[Desktop-packages] [Bug 537970]

Preview of Abschlussarbeit.pdf as intended to print

OK, just so people don't vote the document is broken I attached
Abschlussarbeit.png, which shows how the document is supposed to print.
What does in fact not print, though, is the PNG logo in the lower right
corner. The text is kept to a minimum to make debugging easier.

And, seriously, if you take a look at the experiments I performed to
narrow down the problem (comment #2 above), how can you think I post a
bug for an obviously broken document? We've been having that problem for
months at work with just about every document we try to print -
generated by LaTeX, OOo, LibreOffice, you name it. There is always some
image that does not print. And I tried to view and print the document
with Adobe Reader, too, and if I write Adobe Reader prints correctly,
you can take my word for it.

If anybody can get me started on building the project, I'm glad to help.

It shows up correctly in preview, acroread prints it properly.

  To reproduce:

  1) Download this here invoice:

  2) Preview in Evince - company logo is here.
  3) Print - company logo is not on paper.

Frustrating, used to work, just stopped at some point, too far back in

2012-05-30 Thread Mr. Christian W. Strubel
Public bug reported:

Evolution crashes when I try to copy all entries from one address book
to another one. Also, somehow a 2nd Personal Address Book got created
and I can't delete it.

This problem seemed to start within the last 2 days. I don't know what is
causing it.
I also tried to use Synaptic to re-install Evolution and the modules involving
database support.
I have backed up my Personal Address Book in vCard format.
In the past I have also had Evolution crash when I tried to add a new contact
to my
Personal address book. I have had to shut the computer down a few tomes lately
without going through the proper shut down sequence. Could this have messed up
the address book database?
I need help.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 517033] Re: gvfsd-sftp: unable to append to file when using low-level writing (echo)

2012-05-30 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner
This bug causes permanent data loss with no warning.
How is it possibly Importance: Low?
If we can't SFTP with gvfs, it should be disabled. A feature that eats your
data is worse than no feature at all.

  Configuration:
  Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic

  Steps to reproduce behaviour:
  1. Mount a GVFS-SFTP share (via sftp://someserver)
  2. Open terminal and cd to this share
  3. Run commands:
  user@host:~/.gvfs/sftp on someserver$ echo 100 ./test

  4. Expected result:
  200 appended to file contents
  5. Real result - an error:
bash: echo: write error: Operation not supported

  Additional information:
When using a text editor writing with fopen (e.g. Geany:

using gedit (which seems to write via
  g_file_set_contents), all is OK.

gvfsd-smb (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/517028).

2012-05-30 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner
That should read If we can't fix SFTP with gvfs ...

Also:
When editing files with vim over gvfs/sftp, the whole file is lost upon saving.
When editing files with LibreOffice Calc over gvfs/sftp, the existing files
gets corrupted such that LibreOffice can no longer open it.

This is with Ubuntu 12.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 871931] Re: ALT + circumflex can be set in the keybinding settings and conflict with unity

2012-05-16 Thread Sean W
The workaround *kinda* works. Here's how it did for me:
1. start ccsm
2. activate Ubuntu Unity Plugin - Switcher - Key to flip through the windows
in the switcher. You will find this option is deactivated. Binding it will not
unbind alt+circumflex right away
3. activate Application Switcher Plugin. Click through errors for doubly used
bindings
4. play around with both plugins to no avail, notice how alt+circumflex can't
be unbound
5. restart system and magically find key unbound

Alt+Circumflex is used in Japanese IME for Windows to switch input mode.
Had IBUS in 10.04 configured to use the same keys for activating Anthy.
Having to relearn the keys has significant impact on productivity.

So please make the Unity keybinding configurable.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 998931] [NEW] menus appear on wrong monitor

2012-05-13 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner
Public bug reported:

Background:

I have 3 monitors (in a left/middle/right configuration) and an NVIDIA
Quadro NVS 450. This means I have to use Xinerama, which means Unity
falls back to Unity 2D. Most programs work fine.

Problem:

LibreOffice apps (like Calc and Writer) appear to have several bugs in
their menu implementation:

1. The menus are per-window, instead of being at the top of the screen
in the panel like other apps. This is fine with me, and *not* the topic
of this bug report. Presumably if global menus become a configurable
option, the mode in which libreoffice menus are currently operating will
be expected to work correctly. I mention it only for completeness.

2. When a window is on the middle or right monitor, the menus open in
the wrong position. For windows on the middle monitor, the menus open on
the right monitor. For menus on the right monitor, the menus open on the
correct monitor but align to the right of the menu item text. See the
attached screenshots for clarification.

LibreOffice apps are the only ones I've seen that exhibit this behavior.

Note that this bug is similar to bug 974900, but is not the same. In
that case, the menus are incorrectly right aligned (like in my right
monitor case), but they span monitors. In my case, the menu will shift
right a bit to avoid spilling onto the middle monitor.

Let me know if there is additional detail I can provide.

This is fine with me, and *not* the
topic of this bug report. Presumably if global menus become a
configurable option, the mode in which libreoffice menus are currently
operating will be expected to work correctly. I mention it only for
  completeness.

  2. When a window is on the middle or right monitor, the menus open in
the wrong position. For windows on the middle monitor, the menus open
on the right monitor. For menus on the right monitor, the menus open
on the correct monitor but align to the right of the menu item text.
See the attached screenshots for clarification.

LibreOffice apps are the only ones I've seen that exhibit this
  behavior.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 998931] Re: menus appear on wrong monitor

2012-05-13 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner
This is not calc-specific (it happens with writer etc. too), but
libreoffice is just a metapackage and I don't have it installed, so
apport-collect 998931 complains.

Argh, apparently apport-collect and LP have incompatible notions of
whether bugs relate to source or binary packages (bug 998936).

Anyway, I was wrong. Reading through the comments in bug 974900, I see
that bug is tracking my problem too.

/sys/module/fglrx_updates/drivers does not exist, cannot rebind fglrx_updates
driver is correct, there is no directory /sys/module/fglrx_updates.-
/sys/module/fglrx exists though, and it contains files with about the correct
modification time. So maybe Jockey looks at the wrong directory and this is not
a duplicate of #873058, as Jack Foy suggested.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 691920] Re: Firefox disappears on some tab titles(probably large ones)

2012-04-27 Thread David W. A.
Hey! I think I'm onto the root cause. If you do a simple google search
for the word trans you get the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I went digging
around in CCSM and found that the window decorator plugin and the window
rules plugin were both looking for trans in the window title and then
doing strange things to those windows. This seems like it would be
incredibly inconvenient for anyone doing any kind of translation work to
have there web browser constantly disappearing on them. I suggest this
problem be promoted and resolved as quick as possible

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 691920] Re: Firefox disappears on some tab titles(probably large ones)

2012-04-27 Thread David W. A.
Current workaround:
in CompizConfig Settings Manager: Turn Window Rules off. Edit Decorate
Windows so that everywhere you see 'trans' you replace it with something else
you're not likely to come across on the web. I think there is a cleaner way of
doing this without loosing functionality, but I'm lost

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 969535] Re: [power]: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in engine_get_icon_priv()

2012-04-25 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner
I thought I had mentioned it in this bug, but I guess I hadn't --- I
also have a triple-head Xinerama config (on an Nvidia Quadro NVS 450).

Also, since it may not be clear to those who are not experiencing this
bug, when gnome-settings-daemon crashes at startup, it means that most
apps (Thunderbird, Firefox, Chrome, etc.) are totally unthemed, and many
desktop-wide settings (such as font size adjustments, etc.) are not
applied at all. In other words, the desktop looks like crap and is hard
to use.

If this isn't fixed for the Precise release, it might be a good idea to
have a prominent item in the release notes discouraging folks with
nontrivial multi-head setups from upgrading...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 864137] Re: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_widget_size_allocate()

2012-04-16 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner
To reproduce: System Settings... Displays. I get dialog indicating
Could not get screen information RANDR extension is not present.
Choose Close button. Crash.

My setup is an Nvidia Quadro NVS 450 with 3 monitors (and thus
Xinerama), so the RANDR extension is not expected to be present. I
don't, however, expect the configuration app to crash.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 969535] Re: [power]: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in engine_get_icon_priv()

2012-04-16 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner
Setting back to Confirmed, as this still reproduces with the latest
gnome-settings-daemon (3.4.1-0ubuntu1), which I think is what Sebastien
meant.

For what it's worth, I tried creating a fresh user account to see if the
problem was related to some odd user configuration settings; however,
the problem still reproduces for a freshly created user.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 969535] Re: [power]: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in engine_get_icon_priv()

2012-04-14 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner
This is not just an occasional crash for me; gnome-settings-daemon
*always* segfaults on startup. I mention this because I suspect this is
not the case for everyone using unity-2d (otherwise the bug heat would
be higher). So if anyone is working on this but having trouble
reproducing the problem, let me know. I don't have time to debug this
right now, nor am I familiar with the code, but I'll be happy to test
patches and provide debug logs or whatever.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 921013] Re: can no longer drag and drop an unread message in evolution

2012-04-14 Thread Russ W. Knize
Yes, this has been driving me crazy. Another side effect is if I select
several messages and try to move them. If the last message I click is
not already marked as read, then when I go to drag them they all get
deselected because the UI instead decides that my drag is a click on the
unread one.

Bug description:
For years, I used to be able to read a message, later mark it as
unread and then drag and drop it into another folder with it being
kept unread. After upgrading to 12.04, I can no longer do this. This
is useful for some workflows where you mark messages as unread to
provide a visual cue in the folder view to come back to it.

  TEST CASE:
  1. open evolution
  2. mark a message as unread
  3. click and drag to a new folder

In step '3', the message is not draggable, but instead is simply
marked as read. As such, you must click and drag the message to
another folder, then go in that folder and mark the message as unread.
  This is inconvenient.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 878198] Re: Difficult to grab window borders in unity-2d

2012-04-08 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner
Here's a very simple patch I hacked together for my own use, in case
it's useful to anyone else.

I think that since Unity and GNOME3 don't use metacity as the window
manager, this patch should only affect 2D desktops. (I can't test this
theory at the moment, though, as Unity 3D appears to be broken in
Precise right now.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 878198] Re: Difficult to grab window borders in unity-2d

2012-04-07 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner
Note that this will be a regression for folks doing LTS upgrades from
Lucid to Precise. In Lucid, the default theme at least has a larger
border on the bottom of the window.

I'd argue that --- for 2D desktops in Precise --- the default theme's
window borders should be fairly beefy for 2 reasons:

1. Differentiating windows: Without shadows to help define the edges of
windows, it is can be hard to tell at a glance where one window ends and
another begins when they are overlapping. Well-defined window borders
would help this.

2. Resizing windows: As noted, it is difficult to grab very thin
window borders. Larger window borders would help this.

This is a real usability and quality issue that will affect many users
when they upgrade from Lucid to Precise.

** Also affects: unity-2d
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** No longer affects: unity-2d

Question: Shouldn't this bug be against the light-themes package, not

Rewrap lines when resizing the terminal

Status in “gnome-terminal” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

OS X's Terminal application has an amazingly useful feature, which is
that resizing the terminal window reflows the text already in it as if
it had been output at the new size. Since a lot of terminal
applications produce output that is practically unreadable if not
wrapped properly, this is a big time saver, since it saves having to
re-execute the script after resizing the window.

However, none of the modern Linux terminals seem to have this feature.
I think it would be a great addition.

I'm not even sure if this bug should be filed against gnome-terminal
or libvte. Let me know if I should move it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 290030] Re: Do not scrobble (add to last.fm library) radio songs

2012-02-15 Thread w-sky
Is there a way to bouce this topic? Actually I do really want Banshee to also
scrobble songs I listen to on internet radio!
Currently only local tracks are being scrobbled.

So I favour the solution Alex Karpenko presented very much. Is there any
way to get it?

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: banshee

Some recommended songs from the last.fm radio are good and some are
not. I do not want my last.fm library to be cluttered with songs I
don't like just because I decided to listen to last.fm's
recommendations. The iPhone last.fm application allows disabling of
radio scrobbling (adding to library). In a similar vein banshee should
offer an option to not scrobble recommended songs by last.fm. This
could also apply to internet radio stations (since you probably don't
want to add most songs on the radio to your library).

This option can be added under:
Tools Last.fm Enable Radio Scrobbling (Reporting)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 839444] Re: Gnome uses two different ssh agents depending on how program is launched

2012-02-11 Thread Jamin W. Collins
For xbindkeys users, this bug is reported against Debian here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=628654

The work around is to simply create a ~/.xbindkeys.noauto file (note the
leading period on the file name). This will prevent the Xsession
startup script from launching xbindkeys too early. Then start xbindkeys
via your normal mechanism.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 151365] Re: Autosave doesn't work for Unsaved Documents

2012-02-08 Thread Jamin W. Collins
Great logic. So, since cars and planes shouldn't crash perhaps we don't
need safety features developed for them? Seriously, this is faulty
logic. Software will from time to time crash. Sure, it shouldn't. But
if reasonable steps can be taken to prevent data loss, they should.
This doesn't really seem like an unreasonable step.

Just an update for Aiptek users: The aapo patch works for my system.

Wacom Bamboo One tablet random coordinate malfunctions

Status in The GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP):

Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
The tablet in overall seems to work correctly, with all pressure-
features working. But quite frequently, while drawing, GIMP seems to
wrongly read the coordinates of the stylus (as zeros, or negative
values?), resulting in frequent, random 'line-peaks' in the direction
of the left and upper image edges. With this bug it is hard to even
use the tablet, since these problems are very frequent (see the
  exemplary image attached).

The tablet works with no problems in MyPaint. The bug is reproducible
  in both Unity-2d and Unity-3d.

I also notice the CPU usage increasing dramatically during drawing
  with any brush.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Connect the Wacom Bamboo One tablet
  2. Open GIMP
  3. Start drawing longer strokes with any brush

  Expected result:
The brush stroke as intended by moving the stylus

  Actual result:
The brush stroke as intended with frequent, random line-strokes towards image
edges

System: Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric (development branch)
GIMP version: 2.6.11 (package version: 2.6.11-2ubuntu3)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 872701] Re: Not possible to enter correct password after screen lock

2011-10-21 Thread Brian W. DeVries
Has there been any update on this defect? I have a fresh install of Ocelot, and
have the same outputs as Michael for
 *  gnome-screensaver --debug
 *  ls -l /etc/shadow
 *  ls -l /dev/null

I have 4 layouts set up that I switch between using double-shift:
 * English (international AltGr dead keys)
 *  English (programmer Dvorak)
 *  English (US)
 *  English (Dvorak)

My default layout for the login screen is programmer Dvorak.

If I lock the screen manually using Windows + L, and I type the same
password (at least as far as keystrokes), regardless of the layout
chosen, I cannot log in. However, if I click Switch User, I am back at
the initial login screen, where my password works fine.

Therefore, clicking Switch User and entering the correct password there
seems to be a workaround.

I can provide any other logs or information required as well.

and toggle with double-shift) the password which I enter is never accepted. I
am forced to switch to a tty, login there (with the same password) and `pkill

Dates on some sites are a particular problem given that for many dates

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Start Firefox
  2) In Edit - Preferences - check the lanugage settings are en-gb and en.
  3) Start Firebug.
  4) Access www.google.co.uk
  5) Check the Net tab in firebug.
  6) Expand the first (or any line).
  7) Scroll to the Request Headers.
  8) Observe Accept-language contains en-us,en;q=0.5.
