Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

gnome-shell gets unceremoniously SIGKILLed on some Ryzen systems,
sometimes when the screen locks, sometimes when launching particular
  apps.

  [ Workaround ]

  Add this to /etc/environment:

    MUTTER_DEBUG_KMS_THREAD_TYPE=user

  and then reboot.

  [ Test Plan ]

Not all Ryzen systems (including one I just purchased) are able to
reproduce the bug. We have no choice but to leave final verification
to the community. Anyone affected should try locking their screen and
verify they are not instantly returned to the login screen.

[ Where problems could occur ]

Anywhere in frame scheduling and particularly for mouse cursor
movement since that's what the real-time thread exists to optimize.

  [ Original Description ]

I have this issue on Ubuntu 23.10. Lock screen works only with an external
monitor connected. Otherwise the session is ended and the user is logged out
and brought to the gdm screen.
  All works in xorg.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2038670] Re: Gnome crashes and forces logout.

2023-10-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2038783] [NEW] Exit code of locations mount script is not respecting error

2023-10-08 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]

When mounting an external location a script is used to get the current
default app for a type, its return error is parsed by the dock to
provide users a feedback, but the returned code is not valid in case of
error.

[ Test case ]

Run:
  gjs -m
/usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com/locationsWorker.js
/foo/bar/baz
  echo $?

An error should be shown and the return code should be 15

Doing instead

  gjs -m
/usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com/locationsWorker.js

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2038764] Re: Accentuation colour is blue instead of orange

2023-10-08 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
Unfortunately, the Thunderbird team has made the application
unthemeable. It doesn't use a standard GTK or libadwaita API. Therefore,
this is likely to not get fixed, but instead of closing it, I'm just
going to keep it in a quasi-open state as an "opinion".

Bug description:
Since newer thunderbird 115 ( on 22.04 LTS ) many parts of interface

I expect them to stay orange ( or any other colour ) as set in Ubuntu

Mozilla~TB~team already stated that they won't change that as it
  simplifies compatibility and maintenance.

They imply new themes are needed for TB to better integrate in DE.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1855736] Re: Duplicity fails to start

2023-10-08 Thread David
Hello,
I previously have this problem (with sudo), and solve it, I don't remember how.
Today the bug also here but it is strange, I use the ppa with the 2.1.2 and
duplicity folder on /usr/local/lib/python3.10/dist-packages/ is empty. So I
think the bug is link to that.
I have the same message write in bug description.

I try to build duplicity : https://gitlab.com/duplicity/duplicity
python3 setup.py install
It work but when I start backup I have a new error message : "Backups requires
at least version 0.7.14 of duplicity, but only found version 0.0.00"
The "duplicity --version" return "duplicity $version" so I found __init__.py in
/usr/local/lib/python3.10/dist-packages/duplicity and replace "__version__ =
'$version'" by "__version__ = '2.1.2'".
It work's.

Do you think it is really correct ?

How it could work without root ?

Can anybody look the problem and found another solution ?

Thanks in advance

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1971242] Re: printing PDF appears always grey, no color

Bug description:
After upgrading from 20.04 LTS to 22.04 LTS I can't print colored PDF
document. The print appears always b/w regardless color printing was
enabled or not. Printing from LibreOffice produces a color print. This
behavior (bug) is reproducible on three upgraded machines. It would be
nice to have color print back again.

  [ Impact ]

If the PPD file for a printer has a ColorModel option and the only
choice in it for printing in color is not named RGB but CMYK instead,
the printer cannot be made printing in color with intuitive methods,
usually selcting the color choice in the print dialog (which makes
ColorModel=CMYK be sent along with the job).

Only an ugly command-line-based workaround, running the command

  lpadmin -p PRINTER -o print-color-mode-default=color

makes the printer print in color.

An example for printers with such PPDs are printers from RICOH and OEM
(Lanier, InfoTec, Savin, ..), so many high-end color laser printers
  are affected.

  [ Test Plan ]

Remove the workaround if you had applied it:

  lpadmin -p PRINTER -R print-color-mode-default

If you have an affected printer, print a PDF file (or use the print
functionality in an application) with colored content and choose the
setting for color printing in the print dialog. When printing via
  command line do

  lp -d PRINTER -o ColorModel=CMYK FILE.pdf

Without the SRU applied you will get a grayscale/monochrome printout,
with it applied, you will get a colored printout.

  To test without a printer:

  Stop CUPS:

  sudo systemctl stop cups

Edit /etc/cups/cups-files.conf to have a line

  FileDevice Yes

  and start CUPS again:

  sudo systemctl start cups

Then create a queue using the attached sample PPD file:

  lpadmin -p color-test -E -v file:/tmp/printout -P Ricoh-
  PDF_Printer-PDF.ppd

Print a file to this queue as described above. When the job is done
("lpstat" does not show it any more), open /tmp/printout with a text
editor. Check whether it contains a line

  @PJL SET RENDERMODE=COLOR

near its beginning, and NOT a line

  @PJL SET RENDERMODE=GRAYSCALE

[ Where problems could occur ]

The patches are simple and they are also for some time in newer CUPS
versions (2.4.2 and newer) which are included in several distributions
(Ubuntu 22.10, 23.04, and others) and did not cause any complaints
about color printing. So the regression potential is very low.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2038764] [NEW] Accentuation colour is blue instead of orange

2023-10-08 Thread Coeur Noir
Public bug reported:

Since newer thunderbird 115 ( on 22.04 LTS ) many parts of interface use
blue as accentuation colour.

I expect them to stay orange ( or any other colour ) as set in Ubuntu
appearance settings.

Mozilla~TB~team already stated that they won't change that as it
simplifies compatibility and maintenance.

They imply new themes are needed for TB to better integrate in DE.

So the « bug » may sum up to :

missing Ubuntu~Yaru theme for Thunderbird ?

** Description changed:

Since newer thunderbird 115 ( on 22.04 LTS ) many parts of interface use
  blue as accentuation colour.

I expect them to stay orange ( or any other colour ) as set in Ubuntu
  appearance settings.

Mozilla~TB~team already stated that they won't change that as it
  simplifies compatibility and maintenance.

They imply new themes are needed for TB to better integrate in DE.

- So the « big » may sum up to :
+ So the « bug » may sum up to :

missing Ubuntu~Yaru theme for Thunderbird ?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2038727] Re: Chromium snap theme parsing error

2023-10-08 Thread Andy Jagoda
Sorry, it looks like results from "$snap connections chromium" lost
formatting in my previous post. Attached is a screen shot of the
terminal output

  Chromium snap theme parsing error

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Chromium Version 117.0.5938.149 (Official Build) snap (64-bit) not
following my GTK theme. Starting the Chromium snap from the terminal
  yields a theme parsing error:

  (chrome:95638): Gtk-WARNING **: 11:01:12.220: Theme parsing error:
gtk.css:1:0: Failed to import: Error opening file
  /home/aej/.local/share/themes/Adwaita_modified/gtk-3.0/gtk.css:
  Permission denied

Previous versions of the Chromium snap have not had this problem.
Debian 11 + XFCE. I have been running the chromium snap for about two
years without an issue like this on this system. I have reverted to
the previous version of the chromium snap.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2038727] Re: Chromium snap theme parsing error

2023-10-08 Thread Andy Jagoda
The "Theme parsing error" in the Bug Description appears to be a
permission error. The theme I am using is based on Adwaita. I copied
/usr/share/themes/Adwaita to
/home/aej/.local/share/themes/Adwaita_modified and modified the gtk-2.0
portion of the theme.
/home/aej/.local/share/themes/Adwaita_modified/gtk-3.0/gtk.css contains:

/* Adwaita is now part of GTK+ 3, this file is no longer used */
@import url("resource:///org/gtk/libgtk/theme/Adwaita/gtk-contained.css");

The results from $snap connections chromium:

As I stated in the Bug Description, this theme has never been a problem
for previous versions of the Chromium snap. As a workaround to this
issue I have added GTK_THEME=Adwaita to the Exec= line in the
application's .desktop file.
