm which no
longer meets OpenSSL default level of security of 80 bits

  http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/hostap/2022-May/040563.html

Workaround are described in #22 and #36 by basically using
  CipherString = DEFAULT@SECLEVEL=0

  which lowers the security level

  ---

With the current jammy version of wpasupplicant (2:2.10-1), I cannot
connect to the WPA Enterprise network eduroam, which is used by
Universities worldwide. I get a "Connection failed" message or a
  request to re-enter the password.

  - I've re-tried the credentials: no fix ;-)

  - Tried a 21.10 live session on the same machine: works fine!

  - Manually downgraded wpasupplicant to the impish version
  (2:2.9.0-21build1): connected normally.

  - Upgraded wpasupplicant to the latest version: fails to connect
  again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1978380] [NEW] External monitor not detected

2022-06-11 Thread Ilya
Public bug reported:

Hello. I have a laptop Lenovo Legion Y540-15IRH (81SX00EVRA) with Hybrid
graphics.
OS: 20.04.4 LTS and Windows 10 in dual boot.
BIOS is set to Switchable Graphics, meaning Hybrid.
NVidia PRIME profile is set to Intel (power saving).
So the problem is that on Ubuntu system doesn't detect an external monitor
through HDMI port.
When PRIME profile was set to NVidia best Performance - it was able to detect
the external monitor.
But as I am not playing games anymore - I don't want to use power-consuming and
noisy discrete RTX 2060. So I switched to integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630.
What should I do in order OS to detect an external monitor?

Thanks

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1978379] [NEW] Extension that runs on the lock screen is disabled the first time the screen is locked

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1978363] Re: The menu blinks constantly

2022-06-11 Thread Jose Maria Mateos
A bit more information:

* This doesn't happen when I'm disconnected from the network. So, as
annoying as this might be, it doesn't entirely break it. If I need to
connect to another network, I just have to disconnect the current one
(might take a few tries due to the blinking) and then connect to the new
one.

* Tried an LXDE session and this also happens.

I've found this problem on Xubuntu 22.04, fresh update.

When I click on the network icon in the taskbar, I expect to get the

blinks so much that it's impossible to use it. I'm attaching a small
  screencast to show the problem.

When XFCE starts, I get a few seconds of "peace" before this starts.

  This might be related to

Title:
[snap] Files on local network shares are not opened / written

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  Unknown
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in snapd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Run Firefox or Chromium as a Snap package in Ubuntu 22.04
  2. Have a SMB file server available where the network shares can be mounted
just by clicking on the share in Nautilus file manager (smb:// protocol,
usually mounted dynamically via `/var/run/user/.../gvfs/...`)
  3. Have one such share mounted and writable
  4. Open any website containing images in Firefox / Chromium
  5. Right-click on an image and select "Save Image As..."
  6. In the file save dialog, navigate to the mounted share
  7. Assert content of network share is visible and browsable from within the
save dialog
  8. Select "Save" at any folder in the network share

  Actual behavior:

  * File is not saved to selected network share location
  * No download entry is created
  * No error is shown

  Expected behavior:

  * File is saved to selected network share location
  * No error is shown

  Additional information:

  * When saving to a folder on the local machine instead, saving works
correctly as expected
  * In contrast to files, new folders that are created from within the save
dialog are saved correctly on the network share
  * Similar situation when trying to open a file with Ctrl + O on a network
share from Firefox / Chromium. After double-clicking e.g. an image file in the
file dialog, the file dialog closes but nothing happens otherwise. Opening an
image on a local folder works fine.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1970800] Re: Clicking a calendar date in the bottom row of the panel calendar causes a graphical glitch

2022-06-11 Thread nany
Hello,

This bug affects me too.
If I try try to reproduce it few times by clicking on a day of the next month
and clicking on the day of today and re-clicking on a day of the next month,
etc. then the session crashes when I want to close the notifications (and
calendar) view.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1970291] Re: [nvidia] Secondary monitor performance is slow on an Nvidia hybrid system in Wayland sessions

2022-06-11 Thread Zingam
With:

1. Add this to /etc/environment: CLUTTER_SHOW_FPS=1

2. Reboot.

3. Watch the log: journalctl -f /usr/bin/gnome-shell

all sorts of values anywhere between 3.74 fps and 50fps when running
vkcube from the Vulkan SDK and around 30fps when playing YouTube in
Mozilla. I never saw 60fps (my monitor is capable of more than that).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1971338] Re: Activities overview / switching workspaces runs on low framerate (30fps) on NVIDIA + Wayland

Title:
Activities overview / switching workspaces runs on low framerate
  (30fps) on NVIDIA + Wayland

Status in Mutter:
  Unknown
Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
(Bug report can also be found on
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2247)

  Details:

  - Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
  - GNOME Shell 42.0
  - Bug happens on Wayland only
  - Dell XPS with i9-9980HK (using the GTX 1650 mobile, since gnome runs very
slow on integrated graphics)
  - NVIDIA driver version 510.60.02
  - Using internal monitor (4k) + two external 4k monitors

  Summary:
The activity overview / the process of switching workspaces runs at half the
normal framerate (30fps) when running NVIDIA on Wayland.

  Steps to reproduce:
  - Run Wayland and NVIDIA
  - Open activity overview or switch workspaces
  - Lament the framerate

  What I expected to happen:
I expect the overview and workspace switching process to run at the framerate
that matches the monitor refresh rate (60Hz).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1970291] Re: [nvidia] Secondary monitor performance is slow on an Nvidia hybrid system in Wayland sessions

2022-06-11 Thread Zingam
Thank you, Daniel,

very interesting info. I noticed some strange behavior/stats when moving
the terminal with the log between the internal and external displays.
Maybe it's normal but it felt weired.

The log output without the CLUTTER option yields this:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969896] Re: Evince Document Viewer(42.0) does not remember last page in 22.04 and opens in a tiny window when launched

2022-06-11 Thread renbag
I found that this bug is also present when you use a different desktop
environment (I'm using cinnamon).

Step to reproduce:

 - run a 22.04 CD image of a different ubuntu flavour in a virtual machine (I
tried xubuntu and kubuntu)
 - install evince
 - run evince from a terminal: (evince:5081): dbind-WARNING **: 05:32:50.298:
Couldn't connect to accessibility bus: Failed to connect to socket
/run/user/999/at-spi/bus_0: Permission denied
 - after disabling apparmor for evice all is OK
