[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1738581] [NEW] apport is leaking environment variables (including passwords!) to public bug reports
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: See the bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1738564 created with ubuntu-bug. Dez 16 19:11:31 hostname /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[9679]: dbus-update-activation-environment: setting MPD_HOST=...@.xxx.org Normally it would be not problem that gdm-x-session write this to the journal, because the journal is not intended to be published on the internet. After that, all serial wacom devices (for the touchscreen) are gone: serial wacom stylus serial wacom eraser serial wacom touch xinput -list and xsetwacom --list don't show these devices and the Wacom Tablet section of the system setings reports 'no tablet detected' rather than showing the usual settings. Booting with the old linux 3.13 kernel makes no difference to the new version 3.16. To find out what happened I played around on a spare partition with the following results: 1) fresh installation of 14.10 - result is the same like reported above: no touch devices 2) fresh installation of 14.04 - touch works out of the box 3) upgraded the fresh installation of trusty to utopic: touch devices gone again 4) manually changed repos to utopic after fresh installation of 14.04 and updated ONLY the xserver-xorg-input-wacom package: apt pulled some dependencies and installed without errors, touch devices gone (so it reproduces the error exactly as the full upgrade) WORKAROUND: Replace the udev rule /lib/udev/rules.d/69-wacom.rules/wacom.rules by the old file from Ubuntu 14.04 by putting it in /lib/udev/rules.d/ : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom/+bug/1392887/+attachment/4264135/+files/69-xserver-xorg-input-wacom.rules ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 Package: xserver-xorg-input-wacom 1:0.25.0-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.16.0-24.32-generic 3.16.4 Uname: Linux 3.16.0-24-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Nov 14 22:51:05 2014 DistUpgraded: 2014-11-01 04:28:11,674 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: utopic DistroVariant: ubuntu InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-10-16 (759 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Release amd64 (20120823.1) MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HP EliteBook 2760p ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.16.0-24-generic root=UUID=81ff9b66-4d33-49d5-a76f-cf1418c3e354 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xf86-input-wacom UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to utopic on 2014-11-01 (13 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 08/04/2014 dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.bios.version: 68SOU Ver. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1081015] Re: lockPref() in /etc/thunderbird/syspref.js is not working
I just retest the issue. It seems to be a thunderbird@ubuntu problem. * I can still reproduce it in thunderbird 24 below ubuntu 13.04. * I have also "backported" icedove from debian/jessie. Here the problem is not reproducible and the lockPref statement is working correct. The icedove backport is available via ppa:dirk-computer42/c42-backport ** Tags added: raring -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1081015 Title: lockPref() in /etc/thunderbird/syspref.js is not working Status in Mozilla Thunderbird Mail and News: New Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Via /etc/thunderbird/sysprefs.js is it possible to set system wide configuration settings. lockPref() should ensure that the user can't change this setting. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1004515] Re: segfault in accounts-daemon when logging in / gdm crash if user account is added or deleted
I have a similar problem as described in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/accountsservice/+bug/1067414 I can confirm that the solution is to upgrade the accountservice packages. In my ppa https://launchpad.net/~dirk- computer42/+archive/c42-backport/+packages I provide a "no change" backport from raring to precise. Using this backport results in the following update: accountsservice (0.6.15-2ubuntu9.6 => 0.6.29-1ubuntu8~precise1~ppa1) gir1.2-accountsservice-1.0 (0.6.15-2ubuntu9.6 => 0.6.29-1ubuntu8~precise1~ppa1) libaccountsservice0 (0.6.15-2ubuntu9.6 => 0.6.29-1ubuntu8~precise1~ppa1) Using this packages solves for me the problem. I suggest a backport of accountservice to precise to fix the problem in precise. As a preliminary workaround my ppa may be used. After upgrading my sytem to Natty the Cups PDF printer does not work correctly any more. Everything worked fine until then. I have reinstalled cups and poopler. No difference. 1. It prints (indicating mutliple pages printed). But the invariable result is a file containing a singe empty page of size 2192 bytes, not depending on the document printed (indeed, also the print test page dialog produces this result). 2. The printer settings are not respected. The empty page has letter format. In my settings I have A4. I am not a power user, so please tell me if I can provide more useful information. Public bug reported: The rolling releases of thunderbird in ubuntu 12.04 (LTS) and newer renders thunderbird in some use cases as unusable or a known security problem. If I update to a new version of thunderbird, I have a time frame of days till weeks there is now new version of this add-on is available. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 704123] Re: PIN is asked despite it's configured into the system connection
Please reopen the bug. I can also affirm that the problem is still existing on ubuntu 12.04 (network-manager0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4.1) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/704123 Title: PIN is asked despite it's configured into the system connection Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: network-manager I've configured a system-wide 3g broadband connection. In fact it's there a file with all the provided details in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ . If I switch (log-out + log-in) to a non-administrative user, as soon as I plug the USB 3G modem I get asked the modem PIN. This is included into the mentioned file. The objective is to allow a "normal" user to connect with the modem with out the knowledge of username, password and PIN. The defails follow. $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 10.10 Release: 10.10 Codename: maverick How to reproduce the bug: 1. Log in as an administrative user (the first one you create at installation time) 2. Plug the USB 3G modem into a port 3. Go to System-->Preferences-->Newtwork Connections-->Mobile Broadband 4. Fill all the needed details (as well as the PIN) 5. Check "Automatically connect" and "Available to all users" 6. Test the connection is working. 7. Check the file in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ 8. Reboot (maybe just logout and long is enough) 9. Log in as the administrative user 10. Plug the USB modem What happens The system asks for the PIN. You can ignore this request. Then you can go to the netowrk icon and select the broadband connection and click it. This time the PIN is not required and the connection fires up. What is expected to happen No PIN is required at the modem insertion and the connection fires up automatically. Extra steps. 11. Create another non administrative user which is capable to connect through modems (groups dialout and dip). 12. Switch to this new user 13. Plug the USB modem. What happens The system asks for aìthe PIN. You cannot ignore this request.
