  CURRENT STATUS:

Wily(15.10) could not work with and don't need Adam's dkms package 1.0
  or 1.1

Wily(15.10) has already fixed the driver part, and the firmware part
  is in progress.

For now, you guys could use 15.10(purge the ath10k-dkms if you tried
installing it), and make a copy of
  https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-
  firmware.git/plain/ath10k/QCA6174 into /lib/firmware/ath10k/

  15.10 will work in a week by a simple `apt upgrade`

Distros before 15.10(lower than 4.2 kernel) please keep using the
  dkms(which will be relocated soon)

Bug description:
  CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-6100U CPU @ 2.30GHz
GPU: Intel Corporation Device [8086:1916] (rev 07)
  Webcam: 0bda:57e3 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

  [Impact]
We noticed that webcam output on a wide range of skylake systems contained
corruption during certification testing of OEM machines which uses a certain
gstreamer pipeline. An example of the corruption is attached.

  [Test Case]
  1. Boot ubuntu 14.04.3 or 15.04 on a machine with a skylake intel GPU and a
webcam
  2. Login system and open a terminal.
  4. Execute '$ gst-launch-0.10 v4l2src ! xvimagesink'

  Expect result:
There should be no visual artifacts during video playing. The artifacts will
look like the attached video and be very obvious in the unfixed package.

  [Regression Potential]
Low, the fix is very minimal was included immediately after the 2.99.917
release was made. It consists of 2 parts, a small patch
(http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=cc9d7f603037d0d7eff346dd350f4d8b3f31)
and a configure option change. The configure option change was in lieu of
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=986cb2335c30792e24a7e2b930ecaa3fa051809a
which flipped it on unconditionally and only affects i915_bpo in both of these
releases as it requires a 4.0 or newer kernel (i915_bpo is a backport of i915
from 4.2 that is only used on skylake). Both of these changes are already in
wily's xserver-xorg-video-intel.

It has been tested on a large number of machines during certification,
and also by me on sandybridge, ivybridge, broadwell and skylake
  machines.

  CID: 201404-14986 Dell Precision M2800

On this I+A (AMD/ATI Mars XTX [Radeon HD 8790M] [1002:6606]) system,
the GStreamer autovideosink plugin does not work well with the
  proprietary fglrx driver (version 2:15.200-0ubuntu0.5)

  Steps:
  1. Install 14.04.3 + upgrade (3.19.0-30) + fglrx + Checkbox test suite
  2. Run "gst-launch-1.0 videotestsrc ! videoconvert ! autovideosink"
  3. Run "gst-launch-1.0 videotestsrc ! videoconvert ! ximagesink"

  Expected result:
  * A "Bar and static" video test screen will pop up.

  Actual result:
  * Only the command in step 3 will work, the command in step 2 does not, it
will cause X to crash for sometimes, error log could be found:

black screen when enabling rotation on a gpu screen

Bug description:
Running with the proprietary nvidia drivers in an optimus config
works, but enabling reflection or rotation on the intel screen causes
  a black screen to appear.

  [Impact]
   * Causes a black screen if rotation or reflection is enabled.

  [Test Case]
   * Run xrandr --output SOMEOUTPUT --rotation left
  - Expected: Screen should rotate, or the call should fail.
  - Bad behavior: Succeeds, but causes a black screen.

  [Regression Potential]
   * The affected codepaths have reflection and rotation disabled for gpu
screens. Another fix could be fixing reflection/rotation, but that will be more
involved and likely require driver fixes.

  [Other Info]
   * This issue is copied from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1308515 for vivid
and wily.

Bug description:
  CID: 201406-15271 Dell Latitude E5550

The microphone mute key does not work at all.

Key event cannot be captured by "xev" or "sudo showkey -s"
But keycode 248 would be returned when testing with sudo showkey -k

  Alsa info:
  http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=006099fcf08709c82a74dba986a907a602a868ab

Also note that with file at /etc/udev/hwdb.d/60-dell-mic-mute-hotkey.hwdb
generated with the following content:
  # Dell platform kernel driver
  keyboard:name:Dell WMI hotkeys:dmi:bvn*:bvr*:bd*:svnDell*:pn*
   KEYBOARD_KEY_150=f20 # Mic mute toggle

And with udev database updated: sudo udevadm hwdb -u

The microphone mute key works, but the mic mute led does not work.
(Also the icon is not correct, which show a speaker instead of a mic)

Bug description:
When trying to open the AMD Catalyst Control Center in Administrative
mode by using the launcher found in dash, you will be ask to enter
password for it, but it always shows "su: authentication failure" and
  exit.

  Steps:
  1. Install 14.04 on a I+A system, boot to desktop
  2. Try to open the Control Center in administrative mode by searching AMD in
dash
  3. Enter password

  Expected result:
  * AMD Catalyst Control Center opened

  Actual result:
  * The authentication windows closed with failure message

This bug will be a blocker to 14.04 certificate for all I+A (or even
A+A) GPU switchable systems, since user won't be able to switch
between GPUs without using the command line commands.

  WORKAROUND:
run "sudo amdcccle" in the terminal, you will be able to switch between GPUs.

  Exec should be "amdxdg-su -c /usr/bin/amdcccle" in ubuntu-amdccclesu.desktop.
It must be full patch, otherwise it will fail to be launched.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 713950] Re: Improvement for zh-tw fontconfig settings of language-selector

2014-04-08 Thread Keng-Yu Lin
@Gunnar

the patch in comment 21 is not in Trusty. can you merge the patch for
Trusty?

** Changed in: language-selector (Ubuntu)
   Status: Fix Released => Triaged

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop
Packages, which is subscribed to language-selector in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/713950

Title:
Improvement for zh-tw fontconfig settings of language-selector

Status in “language-selector” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: language-selector

Now the setting of 69-language-selector-zh-tw.conf picks up the Latin
fonts first, then fallback to Chinese fonts. By default, ubuntu only
installs DejaVu font family and WenQuanYi Micro Hei font.

DejaVu is a high quality Latin fontfamily which has ExtraLight,
Condensed, Book, Condensed Italic...and many more styles. WenQuanYi
Micro Hei font covers Latin, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, but only
has Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic styles.

However, there is no need to pick up the Latin fonts first. I am here
to suggest a better configuration by the reasons below:

  1. As far as I have known, WenQuanYi Micro Hei font provied all the
typefaces which DejaVu fontfamily covers, but lack of Condensed,
  EtralLight and some other styles.

  2. The order of languages most used by Chinese (Taiwan) users is:
  Chinese > English > Japanese > Korean > other Western languages(eg.
French, Spanish, German, Russia...). Ideally, the system should select
the best fonts having Chinese (Taiwan) characters first, then go to
the best Latin fonts to meet Chinese (Taiwan) users' need.

  3. There is no evidence indicating mixing Latin characters provided by
Latin fonts with Chinese characters provided by CJK fonts will be the
best default experience. Actullay, that will sacrifice the consistency
when there is Latin and CJK text displaying on the screen at the same
time, because Latin characters and CJK characters are in different
flavors. However, many users insist on using DejaVu fontfamily to
display the Latin characters. The same visual appearance is reserved
  by the proposed configuration.

  3. Selecting fonts including Chinese (Taiwan) characters first in the
configuration provides the best compatibilty for Chinese characters
with those programs which do not follow the fallback machenism of
fontconfig, such as Evince, to be readable. The programs like that
only pick up the first font, DejaVu font, and displaying squares for
Chinese characters. With this improved configuration, the problem
still can be found out by the "Latin characters" part which should be
DejaVu but not WenQuanYi Micro Hei.

  4. People still have the freedom to edit the configuration or add new
rules, there is no harm selecting those font strings including Chinese
(Taiwan) characters first in zh_TW configuration.

Please consider to choose the CJK fonts before the Latin fonts.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1105171] Re: X.Org is stuck in a loop on resume from S3

2013-02-18 Thread Keng-Yu Lin
On some AMD graphic card, I can reproduce the issue even with the
xserver-xorg-lts-precise and quantal backported kernel (3.5.x).

The 100% Xorg CPU consumption can also be reproduced by logging out from
the desktop system (back to lightdm) besides suspending the system.

Both scenarios happens with high possibility (though not always, but
usually in dozens of times).

BTW, the virtual terminal switching leads to blank screen.

When the Xorg occupied 100% CPU, ctrl+c in gdb, the backtrace:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1105171] Re: X.Org is stuck in a loop on resume from S3

2013-02-04 Thread Keng-Yu Lin
To correct comment #7, I re-did the fwts s3 test with the 3.5.0-17.28
kernel, the 100% CPU consumption of the Xorg process is observed today.
This usually happens in a few cycles of suspending and resuming.

thing, except that upower indicator reports it as a regular
laptop/system battery, and even proposing to power off my desktop
system if the keyboard battery happens to drain completely. That is
unacceptable behaviour. I rectified it by manually editing settings-
daemon power settings with dconf-editor, so the critical action was
set to "nothing". (The regular power system settings GUI would NOT let
me select this value, which is pretty strange.)

Bug description:

This should mostly be fixed for Natty and might get backported to
  earlier releases as well.

For Precise (12.04) this is again broken for unity-2d (as of 17.7.2012
unity-2d 5.12.0-0ubuntu1.1).
Note that if the window has a scrollbar, you can grab that to resize the
window. If not, you are stuck with the 1px border. Workaround: NONE KNOWN (see
comment 320)?

  *

  *Blueprint for Natty, Ubuntu 11.04:

  https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection-
  dx-n-resizing-windows

  Work items1 * Make sure the new resize grip fits in current applications;
doesn't interfere with anything. We should make some noise about this during
the Natty cycle so people keep their eyes open and file bugs.
2 * Invisible window resize area - around 3px invisible area to allow resize
on all sides.

  *

Working grip backported to gtk2 already available in ppa :
  https://launchpad.net/~bratsche/+archive/gtk

  *

  Workaround: Edit /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/metacity-1/metacity-
theme-1.xml. Set the following values in frame_geometry_normal as
  desired:

  Binary package hint: metacity

  - The issue has been an issue for users (especially of large) screens
for several releases- Trackpad users seem to be particularly impacted
by this- The issue appears to have been significantly aggravated in
Lucid by changing the border width from 3 pixels to 1 pixel

The window borders in metacity are far too thin to be used for
comfortable window resizing, and resize handles are not available in
all applications (or even most). In fact, of all the windows I have
open right now, not a single one of them has a resize handle. The
result is that I get a lot of "misses" when I try to drag a window
border, which usually results in my clicking on the wrong window
altogether. The best fix for this usability bug is to create an
"invisible" region around each non-maximized window about 4px thick
that can be used for resizing (in addition to the visible border). Or
perhaps there should be a border thickness option on the System >
Preferences > Windows dialog (although the default thickness should
still be increased considerably). Ideally all windows would also have
a resize handle but I realize that these have to be application

  WORKAROUND 1:
Run CCSM and under "Ubuntu Unity Plugin" change the key binding for "Key to
show the launcher" to something else (e.g. Super+U). Then log out and in again.
As long as no compiz plugin is bound to the single Super key any more, compiz
will no longer block other apps from binding to Super+other_keys.

  WORKAROUND 2:
  1. Write a script or figure out the command to do the action you want.
  2. Run ccsm.
  3. Enable the "Commands" plugin
  4. In the Commands settings, fill in the command line you want and bind it to
key Super+P.
Now Unity will run your specified command on Super+P, but still handle the
Super key as usual.

  [Precise SRU Justification]

[Impact] Any shortcut with Super, Hyper, Meta virtual modifiers does
  not work

[Test Case] Attach an external monitor to the laptop, press Super+P,
it should do the video switch as this function is implemented in
gnome-settings-daemon. A patch in comment #12 is now accepted
upstream and a test package with that patch is available in comment
#14. From the test result, the patch at least fixes Unity-2D.

[Regression Potential] The patch is accepted upstream and is also
cherry-picked in the gnome-3-4 branch of g-s-d git tree. g-s-d version
in Precise is 3.4.2. So the risk of regression should be rather low.

[Other] I prepare a debdiff in comment #31 for convenience. I hope the
patch can be in both Quantal and Precise.

  ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
Using : 12.04 Beta 1, updated. and Unity.

  In 11.10 clicking:

  - the function key (Fn) + (F1) allowed to switch between the laptop
  screen and the external monitor.

After upgrading to 12.04 this no more works and instead I get an
  unexpected behavior: see the video.

I think from diff from 3.4.2-0ubuntu4 to 3.4.2-0ubuntu5
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/gnome-settings-
daemon_3.4.2-0ubuntu4_3.4.2-0ubuntu5.diff.gz), the patch is not added in
debian/patches/series.

For the g-s-d part, the patch has arrived in the upstream git. So I
would like it have it in Ubuntu too. (At least it fixes Ubuntu-2d).

debdiff attached, I will need sponsoring too.

with the g-s-d package in my PPA installed and log in Unity-2D, the
super+p works well as it makes the video switch.

So this could be another bug in Unity causing this.

** Also affects: unity (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)
   Status: In Progress => Triaged

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 950160] Re: Keyboard function key to switch between monitors no more works

2012-05-24 Thread Keng-Yu Lin
After a few rounds of testing, I think there is different result to run
g-s-d with and without the "--debug" argument.

This is what I do:
  kill -9 `pgrep "gnome-settings"`; gnome-settings-daemon --debug

And then press the video switch hotkey or super+p and observe if the
xrandr-plugin is called. There will be log like:

(gnome-settings-daemon:21343): xrandr-plugin-DEBUG: applying
=== Applying Configuration Configuration ===
  Clone: false
  Output: (null) attached to VGA1
 status: off
 width: -1
 height: -1
 rate: -1
 primary: false
 position: -1 -1
Output: BenQ 22" attached to HDMI1
 status: on
 width: 1920
 height: 1080
 rate: 60
 primary: true
 position: 0 0
  Output: (null) attached to DP1
 status: off
 width: -1
 height: -1
 rate: -1
 primary: false
 position: -1 -1
(gnome-settings-daemon:21343): xrandr-plugin-DEBUG: done handling fn-f7

However when testing without killing the g-s-d process first and without the
--debug argument. The video switch does not work.

This could be a race of grabbing the key or some timing issue as it
seems.

You will have to restart gnome-settings-daemon to make it work. The simplest
way is to log out and log in again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 950160] Re: Keyboard function key to switch between monitors no more works

2012-05-18 Thread Keng-Yu Lin
Further investigating this issue could occur in
  gtk+3.0.4.1/gdk/x11/gdkkeys-x11.c : gdk_x11_keymap_map_virtual_modifiers()

   *state |= 1 << i;
without unsettling the original state value.

The attached patch is confirmed to make the super+P key works.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 950160] Re: Keyboard function key to switch between monitors no more works

2012-05-16 Thread Keng-Yu Lin
It is likely that the key generates two key codes (Windows key + P) and
the windows key triggers the Unity launcher.

Personally I found that Super+P key combination for switching the video
output no longer works in 12.04.

It will be very appreciated if anyone can review the attached patch, and
it fixes for me.

A g-s-d package with the patch is uploaded to
https://launchpad.net/~lexical/+archive/gsd for testing too.
