[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2021948] Re: New bugfix release 23.0.4

Timo, may I ask why it's not released on Jammy if the verification is
done?

Title:
  New bugfix release 23.0.4

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in mesa source package in Jammy:
  Fix Committed
Status in mesa source package in Lunar:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

This is the last point-release of the 23.0.x-series, we should put it
in lunar so latest bugfixes would get there, and in jammy for 22.04.3
  image.

We'll include an additional bugfix (a revert) to fix GPU hangs on some
  AMD gpu's running certain games.

  [Test case]

Install the updates, test desktop use and some basic games etc on at
  least AMD and Intel hw.

  [Where things could go wrong]

It's possible that some apps (like games) might regress on some hw,
but there should not be a big risk for more wider bugs appearing in
this update, since upstream and vendor (Intel) CI machinery have
  tested these.

As per description it looks like this bug is also about backporting to Jammy.
Should Jammy need to be added to the Affects table?

Mesa 12.0.6 - multiple important fixes, stable branch

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:

Status in mesa source package in Xenial:

Status in mesa source package in Yakkety:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Mesa 12.0.5 is now available as a point release in the stable branch. Mesa
has MRE for these.

The release contains multiple fixes amongst which:
The nouveau vdpau driver performance has been restored. The wayland-egl
module no longer crashes if the user calls eglDestroySurface and
wl_egl_window_destroy in the "wrong" order. libEGL correctly advertises
the EGL platforms available. Multiple fd leaks were addressed, which
could prevent rmmod of devices such as the DisplayLink drivers. Radeonsi
has gained noticeable performance by disabling ReZ. Interop between third
party OpenCL implementations and mesa's libGL/libEGL is back online...
  and many more.

  Full changelog:
  https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/mesa-dev/2016-November/135027.html

I am particularly interested in the RadeonSI performance boost:
  https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/mesa-dev/2016-October/131759.html
In real-world tests the boost is about 20% (Yay!) :

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item=Mesa-Post-ReZ-Change-Benchmarks

  [Test case]
Run the default desktop and maybe a game or two.

This release has been tested on xenial by the certification team on a set of
machines, covering:
  Intel Haswell
  Intel Broadwell
  Intel Skylake
  AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5430/5450/5470

and they all passed the tests.

Once this is in -proposed, the community will be asked to test it on a
  wider range of devices.

  [Regression potential]
yakkety: the release consists of cherry-picks from master, specifically
selected as bugfixes. Regression potential should be low.

xenial: it's a bigger bump for xenial, but since yakkety already ships
with this series the risk should be low

Chris, why the update was released only for Xenial?
Please do the same for Yakkety.

Mesa 12.0.6 - multiple important fixes, stable branch

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in mesa source package in Xenial:
  Fix Released
Status in mesa source package in Yakkety:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Mesa 12.0.5 is now available as a point release in the stable branch. Mesa
has MRE for these.

The release contains multiple fixes amongst which:
The nouveau vdpau driver performance has been restored. The wayland-egl
module no longer crashes if the user calls eglDestroySurface and
wl_egl_window_destroy in the "wrong" order. libEGL correctly advertises
the EGL platforms available. Multiple fd leaks were addressed, which
could prevent rmmod of devices such as the DisplayLink drivers. Radeonsi
has gained noticeable performance by disabling ReZ. Interop between third
party OpenCL implementations and mesa's libGL/libEGL is back online...
  and many more.

  Full changelog:
  https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/mesa-dev/2016-November/135027.html

I am particularly interested in the RadeonSI performance boost:
  https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/mesa-dev/2016-October/131759.html
In real-world tests the boost is about 20% (Yay!) :

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item=Mesa-Post-ReZ-Change-Benchmarks

  [Test case]
Run the default desktop and maybe a game or two.

This release has been tested on xenial by the certification team on a set of
machines, covering:
  Intel Haswell
  Intel Broadwell
  Intel Skylake
  AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5430/5450/5470

and they all passed the tests.

Once this is in -proposed, the community will be asked to test it on a
  wider range of devices.

  [Regression potential]
yakkety: the release consists of cherry-picks from master, specifically
selected as bugfixes. Regression potential should be low.

xenial: it's a bigger bump for xenial, but since yakkety already ships
with this series the risk should be low

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1641017] Re: Mesa 12.0.5 - multiple important fixes, stable branch

2017-01-12 Thread Boaz Dodin
Timo - it looks like the packages been built and tested weeks ago in
your ppa.

May I ask what are we waiting for?

As per regression potential, I suggest to release it now for Yakkety,
and after several weeks of wider use without new issues, release to
Xenial.

1. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise) is supported till 2017.
http://www.canonical.com/content/ubuntu-1204-feature-extended-support-period-desktop-users
2. 3.5.7 is EOL since 8/11/2012
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan#End_of_Life_Releases
3. Newer versions (than 3.5.7) successfully compiled for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
(Precise) for a long time, partially by me and mostly by Rico Tzschichholz.
https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice
https://launchpad.net/~ricotz
4. 4.1.x series packages downloaded more than 13,000 times from the 4.1.x PPA.
In other words - it's been tested daily by thousands of real users.
https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/libreoffice-4-1
indicator-ppa-download-statistics, https://launchpad.net/~thebernmeister
5. 4.1.4 released yesterday is the first version also suggested for corporate
deployments.
http://blog.documentfoundation.org/2013/12/18/the-document-foundation-announces-libreoffice-4-1-4/

As per all above facts, my suggest is to SRU 4.1.4 version after about a
month of testing on 4.1.x PPA.

Title:
[SRU] LibreOffice 4.1.3 for Ubuntu 12.04 (precise)

Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix
Status in “libreoffice” package in Baltix:
  New

Bug description:
LibreOffice on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise) is very buggy comparing to current
(4.1.3) release from Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy).
LibreOffice packages on Ubuntu 12.04 urgently needs an update to latest
supported release 4.1.3 (or newer) for quite a set of critical fixes.

  [IMPACT]
3.5.7 is End of Life since November, 2012!
   Look at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan#End_of_Life_Releases
   * https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/3.6
   * https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/4.0
   * https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/4.1

A very large number of bugs have been fixed since 3.5.7, far too many to
attempt an accurate listing; even counting them accurately is difficult.
However a reasonable estimate is around three thousand bugs just in 4.1
release!

Lots of people still uses Ubuntu LTS release and since end of 2012 they are
forced to search correctly working LibreOffice packages.
Some of them installs LibreOffice from upstream deb files - this way is very
hard for majority users :(
  Other users finds https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/libreoffice-4-1
and updates LibreOffice from ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-4-1 repo, but this is
also not easy way - why LTS users can install supported and up to date Firefox
and Chromium like usual updates, but can't install supported and up to date
LibreOffice software?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1066529] Re: All jobs stopped, epson_inkjet_printer_filter failed

2013-05-25 Thread Boaz Dodin
After an update to cups 1.5.3-0ubuntu8 and installation of the just released
PC-FAX Driver 1.0.0 from here:
http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/du/02/DriverDownloadInfo.do?LG2=ENCN2=DSCMI=22162DSCCHK=d925d1458a086f13e41b4d498db14fae21da522f
my printer refuses to print again, exactly as the original issue.

Removing the fax package, removing the printer driver and installing the
printer driver once again does not resolve the problem.

Will appreciate any help.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1082941] Re: Duplex printing in LibreOffice not working

2013-01-31 Thread Boaz Dodin
Same here:
Kubuntu 12.04 64bit
LibreOffice 3.6.5
Epson WF-7520
epson-inkjet-printer-201115w_1.0.1-1lsb3.2_amd64 driver.

I have a feeling that LibreOffice ignoring some of the driver properties and
just use some defaults instead.
For example, I just printed the same document twice - fast economy and
quality, and the output was exactly the same.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1066529] Re: All jobs stopped, epson_inkjet_printer_filter failed

2012-12-07 Thread Boaz Dodin
Print queue removed.
Driver uninstalled.
USB cable of the printer unpluged and re-pluged.

dpkg -l | grep epson - no output at all.

system-config-printer
The program 'system-config-printer' is currently not installed. You can
install it by typing:
apt-get install system-config-printer-gnome

The above result probably because of the fact I am on Kubuntu.

An additional info I am not sure the reason of - via the cups interface
and via system settings - printer configuration, the printer
appears still with old driver info.

dpkg -l | grep epson
ii epson-inkjet-printer-201115w 1.0.0-1lsb3.2
EPSON WF-7010 Series - Epson Inkjet Printer Driver

Till, may I ask where did you find the 1.0.1 version of Epson driver?

The official download page below still offer the old 1.0.0 version:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1066529] Re: All jobs stopped, epson_inkjet_printer_filter failed

2012-12-07 Thread Boaz Dodin
Now, the print job added to the cups interface in stopped state.
Also the printer doesn't do any anything (no sound at all) after printing
document.
The On light not blinking.

Before the last changes it was different - the printer do sounds, like
it's going to start print (maybe some self tests) and then the original
error was appeared. The On light was blinking until powering off.

I think that I uploaded really enough debug info (although part of this

2012-10-21 Thread Boaz Dodin
After submitting earlier today an on-line support form about this issue on the
Epson USA site, I just received this reply:
Please be advised that we do not support our printers with the type of
operating system that you're using. Linux drivers for Epson products are
supplied by Avasys Corporation.
Note: Neither Epson nor Avasys provide support for Linux drivers.

Just to clarify my current state - I can't print from my Kubuntu.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1066529] [NEW] All jobs stopped, epson_inkjet_printer_filter failed

2012-10-14 Thread Boaz Dodin
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu 12.04.1 64bit
Cups 1.5.3-0ubuntu4
EPSON WF-7520 - epson-inkjet-printer 1.0.0-1lsb3.2 - the last driver from Epson.
Connected via USB.

The printer just stopped to print - every job added in stopped state and this
error:
/opt/epson-inkjet-printer-201115w/cups/lib/filter/epson_inkjet_printer_filter
failed

The printer screen says Printing endless.

Will happy to provide additional info to resolve this issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 819156] Re: regression: totem do not disables screensaver

2012-03-11 Thread Boaz Dodin
I don't think it's relevant to totem.

I am on Kubuntu 11.10 64bit, KDE 4.8.1
kubuntu-low-fat-settings installed.
All power saving and screen saver options disabled.

It's looks like something enabling PDMS, as even after disabling it by
sh file with xset -dpms, executed on every startup, it returned back
after about 2 hours to enabled state.

With ubuntu 11.10 totem can't disable screensaver, or may be dpms. This is

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 862139] Re: xset q reports DPMS mode with time 600 regardless of what g-c-c setting

2012-03-11 Thread Boaz Dodin
Same issue stil exist on my Kubuntu 11.10 64bit, KDE 4.8.1
kubuntu-low-fat-settings installed.
All power saving and screen saver options disabled.

Is it only GNOME related issue?
AFAIK, I have only GNOME MPlayer installed on my Kubuntu - is this the trigger
for it?

Bug description:
Regardless what setting I use in gnome-control-centers display capplet, my
screen turns off after 10min.
It turns out that DPMS is used:

  $ xset q
  DPMS (Energy Star):
Standby: 600Suspend: 600Off: 600
DPMS is Enabled
Monitor is On

But I don't turn this on myself. Changing the settings in the control-
center does not change this value in any way.
