[Desktop-packages] [Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare
Wow, I did not expect this bug from 2008 to resurface in 2021! To quote myself in 2008: > As I'm using the free version of vmware, I can live with it until: > 1. They fix it > 2. VirtualBox becomes stable enough to use #2 happened many *many* years ago, so I can no longer test this issue, that was never really resolved beyond the sort-of-workaround with setxkbmap in over 12 years... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195982 Title: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare Status in Linux: Invalid Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Status in xkeyboard-config package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in Gentoo Linux: New Bug description: [Problem] VMWare's keyboard mapping is imperfect, sometimes resulting in certain keys stopping functionality when running under VMWare, requiring the user to setup their configuration settings manually in VMWare. For a detailed explanation see the following article: http://www.vmware.com/support/ws55/doc/ws_devices_keymap_linux_longer.html [Original Report] After a day or so of running the shift key mysteriously stops working as does the cap lock. In other words I cannot enter shifted characters of any kind. The keyboard is connected to a KVM and all other systems respond to it properly. In additional any VMWare sessions I have open respond correctly. So I have the condition where all non-vmware applications in Ubuntu Hardy (all updates applied as of 2008-02-26 at 12:43 UTC) fail to recognize the shift key BUT applications within an active (a paused/restarted session also works) VMWare sessions running DO recognize the key. When this condition occurs ALL applications (except those within a VMWare session) are also unstable and will usually crash within a few keystrokes. If I continue to operate in this mode. I cannot pinpoint what, if any, application triggers this. It has always happened while working within terminal/browser/vmware sessions and NOT when opening a new application. It could be related to the KVM switch, but none of my other systems (2 Mandriva, 1 Windows) are affected by this. This bug has been present on my system for a number of days across daily updates and reboots (if the update requested it) and I think since I installed Hardy Alpha 1. A work around: log off and back on. A reboot/restart does not appear to be needed. Error logs show some unusual activity. --- MARK ... ... kernel ... rtc lost 7 interrupts ... --- MARK --- Plus some segfaults indicating which application crashed as I tried to type into it (mouse works fine). System: HP dv9743cl (which otherwise works lovely) Ubuntu: Hardy 8.04 (from lsb-release) TEST CASE: 1. Click inside the VM and 2. Hold any of the Ctrl, Alt and/or shift keys while releasing the keyboard/mouse to the host OS (which you obviously do when you press Crtl-Alt to revert back to windowed mode, as the cursor is then released from the VM). WORKAROUND: After this happens to recover your keyboard execute 'setxkbmap' in a terminal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/195982/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1851250] Re: [snap] chromium-browser snap cannot upload files outside ~
This affects me too after upgrading from 18.04 LTS to 20.04 and I fint it COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. The use of symlinks from /home to data on larger drives (which are shared between windows and linux systems, and not unix FS) is industry standard since over 30 years and this regression is atrocious. I will remove the snap and install the .DEB until it is resolved. My root disk is too small for the files i need to upload so a symlink to the storage drive which is permanently mounted in fstab under /datasjoe is necessary. The implication you have also broken access to removable media by default is likewise idiocy, any user is right in assuming he/she can acess theyir usb drves anywhere in their desktop system. Think again. please? I dont want to have to give up ubuntu after 11 years of daily driving it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1851250 Title: [snap] chromium-browser snap cannot upload files outside ~ Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: After upgrading from 19.04 to 19.10, my Chromium package was converted to a snap. After figuring out how to manually reconnect the password manager, and figuring out how to apply CHROMIUM_FLAGS that used to live in /etc/chromium-browser/default, and noticing that GMail is no longer able to play a sound when a call comes in, now I see that I am unable to upload files from anywhere except my home directory! Connecting chromium:removable-media as in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium- browser/+bug/1832711 does not help with anything else. Is there some way to let the file upload dialog work on any file my user account has access to? Or run this snap in --classic mode? If not, this seems like a critical limitation, as I need this multiple times a day. Switching to Chrome or Firefox cannot be the only workaround for this, surely? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1586528] Re: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record
I think I found the culprit: https://bugs.isc.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=45540 It boils down to a bug in the isc-dhcp-client. It doesn't correctly react to time synchronization events and therefore simply breaks in situations where time jumps "backwards" and the lease time in the network is relatively short. In my case I "fixed" the bug by removing the package isc-dhcp-client. The NetworkManager now uses its internal dhcp client which doesn't support as much features but at least works in my situations without breaking the network connection. ** Bug watch added: bugs.isc.org/Public/ #45540 https://bugs.isc.org/Public/Ticket/Display.html?id=45540 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1586528 Title: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record Status in avahi package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: For some reason, if I leave my Ubuntu VM up for a prolonged period of time the machine will lose connection to the network. ip addr shows that the nic port no longer has an address and an examination of the syslog shows this: May 27 14:19:38 matt-VirtualBox avahi-daemon[590]: Withdrawing address record for 10.0.2.15 on enp0s3. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption
OK, soon gsoc will start again. Maybe it can used to find someone who will implement OTR in telepathy. Does anybody has good connection to telepathy/gnome/fdo developers to ask if they would provide a mentor for such a project? What really annoys me about the otr integration in telepathy is the lack of information you get. People (e.g. jprvita, McVittie) come and go. Someone never hear something again about the project and the status. There are some questions in my head. Something like, is the approach of jpvita usefull for furher devlopment. If it's useful, what needs to be done to finish it? I think it would be useful to have a wiki page with such kind of informations. I can't believe that nobody is willing to code on this, so the question seems to be what keeps developers away from coding on this or vice versa what incentives must be given that someone is willing to work on otr implementation. P.S. Don't get me wrong I don't want to blame anybody with this post. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 788626] Re: Error: Unable to save resume file: File name too long
I have a temporary workaround until this issue is fixed. It seems indeed that it occurs on encrypted home directories, so the solution is to move the files away from that. Note that the files you move away from your encrypted home directory are (obviously) no longer encrypted... Anyway, this worked for me (execute in terminal): # 1. exit Transmission (properly exit) killall transmission ps aux | grep transmission | grep -v grep # should yield nothing # 2. move the resume directory (where transmission keeps the resume files) to a non-encrypted directory: mv ~/.config/transmission/resume /tmp/transmission-resume # 3. make a symbolic link from the original location to the new one: ln -s /tmp/transmission-resume ~/.config/transmission/resume Obviously, it's also a good idea to *save* these files with long file names in a non-encrypted directory. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to transmission in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/788626 Title: Error: Unable to save resume file: File name too long Status in Transmission: New Status in “transmission” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: transmission I'm trying to download a torrent (from http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/48348) but I get the message: Error: Unable to save resume file: File name too long and I don't see that there is much I can do about that. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 953586] Re: Rhythmbox does not properly retrieve tags for multiple CD albums.
I also experience the problem described by ricotz0; it appears, however, that, when the second disc has more tracks than does the first, the correct track list is not produced. Instead, the list is the same as the first disc's but extends to the beginning of the second disc when it runs out of the first disc's tracks. Since my first disc had 8 tracks and the second 9, the last track on the second disc was shown to be what should have been the first track on that disc. I'm trying to create images for the two discs in Dan Fogelberg's The Innocent Age. The last track of the second disc should be Ghosts but is listed as Stolen Moments. Also, the play times appear to be copied from MusicBrainz instead of being generated by rhythmbox (a surprise to me). The barcode for The Innocent Age is 07464373932. Rhythmbox is 2.96. PICARD's list contains the tracks on both disks. Track numbers are distinguished by either a 1-track# or 2-track#. I tried specifying 2 in the disc: box (rhythmbox's menu) before pressing reload, but the same list was returned. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/953586 Title: Rhythmbox does not properly retrieve tags for multiple CD albums. Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu 11.10 - Rhythmbox 2.96-0ubuntu1~11.10~ricotz0 Whenever I insert the first disc of a multiple-CD album, Rhythmbox properly finds the tags for it (eg. Nine Inch Nails' will show Ghosts I-IV - 1 Ghosts I - 18 Ghosts II). I expect that the second CD would show its own tracklist (19 Ghosts III - 36 Ghosts IV). However, when I insert the second CD to rip it, the track listing is exactly the same as the first which means I have to tag it entirely myself. This behaviour should be fixed. Steps to replicate: 1. Insert first CD of a two CD album. 2. Open Rhythmbox and check the track listing. 3. Replace first CD with second CD. 4. Again open Rhythmbox and check the track listing. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 856210] Re: Horizontal Scrollbar in kde dont work (default theme)
Shouldn't this bug get a higher importance? At least for me this issue is an absolute blocker that prevents any upgrades of our systems to Kubuntu 11.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/856210 Title: Horizontal Scrollbar in kde dont work (default theme) Status in oxygen transparent: Unknown Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When using libreoffice in kunbuntu 11.10 beta, the horizontal scrollbar seems too large and cannot be moved (see screenshot in attachement). I've seen this bug in calc and impress. Thanks for your help !
