[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1132531] Re: Error in date format for Wednesday

2013-02-24 Thread Evan Peck
I think what Jesusfreak was getting at was the fact that Wednesdays
should be written out in default column size. They was it is, you have
to mosify your column spacing in order to be able to see all dates
clearly wich can be a minor annoycance especially for new users.

    Jun 5 15:25:48 cprli0554 lightdm: pam_sss(lightdm:auth): received
for user pepet6: 13 (User account has expired)

also, when user is in "warning" state there's a message that appears
for very short time in screen and user is not able not read it.

  again in /var/log/auth.log:

    Jun 5 15:28:50 cprli0554 lightdm: pam_sss(lightdm:auth): User info

I'm planning a huge migration and these kind of bugs gives lot of

then see if problems persist.
Also, upload everything in this:

Alessandro,

About your B43 issue, it is easily fixed by installing b43-fwcutter and
istalling/reinstalling firmware-b43-installer, it worked for my AirPort
card. You might need to reboot after, tho.

Also, see blueprint:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1010711] Re: Battery not detected under Power Statistics, Battery Indicator not showing in menu bar, and Battery Status setting under Power not sticking

2012-06-14 Thread Evan Peck
Patrick,

Probably not. Omer knows when it's a Unity bug of not (he's a Unity
community hacker). You said it effects both Unity and GNOME Shell, so
that means it's not a bug SPECIFIC to Unity. As I said in #5, it might
be a hardware detection problem, so run:

uname -a > uname-a.log

cat /proc/version_signature > proc_version_signature.log

sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log (those are 2 v's not a w)

dmesg > dmesg.log

and attacht the 4 files it outputs (uname-a.log, proc_version_signature.log,
lspci-vvnn.log, and dmesg.log).
Muchas Gracias!

Bug description:
When I start Ubuntu, when I login to Unity OR Gnome (whether it being
Classic or regular Gnome), the battery indicator won't be showing in
  the status bar..

Also, when the battery indicator isn't showing, the battery isn't
  detected in Power Statistics..

When I open Gnome-Control-Center, the Show Battery Status in Menu Bar
setting under Power shows a blank option, and if you choose an option,
  it doesn't stick..

When I suspend and wake up the system, then it shows up..

I have tried other things to get it show up like Alt > F2 and "r" as
  the command

and Rebooting the system, and other things...

This happens EVERY time I reboot, and is not a one time thing so that
is how I know it is a bug..

A quick Google search shows that it affects other users, not just me,
so that is why I have changed the status of the bug to confirmed..

  What I expected to happen..

I expected the system to display the status of the battery without
having to put the system to "sleep" and wake the system..

  What happened?

Every time I boot up the system after it has been completely powered
off, the system doesn't display the battery indicator AND Power
Statistics doesn't recognize my laptop battery that is in a fully
functional condition (the battery isn't but 6 months old)..

What did I do for this to happen?

I did nothing but boot my system up..

2012-06-11 Thread Evan Peck
OK, I came up with a workaround.

1. Download luciduscfix.tar.gz - see attatched file.
2. Put it in your home folder.
3. Right-click it and "Extract here"
4. Open a fresh terminal window.
5. "cd luciduscfix"
6. "./fixit.sh"
7. Follow onscreen directions.

There will be some funky errors, don't mind them, it works. Also, if you
are not for-sure experiencing this exact bug, DO NOT use this. Just
don't.

Muchas Gracias!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1010711] Re: Battery not detected under Power Statistics, Battery Indicator not showing in menu bar, and Battery Status setting under Power not sticking

2012-06-09 Thread Evan Peck
Patrick,

That's OK! It just seems like the bug is more Ubuntu itself recognizing
it as a laptop- and just not telling each of those programs. I
definitely appreciate you having a great description. :) I'd like to
know what happens with this bug, as for the people that have it, it's a
huge bumber.

Muchas Gracias!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1010711] Re: Battery not detected under Power Statistics, Battery Indicator not showing in menu bar, and Battery Status setting under Power not sticking

2012-06-08 Thread Evan Peck
Patrick,

Please do not confirm your bugs unless instructed by a triager. I will
leave it as confirmed, tho, as this also effects me and I experience
identical symptoms. Also, I'm not quite sure about your package choice.
It seems that one component of Ubuntu detects our laptops as desktops,
and effects Unity, Gnome-Control-Centre, rather than each individual
program having a seperate bug.

Muchas Gracias!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1009013] Re: incorrect password policy messages

2012-06-07 Thread Evan Peck
Muzzol,

Thank you for all that juicy debug-file-stuff. :)
Really.
Also, (on #7), I personally would classify that as two issues, but may be
caused by the same problem, so don't create a seperated bug for each of those
just yet.

also, when user is in "warning" state there's a message that appears

I'm planning a huge migration and these kind of bugs gives lot of

Lnxusr,

Are you saying that, want you want is for, say, if I open up a link from
Thunderbird, I won't see Firefox open, but it will open anyway? Is that
the way it was 11.10 and earlier? If you can give an accurate
description of what happens now and what you think should happen, this
can be a feature request (since it's really not a bug), and get taken
care of.

Muchas Gracias!

Volker,

Das GRUB-Menü wird auf dem Ubuntu-Partition befinden. Also, wenn Sie

I've configured LDAP auth with sssd package and lightdm is not

    Jun 5 15:25:48 cprli0554 lightdm: pam_sss(lightdm:auth): received

also, when user is in "warning" state there's a message that appears
for very short time in screen and user is not able not read it.

Title:
Can't download purchased Humble Indie Bundle with Ubuntu Software
  Center

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I found a simple workflow that leads to confusion and frustration for
  users purchasing software for Ubuntu:

  1) purchase the humble indie bundle from http://www.humblebundle.com/

  2) Pay online with one of the supported methods

  3) you get an email with a link which contains a key and takes you to
  the download page on humblebundle.com.

  4) click on the big "Download for Ubuntu" button to get to http
://software-center.ubuntu.com with the same key in the URL parameters

  5) Now click on any of the games and allow Software Center to handle
  the apt:// url.

  6) Software Center displays the correct product, but it offers you to
buy the game once again :-(

  As a work-around, I clicked on a troubleshooting link in a second
email I received from @canonical.com, which took me to a page with the
details of the password-protected PPA. I manually added the PPA to my
system, so I could finally download the package.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1007628] Re: Windows ist nicht eingehängt

2012-06-03 Thread Evan Peck
Vielen Dank! Ich für mein schlechtes Deutsch
entschuldigen.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1007691] [NEW] Simulated Right-Click Turns Off After Reboot

2012-06-01 Thread Evan Peck
Public bug reported:

When I enable the Simulated Right-Click feature, it works, but after
turning off my laptop and turning it on again, the option still says
"ON" but does not work. I have to turn it off, then on again. Then it
seems to work. Hm...

This may also help: Ubuntu does not recognize my PowerBook G4 as a laptop, so
apm also has some suspend+restore problems.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 817326] Re: [Upstream] Previously-saved LibreOffice document lost by power outage (became 0 bytes long) - LibreOffice should call fsync

Bug description:
I was working on a document in LibreOffice today while my battery was
low and so I was frequently saving, which I thought would help me if I
lost power. However, when I eventually did lose power and later
rebooted, the document had become 0 bytes long. LibreOffice was not
able to restore the auto-saved copy either. As a result, I have lost a
whole week of notes for one of my courses.

After researching online, it seems that this is caused by the
application not calling fsync() (or fdatasync()) when saving files.
Due to delayed allocation in modern filesystems, there is no guarantee
that the new file's data has actually been written to disk unless the
application calls fsync. So if an app writes a new file and replaces
the old one with it without fsync'ing the new one first then there is
a window of opportunity during which a power failure will result in
the loss of BOTH versions of the file. In ext4 this window is also
  much larger than in ext3.

Theodore Tso blogged about this at http://ldn.linuxfoundation.org

  http://www.linuxfoundation.org/news-

Title:
[MASTER] E-D-S hangs on login and uses 100% cpu

Status in Evolution Data Server:

Status in “evolution-data-server” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: evolution-data-server

-- do not add simple "me too" comments, they do not help: we
already *know* this is a problem, and these comments only make it more
difficult to find potentially important data in the bug. If you have
the knowledge and time to help debug, your help *is* appreciated. Go
to #ubuntu-bugs in irc.freenode.net, and discuss it there. I am sure
that any one of us will be more than happy to get on with this
  ;-)

On login evolution-data-server uses 100% cpu. At login evolution-
  alarm-notify is auto-started by gnome-session; e-a-n kicks in E-D-S
and, for yet an unknown reason, E-D-S enters a loop. strace on E-D-S
shows a sequence of very fast poll() calls; a strace on e-a-n shows
e-a-n waiting for an event. This seems to happen on some machines, but
not all. It affects both Evolution users and non-users -- E-D-S is
still installed under Gnome even if you do not use the Evolution mail
  client.

All symptoms are of a race condition, very early in E-D-S or a library
startup. Backtraces are inconclusive, and show slightly different code
paths. I cannot reproduce it on my machine (an AMD64 dual-core), no
  matter what I try.

I would like to know what Linux and hardware architecture, and how
many CPUs for those that are *frequently* hit (for example, {linux64,
  AMD64, 2 CPUs}, meaning I am running linux64 on an AMD64 with two
  CPUs; {linux32, AMD64, 4 CPUs}, meaning I am running linux32 Intel on
  an AMD64 with 4 CPUs).

Right now we are considering this as a race very early on session
startup, perhaps caused by the current placement of e-a-n on the
default session list (with the default priority of 50). I myself still
cannot reproduce it, and I wonder if having a dual-CPU machine, and/or
linux64, and/or AMD64, makes the race more difficult to happen.

2012-01-16 Thread Evan Peck
Were you using the latest LibreOffice version?
The info says you were using LO 3.3.2.
"Package: libreoffice-core 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5"
The latest Final release is 3.4.5 (libreoffice.org)
The latest in LP is 3.5.1.
I would recommend using 3.4.5 to avoid errors related to LO not calling
functions
