[Desktop-packages] [Bug 647521] Re: Xorg crash leading to low graphics mode after several suspends
Christopher, the laptop that I reported this bug for broke a little while back. I now use a newer Ubuntu release with a different laptop and no longer experience this bug. Given that nobody else has contributed to this bug report and I no longer experience this bug, I would be more than happy to have it closed. Thank you for your help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/647521 Title: Xorg crash leading to low graphics mode after several suspends Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Binary package hint: xorg After an uptime of 1d 19h and several suspends/resumes (approx 7 or 8), the screen flickered 7 times before an error dialogue was displayed stating the following: Ubuntu is running in low graphics mode Your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1241150] [NEW] USB sound card not detected following suspend
Public bug reported: This is a recent bug, all worked perfectly until the last week or so. I have USB-powered speakers (Altec Lansing XT1) which prior to suspending work fine. I can unplug them and plug them back in and they still appear as an option in Sound Settings... Following suspending and resuming, they no longer appear in Sound Settings... even if they are unplugged before suspending and plugged back in following resuming. Logging out and back in does not solve the issue, and, so far, the only way of getting the speakers to work is to reboot. What I expect to happen: the speakers to appear in Sound Settings... and to be able to play audio through them. This was the previous behaviour. What actually happens: following resuming from suspend, I cannot select my USB speakers through Sound Settings... despite the light on the speakers switching on. I have to reboot my computer before I can select them in the Sound Settings... menu once again. lsb_release: Ubuntu 12.10 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: alsa-base 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu3.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-41.64-generic 3.5.7.21 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-41-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu12 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: andrew 6084 F pulseaudio Date: Thu Oct 17 19:52:52 2013 InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-11-25 (326 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Release amd64 (20121017.5) MarkForUpload: True PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: alsa-driver Symptom: audio Title: USB sound card not detected UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 08/24/2012 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: P02ABE dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: NP350V5C-A0AUK dmi.board.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. dmi.board.version: BOARD REVISION 00 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 9 dmi.chassis.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. dmi.chassis.version: 0.1 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvrP02ABE:bd08/24/2012:svnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:pn350V5C/350V5X/350V4C/350V4X/351V5C/351V5X/351V4C/351V4X/3540VC/3540VX/3440VC/3440VX:pvrP02ABE.005.CP:rvnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:rnNP350V5C-A0AUK:rvrBOARDREVISION00:cvnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:ct9:cvr0.1: dmi.product.name: 350V5C/350V5X/350V4C/350V4X/351V5C/351V5X/351V4C/351V4X/3540VC/3540VX/3440VC/3440VX dmi.product.version: P02ABE.005.CP dmi.sys.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. ** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug quantal running-unity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1241150 Title: USB sound card not detected following suspend Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This is a recent bug, all worked perfectly until the last week or so. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1160045] [NEW] GPU hangs, error messages and several instances of apport-gtk running
Public bug reported: From the updates around last Friday or Saturday, I now get repeated dialogue boxes with System program problem detected and Sorry, Ubuntu 12.10 has experienced an internal error. The executable path in the latter error is /usr/share/apport/apport-gpu-error-intel.py. several instances of apport-gtk run in the background maxing out the CPU but nothing ever happens - I had to submit this error bug using ubuntu-bug. This bug may be related to Bug #1073626 or bug #1140716. I'm reporting this as a distinct bug as unlike the former bug, I do see brief freezes (for instance, in scrolling Firefox windows) and the gpu hangs appear to be genuine prior to the dialogue boxes being displayed, and unlike the latter, rolling back to a previous kernel version does not solve the problem. Please accept my apologies if this behaviour is related to one of the bugs above. Ubuntu release: 12.10 What I expected to happen - no gpu hangs, no repeated dialogue boxes and apport-gtk to do something. What happened instead: frequent gpu hangs, repeated dialogue boxes and several instances of apport-gtk running whilst no progress is observed. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1035590] Re: Kernel update on 10 Aug 2012 affects nm-applet signal strength
Hello Chris, The network-manager package mentioned in #16 has now made it into precise-proposed and has, for me at least, fixed the issue. I will now change the bug tag to verification-done. Thanks for your efforts. ** Tags removed: verification-needed ** Tags added: verification-done -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1035590 Title: Kernel update on 10 Aug 2012 affects nm-applet signal strength Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “linux” source package in Precise: Invalid Status in “network-manager” source package in Precise: Fix Committed Status in “linux” source package in Quantal: Invalid Status in “network-manager” source package in Quantal: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] Impacts all users of ipw2x00-based hardware, for the ipw2200 and ipw2100 drivers: this is fairly common Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless hardware present in at least quite a few Thinkpad laptops. [Test Case] On a system with an Intel PRO/Wireless card: 1) Click the network indicator/applet. 2) Observe the detected signal level. 3) Try to connect to a secured wireless network. Connection should be successful and ask for the wifi network password (if it's not already entered) Alternatively: 1) Run the command 'nmcli dev wifi'. Signal level should be low (usually visible as simply '0'). [Regression Potential] This change will modify the detection behavior for the wireless framework to use for wireless cards. It needs to be properly tested with the affected devices to make sure the signal level and encryption capabilities are properly detected; but should also be tested with other devices to make sure signal levels and encryption capabilities remain properly detected. A possible regression scenario would be if a device that works with nl80211 (without the patch) would get detected as needing wext when it is not implemented. This would likely cause such a device to not be able to see wireless networks and connect to them. With 3.2.0-29-generic the nm-applet no longer reports the wireless signal strength. If I reboot into 3.2.0-27-generic this problem does not occur. I am using a Toshiba Equium M70-339 laptop, and my wireless card is listed on the manufacturer's webpage as being an Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200 LAN Mini PCI adaptor integrated in Intel® Centrino™ mobile technology. I've purged and reinstalled network-manager to no effect. The only way for me to get the signal strength reported by the nm- applet is to use an earlier kernel. iwconfig reports the correct signal quality. lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release: 12.04 apt-cache policy network-manager network-manager: Installed: 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4.1 Candidate: 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4.1 Version table: *** 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4.1 0 500 http://mirrors.coreix.net/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu3 0 500 http://mirrors.coreix.net/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages apt-cache policy linux-image-3.2.0-29-generic linux-image-3.2.0-29-generic: Installed: 3.2.0-29.46 Candidate: 3.2.0-29.46 Version table: *** 3.2.0-29.46 0 500 http://mirrors.coreix.net/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main i386 Packages 500 http://mirrors.coreix.net/ubuntu/ precise-security/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status I expect nm-applet to display the signal strength of my WPA2 wireless AP, but instead no signal is reported. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1035590] Re: Kernel update on 10 Aug 2012 affects nm-applet signal strength
Yes, I can still connect to networks- the issue is more of an annoyance than something that has completed broken wifi. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1035590 Title: Kernel update on 10 Aug 2012 affects nm-applet signal strength Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: With 3.2.0-29-generic the nm-applet no longer reports the wireless signal strength.
