Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

When the user is running a containerized application (like the snapped
Firefox or Chromium), and tries to save a document, the xdg-desktop-
portal-gnome backend does show remote drives (like SMB or SFTP ones),
and allows to choose them, but then the save operation fails.

The previous backend, xdg-desktop-portal-gtk, did work fine in these
cases, because it returned the local path that corresponded to the
local file exported by Gvfs using FUSE, so this behaviour is not only
a serious bug, but also a regression.

  [ Test plan]
  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Run Firefox or Chromium as a Snap package in Ubuntu 22.04
  2. Have a SMB file server available where the network shares can be mounted
just by clicking on the share in Nautilus file manager (smb:// protocol,
usually mounted dynamically via `/var/run/user/.../gvfs/...`)
  3. Have one such share mounted and writable
  4. Open any website containing images in Firefox / Chromium
  5. Right-click on an image and select "Save Image As..."
  6. In the file save dialog, navigate to the mounted share
  7. Assert content of network share is visible and browsable from within the
save dialog
  8. Select "Save" at any folder in the network share

  Actual behavior:

  * File is not saved to selected network share location
  * No download entry is created
  * No error is shown

  Expected behavior:

  * File is saved to selected network share location
  * No error is shown

[ Where problems could occur ]

  - If the remote drives aren't exported as local files by Gvfs using
FUSE, the patch won't work and the behaviour will be the same than
  now.

  - Any hidden bug in g_file_get_path() when managing remote drives
could be triggered by this patch.

  [ Additional information ]

  * When saving to a folder on the local machine instead, saving works
correctly as expected
  * In contrast to files, new folders that are created from within the save
dialog are saved correctly on the network share
  * Similar situation when trying to open a file with Ctrl + O on a network
share from Firefox / Chromium. After double-clicking e.g. an image file in the
file dialog, the file dialog closes but nothing happens otherwise. Opening an
image on a local folder works fine.

  Environment:
  OS: Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala)
  Package: firefox-3.5 (3.5.8+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.10.1)
  Problem:
I print from firefox and change print settings, like select destination
printer, margins, header, footer and so on. In about:config option
'print.save_print_settings' is set to true. Finally do print.
Immediately after previous print I do print again and I suspect to get same
settings (destination printer, margins, header, footer ...) that I set for last
print, but unfortunately I get default print settings (destination printer,
margins, header, footer ...).
All this is happen in same browser session.
Problem also reflect on our extension that we developed for Firefox
(jsPrintSetup https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8966).
The extension using nsIPrintSettings interface to manage print settings also
encounter problem with select destination printer.
Independently from selected nsIPrintSettings.printerName Firefox always print
to default for operating system printer.

Title:
Package Firefox with MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 in environment to enable pixel
scrolling with touchpad and touch gestures

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  Confirmed
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Ubuntu version: Kubuntu 17.04
  Firefox version: 53.0.3+build1-0ubuntu0.17.04.2

In Firefox, two-finger scroll gestures on a touchpad are interpreted
as scroll wheel rotations, and the content scrolls three lines at a
time. This is inappropriate behavior for touchpad scrolling; it should
  scroll pixel-by-pixel.

Firefox already has the ability to do this, you just need to turn it
on by running the program with MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 in the environment:
for example, by running `MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 firefox`, or adding it to
  /etc/environment or something like that.

Turning on this behavior yields a large usability improvement for
laptop users. Therefore, I am proposing that MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 be
permanently added to the packaging such that it's always present when
Firefox runs. This is what Fedora does, and it results in a much
improved experience for the laptop user.

about 5 tabs open, I just pressed ctrl-alt-backspace, logged back in when the X
server restarted, and FF crashed with a bug report when Gnome tried to restore
the session.

It's not terribly important, I don't think anyone does this very often, but
maybe it'll be helpful.

  applications in Firefox

Status in Mozilla Firefox:

Bug description:
  See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=727422

With Firefox, default applications are selected by Firefox using
/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache, however, this list is a system
generated list in random order and therefor does not reflect the
user's preferences of which application should be used to open a file.

When I click on a pdf (for example), I want to have the option to open
it in my default application, in my case in okular, and not in
something else. However, acroread is invariably presented is presented
as default choice because it happens to be the first entry in
  /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache for application/pdf.

This happens in spite of the fact that the desktop provides correct
  defaults.list and mimeapps.list files

The comments in the firefox bug seem to suggest that firefox
developers are convinced that firefox calls the correct gtk libraries
to determine the correct application. If this is the case, then it is
necessarily the ubuntu (or possibly kubuntu) infrastructure to be
  failing.

FYI: I upgraded to Hardy to be able to point people at bugs, if needed. So I
am aware of the pre-alpha status of Hardy.

When Firefox-3.0 is set as the default browser for Gnome (System,
Preferences, Preferred Applications) all applications use the correct
browser. However, I have my workspaces nicely arranged, and my browser
  is in workspace 2.

When clicking a link (to open it) in gnome-terminal or Evolution, the
Firefox-3.0 window moves to the workspace where I clicked the link.
But I don't want the window to move, I want to move to the workspace
  where I left the window.

  IMHO, this is a bug.

  Thanks!

I think Firefox would look better and more integrated with gnome if

  /usr/share/icons/gnome/16x16/actions/find.png

-the RSS icon in the URL bar could be replaced with the one in
Epiphany, which follows the Tango guidelines. It can be found in
  /usr/share/epiphany-browser/icons/hicolor/16x16/status

-the lockpad icon when you visit a secure webpage could be replaced

Locally saved webpages not displaying correctly

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  Confirmed
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  WORKAROUND:
  Firefox Scrapbook Addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/427

  Firefox Information:   Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US;
  rv:1.9.0.8) Gecko/2009032711 Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Firefox/3.0.8

Web pages that have been saved locally are not displaying correctly.
To see this problem run the following steps:

  1). Go to the jwebunit website ( http://jwebunit.sourceforge.net/ ).
Suggesting saving a page from this website as a test since this
provided a very good example of the problem.

2). Right click on the main web page and select "Save As..."

3). Save the web page somewhere on the local drive. On Ubuntu there
is an option in the save dialog specifying how to save the web page.
Make sure that "Web page, complete" is selected.

4). Navigate to the location where the web page was stored and attempt
to load the saved page back into firefox

At this point the web page that is loaded from the hard disk should
display very differently than the real web page. Styles and elements
of the original web page should be missing. I also tested this same
process on Windows XP SP2 (using firefox 3.0.8) and I see the exact
same behavior. This seems to eliminate the problem being caused by
local browser settings (since I see the same thing under Windows and
Linux on two separate machines with totally different preferences).
Furthermore I was able to run steps 1 - 4 using Opera 9.64 and this
produces a saved web page that displays identically to the web page
  navigated to on the internet.

...Additionally I just tried loading the webpage saved locally using
opera and this loads into firefox correctly. So the problem appears
to be with the actual web page save using firefox and not the fact
that the page is saved locally.

I tried selecting some text from a webpage that I wanted to print.
The text was several pages long. When I printed it, I noticed that
the last line of the text was cut horizontally, and the bottom part
was on the next page, thus making that line very difficult to read.

I checked with just printing to a file (both postscript and pdf), and
the same thing happens, and at the same proportions (the same amount
of the line is cut off, and pushed to the next page)

Obviously, I think the line of text shouldn't be cut at all. It
should be either squeezed into the current page (The "Ignore scaling
and shrink page to fit width" option is selected, so maybe that could
justify this?) or, just push the line to the next page.

Bug description:
Since a few day I've updated to Ubuntu Mate 22.04 with the firefox
snap. Since then I've been having this strange bug. I have a 4k screen
which I'm running at a 2180p resolution with scaling on HiDPI. This
runs just fine except for in firefox. In the new firefox snap I get a
really tiny mouse cursor. I also checked other snap, it is not the
  case there.

  2. Start firefox with the default home page, about:startpage
or pass this URL manually - run "firefox about:startpage".
file: URLs also seem to have the same effect. Remote URLs don't - perhaps a
timing issue?

  3. Orca does not read the window title. It does not read any content.
It does not respond to Orca keyboard shortcuts e.g. ins+tab won't tab
between form controls (it will just act as normal tab).

  4. As soon as you navigate firefox to a different page, it will become

start reading stuff out, ins+tab will tab between form controls only,

Title:
"Strict" tracking protection sometimes causes _all_ content to fail to
  display on browser launch

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  Confirmed
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
This morning I booted my machine and launched Firefox. I restored my
tabs from my previous session, and _none of them_ displayed any
content. The tabs included pins, regular sites, and extension dialogs
(specifically, a couple of instances of the LastPass 2FA prompt).
Further to that, Firefox menus also wouldn't display; either via
right-click on tabs, or via the "hamburger" menu in the top-right. (I
could still close tabs via Ctrl-W for non-pinned tabs, or via middle-
  click for pinned tabs.)

favicons were displayed correctly, and I confirmed that the pages were
actually being fetched from the remote sites because I typed the
address for a page I know redirects and the redirect happened
(specifically, "!g foo" in my address bar caused DuckDuckGo to
  redirect me to Google).

Restarting the browser did not fix this. Closing all of my tabs and
restarting the browser did not fix this. Closing all of my tabs and
restarting the browser, however, _did_ allow the Firefox menus to
render (provided I didn't try to open any web pages before using
them), which allowed me to switch "Enhanced Tracking Protection" from
Strict to Standard, fixing the problem.

(This is the second time I've experienced this exact behaviour, which
is how I knew to try modifying the tracking protection setting. The
last time was on an older version of Firefox in August:

Title:
marked url in firefox by using one click isn't copied to clipboard,
  only with a triple mouse-click

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  Confirmed
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Hi, if I click in an url in firefox, the whole url ist marked, i.e.
  highlighted.

If I now use a click on the mousewheel to paste the content of the clipboard
into another software, I discover that the url wasn't copied into the clipboard
- the previous content ist filled in.
  That's confusing to me.

I would expect: If I can mark an url in Firefox with a single mouse-click,
which looks like a marking with a triple click, then it should be copied also
in the clipboard.
That would be a consisting behavior.

Firefox Snap won't open links to WhatsApp API

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  New
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The .deb version of Firefox handles links to WhatsApp API
  (https://api.whatsapp.com/send/?phone=) without any problem: these
links open the WhatsApp web client.

Snap version of Firefox doesn't know how to handle these links. It
opens the pop up "Choose an application to open whatsapp lnks" that
only shows the option System Handler (which fails opening them if
  selected).

Choosing Firefox is not possible as /bin and similar folders are out
  of range for the snap.

Bug description:

  Specifically Pixi says:
Error: WebGL unsupported in this browser, use "pixi.js-legacy" for fallback

Downgrading to Firefox 82 works. Not sure if this is an Ubuntu build
issue or Firefox, so I also filed upstream as well:
  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1678652

I need this functionality for work, and pinning to version 82 will be

Bug description:
STR: Start Firefox (56 or 57), go to Facebook. Start Farmville 2.
Farmville 2 hangs while loading. Never plays.

The Adobe Flash Player is properly installed. Has also been re-
  installed. Ditto for FireFox.

Does not matter if using Ubuntu 16.04 or 17.10.

Farmville 2 via Facebook in Firefox hangs. Also will not work if run

Title:
Hardware-accelerated video decoding (VA-API) broken in Firefox 79
  (Wayland)

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  Fix Released
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
After updating Firefox from 78 to 79, hardware-accelerated video
decoding no longer works properly in Wayland: streaming video gets cut
off with an error message from the service.

  == Steps to reproduce ==
  1. Follow the steps in [1] to enable VA-API.
  2. Open a Youtube/Twitch video (for instance https://www.twitch.tv/rifftrax),
press play

  == What I expect to happen ==
For the video be played without issues (as it did with Firefox 78).

  == What happens ==
After playing for a while (anything from just a few seconds to a couple of
minutes), the video stops and is replaced by a service-specific error message,
such as error #3000 (in case of Twitch). Even when playing, the video also
flickers green. After reloading the tab, the video again plays for a few
seconds before the error message reappears.

  == Other info ==
A fix is apparently already in the works upstream [2].

Title:
Firefox freezes temporarily at 100% CPU when Chromium is opened

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  New
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When Firefox is open, and I open Chromium, many features of Firefox
fail to work for several seconds. (To reproduce, start with neither
Firefox nor Chromium open; open Firefox, and allow one or more web
pages to load; then open Chromium; the issue starts a second or two
after Chromium is opened.) This is a temporary issue, lasting for
several seconds; the length of time it lasts appears to depend on how
many open tabs have been viewed since Firefox opened (on my computer,
around 10 seconds with 1 tab having been viewed, around a minute with
10 tabs having been viewed). This reproduces even when running Firefox
  as `firefox -safe-mode`.

While the issue is ongoing (i.e. starting around a second after Chromium is
open, and persisting for typically tens of seconds), some features of Firefox
work, but most do not:
  - Scrolling the current tab short distances succeeds, showing the expected
text on the page.
  - Scrolling the current tab long distances (several screeenfuls) causes the
page to be "cut off" past a certain point, with only a blank background
rendering.
  - Moving the mouse cursor over a link does not change the mouse cursor
(expected behaviour, and behaviour while the issue is not ongoing, is for it to
change to a hand shape).
  - Changing tab causes the resulting page not to display: rather, a grey
background is displayed, and sometimes a loading spinner.
  - Changing tab back then causes the original page not to render, as if it
were new, despite the fact it was correctly displayed earlier.
  - The address bar functions as normal; the issue does not appear to affect
address bar functionality.
Additionally, while the issue is ongoing, Firefox uses 100% CPU.

At some point after the issue in question starts, it stops, and all
Firefox features return to normal (including any missing or
incorrectly rendered page content, which renders again when the issue
  ends).

The trigger is specifically the act of opening Chromium: Firefox can
function just fine once the issue ends, even if Chromium is still
open, and functions just fine if Chromium is opened first.

I have an (unconfirmed) theory that opening Chromium is causing some
operation within Firefox to become very slow, using up all the CPU
time, and the other observed misbehaviours within Firefox are a
consequence of how slowly it is running; however, I've listed them all
anyway in case it provides clarity into what the specific nature of
  the bug is.

Title:
firefox crashes on a FIPS enabled machine

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  New
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  [IMPACT]
firefox is not a FIPS certified library. firefox uses bundled nss and on a
machine running FIPS enabled kernel, nss by default goes into FIPS mode if
/proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled=1. This is an untested configuration and since
firefox with bundled nss is not a certified library we propose disabling
reading the 'fips_enabled' flag and therefore switching the library
automatically into FIPS mode. A FIPS customer reported firefox crash on a FIPS
enabled system and strace showed it was repeatedly trying to read the
fips_enabled flag from the bundled nss before crashing.

The proposed patch disables reading the /proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled
flag. The users of the library however can force nss into FIPS mode
via an environment variable. We plan to leave it as is so as not to
regress existing users who may be using it.

The issue impacts firefox versions in eoan, disco, bionic and xenial.

  lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu Eoan Ermine (development branch)
  Release: 19.10

  Version: 2:3.45-1ubuntu1

  lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu Disco Dingo
  Release: 19.04

  Version: 2:3.42-1ubuntu2

  lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu Bionic Beaver
  Release: 18.04

  Version: 2:3.35-2ubuntu2.3

  lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
  Release: 16.04

  Version: 2:3.28.4-0ubuntu0.16.04

  [FIX]
This fix proposes to disable bundled nss in firefox reading
proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled. We only want fips certified modules reading this
file and running in fips mode. firefox is not one of our fips certified
modules, so should not be reading this along with our fips certified modules to
determine whether to run in fips mode.

Users who do want to run the library in FIPS mode can do so by using
the environment variable "NSS_FIPS". We propose to leave it as is so
as not to regress anyone using this. The user who is using this option
should be doing so with the awareness.

  [TEST]
Tested on a xenial and bionic desktop ISO running FIPS enabled kernel and in
FIPS mode. With the patch fix no crashes were observed when launching firefox
browser.
Without the patch fix, firefox crashes.

Tested on a xenial and bionic desktop ISO running non-FIPS generic
kernel. With the patch fix, firefox worked as expected and no changes
  were observed.

  [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
The regression potential for this is small. A FIPS kernel is required to
create /proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled and it is not available in the standard
Ubuntu archive. For users forcing FIPS through environment variable, nothing
has changed.
