after formatting a USB-Stick with gnome-disks, i mount it as a user in nemo but 
the rights are only for root. 
i can't change that with sudo chown or in nemo with root permissions.

how can i format a USB-Stick and use it?

i know that this wasn't a problem some time ago when i last used gnome-disks.
seems to be a new bug?!

i use 16.04.03 with all updates installed and the problem is with ext4
or fat format

When maximizing a window like i.e. Nemo or Evolution and closing it, starting 
the app again leads to an unmaximized window.
This behaviour is always the same within one session or after reboot.

Firefox (not snap! but .deb install) for instance just shows this behaviour 
after a session restart/reboot.
Within the session it remembers the window size and state.


I expect that the window size of the last state before closing is restored 
after starting the app again.
That was the normal behaviour until the upgrade to 23.04.

Its still a bug in 22.04.

as a normal user i can change the highlight active line setting as a

  about how the problem is fixed but this configuration makes gedit very

which is used by default in Ubuntu GNOME and Ubuntu Budgie.

  Any other browser or service that uses webkit2gtk is similarly broken,
  such as the Epiphany browser.

  The second issue fixed here is that any user who opted in to the new
  YouTube will only get a white screen when they attempt to visit
  YouTube. The new YouTube is still opt-in now but will eventually
  become the default for everyone.

  1. Install the updated webkit2gtk on Ubuntu GNOME.
  2. Restart your computer (this may be necessary because of LP: #1610944)
  3. Log in. Open Settings>Online Accounts. Remove any Google accounts already 
configured. Add your Google account.
  4. Install Evolution if it's not already installed and verify that your Gmail 
account loads.

  Optional, because the beta is closed to new entrants:
  5. Install epiphany-browser
  6. Open the Web app (epiphany-browser) and log in to your Google account.
  7. Visit https://www.google.com/new to make sure that your browser is set to 
use the "new YouTube."
  8. If the new YouTube only shows a white screen, this part of the bug is not 
fixed.

  The regression potential was limited by only cherry-picking the commits to 
fix these 2 high-profile issues. 2.16.2 is being rolled out to most distros now.

  With Ubuntu Gnome 17.04 (brand new 64bit install on a Dell XPS13 laptop), I 
cannot add a Google account using Online-Accounts. If I choose to add a new

email. After entering my email and pressing the Next button, a window appears 
where I can enter my Google password. After entering the password and pressing 
the Next button, an empty window appears and nothing else happens. I expected 
this to show something useful, and actually add the Google account to my Gnome 
environment.

  Cursor is visible at unlock screen either after returning from suspend
  or just locking.

  After unlocking screen cursor is invisible.

  Changing to vt1 then back to vt7 (ctrl+alt+f1 then ctrl+alt+f7) cursor

  no matter if you suspend or sleep, to swap or disk when you return
  from it, the mouse cursor is missing.you can still move the mouse
  and you can see (because it highlights the window) as you move it
  around.   But the cursor is not displayed on the screen.

  i am using a lenovo W540 laptop.   I downloaded the latest beta on
  april 8 2016.

  this is xubuntu using the xfce window manager.

  the cursor does return if i log off and log back in, but that actually 
defeats the purpose of going to sleep.

  Proxy configuration in Unity is a poor and minimalist issue. There's
  no way to set user and proxy passwords, no way to set
  hosts/networks/domains exceptions. This behavior causes a tremendous
  headache when installing/upgrading Ubuntu in corporative networks
  where IT team is a little more "paranoid" about security issues.

  So, for God's sake, please add the options I described above
  (exceptions and user/password) in Unity's proxy config.

@Sebastien: Excuse me Sebastien but what you wrote is bull*** in my
eyes!!!

I don't know what users have tested the functionality of Ubuntu but most users 
in the Windows-World and growing number of users in the Apple Universe use 
right-click menus for exactly the reason of intuitive and fast workflow! that 
has nothing to do with "Power-User" or such!
that is no statistic, that is my own experience on working with many different 
user-types in my daily business!

and on the other hand is there really NO reason to completely remove
features (even if only ONE person is using it!) with the argument that
it confuses new users!! What does that mean?? I think in that case it
would be much smarter to disable the feature by default and let the so-
called "Power-User" enable it!

Again excuse my harsh words but i'm so upset about the changes in
Nautilus, on the Launcher dodge window feature and on the global-menu!!

I use Ubuntu only for 8 years but the recent changes are the wrong way i
think (for the first time)

when clicking on install it finds the gstreamer plugin but the install
button is greyed out.

I've already installed the ubuntu restricted extras package and still
receive this error message. I'm using Rhythmbox v2.97 with ubuntu 12.10.

changing the mp3 settings to custom setting makes the ripping work just fine.
so it seems to be a problem with Rhythmbox...

i agree with Comment #12 - however this bug seems to be fixed in Ubuntu 12.10!
so if you don't have to use an LTS release an upgrade should give you a fast

Bug description:
  Opening folders with many files takes a long time with Nautilus, to the point 
it becomes unusable for folders with more than 5K files. 
  I've measured the time it takes for folders with different amount of files to 
open with Nautilus and Gnome Commander. It is ~6 times faster with GC on 
average. In folders with ~20K files, it takes 30s with nautilus versus 6! with 
GC. 

  With Nautilus
  ~3500 files tales 6 seconds
  ~7000 files takes 18 seconds
  ~15000 files takes 22 seconds
  ~2 files takes 30 seconds

  With Gnome Commander
  ~3500 files tales <1 second
  ~7000 files takes 1.5 seconds
  ~15000 files takes 3 seconds
  ~2 files takes 6 seconds

  These are mostly small dicom files (MRI images). I am using a 8 core 3.4Ghz 
and 16Gigs of RAM with Ubuntu 11.04 64-bits.
  Also, of course, things like selecting all files and copying them around is 
absurdly slow and makes nautilus unusable... but that would be another bug 
report (?).

Bug description:
  Dell E1505 inspiron laptop.  Fn-F10 hotkey combo ejects cd/dvd tray on
  jaunty and earlier versions of gnome, but fails on lucid gnome.

  When I hit Fn-F10, the eject on-screen-display icon appears, but the
  cd does not open.  I've checked the tray on another OS and it works
  with that key combo, so it's not a hardware problem.

  The output from xev when I press Fn-F10 is:

  The fact that the eject on-screen-display icon pops up makes me think
  this has nothing to do with failure to recognize the key input, and
  more likely relates to how gnome processes the XF86Eject command.

  For example, if I install xdotool and enter 'xdotool key XF86Eject' in
  a console, I see the same result.  The o-s-d icon appears, but the
  cd/dvd fails to open.

  Entering 'eject' in the console results in the cd/dvd opening.

  Not sure what else you need, but let me know.

ok, the contacts db is empty and on one.ubuntu.com there are all 497 contacts 
listed.
the service status doesn't explain why all contacts are correctly synced to my 
Notebook!?
i think the disruption is about the U1 mobile contacts sync...

in TB there is no option to chosse closing to message-indicator.

So if you close TB it closes and is not running in the background.
I.e. in Evolution you can choose to close the program to the message-indicator.

In TB you can only minimize the window.
