[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1992267] [NEW] Incorrect alignment of labels in Wi-Fi properties popup

2022-10-08 Thread John D
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 22.10, in the Settings app, the labels in the IPv4 and IPv6 section
of the Wi-Fi popup (shown in screenshot) seems to be misaligned with its
corresponding entry boxes.
For example, under IPv4 section, 'Netmask' and 'Gateway' are not properly
aligned with the 2nd and the 3rd entry fields, and are above the same entry
field.
A similar case is also present under the IPv6 section as well.

I do not know whether this is a bug or not, but this was not the case in
earlier versions of Ubuntu, where the labels were perfectly aligned with
its corresponding entry boxes.

Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In the gnome-control-center, under Monitors->Night light, there is a
banner saying that night light is not available and "that may be the
result of the graphics driver or that you are using remote desktop"
(loosely translated from Spanish, see screenshot). None of that is
true and Night light worked fine before updating to 22.10 beta.

Moreover, night light was setup to activate at dusk before updating
and that seems to be working. It can even be toggled using the quick
  settings.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1990439] Re: gnome-remote-desktop-daemon not listen on IPv4.

When gnome-remote-desktop creates a listener for a backend, it will
listen on both IPv4 and IPv6. The command that you use here just does
not show it.

While reporting Bug #1973469, I discovered that ubuntu-bug was unable
to open Firefox at the very end of the process. Sadly, I closed the
terminal window that contained the initial error, but I was able to
easily reproduce it reporting this bug. The full console output of
"ubuntu-bug apport" on Lubuntu Kinetic is:

I am unsure if this problem is in Apport or Lubuntu. ubuntu-bug works
just fine for me on Ubuntu Kinetic, but not on Lubuntu. I suspect this
is due to the Snap version of Firefox, but I don't know for sure.
Since ubuntu-bug is what gave me the error, I'm filing this against

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1992263] [NEW] shell says I'm in airplane mode when I'm not

2022-10-08 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

My desktop has wired ethernet and I keep Bluetooth disabled when I'm not
using it for security reasons. Because of this the shell decides I'm in
"Airplane mode" and highlights the button in the system tray menu and
sticks the airplane mode icon in the system tray. Even if I turn
"airplane mode" back on it turns itself back on when I restart the
shell.

I'm not in "airplane mode" just because no wireless controllers are
currently in use. I'm in "airplane mode" when I tell the shell I want to
be in "airplane mode". Yes, absolutely, if I turn airplane mode on and
then subsequently turn wifi or bluetooth back on manually, airplane mode
should automatically shut off. But the opposite — automatically turning
*on* airplane mode whenever no wireless controllers are active — simply
should not be the case.

Title:
Cant upload files from remote folders : Firefox and Chrome

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I dont know if this is really a Nautilus bug.
In windows when we attach file in a webserver it opens "explorer" so I think
in Linux is more or less the same.

  Problem:
Upload file from a remote share to a Browser it does nothing, no error
nothing.

If I upload from the same share to Thunderbird and it uploads
  normally.

I noticed one thing, apparently the browsers uses a different
  "Nautilus" than Thunderbird.

Bug description:
System: Compaq Presario R3000 series notebook: AMD Athlon XP-M 3000+ 1.6GHz
single-core, 512MB RAM.
  Mixxx 1.7 branch.

Using the sound card directly, setting the latency to/from anything
lower than about 16 causes the GUI to hang, either right away (with
the console showing Debug: [Main]: request msec ## or after clicking
OK in the Prefs. Other times, the GUI will respond fine until you go
to play a track and it will hang there. Or it won't hang but it won't
play either, and when you try to close Mixxx, it hangs Debug: [Main]:
close soundmanager and has to be killed.

Same things happen with or without the use of pasuspender and with the
  real-time kernel and a non-RT one.

Status in gnome-text-editor package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

  --
The Ubuntu Desktop Team has a release goal of shipping GNOME 43 in its
entirety for Ubuntu 22.10. This was done for everything that GNOME released as
of GNOME 43 Release Candidate except for gnome-text-editor.

gnome-text-editor switched from a bundled copy of editorconfig-core to
using the system library. Upon noticing the dependency change, I
immediately began the Main Inclusion Process for that library. Some
upstream issues were detected during the review and it's not likely
that they will be fixed in time for Ubuntu 22.10.

Therefore, we are requesting a Feature Freeze Exception to upgrade
gnome-text-editor from 42 to 43 and add a patch to revert the
  unbundling commit.

Ubuntu Desktop is the only Ubuntu flavor that ships gnome-text-editor
  by default.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1991659] Re: crash open folder raccourci

2022-10-08 Thread Paul White
Alain, it's unclear to me the problem that you are reporting. As you
have said "When I want to open via my dock" I'm moving this bug report
to the Ubuntu dock package. Unfortunately you have not told us which
release or version of Ubuntu you are using.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

  apport-collect 1991659

It will help us understand the problem that you are seeing and tell us
which release of Ubuntu you are using. If you could also add some more
information to the bug description then that will help us too.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1326346] Re: Gedit crashes when unicode test page is pasted into new document

2022-10-08 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
review all reported bugs in a timely manner.

Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty) reached end-of-standard-support on April 25, 2019.

This release of Ubuntu is no longer receiving maintenance updates and
the last report of the issue was almost eight years ago.

Further to comment #5, I've tested this using Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04 and
have not seen gedit crash so I'm closing this as the problem seems fixed
in later releases of Ubuntu.

If anyone still sees an issue when using a currently supported release
of Ubuntu then please let us know.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1511900] Re: Preferences dialog missing in Gedit

2022-10-08 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
review all reported bugs in a timely manner.

Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty) reached end-of-standard-support on April 25, 2019.

I'm setting the status of this bug to 'Incomplete' as it's not seen any
activity for some time. If this is still an issue when using a currently
maintained release of Ubuntu then please let us know which one(s), and
the desktop environment being used, otherwise this bug report can be
left to expire in approximately 60 days time.

Title:
  Preferences dialog missing in Gedit

Status in gedit package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
The Edit->Preferences dialog is no longer accessible by default.

I managed to re-enable it following the hack outlined at
  http://askubuntu.com/questions/375049/where-are-gedits-preferences by
  running:

  gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xsettings
  overrides '@a{sv} {"Gtk/ShellShowsAppMenu": }'

However, by default, Gedit no longer seems to expose its preferences
dialog, which makes Gedit far less convenient to use. Please re-enable
  this feature by default.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1415893] Re: Scrollbar does not extend to the last pixel on the right when window is maximized

Title:
Scrollbar does not extend to the last pixel on the right when window
  is maximized

Status in gedit package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Disable the crappy overlay scrollbars in Ubuntu
  2. open some file in gedit long enough to ensure scrolling
  3. maximize the window
  4. move the mouse cursor all the way to the right of the screen
  5. click and drag up or down

Expected: should be moving the scrollbar

Observed: nothing happens. In order to grab the scrollbar you have to
move a little bit to the left, because the last pixel on the right
  does not belong to it.

In other words, the scrollbar fails to be "infinitely wide" when it
could (and hence should), making it painful to grab.

At first I thought this was generic to Ubuntu's scrollbars, but then I
have tried other programs (which seem to use the standard scrollbars
as far as I can tell) and they don't exhibit the issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1330241] Re: The "file changed on disk" alert does not show up unless you switch tab

2022-10-08 Thread Paul White
Reporter (who has several usernames) no longer uses Ubuntu.
Bug has not been confirmed by another user.

When using Ubuntu 22.04, gedit 41.0-3 I changed a file using
another text editor. When switching back to gedit I saw a
prompt indicating that the text file had changed. There was
no need to switch to another gedit tab and back again. Test
conducted successfully several times.

Closing as "Fixed Released" as this might have been an issue
with gedit some eight years ago when Unity was the desktop
environment.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1620128] Re: Keys that are held down for more than 1s repeat endlessly

2022-10-08 Thread Paul White
We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago
and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial) reached end-of-standard-support on April 29, 2021.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported when
using a currently supported version of Ubuntu? Please let us know if you
do otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days
time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.

Title:
Keys that are held down for more than 1s repeat endlessly

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm not sure how else to describe this than the title: keys that are
held down for more than 1s (as near as I can judge) repeat endlessly.
If I strike the 'n' key, I get one 'n'. If I hold it down for over
  one second, I get a never-ending stream of 'n's, until I press the 'n'
  key again.

Attached is the output of xev where I have run `xev > xev.log`, held
the 'n' key for approx 1.5 seconds, released it, waited approx 10
seconds, stuck the 'n' key quickly and then exited xev.

  The problem is not that keyboard events in general go missing;
keypress events are never missed and normal typing is fine. It is
only when a key is held down.

The defect appears to be in the X server, as the same problem does not
  happen on a text console.

The system is a Lenovo ThinkPad E560 running Ubuntu 16.04 with the
  stock kernel.

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I previously reported a X freeze and screen powering off bug over here
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1655803. I had
hoped that some of the fixes in newer mesa releases would fix it, but
alas I having the same problem on the latest x-staging mesa. After
15-30 minutes of activity (emacs, terminal, chrome) X freezes, the
screen turns disco colors, and the screen powers down. My machine is
usually completely hung (can't ssh in or ping), but I was able to ssh
in a collect a few logs (possible redundant, included below) this last
time. Thanks, I hope this helps.

Bug description:
If my keyboard layout was different from English (Russian, for example), and
the screen locks, then it stays in this nondefault layout and it may be changed
to English only with mouse. That is very unconvinient.
This behaviour appeared only in Ubuntu 14.04
I use the default desktop manager (I believe it is Unity) and the default
login manager (I believe it is LightDM).
It is not related only to my computer. A friend of mine also suffered from
this new behaviour since 14.04, and that was one of the reasons why he switched
to another distro.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1971475] Re: Ubuntu 22.04 snap firefox doesn't save downloads to /mnt subfolders

2022-10-08 Thread Paul White
This bug hasn't expired due to the bug watch.

The upstream bug was closed as "RESOLVED FIXED" on 2022-06-24

Testing here with Ubuntu 22.04, Firefox 105.0.3 (snap) and a
USB drive mounted to /mnt and not /media I'm not seeing the
issue as described in the bug description.

pnck, do you still see the problem that you reported five months

Bug description:
The problem started to appear 2 weeks ago after one of my daily
updates. It also happens after I re-install the system from a freshly
downloaded ISO file. The system freezes at the moment, it starts the
  gnome display manager.

I file the bug-report after a partial upgrade just before I will
reboot the system. If needed I can reboot in recovery mode, since the
gnome display manager is not started in that case.

I tried the continue button without effect and also "apt upgrade" and
"apt dist-upgrade" do have the same effect

I run the VM from the Host-OpenZFS file system, so I can restore to
before the update. Recently I use a Virtualbox snapshot to restore the
  system to before the update/upgrade.

If you need log files, let me know.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969315] Re: text in torrent info tabs change after opening it to gibberish

2022-10-08 Thread thom
as followup c.q. correction to #21:
After a good while without any problems, the bug is back again.
So I think it never went away but just wasn't triggered for a long period of
time.

In my logs, this is repeated over and over again:

invalid unclassed pointer in cast to 'GtkTreeModel'

  gtk_tree_model_iter_nth_child: assertion 'GTK_IS_TREE_MODEL (tree_model)'
failed
  gtk_widget_set_visible: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

invalid unclassed pointer in cast to 'GtkToggleButton'

  gtk_toggle_button_get_active: assertion 'GTK_IS_TOGGLE_BUTTON
(toggle_button)' failed
  gtk_widget_set_sensitive: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

invalid unclassed pointer in cast to 'GtkLabel'

  gtk_label_get_text: assertion 'GTK_IS_LABEL (label)' failed
  gtk_label_set_text: assertion 'GTK_IS_LABEL (label)' failed

Regarding this, I am pretty convinced that the first line is the reason for the
rest of the failures.

invalid unclassed pointer in cast to 'GtkTreeModel'

This hints to a declaration of a void pointer which is handed over
*uninitialized* to a GTK-object-something and therefore sometimes invalid and
sometimes not.
This kind of thing can go randomly wrong (actually depending on what's in
memory at that moment)
which would explain why the bug would sometimes pop up and sometimes not.

I can reasonably read and write "C" but I really can't wrap my head around any
GTK code.
I swear if I could understand GTK code, I would personally wholeheartily get to
the bottom of this.

I am unsure if this problem is in Apport or Lubuntu. ubuntu-bug works

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1992235] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2022-10-08 Thread Bruce Duncan
Public bug reported:

Updated to 22.10 beta last week.

When I return after screensaver activation, the display freezes.
Sometimes the greeter fades in a little bit, sometimes it is just the
background image. Every time, I can move the mouse and the cursor
changes when hovering over the password box (or where it would have
been). I can type my password and the session unlocks. I know this
because the greeter process is gone, and the mouse cursor now changes as
if it were my desktop (input boxes, buttons, etc) but the display still
has never updated.

This has happened about 5 times now, but reproducing it could be hard
because it only seems to happen after an idle period when the screen
locks itself. Manually locking/unlocking the screen works fine.
Switching off the monitors with "xset dpms force off" also doesn't seem
to trigger it.

There doesn't appear to be anything useful in the log files, but I think
apport has attached them anyway.

Happy to do any debugging necessary.

2022-10-08 Thread Alex Zander
Public bug reported:

Small delay when switching folders using nautilus 1:42.2-0ubuntu1. Mouse
crosshair has a clock-timer showing up. The delay is not very big, I
would estimate 0.2-0.3s on a fresh ubuntu upgrade install.

This delay however is not noticed using pcmanfm filemanager, or when I
installed flasharch (flash player) and used some nautilus-mod to browse
files within the app.

I have confirmed the bug to affect others in IRC libera chat #ubuntu

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1741074] Re: [snap] chrome-gnome-shell extension fails to detect native host connector

2022-10-08 Thread DONYHP
Got it friends. Follow the way: Synaptic + gdebi (install) Get to
the "www.myminfin.be" Download the eID-software. Back to gdebi to
install the software. Then "sudo apt update" After that back to Synaptic
to install them all: beid-mozilla-extension beid-mozilla- webext
eid-archive eid-mw eid viewerlibeidpkcs 11-0 libeidpkcs 11-bin
libeidviewer 0 That's all folks.

If the driver of the eid-viewer doesn't work: "sudo systemctl enable
pcscd" and then "sudo systemctl start pcscd.

Good luck! The launcher will be ready.

Bug description:
Ubuntu 22.04, GNOME desktop in Wayland mode, Tunderbird
102.2.2+build1-0ubuntu0.22.04.1. Ubuntu forces Thunderbird in Wayland.
  From /usr/bin/thunderbird

  # Enable native Wayland support (https://launchpad.net/bugs/1916469)
  export MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1

After update to 102 Thunderbird crashes every time system is resumed
from suspend to RAM. When removing MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND and tunning
Thunderbird under Xwayland there is no crash. Previous version did not
  crash either.
