[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1593924] Re: systemd-shim was not installed in 16.10 and now cannot purge or remove

2016-10-16 Thread Julien-Charles Lévesque
To me this seems to be the problem :

dpkg-divert: error: rename involves overwriting
'/usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service' with
  different file
'/usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service.systemd',
not allowed

Why does the package try to do this if it is not allowed?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1028617] Re: Cursor shakes violently when connected to power source - makes touchpad cursor unusable

2015-02-26 Thread Julien-Charles Lévesque
The problem is related to electrical interference from the power supply
(see http://superuser.com/questions/76649/laptop-touchpad-works-
incorrectly-when-on-power-supply). As suggested by users here,
increasing the noise threshold helps.

In my case, this problem happens because I am using a cheap ebay power
supply that was not manufactured by my laptop's maker.

Title:
Cursor shakes violently when connected to power source - makes
  touchpad cursor unusable

Status in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Using Ubuntu 12.04, 64-bit version, installed on Lenovo X220 laptop.
Fresh "default" install and settings configuration.

When the laptop is plugged into a power source, the touchpad's
onscreen cursor (the white arrow that shows position) shakes
excessively when trying to use the touchpad to control the cursor. The
shaking is so bad that it essentially makes the touchpad unusable. For
example, trying to click the minimize button in a window's upper left
corner will routinely result in accidentally clicking the close button
  because of the cursor's shaking.

The problem is NOT present when Ubuntu is running on battery. But this
means I can never have Ubuntu plugged in and charging while I use it,
which is very inconvenient at times.

I'm using the power block and cable that came with the X220. But I
also tried using a larger power block and cable that came with another
Lenovo model - this power block is approved for use with the X220 and
is sold on the Lenovo website as an X220 accessory. But this larger
power block did not improve the shaking behavior either.

I have no special settings enabled for the touchpad. But changing the
settings has no effect on this shaking behavior either. I attached a
screenshot of my Touchpad settings [please excuse the HUD's presence -
I cannot get the HUD to NOT appear when I press ALT+PrtSc to take a
screenshot (I guess this is another bug)].

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1180513] Re: lid close actions are ignored laptop always suspends

2013-11-08 Thread Julien-Charles Lévesque
I updated some things from saucy-proposed for another bug and the
behavior disappeared. I updated the following packages :

gnome-control-center
gnome-control-center-data
libindicator7

My guess as to which one fixed it would be gnome-control-center ;)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1229853] [NEW] wi-fi password asked on login prompt even though set for all users

2013-09-24 Thread Julien-Charles Lévesque
Public bug reported:

I get asked for my school's wi-fi password everytime I boot my computer,
at the login prompt. Wi-fi is WPA2, uses PEAP authentication and I
didn't set it to ask password everytime. Inner authentication is
MSCHAPv2, if that is relevant.

I'm only asked the password once, after that it's alright - no more
problems. Still, with the settings I gave it I believe the password
should be remembered.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1003057] Re: Windows disappear unexpectedly when switching application

This happens to me when I switch accounts, and log back into the
original account. All the processes are still running (e.g., music is
still playing), but the windows are gone.

Bug description:
When working with some applications, after you switch between

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1066395] Re: Nautilus (list view) column widths change dynamically on alt-tab, lags on large folders

Title:
Nautilus (list view) column widths change dynamically on alt-tab, lags
  on large folders

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The problem seems to be that nautilus re-parses the list of files in a
folder after an alt-tab to resize dynamically the column widths, e.g.,
the name column will be made wider if there is a file with a very
large name. What happens is that if you have a large folder, upon a
window redraw (with alt-tab for example), the column width for 'Name'
is set to a small value, and then increases when a larger file name is
found. This produces a weird effect with the columns changing sizes
multiple times - not particularly nice, and I believe will be much
more problematic on very large folders. Isn't there some way of
caching the previously computed value on this same folder and only
refreshing it once, thus making it invisible to the user?

Running updated Ubuntu 12.10 64 bits, nautilus package version
  1:3.5.90.really.3.4.2-0ubuntu4

I witnessed this in a folder containing only 71 files. There was a
file with a considerably longer file name at the end of the folder
(e.g. twice as long, 31 characters vs 15 characters in the first
  files)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 999814] Re: Touchpad scrolling and tapping stops working after a while

2012-09-30 Thread Julien-Charles Lévesque
Still experiencing this issue under Ubuntu 12.10 with Kernel 3.5.0-16.

Logging out and back in fixes it, although often only temporarily (comes
back after minutes or hours, it varies)

** Summary changed:

- Multitouch stops working after a while
+ Touchpad scrolling and tapping stops working after a while

** Description changed:

When I boot into my system, an ASUS Zenbook UX31, the elantech touchpad
works fine. I have a small script to configure it which is run when my
session starts, and those parameters are applied fine without problem.

Here is the script, in case something in there might be relevant :

  #!/bin/sh
  synclient FingerLow=9 FingerHigh=12
  synclient MinSpeed=2.0 MaxSpeed=4.0 AccelFactor=0.1
  synclient VertTwoFingerScroll=1 HorizTwoFingerScroll=0
  synclient CoastingSpeed=10 CoastingFriction=25
  synclient TapButton1=1 TapButton2=3 TapButton3=2
  synclient EdgeMotionMinZ=30 EdgeMotionMaxZ=40 EdgeMotionMinSpeed=100
EdgeMotionMaxSpeed=400
  synclient PalmDetect=1 PalmMinWidth=5 PalmMinZ=1
#must restart syndaemon to set those params.
  killall syndaemon
  syndaemon -i 1 -t -K -d

- The issue is that after a while, the multitouch just stops working. I am
- still able to use the touchpad, but it cannot scroll with two fingers, I
- cannot tap with two-three fingers to right-middle click, it's all gone.
- I haven't been able to pinpoint the exact issue yet.
+ The issue is that after a while, some features of the touchpad stop
+ working. They include tapping (one-two-three fingers) and two-finger
+ scrolling. The clickpad functions are still working. I haven't been able
+ to pinpoint the exact issue yet.

- I have also encountered this issue with the 3.4.0-rc6 kernel.
-
- In 11.10, everything ran smoothly, and I never encountered this issue.
+ I have encountered this issue with many kernels, including 3.4.0-rc6
+ kernel and the one in this report.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 495981] Re: NM disconnects Wi-Fi every 2 minutes but iwconfig+dhclient and wicd don't -- ath9k

2012-09-07 Thread Julien-Charles Lévesque
How this bug can still be going today amazes me. I experience this type
of unstability on my ASUS UX31E as well. Wireless card is an Ahteros
AR9485.

Title:
NM disconnects Wi-Fi every 2 minutes but iwconfig+dhclient and wicd

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

I have Dell studio XPS 13 running:
  Description: Ubuntu 9.10
  Release: 9.10

  with wifi card (lspci):
06:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless
Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)

that works (tries to) with ath9k module.

It connects to my access point and works ok however, It disconnects every 2-3
min saying (in dmesg):
  [ 311.600306] wlan0: RX AssocResp from 00:1d:68:0c:97:63 (capab=0x411
status=0 aid=2)
and then automatically reconnects... I have tried different drivers and other
things

Interestingly when I right-clicked on network manger applet, select ¨disable
networking¨ and then set up everything myself on console using iwconfig and
dhclient. IT WORKS!!!
  no disconnections
wpa_supplicant is still running in a background but not doing anything (my
wifi has WEP encryption).

I´ve seen some similar reports in Internet but they seem to think that
it is a driver problem when to me it looks like a NetworkManager
  issue...

  Hope it helps

Whenever I plug in my FAT32 iPod classic, it gets mounted as root
instead of my current user, making impossible writing to it with e.g.
gtkpod. I've got to sudo unmount it via shell, and then using gnome-
mount -d /dev/sdc1 makes the correct thing.

/etc/fstab doesn't contain anything pertinent. Other USB media devices
are mounted correctly with ownership set to the current user.

Please tell what other informations I could provide.

Could be either, any cues as to the proper way to diagnose this?

I've had trouble on many different kernels. I tried 3.3.0, 3.4-rc4 and
the stock kernel of precise (I think 3.2.0.24? can't check atm).
