[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1412057] Re: nvidia-prime 0.7 does not work as expected in 15.04

2015-04-28 Thread Pau Garcia i Quiles
Can someone please describe what is the problem with SDDM and selecting
nvidia? Does the nvidia driver look for something that SDDM does not
provide but LightDM does?

Title:
nvidia-prime 0.7 does not work as expected in 15.04

Status in nvidia-prime package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Last days nvidia-prime 0.7 has been released but this version, like
previous one, does not work in Vivid.

I'm not sure exactly how long this problem exists (i think something
like 2-3 or more weeks), but it is impossible to switch to nvidia
profile. Before nvidia-settings package offered controls to switch
profile Nvidia/Intel but now its gone.

  If we try:
  #prime-select nvidia

  we have:
Info: the current alternatives in use are: ['mesa', 'mesa']
Info: selecting nvidia-346 for the nvidia profile
  update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/nvidia-346/ld.so.conf to provide
/etc/ld.so.conf.d/x86_64-linux-gnu_GL.conf (x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf) in manual
mode
  update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/nvidia-346/alt_ld.so.conf to provide
/etc/ld.so.conf.d/i386-linux-gnu_GL.conf (i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf) in manual mode

so it seems like switching to nvidia profile, but after relogin or
reboot again mesa is marked as used.

  If we try:
  #prime-switch nvidia

  we have:
  /etc/modprobe.d is not a file
  /etc/modprobe.d is not a file
  /etc/modprobe.d is not a file
  /etc/modprobe.d is not a file
update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for x86_64-linux-gnu_gfxcore_conf
  update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/ld.so.conf to
provide /etc/ld.so.conf.d/x86_64-linux-gnu_GL.conf (x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf)
in manual mode
  update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/ld.so.conf to provide
/etc/ld.so.conf.d/i386-linux-gnu_GL.conf (i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf) in manual mode
update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for x86_64-linux-gnu_gfxcore_conf

I have tried various driver versions but none of them work now.

  I'm running:
  Kubuntu 15.04 (current/daily)
  Kernel: 3.18.0-9

If you need any extra info, please comment.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1426490] Re: cups 2.0.2-1 100% cpu usage

2015-03-03 Thread Pau
Brother DCP-7055w via Wireless connected, printed some simple PDFs when
the error occured.

I installed some updates (hplib i think) and that fixed the problem for me.
With the new update i wasn't able to reproduce the high load.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1117637] Re: Brightness and Lock option in System Settings crashes because of glib's schema missing key

2013-03-28 Thread Pau Iranzo
Hi,

Here are the instructions to solve this:

1. Add the notifications key to your schema:

sudo gedit
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.desktop.screensaver.gschema.xml

And add a new key:

key type=b name=show-notifications
  defaulttrue/default
  summarydummy summary/summary
  description/description
/key

2. Save the file and recompile the schemas:

sudo glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/

After that, everything should work.

Title:
Brightness and Lock option in System Settings crashes because of
  glib's schema missing key

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
When launching the gnome-control-center and selecting the Brightness
and Lock option the application crashes with the following error:

  (gnome-control-center:9686): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema
'org.gnome.desktop.screensaver' does not contain a key named
'show-notifications'
  Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)

Apparently the issue is simply resolved (or worked around) by editing
the glib schema file org.gnome.desktop.screensaver.gschema.xml, adding
the missing key that it is complaining about and recompiling the glib
  schemas.

2012-07-11 Thread Pau Oliva
Mathieu: ¿Can you revert the patch? it's breaking everyone else's wifi,
I will think of a different approach to try to workaround the specific
issue on BCM4353 with wl driver (maybe it's better to submit a patch to
the wl driver itself).

2012-05-21 Thread Pau Oliva
This is a better patch, which fixes the driver_wext in wpasupplicant
when using broadcom's wl driver and shouldn't have effect when using any
other underlying wifi driver, this is adapted from here to the current
version of wpasupplicant in ubuntu:

http://lists.shmoo.com/pipermail/hostap/2011-March/022891.html

With this patch, the time to wait after a suspend when using
networkmanager is around 12 seconds, i think it's an acceptable
alternative if the patch gets included in ubuntu's wpasupplicant
package.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 994739] Re: wireless takes several seconds longer to connect from standby

2012-05-21 Thread Pau Oliva
Thanks Andrea, I have gone through the wiki steps and pushed the branch
to Launchpad:

https://code.launchpad.net/~poliva/ubuntu/precise/wpasupplicant/fix-
for-994739

I have not contacted upstream directly, as the development of
wpasupplicant 0.7.3 is stopped (wpasupplicant stable is now 1.0) and a
very similar patch to this was not accepted upstream when Kalle Valo
(kvalo) submitted it in March 2011.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 994739] Re: wireless takes several seconds longer to connect from standby

2012-05-17 Thread Pau Oliva
Finally found the root reason of the problem! :-)

Both wl (broadcom proprietary driver) and brcmsmac (the open source
driver) are installed, in 11.10 this wasn't a problem since the
brcmsmac was not blacklisted, and even if the wl driver was loaded, it
failed silently and brcmsmac was used instead.

In 12.04, the wl driver has been updated to version 5.100.82.38+bdcom-
0ubuntu6.1 which includes the following fix:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/873117/comments/36

that basically blacklists the brcmsmac module, forcing the wl
proprietary driver to be in use.

When the wl driver is in use, resume takes 30 seconds to associate to
the network, but when the brcmsmac driver is in use, it just takes 5
seconds.

I just blacklisted the 'wl' module, and happily using the brcmsmac now
in 12.04, without any issues. Problem solved!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 994739] Re: wireless takes several seconds longer to connect from standby

2012-05-16 Thread Pau Oliva
I've been digging into this a bit more, it seems to me the problem is in
communication between network-manager and wpa_supplicant. I enabled
debugging in wpa-supplicant, see the attached log file.

** Attachment added: network-manager and wpa-supplicant debug log on 12.04

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 994739] Re: wireless takes several seconds longer to connect from standby

2012-05-15 Thread Pau Oliva
I have the same issue here, MacBookAir4,2 with a Broadcom BCM43224
802.11a/b/g/n using 'wl' driver.
It takes around 30 seconds to connect to the wireless network after suspend in
12.04, while in 11.10 it was barely 5 or 6 seconds.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 994739] Re: wireless takes several seconds longer to connect from standby

2012-05-15 Thread Pau Oliva
I've attached log of network-manager with debug enabled on both 11.10
and 12.04, notice the differences between both logs.

I don't know if it's related, but on ubuntu 12.04 the 'iw' command is
broken and complains about missing nl80211.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 994739] Re: wireless takes several seconds longer to connect from standby

2012-05-15 Thread Pau Oliva
The issue is not related to nl8021: modprobing 'mac80211' makes 'iw'
command work correctly, but the issue with network-manager taking too
long to re-connect still exists.

Any help fixing this would be appreciated.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 725746] Re: Missing language on LibreOffice -Catalan (Valencian)-

2012-01-10 Thread Pau Iranzo
Hi Christopher, we're already in contact with some people at
LibreOffice. The problem with the locale is that LibreOffice (so did
OpenOffice.org) doesn't support the BCP-47 standard. This means that
there is no way the can implement @ modifications (at this moment).

It seems that this is somewhat tricky and no one is going to take care
of it right now. I guess that once they implement it, Debian developers
will add it to the translation package.

I expected Ubuntu just to add this package even though the locale is
wrong. The thing is that Ubuntu already implements the ca@valencia
locale, but this doesn't include the LibreOffice ca-XV package (for
reasons above). This means that the Catalan (Valencian) ubuntu isos that
we're creating cannot install the ca-XV package directly, and we have to
delete LibreOffice and install it again from the version from
libreoffice.org (that means that then this package won't be upgraded).

But things have to be done in the right way. I completely understand
that.

Thanks for your help and time!!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 873787] Re: Banshee does not start

2011-11-16 Thread Pau Oliva
The crash is produced when the gconf key
/apps/banshee-1/interface/panes/albumartist/browser/top/position is set
to 0.

When this key is set to 0, banshee will not start anymore.

To reproduce the bug:

1. drag the window separator to the most upper side possible.
2. Banshee will start consuming a lot of CPU, and should be killed.
3. After dragging the window it will show the output pasted below.
4. When you try to start banshee again, it will not start.

Please see the attached screenshot showing how to reproduce it.

2011-10-24 Thread Pau Iranzo
Hi,

The last versions of LibreOffice in Catalan (Valencian) include the

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: libreoffice

I'm the main responsible for the Catalan (Valencian) translation of
the LibreOffice suite. This language is using at this moment the code
ca-xv, but it's missing on the Ubuntu Natty packages, even though it
can be downloaded from the official LibO website.

Could you please add this language to the Ubuntu Natty packages?

  Thanks
