[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1216218] Re: xorg xkb options don't trigger when MatchProduct is used
Sorry, I never got around to testing this again, but I have since moved to Arch, and it's not a problem in this distro. (I'm no longer using Ubuntu, so this bug should remain closed.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1216218 Title: xorg xkb options don't trigger when MatchProduct is used Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I have a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ that attempts to set the xkb options for a specific keyboard model. Hence, it contains the following line: MatchProduct TrulyErgonomic.com Truly Ergonomic Computer Keyboard I know that this match triggers fine, because it activates at-home-modifier [1] as expected, only for this keyboard. I can confirm this by commenting out the following at-home-modifier line, which results in a lack of activation. Option TransMod 36:64 However, it seems that the xkb options are not triggering. For example this line: Option XKbOptions lv3:ralt_switch_multikey,numpad:pc,ctrl:swapcaps Similarly to above, I've tried removing ,ctrl:swapcaps and restarting, but this makes no difference. From `setxkbmap -query`, no options are set. Oddly enough, if I comment out the MatchProduct line, then this line functions as expected, as confirmed by restarting with either ,ctrl:swapcaps present or absent. (Obviously this then acts on all keyboards.) I've also tried this with similar results for: Option XkbLayout ara Option XkbVariant Finally, I've also tried manually changing the settings of they integrated keyboard. First I find the id with `xinput list`, then run setxkbmap -device 15 -layout us -variant altgr-intl -option lv3:ralt_switch_multikey,numpad:pc,ctrl:swapcaps This works as expected. Further, I can see that the settings are being overwritten by /etc/default/keyboard . I can change this file manually, and see that xkb changes on restart. Is there a workaround that will allow me to configure keyboards separately? I tried removing this file or commenting it all out, but upon restart, xkb still ignored xorg.conf, using some kind of hard-coded default values. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1249940] Re: Thunderbird picks incorrect mime type for inline picture when drag-and-dropping

Content-Type: image/png; name=foo.png Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-ID: part1.random_numb...@foobar.com Content-Disposition: inline; filename=foo.png However, when I attach them inline by *dragging* from the file browser into the body, they are attached with the incorrect mime type as Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-ID: part1.00030206.09040...@foobar.com The latter displays fine for the recipient if they are using Thunderbird, or via the gmail web interface. However, OSX Mail.app users only see a text file Mail Attachment.txt full of nonsense. Kmail also fails to display the image correctly. It seems that Thunderbird is using the wrong mime type when png images are attached inline. (I also see a similar problem with .jpg files.) I see the same problem whether dragging from Dolphin file browser, Konqueror, Krusader, Firefox (via the browser window itself), and Kate's file picker. With Firefox, I entered the file path into the url bar, and dragged from the main browser window. I also attempted to install Nautilus, but I can't even drag from it (with KDE). I've also tried dragging from Firefox's browser window in Xubuntu, which had the same problem. I tried safe mode, and this didn't fix it. However, there's another gsetting called org.gnome .settings-daemon.plugins.power idle-dim-time which controls the screen dim time. The default value of idle-dim-time in Ubuntu is 30 secs and this makes the screen dim after idle for 30 secs. This part (idle-dim-time) is not accessible to users in the default UI but can only be accessed by using the CLI. This two categories of values (dim time/suspendblank time) should not be related at all, however, the current Ubuntu Precise (12.04)'s gnome settings daemon (3.4.2) it actually suspend or blank the screen on user set time plus the dim time, which added additional 30 secs by default. Since dim time is not accessible by users in default UI, this confusing users why extra 30 secs is added to the total time on top of the selected suspend/blank time. In some OEM projects, in order to fulfill the OEM requests for Energy Star standard, the dim time is set to 5 minutes default (instead of 30 secs), and this make the suspend time and screen blank time very inaccurate, because user will have additional 5 minutes to wait before the screen blank or system suspend. (Inactive time to suspend is about 5 minutes more than setting.) * User do not need modify anything for this patch. [Test Case] * Please use Ubuntu Precise (12.04) to test, this issue is already fixed in Ubuntu Raring (13.04) * Set idle-dim-time to 300 first (5 minutes), it's much easier to find out this issue. (the default is 30 secs and it's somehow not as easy to observe, but the result should be same.) Command: #gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power idle-dim-time 300 *In settings: Turn screen off: 10 minutes Suspend: 10 minutes on battery power, 30 minutes when plugged in. Actual: On battery: Screen turned off after 10 minutes, suspend after about 5 more minutes(15 minutes total). When plugged in: Screen turned off after 10 minutes, suspend after about 25 more minutes(35 minutes total). Steps: 1. Check power settings and brightness settings 2. Leave the system inactive Expected results: Inactive time to suspend is same as setting Actual results: Inactive time to suspend is about 5 minutes more than setting [Regression Potential] * This do not need to modify any user settings. * The impact should be minimal for an inaccurate timing of suspend/blanking. [Other Info] Original bug description: When I set the various timeouts via dconf-editor, my computer does not follow them precisely. I'm referring to these settings: org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-display-ac org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-display-battery org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-ac-timeout org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-battery-timeout For example if I set all to 5, then the display sleeps at 30 seconds, and the computer at 70 seconds. Similarly, if I set them all to 60, the computer suspends around 90 seconds. I've only tried these shorter settings. These are clearly values that are low for normal usage, but this bug is very frustrating if one attempts to troubleshoot unrelated automatic-sleep bugs. Firstly, I think I missed the case when automatic sleep might have worked. Secondly, it increases the time it takes to troubleshoot by a lot. I can alt-tab or click between windows, but cannot seem to type into one (or more) windows. Otherwise, clicking does all you expect it to. You can select menus of the window; you can even select text (although it's the background window grey instead of the foreground window blue). I tried to make sure that it was not an issue with X/KDE by testing to see what the reported active window was. First I found window IDs with xwininfo | grep -i 'window id' Then, when the bug occurred, I attempted to see if keystrokes were being passed to the active (but non-responsive) window with xev -id 0x123456 | grep Key I also did the same for the background window that was actually responding to the keystrokes. It seems that the active (but non- responsive) window was indeed receiving keystrokes, and the other one was not, although it was responding to them.. I presume that it's Firefox hijacking the active window internally. I don't see this in any other application, except much more frequently in Thunderbird. I've filed a bug for Thunderbird too. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1234468 Here is a troubleshooting thread for this issue. http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=111t=110202 Here is the related thread for Thunderbird. https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=111t=117704 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 Package: firefox 24.0+build1-0ubuntu0.13.04.1 [modified: usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop] Uname: Linux 3.9.4-030904-generic x86_64 AddonCompatCheckDisabled: False ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8.3 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: lee2493 F pulseaudio BuildID: 20130911155223 Channel: Unavailable Date: Thu Oct 3 11:14:42 2013 ForcedLayersAccel: False IfupdownConfig: # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) auto lo iface lo inet loopback InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-12-16 (290 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Release amd64 (20121017.1) IpRoute: default via 192.168.2.1 dev wlan0 proto static 169.254.0.0/16 dev wlan0 scope link metric 1000 192.168.2.0/24 dev wlan0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.2.2 metric 9 MarkForUpload: True MostRecentCrashID: bp-5270b043-7b09-48ed-b448-be4e92130427 PrefSources: prefs.js [Profile]/extensions/launchClipboard@alice/defaults/preferences/launchclipboard.js [Profile]/extensions/formhist...@yahoo.com/defaults/preferences/FhcPreferences.js [Profile]/extensions/donottrackp...@abine.com/defaults/preferences/prefs.js [Profile]/extensions/https-everywh...@eff.org/defaults/preferences/preferences.js Profiles: Profile0 (Default) - LastVersion=24.0/20130911155223 (In use) RelatedPackageVersions: google-talkplugin 4.7.0.0-1 adobe-flashplugin 11.2.202.310-0raring1 kopete4:4.10.5+dfsg1-0ubuntu0.1 rhythmbox-mozilla 2.98-0ubuntu5 RunningIncompatibleAddons: False SourcePackage: firefox UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to raring on 2013-04-26 (159 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 09/07/2012 dmi.bios.vendor: Dell Inc. dmi.bios.version: A19 dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: 0XN71K dmi.board.vendor: Dell Inc. dmi.board.version: FAB1 dmi.chassis.type: 8 dmi.chassis.vendor: Dell Inc. dmi.chassis.version: 0.1 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnDellInc.:bvrA19:bd09/07/2012:svnDellInc.:pnDellSystemXPSL702X:pvr:rvnDellInc.:rn0XN71K:rvrFAB1:cvnDellInc.:ct8:cvr0.1: dmi.product.name: Dell System XPS L702X dmi.sys.vendor: Dell Inc. I can re-add the printer, and it is automatically discovered correctly. However, when I attempted to print to this new printer or the old printer, the job never completed, with The printer is not responding. Printing to other network printers worked fine (also via Avahi names). Alternatively, I can add the printer using the IP address, i.e. as socket://ip address of Airport Extreme:9100, and this works fine. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1249940] [NEW] Thunderbird picks incorrect mime type for inline picture when drag-and-dropping
Public bug reported: When I attach png images by dragging from the file browser to the header region of the compose window, they are attached with correct mimetype. Content-Type: image/png; name=foo.png Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=foo.png Similarly, *inline* png images attach fine when using Thunderbird's native file picker. Finally, installing Thunderbird directly from the website *does* fix the problem so it's a problem introduced in the Ubuntu package. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1235539] [NEW] Inline spell-check stops working until Thunderbird is restarted
Public bug reported: I have Spell Check As You Type enabled. Often, after an hour or so of Thunderbird being open, the inline spell-check stops working. If I restart Thunderbird, the spell-check works again. I'm not sure if it's important, but I'm using English (United Kingdom) for the dictionary. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1235539] Re: Inline spell-check stops working until Thunderbird is restarted
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1229172 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1229172 This also occurs with safe mode enabled. As per this report [1], it seems (from one test) that spell check fails after sending composing the first email. In addition, it seem like it has already been filed upstream [2]. The workaround is to set mail.compose.max_recycled_windows setting to 0 (in config editor). Instead they are being sent to the background, inactive window. The front-most window is shown as selected in the pager, while a non-selected window receives the keystrokes. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1234468] [NEW] Active window cannot receive keystrokes
Public bug reported: Recently, possibly in the upgrade to Thunderbird 24.0, I've found that the front-most, active window often will not receive keystrokes. Instead they are being sent to the background, inactive window. For example, I attempt to reply to an email, and start typing. I see text in the body as expected, then a second after beginning, the text is sent to the main mail index window. The front-most window is shown as selected in the pager, while a non-selected window receives the keystrokes. This means that for long periods, I am unable to send and compose emails. In addition, I'm also often mid-sentence when I realise that the characters aren't appearing, and I've done some weird filing/labelling in the mail index window. I can alt-tab or click between windows, but cannot seem to type into the compose window. Otherwise, clicking does all you expect it to. You can select menus of the window; you can even select text (although it's the background window grey instead of the foreground window blue). I tried to make sure that it was not an issue with X/KDE by testing to see what the reported active window was. $ xwininfo | grep -i 'window id' xwininfo: Window id: 0x3c001f6 Inbox - Uni - Mozilla Thunderbird $ xwininfo | grep -i 'window id' xwininfo: Window id: 0x3c0670c Write: Re: Foo Bar - Unicode (UTF-8) $ sleep 1 xprop -root | grep -E '^_NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW' _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW(WINDOW): window id # 0x3c001f6 $ sleep 1 xprop -root | grep -E '^_NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW' _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW(WINDOW): window id # 0x3c0670c It seems that even when the active window is reported to be the compose window by X, it will still not receive input. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1234470] [NEW] Active window cannot receive keystrokes
Public bug reported: Starting in a release from February, I've found that the front-most, active window often will occasionally not receive keystrokes. Instead they are being sent to the background, inactive window. The front-most window is shown as selected in the pager, while a non-selected window receives the keystrokes. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug raring -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1234470 Title: Active window cannot receive keystrokes Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Starting in a release from February, I've found that the front-most, active window often will occasionally not receive keystrokes. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1234468] Re: Keystrokes are hijacked by inactive window
** Summary changed: - Active window cannot receive keystrokes + Keystrokes are hijacked by inactive window -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1234468 Title: Keystrokes are hijacked by inactive window Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Recently, possibly in the upgrade to Thunderbird 24.0, I've found that the front-most, active window often will not receive keystrokes. I presume that it's Thunderbird hijacking the active window internally. I don't see this in any other application, except for Firefox occasionally. I upgrade packages almost every day, but (from /var/log/apt/history.log) it seems like the previous version was 17.0.8+build1-0ubuntu0.13.04.1. (v17 to v24. Is that correct?) Upon restarting, the zebra striping in the list of emails is no longer present. I'm using the default theme (Default 24.0, last updated 19 Sep 2013). I've also tried restarting in safe mode, but the zebra striping is still absent. The background no longer alternates, instead displaying the same white colour for all messages. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1216218] [NEW] xorg xkb options don't trigger when MatchProduct is used
Public bug reported: I have a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ that attempts to set the xkb options for a specific keyboard model. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1034594] Re: zenity --question --timeout returns 5 when click yes
I also see this bug (5 when clicking Yes), and my buttons are also labelled Yes and No. However, in my case, they are in that order. Sometimes upon resume, all I see is a black screen and the cursor. the mouse and keyboard respond (the mouse moves) but nothing changes. Switching to console and back doesn't fix it. Killing Compiz also does not fix the issue. Further, if one has password lock disabled on resume the user will be stuck with a frozen display of whatever was last shown on the screen before suspend. The mouse cursor still changes as you hover over various elements but the display is frozen solid. One can switch to another TTY via ctrl+alt+F1 but killing the X session is the only way to get back to the desktop. Attempts to replace compiz have been fruitless. Trying the 3.4 kernel also did not fix the issue. BTW, I haven nothing connected to the laptop when I resume and before suspend. This is a very annoying issue because the only way to recover is to reboot, which means all the open files will be lost. [UPDATE] It was discovered that switching to a tty, killing compiz, then invoking 'metacity --replace' would successfully switch over to metacity. Attempting to invoke 'compiz --replace' afterwards would put the state right back where it was (frozen screen, etc.) and output error messages saying something similar to invalid configuration, this should never happen, you should probably raise a bug report about it. After killing Compiz again and invoking compiz --replace yet again I can get basic window management back (though unity --replace still does not work as it whines about unclean exit states). So one still needs to start over again to get it all functioning properly.
