[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2043538] Re: gnome-shell takes too much ram

2023-11-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Your log is being flooded with:

  ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com[2421]: unable to update icon for
multiload

which is also tracked as bug 1988791. So removing appindicators is the
first thing to try. The second thing is to remove other extensions.

Title:
  gnome-shell takes too much ram

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I had no memory problems with Ubuntu 20.04.
  After upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04, my 16GB laptop suffered from lack of memory.
  I upgraded to 48GB (!), and the memory still continues to fill.
  After a few days, with no program started, 12GB is taken. Gnome-shell alone
is taking 17.4% of my 48GB.
  I guess it is suffering from a memory leak.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1100190]

2023-11-23 Thread Qa-admin-q
Dear Philipp Gassmann,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open,
confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked
on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has
been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really
appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still
present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of
LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:
https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team

Title:
  [Upstream] I/O Error while opening file from WebDAV over GVFS from
  Nautilus

Status in LibreOffice:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Problem description:
  Error when opening a file from Nautilus with LibreOffice when the file is
WebDAV mounted with GVFS.

  The Same file can be opened from the same location from within
  LibreOffice, with the Open File Dialogue. Then you get asked for the
  Username and Password and Libreoffice seems to access the file
  directly over HTTP.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Mount a DAV Folder with Nautilus.
  URL in my Case:
dav://admin@10.1.10.58:8080/alfresco/webdav/Sites/puzzletest/documentLibrary/Alfresco%20WebDAV%20Test/
  2. Open a file with LibreOffice by doubleclick or context menu from Nautilus.
  4. Error occurs.
  Exact message:
  (-) «General input/output error while accessing /home/pgassmann/.gvfs/WebDAV\
als\ admin\ auf\ 10.1.10.58%3A8080/Sites/puzzletest/documentLibrary/Alfresco\
WebDAV\ Test/Neu.odt.» [OK]

  Working Variant:
  1. = 1. above
  2. Start LibreOffice
  3. Open File dialogue from LibreOffice
  4. Select the same file and click Open.
  5. LibreOffice Dialogue: "Authentication Required", Enter user name and
password for: "Alfresco DAV Server" on 10.1.10.58
  6. Enter Username and password, click OK
  7. File opens correctly

  LibreOffice Version:
  3.5.2-2ubuntu1

  Involved Software:
  LibreOffice, Nautilus, GVFS, Alfresco

  Current behavior:
  Opening file from Nautilus causes Error,
  Opening from LibreOffice Open File dialogue asks for credentials and works
correctly

  Expected behavior:
  Opening from Nautilus works.
  Opening from Open File dialog works without asking for credentials.

  Attachment: strace log from following actions:
  LANG=C libreoffice --strace
  successfully Open File from LibreOffice dialogue.
  Trying to open file from Nautilus.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2044420] Re: gtkpod segfaults when attempting to display songs

2023-11-23 Thread Phil Wyett
This is likely to see little attention for the following reasons:

* Not maintained/No viable upstream.
* Remove Request (RM) is active in Debian. [1]

This package is likely to be soon removed and I would advise looking for
an alternative to it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2044411] Re: retroeclairage ecran

2023-11-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Unfortunately we are unable to support this
system because your graphics packages are from the unsupported "oibaf"
PPA, which is known to cause bugs. Please remove that PPA from the
system and continue to report new bugs for any issues you find.

  Quassel opens "another" icon under Gnome

Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:

Status in quassel package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  I'm unsure if this is a bug in quassel, or in the gnome dock itself.
  Under Ubuntu 23.10 (mantic), running Quassel from a pinned icon on the
  left bar results in the pinned icon appearing "idle" (not running),
  and a second icon appearing below those that are pinned which
  apparently represents the running quassel instance.

  Pressing the idle quassel icon (or pressing the Super+4 shortcut for
  it) runs *another* instance of quassel rather than switching to the
  running instance. The "extra" icon also cannot be pinned (and
  occasionally strange "copies" of it are left lying around if one tries
  to drag it to the pinned icon locations).

  This may be because quassel is a Qt based application, but I also run
  KeepassXC (another Qt application) without such issues (other than
  unusual window borders and icons which appear on both applications),
  hence why I'm unsure this is an issue in quassel or in the gnome dock.
  I'll attach a screenshot demonstrating the issue.

Yep that's a leak.

Please start by disabling AppIndicators:

and then log in again. Does the bug still occur?

   * On Ubuntu Mate with the Lunar series, when running
     ubuntu-release-upgrader, the displayed font of running
     applications (including the upgrader) becomes very corrupted.

   * This is not just a display problem, it is also a functional one.
     The release upgrader will have text corrupted to the point
     where a dialog asks a decision, and displays two buttons, but the
     text is unreadable and one has to guess which button is the one
     that carries out their desired action.

   * In the early parts of the upgrader tool, users are told in bold:
     "To prevent data loss close all open applications and documents."
     This is just before the "Start Upgrade" button is available.
     But they may not do so. Many applications may have a corrupted
     font.

   * To address this, an additional environment variable is being
     passed along to pkexec, XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP, as this is the
     critical criteria for making the Mate version of the fix work.

   * Also in the change are
     * an update to tests
 * from pre-build.sh
       * an update of the mirrors.cfg, adding and removing several
 mirrors
       * a refresh of the po files

  [ Test Plan ]

   * acquire an Ubuntu Mate environment running Ubuntu Lunar on amd64

   * as user, run "update-manager -d"

   * monitor the "Distribution Upgrade" screen. During the "Installing
     the upgrades" step (and mind that this step will be long), observe
     the text of the "Distribution Upgrade" screen and verify that the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2034986] Re: some text became unreadable during a distribution upgrade

2023-11-23 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Summary for Mantic SRUs.

There are 3 LP bugs combined in mantic-proposed
(list sorted by package version so it's helpful).

1) Bug 2034986, used twice,

1A) First for 1:23.10.9, for 'fix v1':
* Temporary font for Ubuntu MATE (LP: #2034986)

It's released to mantic-updates with 1:23.10.10 (fix for
autopkgtests).

1B) Later for 1:23.10.11, for XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP:
* do-release-upgrade: pass XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP env var (LP: #2034986)

It's reverted in 1:23.10.12:
* Temporarily revert "do-release-upgrade: pass XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP env var"

and reapplied in 1:23.10.13:
* do-release-upgrade: pass XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP env var (LP: #2034986)

2) Bug 2039356, used for 'fix v2' in 1:23:10.12:
* Adjustments of unreadable text workaround (LP: #2039356)

3) Bug 2039172, used for an unrelated quirk:
* DistUpgradeQuirks: prevent upgrades on BIOS systems with XFS /boot (LP:
#2039172)

...

So, for verification, we have to consider 1:23.10.11 up to .14.

.11 doesn't need verification, as it's reverted in .12
.12 is verified (comment #65 / bug 2039356 comment #3)
.13 is not yet verified (comment #65, #66)
.14 is verified, but pending questions (bug 2039172 comment #9)

Thus, it seems what is pending for releasing mantic-proposed
is verification for .13 (that I'm happy to do synthetically),
plus a question for .14 (I'd be be happy to help, if needed).

  [ Where problems could occur ]

   * We are changing, at release time, ubuntu-release upgrader. If we
     are careless, we could regress upgrades for a wider group of users
     than just Ubuntu Mate. That said, it is believed that passing the
     additional XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP variable is relatively low risk.

  [ Other Info ]

   * TBD

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2043027] Re: Wacom Intuos S stop working after upgrading to Ubuntu 23.10

2023-11-23 Thread Valentin Svilenov Stoyanov
Hello,

Might I add, I experience the same issue. My machine is a Lenovo Yoga 7 14ARP8,
which is a 2-in-1 convertible. Issue was not present before I upgraded to 23.10
from 22.04.03. If I may augment the "handy details" above:
- I've no dedicated graphics card - AMD Radeon 680M integrated into the CPU;
- The issue persists on tablet mode (fully-folded backwards), laptop mode and
when wired to 1 or 2 monitors.

Even if it's an GNOME issue, I would really like to use it for the out-
of-the-box touchscreen gestures it offers right away.

Best,
Valentin

Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Tablet seems to work until I open Krita (as I could read on Internet,
  it may be related with Qt Apps).

  When Krita is open, mouse movement works ok with the tablet, but when
  it comes to click action it doesn't work and any further action with
  mouse is not captured (even outside Krita!).

  To regain control of the mouse I have to Alt+Tab and then I can click
  again.

  Some details that may be handy:
  - I've got two monitors
  - Maybe Qt apps related
  - My graphic card is nVidia GTX 1060 6Gb, driver used nvidia-driver-535

  Thanks for your effort. I love Ubuntu!

Title:
  [BPO] libreoffice 7.5.8 for jammy

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice source package in Jammy:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.5.8 is in its eighth and last bugfix release of the 7.5 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.5#7.5.8_release

   * This source packages matches the proposed SRU for lunar handled at
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/2041716

  [Scope]

   * Backport of
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/1:7.5.8-0ubuntu0.23.04.1

   * Backport target is Jammy/22.04 LTS releases to provide an official
  build of a more recent upstream version of LibreOffice

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
  unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
  (both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_75/1762/

    * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:
  * Automated tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Automated_Tests
  * Automated UI tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/UITests
  * Regression tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests
  * Feature tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests

   * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests
  that were run and verified as passing.

   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite
  were carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented
  by: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
  described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

  [SRU] libreoffice 7.5.8 for lunar

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice source package in Lunar:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.5.8 is in its eighth and last bugfix release of the 7.5 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.5#7.5.8_release

   * Version 7.5.7 is currently released in lunar. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.5.7 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.5.8
(that's a total of 21 bugs):
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.5.8/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.5.8/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs

   7.5.8 RC2 is identical to the 7.5.8 release

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
  the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU
  a minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
  unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
  (both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_75/1762/

   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

   * A minor release with a total of 21 bug fixes always carries the
  potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
  release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
  described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2041716] Re: [SRU] libreoffice 7.5.8 for lunar

2023-11-23 Thread Andreas Hasenack
I'm OK with releasing this one day short of the 7-day aging period. I
don't think there is any gain in waiting an extra day for this update.

Title:
  [SRU] libreoffice 7.5.8 for lunar

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice source package in Lunar:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.5.8 is in its eighth and last bugfix release of the 7.5 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.5#7.5.8_release

   * Version 7.5.7 is currently released in lunar. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.5.7 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.5.8
(that's a total of 21 bugs):
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.5.8/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.5.8/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs

   7.5.8 RC2 is identical to the 7.5.8 release

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
  the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU
  a minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
  unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
  (both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_75/1762/

    * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:

  Provide an option to avoid the yaml NM backend

Status in netplan.io package in Ubuntu:

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hi, recently netplan added support for a yaml NM backend:

  https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/call-for-testing-networkmanager-yaml-
  settings/32420

  The rationale is that "the descriptive YAML layer is especially useful
  in cloud environments":

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/merge_requests/556

  It's great that you care about that user group!
  Please also care for the rest of us that do not use cloud environments!

  For example, I routinely review, clone, backup or even directly edit
  the /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections files in my desktops and
  servers, in all distributions.

  Having an Ubuntu-specific way to do things will make things harder for
  me. I will have to learn a new Ubuntu-specific syntax, develop scripts
  and methods to convert my connections between distributions, I will
  need to discover and report bugs in the netplan <=> nm mapping etc...

  I.e. Ubuntu is great for the cloud, and it's awesome that you want to provide
a unified yaml-based experience for cloud-init etc.
  But Ubuntu is also great outside the cloud; please allow us to continue
having a unified experience between distributions (i.e. directly using nm or
systemd-networkd) without enforcing an Ubuntu-specific way of doing things
(netplan) to us.

  For Ubuntu 24.04+, please provide an option to avoid the yaml NM
  backend, thank you very much!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2044382] [NEW] Quassel opens "another" icon under Gnome

2023-11-23 Thread Dave Jones
Public bug reported:

I'm unsure if this is a bug in quassel, or in the gnome dock itself.
Under Ubuntu 23.10 (mantic), running Quassel from a pinned icon on the
left bar results in the pinned icon appearing "idle" (not running), and
a second icon appearing below those that are pinned which apparently
represents the running quassel instance.

Pressing the idle quassel icon (or pressing the Super+4 shortcut for it)
runs *another* instance of quassel rather than switching to the running
instance. The "extra" icon also cannot be pinned (and occasionally
strange "copies" of it are left lying around if one tries to drag it to
the pinned icon locations).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2044369] [NEW] [SRU] libreoffice 7.5.9 for lunar

2023-11-23 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * LibreOffice 7.5.9 is in its ninth and last bugfix release of the 7.5 line:
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.5#7.5.9_release

 * Version 7.5.8 is currently released in lunar. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.5.8 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.5.9
(that's a total of ? bugs):
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.5.9/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs

 7.5.9 RC1 is identical to the 7.5.9 release

 * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a
minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

[Testing]

 * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

  * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_75/1776/

  * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:
* Automated tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Automated_Tests
* Automated UI tests

* Regression tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests
* Feature tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests

 * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests that were
run and verified as passing.
Tested build can be found at
https://launchpad.net/~ricotz/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+sourcepub/15393334/+listing-archive-extra
* [amd64] ...
* [arm64] ...
* [armhf] ...
* [ppc64el] ...
* [riscv64] not available
* [s390x] ...
 * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

[Regression Potential]

 * A minor release with a total of ? bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
features were removed.

 * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as described
above should provide reasonable confidence that no regressions sneaked
in.

2:1snap1-0ubuntu1.22.04.1 is a non-native version number but of course
there is no upstream version, it would be a lot better to do this
correctly as a native package, like 2:1snap0ubuntu1.22.04.1

  This might make one think[1][2] that it will install a critically
  outdated Chromium while it does not, because it installs the snap.

  [Test plan]

  Install the package and confirm the version change with e.g.

  After a new install, on first boot, during the "Welcome" app progress
  through the panels, it throws an error, saying the Welcome app is

  Choosing wait, it recovers and goes on.

  To reproduce, install with any (working) script option. Happens during

  I expect gdm and the shell to be responsive but they freeze forcing me to
reboot. Sometimes I'm able to use them but it takes some time to load.

  After taking a look at the journal, I see lots of messages like this:

2023-11-23 Thread Pierrick
I'm having a similar issue, mentioned as duplicate of this bug report.

Whenever I go beyond 50% brightness it freezes with:

The offending signal was notify on Gjs_status_backlight_SliderItem

Same happens when booting if the value is above 50%.

I found this: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/7001

And it looks like when I play with keyboard backlight (it's a MacBook

I think the next step is to monitor dbus to find out what is causing:

  g-properties-changed on GDBusProxy

because it looks like the volume of events is the issue.

** Summary changed:

- Lots of error message filling disk
+ gnome-shell freezes while flooding the log with: Attempting to call back into

g-properties-changed on GDBusProxy ...
