[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1875015] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 and Displaylink is extremely slow

Was using displaylink without any problem on 19.10 until yesterday, when I upgraded to 20.04. It is terrific. If i plug out the usb for the displaylink docking station, than the speed is back, and the system is ok, if I connect it to the docking station again, everything extremely slow again. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1860930] Re: [Asus GX531GX] Internal speakers are sometimes noisy - bad audio
The distorted audio problem just came back. I think it has something to do with this system being dual boot (Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04). When I only use Ubuntu there is no problem. As soon as I stop using Windows and reboot to Ubuntu the noise comes back. I was previously using 19.04 and 19.10 on this device and never experienced this kind of issue. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1838577] Re: Default audio device changes on reboot; audio still outputs using my previously-selected device
I have the same issue when I boot up with my USB headphone plugged in. The sound output defaults to the USB headphone, the volume controller controls its volume. However the sound comes from the internal speaker as I expect it to do. If I change the sound output device to the internal speakers then the sound controller works fine until I reboot. After reboot everything starts over again. If I don't have the USB headphones plugged in during boot then this issue doesn't happen. I have an Asus Zephyrus S GX531GX laptop and a pair of Asus Delta USB headphones. 19.10 and 20.04 both have this issue. ** Tags added: fecal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1838577 Title: Default audio device changes on reboot; audio still outputs using my previously-selected device Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: This is present in Ubuntu 18.04, 18.10, 19.04, and 19.10 daily build. It was not present in Ubuntu 16.04. I have a USB microphone which also appears to pulse as a speaker. Pulse keeps picking it as the default audio device. I can switch audio devices to my analog line out, which works as expected until I reboot. After reboot, my audio device switches back to the USB "speaker", and Gnome shell / Gnome settings volume control adjusts the USB speaker volume. Despite seeing the USB device as the current output device, I still hear sound from my line-out. In the interest of narrowing down this bug, I have found that disabling "module-switch-on-connect" fixes the problem (my line-out stays as the default audio device and I hear sound). I haven't had this problem for some time now. Maybe there was an update that fixed it? There is unusual Network activity during that time. The light of the WiFi adapter is blinking a lot. I am not sure the problem is with the gdm3 package. As a matter of fact, I would remove it and let someone more experienced to set it. I'm afraid I might break something, though. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem: 1. Boot Ubuntu 18.10 with the Nvidia proprietary drivers installed. The behavior you expected: I expected Ubuntu 18.10 to boot normally. The behavior you actually encountered: The computer gets stuck in a command-like environment with the last message being "started bpfilter". You can't type any commands. I have found that uninstalling the Nvidia proprietary drivers by going into recovery mode fixes the issue. Booting with the earlier kernel doesn't fix the issue. Neither my blueman applet nor the built-in bluetooth manager applet can connect my external bluetooth speaker to the A2DP profile. They can connect to the bluetooth device itself just fine. Steps I'm using: * using blueman, I can connect to the external bluetooth speaker and view the device in the devices listing * I can connect the device to the Audio sink and I get a message saying it is now connected and will "show in the PulseAudio mixer" * After connecting the external speaker to the audio sink, I can also see the device in the "Play sound through" listing in the Sound system control panel, but the icon has a circle with a line through it. * but if I right-click the device and choose "Audio Profile" from the context menu and try to select "High Fidelity Playback (A2DP)" as the new profile, I get an error message stating "failed to change profile to a2dp" I've already added "Enable=Socket" in /etc/bluetooth/audio.conf, without that I can't pair my headset. Now I can pair it, but I can't activate the A2DP profile. When I try to activate it, I see this message in my syslog : pulseaudio[2603]: [pulseaudio] module-bluetooth-device.c: Profile has no transport I tried the kernel 3.9.0 because of a sound problem with my soundcard, this kernel fixed my soundcard problem, but A2DP still doesn't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bluez/+bug/1181106/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I don't think it can be expected by the Ubuntu developer team to change the behaviour of each software to make them foolproof in guest mode. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 435930 Guest session does not warn about temporary nature of files -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290507 Title: Firefox Should Not Prompt for Password Save in Guest Session Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop When using the guest session in Intrepid, Firefox prompts users if they want to save their passwords on websites. This is a problem for two reasons: 1. The passwords are only saved for that session (this is good, though a different impression is given by the offer to save passwords) 2. Alice logs in as a guest, saves a password in firefox, and then switches the session to Bob without logging out. Then Bob lets Joseph use the guest session by switching him to it, Joseph has access to the password that Alice saved previously. To solve this, the new user dialog would have a boolean checkbox (defaulted to un-checked), which asks if this new user's home directory should be created. Talk to mpt about the wordsmithing. If checked, then you need to add --encrypt-home to the 'adduser' invocation. Before running adduser, you'd also need to ensure that ecryptfs-utils is installed. For real security, you would also need to run (as root) ecryptfs- setup-swap, which would encrypt the user's swap space. This is necessary, as any files/data that gets swapped out to disk could be written in the clear, thereby circumventing the user's requested encryption. Further note that if swap is encrypted, hibernation should be disabled (suspend continues to work just fine). I'm trying to delete huge (10-20 gigs) files from a samba share but it always fails for the first try: username@hostname:/run/user/1000/gvfs/smb-share:server=192.168.1.1,share=download$ rm -r Testdir/ rm: cannot remove ‘Testdir/13gigs-Testfile.mkv’: Input/output error username@hostname:/run/user/1000/gvfs/smb-share:server=192.168.1.1,share=download$ rm -r Testdir/ username@hostname:/run/user/1000/gvfs/smb-share:server=192.168.1.1,share=download$ rm -r Testdir/ rm: cannot remove ‘Testdir/’: No such file or directory username@hostname:/run/user/1000/gvfs/smb-share:server=192.168.1.1,share=download$ The same thing is happening if I use Nautilus. This is bugging me a lot because I'm always having a hard time deleting stuff. My quess is that the deletion process times out too early so it doesn't have enough time to delete such big files. The printer freezes right after I try to print something. The original report is bug #1053443. [Impact] Several PostScript printers do not work with the PostScript generated by Ghostscript but do not have problems with the PostScript from Poppler. In 14.04 the auto-switching to Poppler for these cases is missing, making printers from Brother, Minolta, Konica Minolta, and old HP LaserJets misbehave. Some Konica Minolta even crash and need to get turned off and turned on again. [Test Case] Print on any Brother, Minolta, Konica Minolta, or old HP LaserJet with Ubuntu 14.04.
