[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1073103] Re: Unity panel not showing proper notifications count
The Unity launcher API seems to be working fine in my localized testing. This seems like an issue with Thunderbird and Empathy. ** Also affects: empathy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1073103 Title: Unity panel not showing proper notifications count Status in Unity: New Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since I installed 12.10, the unity panel is not showing notifications count properly, e.g. unread conversations for empathy, new emails for thunderbird. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1039762] Re: freeze during Quantal install with USB non persistent key
There's a way to work around this. First, search for the pid of all running X server instances using the command: ps aux | grep /usr/bin/X Choose the pid of the X process, and then: sudo kill PID where PID is the pid found on the first step. Now, run sudo lightdm, and you get to a live session with Unity. ** Also affects: lightdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1039762 Title: freeze during Quantal install with USB non persistent key Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I downloaded this iso: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20120821/quantal-desktop-amd64.iso for installing Quantal on a second partition of my PC to carry out some tests, but during boot of the non persistent USB key (created with Startup disk creator) the boot of the USB key stalls. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 939224] Re: Places menu / Nautilus side-bar ignores xdg-user-dirs
This is a bug in GNOME libraries, and not ubuntu/unity, which is why John un-marked it from Ayatana Design earlier ** Also affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: unity Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/939224 Title: Places menu / Nautilus side-bar ignores xdg-user-dirs Status in Unity: Invalid Status in “gtk+3.0” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Why does Ubuntu/Nautilus/Gnome not use the xdg-user-dirs info? I have a separate /data partition where my personal info is stored, but I allowed Ubuntu to set up its /home directory within / so that if/when I install newer Ubuntu versions or other Linux distros, the app data specific to that installation will not conflict with that of other distros/versions. I have set up xdg-user-dirs to point at my /data partition directories for documents, photos, etc. However, when I select the Places menu, only the /home/scott installed documents/photos/etc. directories show up. I must select Computer, then when the window finally comes up (why is everything so slow now?), I can see my directories listed under the Computer heading, but the other non-used directories are listed first, under Bookmarks. While it is possible that once in a while, I might want to access the configuration files or whatever that apps would store in /home/scott, having the directories under /home/scott the only ones visible from the main Places menu, and the ones given pride-of-place in the Nautilus side-bar seems not to make much sense. I also take issue with the fact that other partitions that I mounted from /etc/fstab so that I could have easy access to them do not come up in either the main Places menu or in the Nautilus side-bar, but are accessible only by clicking on “File System”, and then on the individual directories in / that fstab sets up. This includes my /data partition. Not only that, but two partitions that have nothing in them, and are not mentioned in fstab ARE available in the main Places menu AND in the Nautilus side-bar (each as “17 GB File System”). This same behavior is evident when one uses the “SaveAs” or “Save-A-Copy” from Evince, Gedit, LibreOffice Writer, Eye-Of-Gnome, etc. (In fact, I get the impression from the similarity in windows that appear when the save request is made, that there is some universal (Gnome?) requester that all(?) apps use/modify to save data): my personal directories in /data are nowhere to be seen, the /home directories elsewhere christened “Bookmarks” are there, and the two unused partitions are there also. Surely this behavior is nonsensical – stuff that should be easily accessible, isn't; stuff that is shouldn't be accessible at all (for ordinary use), is... The purpose of xdg-user-dirs is to REPLACE the original photos/downloads/etc. locations, so one should expect to see the directories in (in my case) /data/scott, in Places and Nautilus side-bar, and NOT see the directories in /home/scott. I am sure that somebody will tell me how to “fix” this issue, and I will be happy to accept and implement such advice, but why was this set up this way in the first place, and if incorrect, why has it not been fixed...? I am using Ubuntu 11.10, and usually use Gnome Classic (Fallback Session?), but the same thing seems to occur in Unity and Gnome-Shell (and I believe Englightenment). [I have since read that one can access a Places style menu in Unity by moving the mouse up to the top bar, but I have not tested this out yet to see what it shows - I suspect it will show the same info as for Classic Gnome's Places menu...] -Scott To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/939224/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 986269] Re: Unable to open a folder for 10 GB Filesystem, No application is registered as handling this file... or Nautilus pops browser when partition is mounted in bash scr
** Project changed: unity = nautilus (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/986269 Title: Unable to open a folder for 10 GB Filesystem, No application is registered as handling this file... or Nautilus pops browser when partition is mounted in bash script Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I first noticed this behaviour in Ubuntu 11.10. When I run my bash script that mounts partitions on my hard drive (e.g /dev/sda5), Nautilus pops up with a browser window. This is an illogical action, since I've not 'inserted a drive', it's already there, and it's just been manually mounted. This Nautilus action will interfere with the scripts operation since, when the script tries to unmount the drive (rapidly) it finds that Nautilus is still busy with it, producing it's browser window. If I run chmod 700 on the mountpoint prior to mounting (root only access), then I get a popup message stating: Unable to open a folder for 10 GB Filesystem, No application is registered as handling this file. This is because the mountpoint is not accessible to the logged in user. You wouldn't expect this if you mount a partition from the terminal - and for the most part this is correct (Nautilus does nothing), but not all the time. I've managed to trigger Nautilus to pop just with a simple terminal mount. I have a workaround in my bash script that creates a udev rule and runs udevadm trigger to hide the partition, but this seems extreme. I believe it's a bug in Unity(?) (maybe Nautilus?) in how it responds to the signal that a partition has been mounted. Please see this for complete details and discussion of possible solutions (and the bash script code): http://askubuntu.com/questions/121569/prevent-nautilus-showing- partition-mounted-in-bash-script I understand you can prevent Nautilus responding to inserted drives etc., but this is definitely not the case here - the drive is already there, just the partition is being mounted. Yeah, it definitely seems like a Unity crash. In that case, do you have any .crash files for compiz in /var/crash? If so, can you run the command apport-bug /var/crash/NAME_OF_CRASH_FILE.crash and file a new bug report for it? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 925014] Re: Purchased items are not being added to the Unity launcher
As decided between Gary and me, it's architecturally not possible to send the icon flying to the launcher before installation, for two reasons: 1) We don't have a desktop file to feed BAMF on, and 2) The icon is not stored locally, but rather generated from the server. It would be possible to fix it and still allow icons to be sent to the launcher before installation, but that would mean basing the icon on a different desktop file and modifying the icon/name to that of the app. Also, SC would have to store the icon in /tmp or somewhere so that Unity can read it. And, the icon's UpdateDesktopFile could be called to change the desktop file on-the-fly to prevent any duplication issues in the launcher. Rather, we've decided on an alternative solution for a Precise SRU: Send icons AFTER installation is complete. That would need a few one-line changes on the Unity side, which are part of the linked branch which I'm proposing for the next SRU. Meanwhile, Gary is working on the SC side (thanks a lot for that!) ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = In Progress ** Also affects: unity Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: unity Status: New = In Progress ** Changed in: unity Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: unity Milestone: None = 5.14.0 ** Changed in: unity Assignee: (unassigned) = Bilal Akhtar (bilalakhtar) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/925014 Title: Purchased items are not being added to the Unity launcher Status in Unity: In Progress Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: Ubuntu Software Center 5.1.14.1, the Precise Pangolin, beta 2 Unity 5.8.0-0ubuntu2 Bug Description: Update: With the most recent version of Unity, 5.8.0-0ubuntu2, and Software Center version 5.1.14.1, *no* purchased apps are being installed to the Unity launcher upon installation. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 992997] [NEW] Mic works, but not shown in sound settings
Public bug reported: My laptop's internal mic is detected by PulseAudio, which can be verified from pavucontrol. I can also set the volume of the mic from pavucontrol. But the mic doesn't appear in sound settings. The input tab is empty, even though it used to show my mic until Precise RC, at least. The mic, however, still works fine in all the apps I tried. But if I have to modify the volume/mute the mic, I need to use pavucontrol, since system settings doesn't work (see screenshot). I'm sure the problem lies with control center or gnome-media, since the mic shows up in pavucontrol. I'm running the Unity session, on Precise with the latest updates.
