[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1877648] Re: [nouveau] Laptop video problem

2020-05-11 Thread Karim BAKKAL
I can't try Ubuntu 20.04 or Xubuntu 20.04 because it's a 32 bits CPU.

I had similar problem at startup with Debian buster i386 but i'm waiting
an other hard disk to say if it was exactly the same thing or not.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1767912] Re: Mouse Keys enabled/enables during session when setting shows disabled

2018-04-29 Thread Karim Hollosi
** Description changed:

After starting a session, the numpad behaves as if Mouse Keys is
enabled. Going to Settings > Universal Access > Mouse Keys shows that
the feature is disabled. To disable Mouse Keys, the setting must be
enabled first, then disabled. Alternatively, the following commands must
  be used in terminal:

  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.a11y.keyboard mousekeys-enable true
  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.a11y.keyboard mousekeys-enable false

These settings will only persist for the session. It has been observed
that the function seemingly enables itself during a session, with no
known trigger. At the same time, the num lock or shift + num lock hotkey
does not function. Whether that is a separate bug is another story, but
neither key combination results in the accidental or purposeful
activation or deactivation of Mouse Keys.

Problem observed in Ubuntu 18.04. gsettings-desktop-schemas version
3.28.0-1ubuntu1. Has been previously observed in 17.10 and 16.04.

Current temporary workaround is to add the two commands above into a
script to run on startup. This does not solve inadvertent activations
  later on, however.

+ EDIT: Mouse Keys observed to enable itself when I type "xset led on"
+ into terminal to enable keyboard backlight.

Bug description:
Firefox always crashes when launched after the 55.0.1 update on an
Orange Pi PC Plus (a single-board computer similar to a Raspberry Pi),
  even in safe mode.

I did a fresh install of Armbian (a Ubuntu Xenial 16.04 re-spin for

installed Firefox and experienced the same problem--it won't load

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1286552] Re: No wifi after suspend

2014-07-05 Thread Karim Mesallam
I was having this same problem on Ubuntu 14.04 and after a couple of days of
trying to fix it, I found a file inside /etc/pm/sleep.d/ which is called
99dw1704.
This file handles disabling and enabling the wl module on hibernate and
suspend. All I had to do to fix it is to run:
sudo chmod -x /etc/pm/sleep.d/99dw1704 and everything ran fine after this.

To reproduce the bug : just suspend the computer and then power it.
There's no wifi network until you restart the computer.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1310595] Re: network-manager and wifi not working after resume from suspend

2014-07-05 Thread Karim Mesallam
I was having this same problem on Ubuntu 14.04 and after a couple of
days of trying to fix it, I found a file inside /etc/pm/sleep.d/ which
is called 99dw1704. This file handles disabling and enabling the wl
module on hibernate and suspend. All I had to do to fix it is to run:
sudo chmod -x /etc/pm/sleep.d/99dw1704

Title:
network-manager and wifi not working after resume from suspend

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After resume from suspend, wifi light stays off but wifi connects.
After resume from suspend second time, wifi does not connect and network
-manager says network not activated, activate network does not help. only
reboot does.

  additional info. I added:

  # WORKAROUND: always set the default hibernate mode first (normal mode)
  # (not required if you have the patch mentioned by Rohan below
(http://askubuntu.com/a/344879/169))
  HIBERNATE_MODE=platform

  # Always use hibernate instead of suspend, but with "suspend to both"
  if [ "$METHOD" = "suspend" ]; then
METHOD=hibernate
HIBERNATE_MODE=suspend
  fi

  # Make sure to use the kernel's method, in case uswsusp is installed etc.
  SLEEP_MODULE=kernel

  to /etc/pm/config.d/00-use-suspend-hybrid
to be able to suspend to disk.

Without this file wifi connects after resuspend but as said without
wifi light on. This was not the case for Ubuntu 13.10

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1247189] Re: Ubuntu freezes completely when switching user

2014-06-11 Thread Karim Hosein
Also, same outcome if I lock the terminal and instead of unlocking I
choose switch user.

Only way to switch user is to log out then log in as new user which is
not always the best thing under the circumstances of this particular
situation.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1247189] Re: Ubuntu freezes completely when switching user

2014-06-11 Thread Karim Hosein
I'm using a freshly installed Ubuntu 14.04 with kernel 3.13.0-24 and
3.13.0-29. As soon as I click on a different user I want to switch to in
the gearbox menu I get a black screen and nothing else is happening. I'm
still able to SSH to that box and top does not show any process taking
100% CPU. Alt+sysrq+b is able to reboot the system as is sudo shutdown
now -h

Tried different versions of the nVidia Driver including 331, 319, 310
and 304. This is an HP zBook with nVidia Quadro K3000M plus an embedded
Intel. With Hybrid graphics switched off (nVidia GPU only), this problem
occurs. With Hybrid Graphics switched on or auto, (Intel GPU active),
the GUI does not even start.

  Hi,

  I found a bug in Ubuntu 14.04 !

I tried to pair a bluetooth stereo headset (A2DP compatible). The
pairing process goes well, but after that I can't select it on the
  audio preferences.

When I select it, it only shows the last selected item options and don't do
anything. (he should switch to the headset output).
I must mention that it worked very well on Ubuntu 12.04.

This bug can be in the bluetooth stack or in unity-control-center or
maybe pulseaudio. I actually have no idea.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 75654] Re: deleted songs listed again when using library watch

2012-11-16 Thread Karim
I think the problem is (unless that is another problem) that Rhymthbox
never ever "forgets" what files were once in the directory! I removed my
music from the music folder and started RB: all the music was listed.
When I pressed play it cycled through the whole list, eventually marking
all as missing - but when I restarted RB, there they all were again! I
did a complete removal of RB and reinstalled, with the music STILL
removed from the source folder. And yet there it all was again. What
intrigues me is what exactly does "completely remove including
configuration files" mean??? I searched for "rhythmbox" after re-
removing and there were over 50 files. I'm a newbie so I have no idea
what they do, but I'm assuming some of them remember what once was in
the source directory - for ever - and some remember what the source
directory was set as. Perhaps I don't understand what a configuration
file is, but I would have assumed that this information would be deleted
by selecting "completely remove including configuration files".

Bug description:
Rhythmbox does not remember that I have removed (Edit -> Remove) a track from
the Library.
After selecting "Move to Trash" track is listed in "Missing Files" but the
file is not removed and is back in the Library (and even on the playlist it was
before) where I run Rhythmbox again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 958353] Re: Unity launcher and panel are still visible on the lock screen

2012-05-08 Thread Karim Moussa
I'm seeing the same behaviour of the Super key over/under the locked screen as
Robert. (#15)
But if I hold Super and press one of the number keys to start a program from
the launcher, it will not open, not even in the background.
I've observed this with radeon and i915 on two computers. Killing
gnome-screensaver and restarting it using a terminal doesn't resolve the issue.

Bug description:
After I lock the screen (ctrl+alt+L) I can still access a lot of information
about the user:
  - what programs he is running (for some reason dash can be revealed even in
locked screen)
  - what page is he browsing
  - if he has any new mails (indicators are visible as well)
  - if he is connected to network (indicators)
  - etc.

See also the screenshot (phone quality as PrtSc doesn't work with screen
locked).
I can reproduce this with no issues.
