Public bug reported:

  "null" account in Online Accounts

Status in Online Accounts: GNOME Control Center:
  Confirmed
Status in “gnome-control-center-signon” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After updating to the beta of 13.04 and being prompted to grant access
to accounts setup in Online Accounts, I noticed there was an account
with no name/category in the side panel. When selected, nothing comes
up and when I attempt to remove it, nothing happens.

My Google and Facebook accounts can be granted access and removed with
no issue, while it seems this "null" account is stuck in limbo.

  To reproduce:

  1. Launch Online Accounts (System Settings > Online Accounts)
  2. In the side panel, at the top of the accounts list, there should be a
blank line that represents a null account.

  Hi
The categories instead of the actual (Gwibber, shotwell, emphaty) they should
be :
-Mail & Contacts (Yahoo!, Gmail. Outlook, and even personal
services with a assistant dialog)
-Documents (Google Drive, Zoho Docs, Office web)
 -Social sharing (Facebook, Google+, Twitter)
-Photography (Picasa, Facebook albums, Instagram, Ubuntu one)
 -Streaming (Youtube, Deezer, Ubuntu one)
-Files and Backup (Ubuntu one, Dropbox, Google Drive)
 -Messaging (Facebook, Skype, Jabber, Google)
 -Bookmarks (Firefox sync, Google, xmarks)
 -Notes & Calendars (tomboy)

Seb, I had no idea what a dbgsym package was before you mentioned it, so
would following:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash#Debug_Symbol_Packages

be enough to get a useful stack trace, specifically the -dbgsym
instructions?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1134765] Re: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in g_simple_async_result_complete()

2013-02-28 Thread David King
I tried to reproduce this but was not able to do so. It is hard to debug
without debug symbols in the stack trace, but I could not find debug
packages for account-plugin nor gnome-control-center-signon, so I filed
bug 1135475. Once it is fixed, please try to reproduce with the debug
packages installed and attach the stack trace here. Thanks!

Forgive me if online-accounts is not the right place to file this.

However, I only want Gwibber to have access to the facebook account,
and not Empathy (or Shotwell), I am not currently able to deselect
Empathy from the list of integrated applications.

While this is a wishlist bug, I consider it an important one because
having online accounts be 'all or nothing' will probably mean some
people will choose 'nothing'. It is also a usability issue because
Empathy also doesn't allow me to logout out of facebook so it shows
that I am available for chat on Facebook during my work hours. The
only way to prevent this is to close empathy altogether, but if I use
non-facebook accounts in Empathy for work, I am stuck.

from UOA are Empathy, the Google Drive scope for the Files lens and
Gwibber.

  1. Open System Settings > Online Accounts.
  2. Select "Add account..." if it is not selected already.

What you see: A grey box around the "Show accounts that integrate
  with:" menu.

What you should see: Just the label and menu, centered over or left
  -/right-aligned with the list below.

For an individual account, the grey box serves to tie the account
details to the on/off switch. But for the list of accounts, it serves
no purpose. And it's not a good thing for this layout to be consistent
with that one, because they serve quite different purposes.

Bug description:
We will add an option in the Privacy panel of System Settings.

This on/off switch enables to remove all internet connexion in any
lens you have installed supporting the option (which are all lenses in
  the ubuntu repository).

All lenses components and libunity are impacted by the change, as well
as gnome-control-center. A couple of new strings will be added to the
  latest for the option.

see on comment #27 the screenshot of the privacy settings dash panel. This
one is in gnome-control-center (but the source is activity-log-manager for it).
  The additional strings are:

  #: ../src/activity-log-manager.vala:57
  msgid "Search Results"
  msgstr ""

  #: ../src/searchresults-widget.vala:60
  #, c-format
msgid "When searching in the Dash:"
  msgstr ""

  #: ../src/searchresults-widget.vala:67
  #, c-format
  msgid "Include online search results."
  msgstr ""

The fact that this lens is installed by default means that users are
shown commercial content as search results by default in the home
screen, and that search queries are sent to an external (to the user)
server. It's reasonable that one might want to turn this behaviour
off. While it is possible to uninstall the package, this isn't a
  particularly intuitive route for most.

Other lenses have a 'Filter results' item, which would solve this if
on the home screen. Otherwise, an option somewhere in the control
  centre (privacy?) would be good.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1052375] Re: The online account g-c-c interface doesn't support i18n

2012-10-04 Thread David King
** Description changed:

The online accounts UI loads the plugins integration from some
.application files. Those are not translated, not translatable.

What needs to be done, is:
  - rename the .application in .application.in
  - ensuring that upstream have an application.in files with translatable tags
(using _, as in <_description>I want to be translated). Example
[1]
  - add a tag containing the upstream domain
  - then, at build time:

  1. Running intltool-extract files.applications.in so that it gets merged
into a files.applications.in.h file. If you are using intltool already
in your build system (and you probably are), this should be happening
already and you can skip to step 2.

  2. Including the .in file somewhere in the build system (like
po/POTFILES.in for Python apps and Makefiles.am for C/vala apps) so that
it's merged into the .pot file. In Python, it's just a matter of adding
it as an extra line to the po/POTFILES.in file (example [2]):

- [gettext/xml]data/gwibber.application.in
+ [type: gettext/xml]data/gwibber.application.in

  3. And running intltool-merge --no-translations -x -u foo.applications.in
foo.application to create the xml upstream file which is shipped
  - online-account (the g-c-c plugin) should be patched to load them, looking
at the tag and gettext (package, string)

[UIFe] Add legal notice buttons to UI

Status in Online Accounts: GNOME Control Center:
  Fix Released
Status in “gnome-control-center-signon” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The online accounts settings panel stores credentials and access
tokens for online services locally, and shows service provider icons
to associate a local account with a provider. This presents some
problems when complying with the terms of service of the online
providers, as most require that it is clear that services are not
misrepresented as being recommended by the provider in question,
especially with the use of provider logos. To comply with the terms of
service, it must be made clear what the scope of the application
(Online Accounts) is and how the user's data is used.

To fix this, in consultation with Canonical legal counsel and design,
I have added a legal notice to the Mallard help of the Online Accounts
control centre panel. The notice briefly explains what the Online
Accounts technology does with the user's information and some other
legal details. I have linked this help page to the panel UI with two
new link buttons, one shown during authorization and the other shown
during configuration, so that the user can access the legal notice
from the UI at all times.

The relevant UI changes are the addition of two user-visible strings
(‘Learn more’ and ‘Legal notice’ for the link buttons), the change of
an existing string (adds a full stop at the end of a sentence) and the
addition of the legal notice as a Mallard page (a page of legal copy).
The additions result in the UI of the panel changing to accommodate
the new buttons, such that any existing screenshots would need to be
retaken. I will attach screenshots to demonstrate the UI changes.

The merged changes which are included in this UI freeze exception
  request are:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1056718] [NEW] [UIFe] Add legal notice buttons to UI

2012-09-26 Thread David King
Public bug reported:

The online accounts settings panel stores credentials and access tokens
for online services locally, and shows service provider icons to
associate a local account with a provider. This presents some problems
when complying with the terms of service of the online providers, as
most require that it is clear that services are not misrepresented as
being recommended by the provider in question, especially with the use
of provider logos. To comply with the terms of service, it must be made
clear what the scope of the application (Online Accounts) is and how the
user's data is used.

To fix this, in consultation with Canonical legal counsel and design, I
have added a legal notice to the Mallard help of the Online Accounts
control centre panel. The notice briefly explains what the Online
Accounts technology does with the user's information and some other
legal details. I have linked this help page to the panel UI with two new
link buttons, one shown during authorization and the other shown during
configuration, so that the user can access the legal notice from the UI
at all times.

The relevant UI changes are the addition of two user-visible strings
(‘Learn more’ and ‘Legal notice’ for the link buttons), the change of an
existing string (adds a full stop at the end of a sentence) and the
addition of the legal notice as a Mallard page (a page of legal copy).
The additions result in the UI of the panel changing to accommodate the
new buttons, such that any existing screenshots would need to be
retaken. I will attach screenshots to demonstrate the UI changes.

legal details.

The merged changes which are included in this UI freeze exception
  request are:

  center/legal-notice/+merge/126387

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1056209] Re: empty accounts lines displayed (account-plugin-jabber not installed)

2012-09-25 Thread David King
It would probably be a good idea for Empathy to request installation of
plugins that are not currently installed (with PackageKit, for example)
when going through the migration process. Anyway, the UOA panel should
be more clever about dealing with missing account plugins.
