2017-10-27 Thread Matthew Gregg
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1720159 ***

  [ Description ]

Google changed their expected date format to fix a bug which libgdata
was working around. We don't need the workaround any more.

  [ Fix ]

This is fixed in 0.16.1. I think we should take this update, as it
includes other bugfixes too. I think it falls under the GNOME MRE. If
not, we can cherry-pick this one fix.

  This is in vivid already.

  [ QA ]

If you get the below error, check that upgrading to the new libgdata
  fixes it for you.

  [ Original Report ]

  Hello,

When trying to synchronise Google Contacts with Evolution, I am
  getting the error message:

The backend for this address book was unable to parse this query.
GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._e_2dclient_2derror_2dquark.Code16:

My system is Ubunru 14.10, Evolution 3.12.6.

Before updating to Ubuntu 14.10 (in 14.04) it worked without an error.

I should clarify that if I launch an app from the shell, where the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629251] Re: Some app-indicators not showing menus

2017-03-29 Thread Matthew Gregg
Running up to date 17.04 and I also have this issue. In my user env
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity is already set, but Electron based apps do not
show a tray/indicator icon. I attempted to set this in /etc/profile.d/
which worked and I had tray/indicator icons, but had the effect of
breaking various Unity things like the control/settings app. Seems like
apps launched from the gnome-session are missing this env?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1631095] Re: pushed dns servers not being used

2016-11-01 Thread Matthew Gregg
Not sure if I have the same issue, but I have hard set DNS servers in
the OpenVPN connection. On first connect it works and I can resolve
internal hosts, but if I reconnect the VPN connection, I can no longer
resolve until I restart the dnsmasq process. It will restart and I can
resolve hosts again.

Title:
pushed dns servers not being used

Status in network-manager-openvpn package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After the upgrade from yenial to yakkety, the internal DNS servers
(pushed by the openvpn server) are not being used by dnsmasq.

  Symptom:

I connect via openvpn (called from network manager), the connection is
established successfully but INTERNAL hostnames cannot be resolved.

The system itself is using dnsmasq.

I then have to kill the running dnsmasq instance. After it's been
(automagically) restarted, internal DNS names can be resolved.

Bug description:
This is something that wouldn't happen before upgrading from Ubuntu
  14.10 / Nautilus 3.10 to Ubuntu 15.04 / Nautilus 3.14:

I have a proper HOME partition and most User folders there (Documents,
Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos) are merely SYMLINKS to folders
with the same names in a DATA partition which is mounted automatically
at startup with proper options in fstab.

Now -- unlike before -- when I attempt to delete an item in one of
these folders after I open it via the SYMLINK I get the message "...
can't be put in the trash. Do you want to delete it immediately?"
although it is immediately moved to the Trash after I open the folder
via the Data partition in the sidebar. (Naturally there are no such
problems with items in other (real) items in my Home folder.

Nautilus now seems confused about / not knowing where to move the item
in question; to the Trash folder in the Home partition (symlink
location) or the Data partition (real item location).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 587008] Re: Pulseaudio not properly shutdown on logout

2014-06-04 Thread Matthew Gregg
Looks like if you enable load-module module-x11-xsmp in
/etc/pulse/default.pa the daemon will properly shutdown at logout.
However, unity-greeter(lightdm) also tries to spawn pulseaudio and
doesn't have a session-manager attached which causes the daemon to
continually crash and respawn with module.c: Failed to load module
module-x11-xsmp (argument: ): initialization failed.

This doesn't just happen in lxpanel, I have a similar issue in Unity.
This is an upgrade from 13.10. See attached screenshot.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1245474] Re: [regression] on login screen, monitor stays on forever

2014-01-24 Thread Matthew Gregg
Workaround works for me as well, but seems to trump the Turn off screen
when inactive setting for my desktop session. I have that set for 10
minutes and immediate lock, but with this enabled it will blank the
screen at the scripts timeout and will not lock.

I am not sure which package sould be responsible for that, probably

Previously, up to raring, when you left the computer alone while it
was showing the login screen (lightdm in my case), the monitor would
turn off after five or ten minutes. Since upgrade from raring to
saucy, monitor stays on indefinitely, after boot and after logout
likewise. This is on two machines, one a notebook with Intel graphics,
another desktop with Radeon using open source driver.

I guess maybe setting up DPMS got broken in the process of migration to Mir
and back to xorg.

I am only saving the group password. The non-group password is unsaved,
since it is provided via an RSA key fob. I can confirm the group
password is saved in the keyring as a VPN IPSec secret

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1043043] Re: Prompts for both the user and group passwords even though group password has been saved

2012-10-24 Thread Matthew Gregg
Reading over bug #321378, I added and saved a bogus password for my VPN
account, it was saved in the keyring as VPN Xauth password along with
the group password VPN IPsec secret. With both set, I am no longer
prompted for any login information, but of course the connection fails
since it's not using a valid password.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1043043] Re: Prompts for both the user and group passwords even though group password has been saved

2012-10-24 Thread Matthew Gregg
Sorry for all the comments, but I just worked around the issue by
editing, /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/MY_CONNECTION and
setting:

[vpn]
ipsec-secret-type=save
IPSec secret-flags=0

and adding:

[vpn-secrets]
IPSec secret=MYSECRET

I am no longer prompted for anything other than the password when
connecting. So obviously we have an issue with NM reading just the group
password(IPSec secret) from the keyring.

One last comment. I noticed that with the [vpn-secrets] block in place,
editing and saving the group password in the NM GUI updates the config
file with the changes. It no longer uses the keyring, but works.

Title:
Prompts for both the user and group passwords even though group
  password has been saved

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Using up to date 12.10. Despite the group password having been saved, I am
being prompted to enter both my user password and the group password upon
initiating a VPN connection. This is a new issue with 12.10. Thinking this
might be related to the the 12.04 to 12.10 upgrade, I have tried creating a new
VPN account, but got the same result. VPN type is Cisco Compatible VPN(vpnc).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1026395] Re: vpnc fails with get_secrets: assertion `secrets_idx SECRETS_REQ_LAST' failed

This bug looks very similar to one I reported, #1043043. Was this
resolved or not? I have confirmed that my group password is indeed
saved, but NM continues to prompt for it.

Title:
  NetworkManager submenus sometimes unpopulated

Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Submenus in Network Manager are sometimes unusable as they are not
populated. This happens both with the list of available networks and
with the VPN list. When the bug happens, it occurs for *both* the
wireless submenu and the VPN menu. I know there are entries for those
submenus as I can see them with other network UI mechanisms. The
  issue is intermittent.

  Expected:
Dropping down the menu then hovering over the submenu trigger-point (example:
More networks) shows the additional expected entries (example: more wifi
networks to choose from).

  Actual:
Dropping down the menu and hovering over the submenu trigger displays a
submenu but the submenu has nothing in it and is unusable.

Using up to date 12.10. Despite the group password having been saved, I am
being prompted to enter both my user password and the group password upon
initiating a VPN connection. This is a new issue with 12.10. Thinking this

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 983583] Re: NM indicator does not show VPN submenu on login

I had this issue in 12.04 and continue in 12.10. Restarting the applet

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1043043] [NEW] VPN prompting for both the user and group password

2012-08-28 Thread Matthew Gregg
Public bug reported:

Using up to date 12.10. Despite having having the group password saved,
I am being prompted to enter both my user password and the group
password upon initiating a VPN connection. This is a new issue with
12.10. Thinking this might be related to the the 12.04 to 12.10 upgrade
I have tried creating a new VPN account with the same results. VPN type
is Cisco Compatible VPN(vpnc)

Network manager does not save the VPNC passwords properly (when the
button is checked) so the passwords (user and group secret) must be
re-entered every time network-manager decides to randomly terminate my
wireless connection, which it does frequently.

Perhaps this is a problem of network-manager not talking to gnome-
keyring properly, or XFCE being unable to access the keyring?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1027991] Re: Show media/attachments by default

2012-07-24 Thread Matthew Gregg
Right now, you have to click the Show button to view
attachments/media. I want that to be viewable by default or a preference
for the setting. If that isn't something you really want to do in the
messages streams, it absolutely makes sense to enable in the attachment
view. Also, as I have been paying attention to how this works currently,
I noticed that any media that has been shown(toggle clicked) will be
hidden anytime the stream is scrolled. It would be nice if that would
stick..

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 809500] Re: gnome-terminal not remembering menubar preference

2011-09-26 Thread Matthew Gregg
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 787465 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/787465

Is this really a dup of bug #787465? This has nothing to do with the
global menu. Perhaps the addition of the global menu causes this bug?

This bug may equally be an issue with the Nvidia GLX drivers or Xorg.

When my laptop is configured with the following excerpt from
xorg.conf, the gnome-screensaver unlock dialog does not appear. I
haven't tested if the dialog box appears if a second monitor/projector
  is connected.

Further symptoms include two screensavers seeming to run at the same
time, sometimes one screensaver briefly appears over the top of the
  other.

I have disabled the ConnectedMonitor Option and all below it as a

I have the same issue with dual monitors. I hardly ever see the gnome
screensaver unlock dialog when locked as well. I just enter my password
blindly with one screen black/blank and the other showing what was on
the screen before locked.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 836612] Re: There is no option to configure laptop lid action

2011-08-31 Thread Matthew Gregg
I am still not sure if suspend has just gotten much more unreliable on
my laptop in 11.10 or if it is an artifact of the missing lid close
option/functionality. I did find this script
http://fedora.rasmil.dk/blog/?p=208 that adds gsettings for lid close
actions. This seems to effect gnome-power-managers actions on lid close,
but suspend still seems less reliable than 11.10. By unreliable I mean
sometimes I have a normal suspend, then at times it tries to suspend,
but the screen back-light, disk, fan stay running, but the desktop does
lock, wifi disconnects and goes to a blank screen.
