Title:
  gnome shell logout/crash

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Recently it is happening a lot that gnome shell suddenly logs me out.

I've just checked and saw some errors in syslog, e.g.:

  Nov 26 19:39:28 hp gnome-shell[11142]: St:ERROR:../src/st/st-
  bin.c:206:st_bin_destroy: assertion failed: (priv->child == NULL)

I have the feeling it is related to mounting stuff. E.g., I am now
avoiding to use sshfs, because i have the impression that this makes
it more likely. just now (for the 19:39 line above) I tried logging in
with a Nexus 7 tablet plugged in which I guess would also result in
some mounting/filesystem action. However, as I am typing this, I am
logged in and the tablet is still connected, so, maybe it's unrelated

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1855693] Re: microphone of the headset is not detected

2019-12-10 Thread doniks
Oh. I didn't know. Thanks for explaining Daniel!

Yes, I can reproduce now with two different headsets. Both have a four
pin connector. One is from an Android phone, the other I think is Apple.

When I

* boot into Mac OS, and connect the Android headset, I can not see it as in
audio input in the settings
* boot into Mac OS, and connect the Apple headset, I can see it in the settings
* boot into Ubuntu and connect the Apple headset, I can not see it as an input

So, I think there is still some hardware detection not working properly
in Ubuntu.

I attach some photos.

I'm in 17.10. Whenever I touch the touchscreen, the keyboard appears. It is
disabled in System Preferences > Universal Access. This didn't happen in any
previous Ubuntus, including 17.04 GNOME, nor in Fedora, which is GNOME based.

  Test Case
  =
  0. Find a laptop with a touch screen that works.
  1. Settings > Universal Access > Typing > Screen Keyboard = OFF
  2. Touch the screen.

Bug description:
I have a laptop with a touch screen and a new installation of 17.10.

For the most part the touch screen is supported ok. I can move around
most windows ok, I can zoom in the pdf viewer with a two-finger-pinch
gesture. However, firefox has a differently looking toolbar and I can
neither move the window, nor does it react to tapping the
  minimise/maximise/close buttons.

I assume that I am running wayland by looking at these variables:

  echo $WAYLAND_DISPLAY $XDG_SESSION_DESKTOP $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1728412] Re: Titlebar of firefox does not respond to touch screen

2017-10-30 Thread doniks
@Joseph it happens in a new installation. I wouldn't expect this to be
in the linux kernel, but if you are convinced that the test has value,
please ping me again and I'll do the upstream kernel test

@Sebastien, while it does 'affect' firefox, I wonder whether the bug is
actually somewhere else, like in gnome-something. As I said, I have the
same in thunderbird and kate. I wouldn't be surprised if the list is
longer. I just picked some other non-gnome applications
