  Starting dash or hud with mouse over launcher desaturates all icons

Status in Ayatana Design:

Status in Unity:

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  It seems that the desired behavior is that with an overlay open (dash,
  hud), launcher icons will be desaturated if the mouse is NOT over the
  launcher, and saturated otherwise.

  However, if you move the mouse over the launcher, and then open the
  dash or hud, launcher icons remain desaturated (the act of opening the
  overlay desaturates them). If you want them saturated, you need to
  move the mouse outside the launcher area and then back over the
  launcher area.

  See attached video for a demonstration.

  functionality. Currently there are two options in the 'desktop' menu
  that are duplications of 12.04 launcher functionality. These are:

  - The 'Bookmarks' menu. This has now been replaced by the Nautilus quicklist
  - The "New Window" option in the "File" menu. Creation of new windows is
handled by the Launcher, and this label is not informative.

  The request is to remove these two items from the 'desktop' menu

  Make Launcher left of screen reveal more responsive and less prone to
  false positives. One approach to achieving this could be requiring
  the user to push the pointer a certain distance *past* the left edge

  A design prototype has now been published which explores the push past the
edge of the display to reveal the Launcher. This prototype also covers how this
behaviour works in a multi-monitor setup. See the design blog for more details:

  the alt + tab pressed quickly (without the switcher showing) seems to
  have some inconsistencies.

  First test case, which seems to have the right behavior:
  1. Have a chromium instance, and 2 thundebird windows (a composer window and
the main window) on the same worspace
  2. I can quickly alt + tab between the 2 last windows like the main window
and the composer
  -> this behavior seems right

  1. Now, same configuration, but the two last windows I want to switch between
is the chromium window and the thunderbird composer (for some copy and paste,
for instance).
  2. Make sure the thunderbird composer window is focused
  3. Then focus the chromium window
  4. press alt + tab quickly (so the switcher does not show)

  Current incorrect behaviour:
  - The thunderbird composer window gets the focus (correct) and the
thunderbird main window is placed on top of the chromium window in the z order
stack (incorrect)

  Correct desired behaviour:
  - The thunderbird composer window gets the focus
  - The z-order of all other windows is unaffected.

Bug description:
  As reported on unity-design mailing-list (https://lists.launchpad.net

  Application Lens like "logout", "restart","shut down" can confuse the
  user about the nature of Applications.

  While these commands could have been still useful for keyboard input,
  now some of them are accessible from the HUD, and the HUD is likely to

Bug description:
  When I frequently select a particular application in Unity's
  application search interface, I expect that application to appear at
  the top of subsequent matching searches. For example, suppose that I
  press the Super key and then type "trans" into the search box. On my
  system, the following three options appear, in order:

  1. Arista Transcoder
  2. Transmission BitTorrent Client (Qt)
  3. Handbrake

  I almost always select Transmission from this list, yet the search
  always returns Arista as the first result. I would expect that after a
  few times launching Transmission and not Arista, Unity would learn to
  present Transmission as the first choice, just like Gnome-Do, Kupfer,
  Quicksilver (Mac), the KDE Alt+F2 dialog, and others. This would seem
  to be a great use case for Zeitgeist.

  -
  Desired Solution:

  Currently in the Dash relevancy ranking uses the quality of the string
  match, e.g. exact matches are ranked higher than partial matches,
  etc... Currently when the relevancy is the same e.g. there are two
  exact string matches, the results are then ordered A-Z

  The change request is to change this second tier of ranking to be
  based on usage, e.g. when there are multiple exact matches, within the
  exact matches the results should be ordered based on frequency of use.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: software-center

  It seems quite a common case where after clicking "install" the user
  is prompted first with the user password and then with the "add to
  laucher" option dialog. I was wondering if the second dialog could be
  avoided providing a way to add it to launcher while it's
  downloading/installing (ie. check box which the user can modify but
  might not).

  -
  Desired solution:

  When a application is installed from the Software Centre it's icon
  should be automatically pinned to the Launcher. The option in the
  software centre to "Add [app name] to the launcher?" after installing
  a application should be removed.

Bug description:
  On a dual-monitor setup (Latitude e5410, Intel video card), new window
  positions and resize behaviour is erratic and makes interaction very
  difficult. One example is:

  1. When a window opens on the smaller display (1440x900), it is sized
  to (I guess) fit in the other one (1600x1050). This means that every
  time I have to find a visible corner (or drag one into view with
  alt+click), set the cursor on it (difficult job with a touchpad, the
  cursor doesn't snap to edges as well as I'd like) and resize.

  Desired Solution:

  - A window should never open into a state where any part of the window
  is off the display into which it is opened (all four sides of the
  window must always be visible on the monitor where it was opened).
  The exception is fixed size windows, or windows that have minimum
  heights or widths, these windows should fit on to the display into
  which they are opened when possible.

Bug description:
  Reduce the spread delay for all items other than the initial item the
  select lands on after alt-tab opens. After the user moves the select
  off it's opening position, spread delay should be shortened. This
  change is because a longer spread delay is only required for the
  initial item to allow the user time to scan the items in alt-tab
  without being disrupted. The spread delay on all other item can be
  shorter, which should give a more responsive feel.

  --
  Note from User Testing:

  In user testing, participants did not find the spread because they
  moved between applications too quickly. When I pointed out the spread
  to them, they commented that the delay was too long. Power users said
  that it would be faster for them to find what they were looking for
  without the spread.

  Re-iterating my blog comment after the design team asked for feedback
  on the per-monitor launcher feature:
  http://design.canonical.com/2012/01/launcher-reveal-
  prototype/#comment-23596

  I regularly use a multi-monitor setup. I want to be able to move the
  mouse between monitors unimpeded. And I want to be able to move
  windows between monitors unimpeded.

  I don't particularly want or need per-monitor launchers. I understand
  some users do, and if it's there I'm not going to complain if it
  doesn't get in my way. Causing the mouse to get stuck between
  monitors all the time, however, does get in the way.

  I just want some way to make sure my mouse never gets stuck at the
  edge of a monitor. Even if it's a setting hidden away in CCSM, I'm
  fine with that.

  If there's a combination of numbers in the CCSM control panel that
  ensures my mouse never gets stuck, please let me know. My experiments
  with different settings didn't reveal anything.

  Proposed solution:

  Provide option 'Sticky edges' ON/OFF in Displays panel.
  This option is only displayed if there are multiple displays.
  OFF disables the edge hold effect on all edges, except the left edge of
displays where an auto-hiding Launcher is located.

  Please see addendum to System Settings specification:

Bug description:
  The placement of the options 'Launcher placement' and 'Sticky edges' is
misleading, as they are grouped with other *per-display* options such as
Resolution and Rotation.
  As these options globally affect the entire display setup, they should be
separated from the per-display options.

  The suggested solution is shown in the attached image
  'globalOptionsPlacement.png'

  Following the 'Rotation' drop-down list there is a vertical gap of 12px.
  There then follows a 2px wide rule, #B8B8B8 RGB(184, 184, 184) for the top
colour and #FCFCFC RGB(252, 252, 252) for the bottom colour. If there is
already a separator widget which provides this type of appearance, it can be
used instead.
  Another vertical gap of 12px follows the rule, followed by the 'Launcher
placement' drop-down list.

  Please note: In the attached image, the labels shown are incorrect.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: unity

  When the launcher is set to "Show launcher with mouse on left of
  screen" (the new default), then clicking on the left edge of a screen
  doesn't bring focus on a maxmised app.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Ensure launcher is set to "Show launcher with mouse on left of screen" and
"Dodge windows" (not dodge active windows)
  2) Open Firefox, make sure its maximized.
  3) Open GNOME Terminal, make sure it isn't maximized, and move it near the
right edge of the screen so that there's some space between the terminal and
the left edge of screen. The launcher should be hidden now.
  4) Move the mouse pointer to the *extreme* left edge of screen and click.

  What should happen:
  Firefox should get selected. e.g. if you click on the far left edge *before*
the launcher appears the window you are clicking on should be brought into
focus. However as soon as the Launcher starts to slide out the focus should
switche to the Launcher (as happens currently)

  What happens:
  Firefox doesn't get selected, and if the pointer isn't moved away, the
launcher un-hides.

  Background colorization should use a different heuristic

Bug description:
  NEW ITERATION:
  What is currently defective by design is the way unity is put on top of the
background windows. It's a simple colored layer placed above stuff, with some
nice blur to makes things more readable but it carries all the issues of
washing out the resultant color of the dash, making it less crisp and vibrant.

  A nice trick is to play with the underlying background windows (the
  damage area/pixmap taken from Compiz), blend them with colors, and
  place the resultant below the dash.

  The steps are these:
  1) Take the underlying pixmap
  2) Blend this pixmap with a tweaked average color using OVERLAY operator
  3) Blur the pixmap (as we currently do)
  4) Put this new obtained pixmap below the dash
  5) At this point, the dash could be just a solid dark layer even with a lower
opacity

  We might tweak the steps further, but the essential bits will remain
  the same because what will make the big difference is the blending
  described in step 2, that we are not doing now.

  ~~~
  ORIGINAL BUG (FIXED Cimi):
  The background of the BFB, Workspace Switcher, Lens, and Trash launcher icons
tiles need to use a higher saturation of the average background colour of the
wallpaper.
  Currently the colour is not as prominent as shown in the design,
  compare the attached image "unity_desktop_24_06_11_02.png" to the
  current implementation (when using the default wallpaper).   In the
  exact visual effect we are trying to achieve the colour takes on much
  more prominence.
  Desired resolution:
  - Increase the colour saturation in the BFB, Workspace Switcher, Lens, and
Trash launcher icons
  Desired solution:
  - Review the "file_lens_17_08_11_02.png" visual design that is
  attached to this bug.  This design  shows the expanded and collapsed
  states of both the Dash category headers and search filter sections,
  and also the exact desired positioning and alignment (basically the
  "See more... text is baselined, and the expand/contract arrows are
  always centred relative to the directly proceeding text).
  - Adjust size/position of dash elements until they exactly match the
  design. This can be tested by overlaying the attached design with some
  opacity on top of a screenshot of the dash in GIMP.
  After scrolling to the bottom of the Dash using the cursor keys,
  navigating back upwards using the cursor keys is broken.
  To Reproduce:
  1. Open the Dash and go to the App lens
  2. Expand the "Installed" category header
  3. using the 'down arrow' cursor key, scroll to the bottom of the results
  4. when at the bottom of the results, press the 'up arrow' cursor key a few
times
  What currently incorrectly happens:
  - after pressing up a couple of time, the focus magically jumps back to the
top of the dash
  Desired correct behaviour:
  - pressing the 'up arrow' cursor key should be the exact opposite of pressing
the 'down arrow' cursor key.  The focus should move one step at a time and
should not magically jump.
Bug description:
  What happens:
  If an application has multiple windows, clicking once on the launcher
  icon, or selecting a app icon in Alt-Tab raises all windows.
  This bug is only present in Unity3d, Unity2d currently has the correct
  behaviour.  This bug must be fixed as early as possible in Precise
  because it is not acceptable for clicking on a Launcher icon to do
  different things in Unity2d and Unity3d.
  What should happen:
  If an application has multiple windows, clicking once on the launcher
  icon should raise only the most recently focussed window (that is not
  currently minimised).
  If an application has multiple windows, selecting a Alt-Tab icon
  should raise only the most recently focussed window (that is not
  currently minimised).
  Excluding windows "that are not currently minimised" means that if a
  application (say 'Terminal') has two windows open (A and B), and the
  user minimises one window (window A) and then focuses a different
  application, if the user clicks on the 'Terminal' launcher icon (or
  selects the 'Terminal' icon in Alt-Tab), window B should be brought to
  the front of the Z stack and window A should remain minimised.
  This behaviour occurs on the latest build of 12.04 beta and unity 5.6.0.
  See this comment for a description of what should happen vs. what is actually
happening:
http://design.canonical.com/2012/03/task-switching-in-ubuntu-and-a-introduction-to-the-spread/#comment-27356
  *IMPORTANT NOTE* - This bug must be fixed for both Alt-Tab and the
  Launcher at the same time
Bug description:
  When the Dash is open and there is a maximised app in the background,
  the top bar background should not disappear.
  To reproduce:
  1. Open any window and make it maximised.
  2. Open the Dash
  What you currently see that is incorrect:
  - The background of the top bar disappears showing the background wallpaper
in the position where the top bar was.
  What you should see:
  - The background of the top bar (just the dark bar without any emblems or app
title, effectively just the top bar texture) should remain in place, and you
should *NOT* be able to see the background wallpaper.  For clarity, this change
does not change the dash in any way, we are only changing the background
*behind* the dash.
  Desired solution:
  - *ONLY* in the case where there is a maximised window, the top bar
background should be displayed when the Dash is open.
  - When there is no maximised window the top bar background should not be
displayed (as currently happens)
  - The attached images "ambiance_topbar.png" and "radiance_topbar.png" show
*exactly* the effect we are trying to achieve
Bug description:
  I am using precise and up-to-date software packages plus the gnome3-team PPA
packages.
  As far as I know, in the appearance section of GNOME Control Center, 4
wallpapers should be displayed in a row.
  But if you don't use overlay-scrollbars, the layout doesn't fit the width of
four wallpaper icons anymore, and so a "line break" after three thumbnails is
generated (which looks ugly gecause of the unused space between the third
thumbnail and the scrollbar).
  (I am using Adwaita from gnome-themes-standard 3.4.)
  I added a screenshot to better explain what I mean :)
Til, I've attached the four PPDs that we use (historically it was
difficult to use the PPD features, so we made queues with different
defaults so that older clients could select some basic features)
  "Finishing" and "Color" settings are in "Advanced" instead of their
  own Print dialog tabs
Status in “gtk+3.0” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Bug description:
  cups-driver-gutenprint 5.2.7-2ubuntu4, Ubuntu 11.10
  1. Connect a Canon c5035i.
  2. Open the GTK Print dialog for an application.
  3. Navigate to the "Color" tab.
  4. Navigate to the "Finishing" tab.
  5. Navigate to the "Advanced" tab, and scroll down.
  What you see:
  3. The "Color" tab contains only "Color Mode: Printer Default / Black and
White / Color".
  4. The "Finishing" tab contains only "Booklet Printing: Off / On".
  5. The "Advanced" tab contains 13 "Finishing" settings (Tray Switch, Saddle
Stitch, Binding Location, etc), and 9 "Color" settings (Pure Black Text, Black
Overprint, RGB Source Profile, etc).
  What you should see:
  5. All the Finishing settings are in the "Finishing" tab, and all the Color
settings are in the "Color" tab.
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 944094] Re: Ctrl+Tab does not move focus through tabs in dialog boxes
2012-04-02 Thread Nick Rundy
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 388508 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/388508
@Jeremy Bicha
I'm just trying to bring this to you guys' attention. Whatever you guys
think is best, I'll support. I just wanted to present this viewpoint so
that it was at least represented. Windows often does not have the best
way of doing things and so shouldn't always be copied. But Precise is
bringing in so many other Windows shortcuts, I thought Ctrl+Tab should
be pointed out.
  pressing Ctrl+Tab should move the focus between these two tabs. Yet
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 944094] Re: Ctrl+Tab does not move focus through tabs in dialog boxes
2012-04-02 Thread Nick Rundy
Part of the problem is that Windows users don't know about Ctrl+Page Up.
Windows only uses Ctrl+Tab. And since everything else in the windows
world also does (eg., Firefox, Chrome, Opera, all Windows programs,
etc), users never learn that Ctrl+Page Up exists. I just saw a bug
report somewhere else for a Linux application where the user was
requesting a Ctrl+Tab shortcut and the developer told them about
Ctrl+Page Up and the user had no idea this shortcut existed because he
was a Windows veteran and thought Ctrl+Tab was the universal shortcut
for moving between tabs.
A big impetus for this bug report is the fact that with Precise Ubuntu
has essentially incorporated almost all the Windows keyboard-shortcuts
into Ubuntu. Since every other shortcut is going to be virtually
identical to Windows, people will assume Ctrl+Tab will move them between
tabs. And when it doesn't they will assume no shortcut exists to do this
(they will not consider that another keyboard shortcut exists to do the
same thing).
Food for thought.
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 795332] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in app_chooser_online_get_default_ready_cb()
2012-03-29 Thread Nick Jenkins
If the upstream bug is correct, then that upstream bug is a dupe of:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=649121 , which was marked as
RESOLVED FIXED 2 months ago. Perhaps this should be marked as RESOLVED
FIXED upstream? Also bug 864249 is marked as a dupe of that upstream
bug, so alternatively perhaps this bug is a dupe of that one?
Deleting all my bookmarks cleared this up for me.  Thanks for the
I really only had maybe like 50 bookmarks, maybe less.  I feel like I
hit the delete key about 30 times, perhaps.
Bug description:
  I keep firefox on its own desktop, and switch to it via a keybinding.
  This problem manifests itself even when switching focus via mouse on
  the same desktop, though.
  Basically every time I come back to firefox, it appears to ignore my
  the mouse cursor does not change in response to hover events.
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 965073] [NEW] firefox is unresponsive for the first 10-15 seconds after it gains focus
2012-03-26 Thread Nick Moffitt
Public bug reported:
I keep firefox on its own desktop, and switch to it via a keybinding.
This problem manifests itself even when switching focus via mouse on the
same desktop, though.
Basically every time I come back to firefox, it appears to ignore my
input for a good long while.  I am not seeing any swapping, and even the
mouse cursor does not change in response to hover events.
The effect goes away when I restart the browser, but slowly returns the
longer I leave it running.
This only started happening this weekend, and it happens in both unity
2d and 3d.
  To reproduce:
  1. Open the Dash and navigate to the App Lens
  2. type "search" into the App Lens search box
  3. You will see that a application called "Search for Files..." appears.
  This application should be removed as it is confusing 3rd option for
  searching files that will not be supported in the future.  Users are
  given two means of searching files in Ubuntu, file search in Nautilus
  and in the Dash.
  Desired resolution:
  - Remove "Search for Files..." application from Ubuntu
  The Alt+Tab timeout is set to 150ms, which leads to a general impression of
  slowness/lagginess, as the switcher does not appear immediately.
  I'm assuming that this was done so that the user may switch between two
  applications quickly without bringing the launcher up by tapping Alt+Tab and
  releasing before the 150ms is up, so I'm attaching a patch that lowers this to
  50ms, which appears to be a good compromise for me, from my testing.
  Personally, I've found in my own daily use that when switching to the next
  application, I prefer to know what I'm switching to before letting go of Alt,
  which makes the current behaviour very annoying. So annoying that I've almost
  exclusively switched to task-switching with the ring switcher and scale
switcher.
  Here's an external link regarding the issue:
  http://askubuntu.com/questions/43875/how-do-i-adjust-the-alt-tab-speed
  Some quick googling for "alt tab delay" also reveals that many Windows users
are
  complaining about the Alt+Tab delay/slowness in Windows.
  - all windows minimised by the 'show desktop' command are magically restored
the moment the Firefox window opens
  Desired correct behaviour:
  - When Firefox is launched, only the Firefox window should open.  The
minimised windows should remain minimised.
  -
  To Reproduce (example 2):
  1. Open two windows from different applications (say Chromium and Software
Center)
  2. Press Alt-tab and select the 'show desktop' option.  This minimises all
open windows
  3. Press Alt-tab again and select one of the applications (say the Software
Center)
  What currently incorrectly happens:
  - all windows minimised by the 'show desktop' command are magically restored
the moment a single application is selected using Alt-tab
  Desired correct behaviour:
  - Only the selected application or window should be restored.  The other
minimised applications and windows should remain minimised.
  -
  Desired Resolution:
  - Selecting a window or application using either the Launcher, Spread
  (triggered from the Launcher) or Alt-Tab should not restore unrelated
  windows that have been minimised using the 'show desktop' function.
  - If 'show desktop' is used twice in a row and the user has not opened
  or restored any windows in the meantime, the second time it is
  triggered all the windows that were minimised the first time it was
  triggered should be restored.  But if any window has been opened or
  restored since the first time it was triggered, triggering it again
  should minimise all open windows.  The use case is:
  1. User has several windows open
  2. User triggers the 'show desktop' function using alt-tab
  3. All open windows are minimised
  4. User triggers the 'show desktop' function a second time using alt-tab
  5. All windows that were minimised the in step 3 above are restored.  Windows
that were already minimised before alt-tab was triggered in step 2 should
remain minimised.
Bug description:
  Description:  The right clicking on the Nautilus icon in the Launcher
  should open a quicklist that lists the bookmarks and locations
  displayed as Nautilus 'Places'.  These locations used to be displayed
  in the 'Places' menu bar menu, and are still displayed inside Nautilus
  in the left hand 'Places' sidebar.
  Desired resolution:
  The Nautilus Launcher quicklist should list all the bookmarks displayed
inside Nautilus in the 'Places' sidebar.  This list needs to be dynamic, so
that if user changes their bookmark, their new bookmarks are reflected in the
quicklist.  In addition, a 'Open a new window' option should be added to the
top of the quicklist.
  The quicklist should be formatted as follows:
  ---
  Open a new window
  -
  [nautilus bookmark]
  [nautilus bookmark]
  [nautilus bookmark]
  [nautilus bookmark]
  [nautilus bookmark]
  [nautilus bookmark]
  [nautilus bookmark]
  etc...  (all nautilus bookmarks should be displayed)
  -
  Files
  -
  Keep in launcher
  Quit
  A bunch of issues here:
  - When opening the "Filter results" for the first time after booting
  the computer, "All" should be selected by default in every filter
  category.  Currently it is not selected.
  - Deselecting all the filters in a filter category should
  automatically toggle the "All" button to the selected state.  E.g.
  select "Office" in the App Lense 'type' filter category, then deselect
  "Office".  When all the filters in the filter category are deselected
  the "All" button should automatically become selected.
  - "All" should never be selected if any other item in the filter
  category is selected.  For example, select "All" in the App Lens
  'type' filter category, then select "Games".  As soon as you select
  "Games", the "All" button should change to the de-selected state.
  - It should never be possible to deselect the "All" filter if no other
  filters in the filter category are selected.  For example, in the App
  Lens 'type' filter category select "All".  Clicking on "All" again
  should do nothing.
  Launcher - difficult to exit from 'alt+f1' Launcher navigation mode
Status in Ayatana Design:
Status in Unity:
Status in Unity Distro Priority:
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
Bug description:
  The Alt+F1 Launcher navigation mode has the following problems:
  1. Clicking outside of the Launcher when in this modes does not exit this
mode or perform any action.
  2. Clicking on a Launcher icon with the pointer after opening the Launcher
using Alt+F1 strands the user in a weird state from which it is very difficult
to exit.
  3. It is possible to select different windows using the Launcher with a
pointer in this mode, but then it is impossible to drag them.
  4. The Super keyboard shortcut to open the Dash (and other keyboard
shortcuts) to not work in this mode.
  5. If you press enter, to launch any element on the quicklist, the
application is launched but you don't exit navigation mode as well.
  --
  Desired Resolution:
  - When 'Alt+F1' navigation is open, clicking anywhere with the mouse
  should preform the normal action the user expects as well as closing
  this navigation mode.  For example, if a user drags a window, the
  window should move and the 'Alt+F1' navigation mode should be exited.
  As a second example, if a user has navigated to a quicklist using the
  'Alt+F1' navigation mode, clicking on one of the quicklist options
  using the pointer should action the item clicked on as well as closing
  the quicklist and exiting the 'Alt+F1' navigation mode.  If it is not
  possible to implement this fix, the 'Alt+F1' feature should be
  temporally disabled (to be re-enabled when a fix to this issue is
  available).
  - Pressing any keyboard shortcut should exit the 'Alt+F1' navigation
  mode and perform the keyboard shortcut action the user expects
Bug description:
  This visual design of the quicklist (see
https://chinstrap.canonical.com/~sabdfl/11_04/desktop_and_netbook/launcher/quicklist.png
  ) shows the quicklist as transparent, however in the implementation
  the quicklist transparency is rendered incorrectly.
  Additionally the alignment of the white select box and the quicklist
  border is wrong.  The gap between the white select box and the side of
  the quicklist should be consistent but in the implementation  the gap
  between the top item and the top of the quicklist or the bottom item
  and the bottom of the quicklist is sometimes inconsistent.
  Desired solution:
  - examine both quicklist.png and the source PSD files (available from Rosie)
and recreate the transparency shown in the design
  - tweak the spacing of elements to get consistent alignment.
Bug description:
  The Dash category headers are positioned incorrectly in the horizontal
  axis.  The far left of the category header icons should line up
  exactly with the far left of the spinner/magnifying glass in the
  search box.
  See the visual designs in
  https://chinstrap.canonical.com/~sabdfl/11_10/desktop_and_netbook/dash/
  - during handover with John we found that moving the icon in the
  searchbar (magnif. glass/spinner) 4px to the left is the best way to
  fix this
