[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1438510] Re: [REGRESSION] bluetooth headset no longer supports a2dp

2016-07-31 Thread Jason Robinson
Confirmed on Ubuntu 16.04 (4.4.0-34-generic). Recently bought a
bluetooth dongle to my desktop. Cannot switch to A2DP making headset
useless for listening to music.

bluez 5.37-0ubuntu5
pulseaudio 1:8.0-0ubuntu3

Tried comment #5 editing, rebooted - no effect. This same log message
keeps coming to /var/syslog:

Bug description:
Just installed 15.04 fresh from the latest ISO (beta2).

I'm bummed to see my bluetooth headset (Bose Soundlink overear) seems
  to have regressed in functionality.

In 14.10, I was able to set the output profile either to a2dp or
  hsp/hfp (telephony duplex).

In 15.04, it only works in telephony duplex mode. I can't get high
fidelity sound playback to work at all.

This thread seems to be related, though the workaround within did not solve
the problem for me:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1439771] Re: wpa_supplicant[874]: dbus: Failed to construct signal after 'suspend'

2016-07-13 Thread Jason Robinson
Seen on 16.04 with rtl8723be wifi driver, network-manager
1.2.0-0ubuntu0.16.04.2. Happens no suspend/resume AND flight mode
toggle. Worked around the suspend problem by making systemd restart
network-manager service after suspend, which restores network
connections.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1246272] Re: Keyboard layout changing randomly in 13.10 (saucy)

2014-01-25 Thread Jason Robinson
Did a clean saucy install on the laptop of my wife and she got affected
by this. Would gladly help debug.

Not sure if it helped or not, since I only tried one reboot so far, but
others could also try putting the keyboard layout in ~/.dmrc - at least
for one login it helped but will need to check if happens again since it
doesn't seem to happen every boot.

Attached output of ubuntu-bug.

So I put this in ~/.dmrc (for Finnish):

Layout=fi

Just upgraded from 12.04 (raring) to 12.10 (saucy) and keyboard layout keeps

alt-tabbing is enough to mess with keyboard layout in one of the windows.

layouts but none have worked.

Awesome Brian.

Tested on Raring (3.9.4-030904-generic) with account-plugin-facebook out
of proposed at version 0.10bzr13.03.26-0ubuntu1.1

Can confirm successfully added a Facebook account via Online Accounts as
it should go, previously could not do it before the update.

Can confirm this here too. Did not realize it was related to the -h
option until I found this bug - I thought it was broken for Raring until
launch day came :) I also have -h in startup apps and removing it +
logging out and back helped.

Attaching ubuntu-bug export for empathy.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1153042] [NEW] Full screen window doesn't cover the whole screen

2013-03-09 Thread Jason Robinson
Public bug reported:

When I have Firefox in full screen mode and move the mouse to the right
hand side of the screen, the overlay scrollbar of the window underneath
pops up. If I click the mouse button at the far right of the window, the
window below gets activated as if I clicked it, which I did since

the overlay scrollbar in the view, clearly application in fullscreen

Screenshot included where if you zoom in to the far right, you can see
the overlay scrollbar in the view, clearly application in fullscreen

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1122520] Re: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in finish_with_cleanup()

2013-02-28 Thread Jason Robinson
Can confirm this too. I reported #1134765 yesterday but didn't remember
the right place I clicked to make it crash. It was indeed the All
settings button. Immediately after clicking this with for example
Facebook auth window open the whole settings UI crashes.

Attached report from ubuntu-bug gnome-control-center-signon.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 982889] Re: X trying to start before plymouth has finished using the drm driver

2013-02-28 Thread Jason Robinson
Bryce, would love to try this but I'm a bit worried that this is a
raring PPA with for example xserver-common 2:1.13.2-0ubuntu3 based
package and my system (12.10) has 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6.1 installed. Warning
bells in my head say upgrading could break my work computer.

What do you think? Any chance of backporting the fix to quantal version?

Bug description:

Looks like a race condition with intel drm initialization, i guess X
tries to start faster than drm driver is initialized so it fails.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 945033] Re: external keyboard/mouse not available after login on precise

2013-02-27 Thread Jason Robinson
Confirming on 12.10. External keyboard is not detected at all on boot if
it is plugged in and switched on. Most of the times it is detected if it
is plugged in and switched on only when login prompt is visible.
Sometimes to get it detected it is required to turn it off, unplug, plug
back in, turn on and possibly some magic words - then it starts to
always work.

Ubuntu 12.10 3.8.0-030800-generic #201302181935 SMP

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1005174] Re: HUD Service high CPU usage with Firefox

2012-10-31 Thread Jason Robinson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 987060 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/987060

I really do not think this is a duplicate of #987060. Can we remove this
status?

After using the computer for a while I start getting this every time I
switch to Firefox which has been running for some time. Memory usage
itself is ok. Computer works fine, using or not using the HUD, but when
I CTRL-TAB to Firefox, CPU jumps up and Firefox is very laggy for ~10-20
seconds and then CPU goes down and everything is fine. Until I switch to
another window and then back to Firefox.

Really annoying, I know removing firefox global menu addon helps for
this but I wouldn't want to do that, except probably will have to due to
this bug since Firefox is unusable..

Btw, I have thousands of bookmarks. Ubuntu 12.10 running stock Unity and
Firefox 16.0.2.

Attached is an image of how cpu usage is every time I switch windows
after using the computer for a while.

When using HUD to access Firefox menus, it will use a high amount of

  Steps to reproduce:
  - You need a Firefox install with hundreds of bookmarks.
  - Start Firefox
  - Start the Hud and try to search a item that it's on your bookmarks menu.
  - See the high CPU usage of unity-pane-service and hud-service.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1038438] Re: firefox crashes because of Global Menu Bar Integration plugin

2012-08-23 Thread Jason Robinson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1035305 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1035305

To be honest, I don't understand why this is a duplicate of #1035305.
This one is clearly caused by global menu integration. It doesn't affect
me after removing that. I have Firebug and it has not caused me any
problems. To me these seem very different - or is there a reason why
these are duplicates?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1038438] Re: firefox crashes because of Global Menu Bar Integration plugin

2012-08-18 Thread Jason Robinson
Been very annoyed at this for a while, finally decided to investigate
what it was - couldn't use HUD at all and no update has fixed this. Been
broken for some weeks at least? I have two Ubuntu laptops and Firefox
synced between both - both are affected by this bug.

Firefox running in debugger output for crash:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 856988] Re: totem cannot play quicktime file after upgrade to oneiric

2012-05-01 Thread Jason Robinson
This was affecting me as well after an upgrade from Oneiric to Precise.

Did:
rm -rf .gstreamer-0.10/

And now it works.

Status in “gstreamer0.10” source package in Precise:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Totem can't play quicktime files on a PC upgraded from natty to
oneiric. On a VM with oneiric installed from scratch, however, totem
can play the same files, so it seems to be a configuration error. Both
the PC and VM run 64 bit oneiric, have the same kernel version, and
  both have ia32 libs installed

A sample file that fails to play can be found in comment 5 of bug
  #851481.

On the PC that fails to play the files, totem prompts to install the
plugin for 'Quicktime demuxer' but then gnome-codec-install can't find
  a suitable plugin.

On the VM that *can* play the files, totem prompted to install the
same plugin and gnome-codec-install found and installed
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg and gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad. (These are both
already installed on the PC that cannot play the files.)

The output from gst-launch-0.10 uridecodebin=file:///file in
  question is:

  Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
  Pipeline is PREROLLING ...
  WARNING: from element /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstURIDecodeBin:uridecodebin0:

I have tried reinstalling all the installed gstreamer packages as well
  totem, but to no avail.

How does gstreamer match plugins against the video type, eg
  'video/quicktime, variant=(string)iso'?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 992198] [NEW] Nautilus file copy dialog doesn't show in ALT-TAB on Unity 2D

2012-04-30 Thread Jason Robinson
Public bug reported:

Unity 2D:

When initiating a file copy in Nautilus the file copy dialog appears
normally. However once it is lost by changing to other windows, it
cannot be found either via the launcher or with ALT-TAB. The launcher
clearly shows a file copy is going on (shows two windows open and a
progress bar on the icon) but clicking it only enables access to the
Nautilus window, not the file copy dialog.

This has been fixed in Unity 3D but not 2D - see bug #868032
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/868032

Release: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (64bit)
Nautilus version: 1:3.4.1-0ubuntu1
Unity 2D version: 5.12.0-0ubuntu1

Expected: File copy dialog can be retrieved via launcher or ALT-TAB
Actual: File copy dialog cannot be retrieved

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Tags: nautilus unity2d
