[Desktop-packages] [Bug 767266] Re: Update Nautilus right click menus

2014-01-12 Thread Jonathan Meek
I don't know about firsthand, but I did submit my proposal to an
upstream mailing list around the time of my unity design post. As far as
I'm aware there were never any replies.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1242243] Re: In fullscreen, the buttons/overlays do not appear

DOUBLE UPDATE: I would like to clarify that this issue does NOT exist in
VLC. Only fullscreen Totem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1242243] Re: In fullscreen, the buttons/overlays do not appear

2013-10-22 Thread Jonathan Meek
UPDATE: So, I plugged up my laptop to my TV to watch a video and
fullscreened it. Turns out, it prevents the mouse cursor from appearing
(this happened in the single-monitor scenario) but even after moving the
cursor to the non-fullscreened display, the cursor still did not appear.

Bug description:
Update the icons used for the Software Centre, Nautilus, and Software
Updater to the new icons supplied in the attached file
  "Nautilus_USC_Updater_new_icons.zip".

When any of these three applications are running, the Launcher tiles they are
mounted on should be illuminated in the following colours:
  Nautilus: #af4853
  Software center: #ffbf87
  Software updater: #4c9e39

(Note this functionality was added to the Launcher in Unity 6.0 as a
  result of bug #962120)

So, packages shipping Nautilus, Software Center and Software updater
should define in their .desktop file the proper X-Unity-
IconBackgroundColor field with the mentioned colors.

This change is part of a larger set of Launcher icon changes, see
attached image "preview-new-launcher-icons.png" for how the launcher
will appear when the full set of changes are made.

I think this is what just happened to me. Had a LightDM update earlier
and upon restart got the desktop with nautilus' menu across the top.
Have a Radeon mobility card.

This log was created by choosing "stop process" in System Monitor and
running the given command at prudent intervals (so marked in the log so
you can understand what was going on) Both logs were obtained from a
"fresh" restart of the computer.

2011-09-21 Thread Jonathan Meek
Yay for more updates: Broke my Oneiric install last night, decided to
axe all my settings files (except Chromium, Firefox, Banshee and my
games) and reinstall Oneiric. I updated everything last night and
suspended for the night, and tested idling today, screen cut off at ten
minutes. (settings are all to do something at the half hour mark at the
earliest, as before.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 851520] Re: Screensaver activates at the wrong times in Oneiric

2011-09-19 Thread Jonathan Meek
Okay, scratch that previous comment. Just updated and decided to test
the bug again. Booted (with three applications set to run at startup)
and, once it was started, ran NOTHING. I let the computer idle for 11
minutes. The screen did not cut off. I then tried to run totem. Compiz
crashed as I tried to run it from dash. Once Compiz restarted, I ran
totem and did nothing, letting the computer idle again. The screen cut
off at ten minutes.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 851520] Re: Screensaver activates at the wrong times in Oneiric

2011-09-19 Thread Jonathan Meek
I can fill in the details: When I run the computer, if I leave it idle
for ten minutes, the screen will cut off. My settings are all set for
the screen to shut off at a half hour at the earliest.

Conventionally, when the screen cuts off in the proper fashion (which I
can check via setting the screen cut off for 1 minute) the screen fades
to black. But when this ten-minute cutoff happens, the screen simply
immediately switches off.

I cannot attest to HOW it's happening. The previous comments are the
best guess at how these things happened.

setting to 1 minute. The screen began fading away at the proper time. I
then ran a video in totem for a time and the screen cut off at ten
minutes (with no fading). I then cut off the video and the screen faded
(as it should) after a minute.

I cannot reliably determine what it is that the issue is. I have asked
someone to repro the issue and they didn't seem to be affected. I've
deleted all my settings files and the issue persists.

** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 843031] [NEW] Various wireless issues

2011-09-06 Thread Jonathan Meek
Public bug reported:

I have Oneiric and Natty installed to my computer. In Natty and
Maverick, i never had issues with wireless, even when I was using the
prerelease versions (I suppose that's because they were more or less the
same components between those two distros) But in my new Oneiric install
I am getting many show stopping wireless issues.

I'll detail them in the order I encountered them:

First, when I'm at home, I typically use a Droid X mobile wifi hotspot
functionality to connect to the internet. I have input the correct pass
word and made sure all the settings are the same as in my Natty install,
but all that happens is the indicator endlessly shows it's trying to
connect and occasionally a pop up shows asking for the password. I still
have yet to get it to connect to the phone's hotspot.

Next, When I am connected to a regular router, sometimes, the connection
will begin acting up and slow down to nothing with VERY occasional
spikes of activity. Making it impossible to do anything online. The only
thing I've found to fix it is plugging into an ethernet cable for some
reason.

When i first tried to fix the above, i toggle the hardware switch for my
wifi and when I managed to get it back on, the NM-Applet would just say
"Device Not Ready" (But if I toggle Airplane Mode in the System Settings
network pane, it will connect in the slow manner described above.

Finally, there was an instance where I simply couldn't connect to ANY
password protected wireless at all (it would do what it does with the
DroidX hotspot and endlessly try to connect.

For reference, obtained my wireless/ethernet card data from "lspci":

02:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8191SEvA
Wireless LAN Controller (rev 10)
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E
PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02)

My Oneiric is fully up to date, if there are any other tests you'd like
me to run, I'd be more than happy to.
